About the Artist
Gerhard Bronner's profession is ... Bronner. It's the only profession he has ever learned and that he has taught himself on his way from the workers' neighborhood Favoriten in Vienna, Austria, escaping from the Nazis to then Palastine, returning to Vienna "to where he has ended up today."

He has been musician, lyricist, playwright, theatre impresario, director, conductor, cabaret artist, producer, to name just a few of his activities...well, he simply has been doing pretty much everything there is to do in show business in theatres, television, film and radio. And he pretends that this is the most normal thing in the world that one person can do it all.

In the first place, however, he is a full-blooded musician. When he sits down at the piano, it sings - regardless that he never was trained to play it. When he writes text and music, he touches and irritates audiences and has been doing that for decades. He leaves traces. He is beloved or hated, hardly will he leave anyone indifferent.

How he approaches music and everything that has to do with music is unique. He speaks his own, multi-layered melodic language, which elevates those who understand it above the usual ground they stand on. Or makes them feel six feet under if that's the emotion he wants them to have.

On his way around the world and through world history, the orthodox atheist has never forgotten that it is "tough to be a Jew" and increasingly this community of fate (rather than the community of faith) has inspired him to works that show a Bronner as people only start to get to know. Whenever one thinks to have understood what Bronner is about, he is in for another surprise.

One of Gerhard Bronner's most recent CD's may have one of his most famous songs, "Der g'schupfte Ferdl" (which Israeli broadcasters during a life broadcast of one of his concerts in Jerusalem in 1996 decided to translate literally if off-target as "sus meshugah") as catch word in its title - and indeed the popular song, but in a contemporary version, can be found on it. And other "typical" Bronner songs.

Satirical, funny, right on target - whatever target he happened to choose. Nobody needs to worry whether he will hit it or not.

Bronner addicts, however, will also find that this CD, in addition to the usual Bronner bite, reveals some of his less known songs - and a bit of the less known Bronner. Those songs may do without obvious punchlines and even feature a sad note here and there, however smilingly and with his usual wit he may present it.

All in all, it is Bronner as we know him - just on this CD we get to know him a little bit better.
