O Ka Wa I Hala

About the Artist
Kumu hula and entertainer Tony Conjugacion has been enchanting audiences his entire life. Tony was only 6 years old when he began performing with Myrtle K. Hilo on her KCCN Radio show, which was broadcast live every Saturday. Tony's nightclub debut followed shortly thereafter. He was only 8 years old when he caught the eye of Melveen Leed during an audition; he became a regular part of her show at the Sheraton Waikk Hotel.

As a recording artist, Tony has numerous recordings and is admired for his tremendous falsetto range. His debut recording, "Hawaiian Passion", swept the Na Hoku Hanohano awards in 1985, and he has followed that initial recording with eight others, two with his real-life brother Brother Noland.

He has performed the New York cabaret circuit, and his acting accolades include performances in "Dreamgirls" in Hawai'i and in the original Broadway company of "Miss Saigon" where he understudies Jonathan Pryce.

His return to Honolulu following four years in New York have expanded Tony's talents to even more areas. As a former student under such illustrious kumu as Vickie I'i Rodrigues, Ma'iki Aiu Lake and Darrell Lupenui, he has taken this knowledge and shared Hawai'i's spiritual and cultural views with the rest of the world. His halau, Halau Na Wainohia, is a living historical perspective of his attained knowledge. He has also taught the art form in New York City (via Alvin Ailey Dance Center) and HCT (Hawai'i Cultural Foundation), Washington State and Japan.

Not one to ever slow down and in addition to his work with his halau, Tony continues his singing career as a recording artist for The Mountain Apple Company and produces other artists.

Band Members are... Tony Conjugacion-vocals, 'ukulele, 'ili'ili, Ipu Heke; Violet Pahu Liliko'i-vocals, bass; Lavainia Deltoro-vocals, rhythm guitar; Leila Hohu Ki'aha-piano; Charles Fukuba-steel guitar; Sachiko Puaaloha Iwashita-Ipua Heke
