High School Musical : The Songs.......2007-06-13
Did you like the High School Musical movie? If so, try the soundtrack! It's the same great songs, singers and fun. Every song (there is eleven) is the same as in the movie except now there is a chance for you to multi-task while enjoying the same singers from the film. Some include Mathew Gerrard, Ray Cham, Adam Watts, Faye Greenberg, Jamie Houston and Kevin Quinn. I really enjoy these songs because they describe what is going on in the movie. For example: when Troy is playing basketball (Get'cha Head in the Game), Ryan and Sharpay's callback song (Bop to the Top) or when Troy and Gabriella meet each other (Start of Some thing New).
I really enjoy these songs. I have memorized each and every one of them and sing along when I listen to this CD. Every song has a catchy tune, so soon, you'll be singing along too. With a High School Musical soundtrack, you can even sing along when you watch the movie. My favorite song is "When There was me and you". It is when Troy and Gabriella don't think they should go to callbacks. Just a little bit after this song they decide to go to callbacks.
I recommend this soundtrack for those who like the movie, High School Musical. The songs are a mix of upbeat, sad or just plain silly. Everyone will enjoy these just as much as they liked they movie. Those who haven't seen the movie will want to see it after listening to this soundtrack.

The songs are pretty catchy and as a Dad of two daughters, I would even admit that some of the songs are enjoyable to listen too.
A great buy for the money!

If your impressions of Ashley Tisdale are fuzzy around the edges but include visions of singing schoolgirls, blond supercuteness, and shrieking, hysterical 10-year-olds, you'll want to check them at the door before checking out Headstrong. It's not that fourth graders won't like the long-limbed High School Musical star's hooky, happy, and at times hyper solo debut. It's just that you might, too. Tisdale, a little like Lindsey Lohan and not at all like Hilary Duff, doesn't waste time ditching her groovy-juvie reputation to reimagine herself as a red-hot starlet here. "He Said She Said" is a steamy dancefloor seduction that ought to come with a PG-15 rating ("Baby I can see us moving like that/Baby I can see us touchin' like that," it goes), and "Not Like That" mines familiar misunderstood-celebrity territory in a way that's less whiny than worked-up. The thing is, it all sounds pretty good--from the head-bobbing urban beat in "Be Good to Me" to the fuzz and boingy effects on "Over It," Tisdale proves her appeal is not limited to junior proms. Which is not to say she doesn't leave a little something for fans who still dot their I's with circles: One of Headstrong's strongest numbers, "Unlove You," is tailor-made for belt-outs in pastel-pink bedrooms. --Tammy La GorceAlbum Description
Includes songs from the hottest writer-producers on the planet, including The Matrix (Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne), Scott Storch (Usher, Chris Brown), Kara DioGuardi (Gwen Stefani, Ashlee Simpson), Shelly Pieken and Guy Roche (Christina Aguilera), and Adam and Nikki Anders (Backstreet Boys, Sheryl Crow), Headstrong is a mix of edgy, rhythmic dance-pop from the new musical queen for 'tweens and teens.Customer Reviews:
It's sad that she can get a record deal .......2007-07-13
1. Intro-This sounds more like what I'd expect to hear on the commercial for the cd, not the cd itself. Who actually wants to listen to this crap? I doubt Ashley even worked on this track, but just let the sound-tech throw it together for her.
2. So Much For You- I didn't know a demented elf could get a record deal. It sounded like crappy techno sung by a five year old. It was also very repetitve.
3. He Said She Said- I don't think these lyrics are appropriate for Tisdale's main audience. And don't try and defend her by saying that she doesn't want the dopey kiddie audience. If she didn't want the dopey kiddie audience she shouldn't have been in a dopey kiddie movie.
4. Be Good to Me- "Can you be good to me?" NO! this song is childish, especially when teamed with Tisdale's childish vocals.
5. Not Like That- This song is arrogant and rude. Trust me, Ashley, NO ONE is jealous of you. After all, what is there to be jealous of? A whiny voice, a part on the disney channel (Like we want that kind of embaressment). Oh and we'd have to be known for the character Sharpay. Oh yeah, I'm sure everyone is dying to be like you. People are probably only staring at you because you're such a bad dancer.
6. Unlove You- This song could be better if someone like Kelly Clarkson sang it. I'm serious, I've heard a cat being held by the tail, and it sounded better then Ashley when she attempts those high notes (unsuccessfully might I add) Also, when she wasn't destroying my hearing the song was just plain boring.
7. Positivity- This song is positivly horrible. Just like all of Ashley's other songs.
8. Love Me for Me- "I'm not the girl you see in the magazine." Believe it or not, YOU ARE the girl in the magazine! So shut up and be happy.
9. Goin Crazy- Ashley, there's a reason why the guy you want doesn't like you. Want me to tell you? Because you're obnoxous and self-centered.
10. Over It- First off, if you're over it then why are you singing about it Ashley? Second of all, I don't blame the guy one bit for cheating on you. If I were a guy and was dating you I would be smashing my head against a brick wall.
11. Don't Touch (The Zoom Song)- If I wasn't reading the lyrics while listening to this, I wouldn't be able to hear what she was saying. Which, looking back, isn't a bad thing: "U wanna get somewhere, don't touch me there." And, "You want to score but it's not a game." Are dirty lyrics I would expect from Christina Aguliera's "Dirty" days. Not a wannabe from Disney Channel.
12. We'll be Together- Just what we need, another pointless love song. What, is there a factory that cranks out this crap?
13. Headstrong- The only good part is the strings in the beginning. The tune isn't that bad but it's not that good either. I will say that this is one of the few songs on the album that might've been written by a musician. However I doubt the lyricist had a 2nd grade degree in English: "Meltdown it's not a crush in a hot hot room we're in a rush."...WTF?!
14. Suddenly- If you didn't know what I was talking about when I called her self-centered, this song explains it all. If people know your name it may be because they laugh and make fun of you for thinking you are a superstar. News flash Ashley: You're not on center stage. You're in High School Musical. Probably becuase they couldn't find anyone dumb enough to say "Zip zap zop, pop like a mop." With a straight face.
I do hope we've made our point about Ashley. She can't sing, is not impressive in the least and looks to me like someone who's try and fail miserably to get on "America's Got Talent." She's not good enough to try out for AI. Someone should tell her.

The big question about this soundtrack is: how's she doing? No, not Beyoncé, silly--how's Jennifer Hudson doing? And more specifically, how's she doing by "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going"? To this reviewer's ears, she doesn't top the original Effie, Jennifer Holliday--or even Lillias White, from the 2001 Dreamgirls in Concert. On the other hand, Hudson isn't afraid to pullout all the stops, whipping herself up into a total diva frenzy as the song getscaught up in an unstoppable crescendo. As for Beyoncé, she adapts superbly to the 1960s- and 1970s-tinged material, though "Listen"--a ballad that also appears on her own B'day album--lacks the spirit that infuses the classic tunes on this album. For make no mistake: this is hard-hitting, high-octane music, infused with an urgency and passion that makes most contemporary R&B albums sound timid. When Hudson and Beyoncé duke it out on "It's All Over," or when the "One Night Only" ballad gets reinvented as the dance-floor burner "One Night Only (Disco)," the sheer energy flowing from the speakers is transporting.Note that the two-CD Deluxe Edition features a larger booklet and additional tracks, including dance remixes of "One Night Only" and "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," as well as composer Henry Krieger's demo of "Patience." --Elisabeth Vincentelli

If you want to live the Dream, this CD will always be there..........2007-06-16
I love this CD...it takes me right through all the emotions and action of the movie. Nothing is left out, all of my favorites are included even the less commercial cuts like Eddie Murphy's "Jimmy Got Soul" which gives the CD a well rounded feel.
Great Movie, Even Better MUSIC..........2007-06-16
of course the showstopper "and i am tellin u (im not going)" is my favourite song. im only 23 and im familiar with the original version performed by jennifer holiday. i love the original but to me J-Hud Killed it!!!! i perfered her version just because it was heartfelt and she performed it OUTSTANDINGLY in the movie. i cried in the theaters when she performed it... STANDING OVATION!!!!
my other favourite track is "i meant you no harm/jimmy's rap". i love the beginning of the song. eddie murphy SANG that song. then it threw me off when he started rappin. that rap was too funny!
all the other songs were great but here are my joints:
"move"
"one night only" (original)
"one night only" (Disco) (my favourite of the 2)
"cadillac car"
"I want you baby"
"dreamgirls"
this does not have all the songs on the movie. you have to purchase the deluxe edition of get "heavy" 'effie sing my song" and more...
this is probably my favourite SDTK i own and i definantly reccomend this SDTK to anyone... and the movie is as good and the songs!!!
I love it....I dooooo!.......2007-06-13

OVERATED!!!!.......2007-07-05
O.K., But not exciting........2007-05-24
High School Musical.......2007-05-16
My top 3 are: Bop to the Top, I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You, & Stick to the Status Quo.
Both versions of What I've Been Looking For are good yet Ryan & Sharpay's is better. I think that is because the song is faster.
The B5 Get'cha Head in the Game is not very good and the orignal is MUCH better.
While When There Was Me and You is very pretty and a good song it's kinda depressing and doesn't match the up-beat plot and music the rest of the movie has.
I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You is a very underated song. I for one liked it very much and its my 2nd favorite song in the movie.
Bop to the Top is my numero uno song of the CD. I like it alot and try to memorize the words.
Start of Something New is a nice song and fits in well but somehow doesn't excite me very much in the way my favorites do.
Breaking Free is a very pretty song. While I may not understand 100% why it is better than Bop to the Top I like it.
We're All in This Together is not very good at all. While it fits in where it is, it is just not very good.
Stick To the Status Quo is a very good song and is my #3 favorite on the CD. Sharpay and Ryan's part sticks in my head and I love it when Sharpays screams " Everybody quiet" yet the students continue to sing!
That is my opinion and I have included a few words on each song. Bottom line? BUY IT!!!!!

An Awesome Disney Effort.......2007-04-20
The Start OF Something New: This song is very pretty and it sort of symolizes the star of the movie saying that they meeting each other is the start of something new which it is.
Get Cha Head In The Game: This song is very up beat and energetic. It is about foccasing on what he should be doing [as his teamates think anyway].
What I've Been Looking For: This is very catchy and fun to dance to. In fact it has simple lyrics and dance moves that will keep you dancing and singing to it for days on end
What I've been looking for reprise: This is alot slower that the first version. But all the same it is very pretty.
Stick To The Status Quo: This one is good to dance to and I like one part in it [Sharpay: this is not what I want this is not what I planned and I just gotta say I do not understand somthing is really... Ryan: somethings not right. Sharpay: really wrong... Both: and we gotta get things back where they belong..] and [Gabriella: why is everybody staring at you. Taylor: not me you. Gabriella: because of the callbacks I can't have people staring at me I really can't] but overall it really annoys me nto the best.
When There Was Me and You: this one is very pretty and emotional in fact I can't describe it it is so good
Bop To The Top: this song is fun and easy to dance to you can also learn the movie dance on the DVD.
Breaking Free: This song shows the chemistry between Gabby and Troy very well it is also very catchy and fun
We're all in this together: This is fun and energetic it will stay in your head for days on end and you won't be able to get it out.
I Can't take my eyes off you: This is cool and kinda weird cuz Ryan and Sharpay sing it too.
this is a great CD and I RECOMEND IT [excuse the caps]

Vanessa Hudgens is not "indescribable," as the MC who opens V proclaims in a hopped-up, hyped-out voice. On the contrary, the smoky-eyed High School Musical star commands a multitude of adjectives--she's adorable, talented, ambitious, and as this debut makes clearer than a set of invisible braces, young. With one foot in the grown-up, club-going world and the other in a powder-pink bedroom with a Barbie under the bed, Hudgens kicks out a crop of hooky and highly accessible tracks here. First single "Come Back to Me" dabbles in a sophisticated breed of disco, "Let's Dance" lets rip a whispery torrent of R-rated come-ons, and "Let Go," bolstered by its girls-night-out lyric, loses its inhibitions beneath an R&B-lite beat. Elsewhere, on tracks no less compelling, Hudgens explores her inner Hilary Duff: "Drive" pops the hood on her pop-anthem side ("As long as I'm alive, I'm gonna drive"), and "Afraid" wrestles with a sense of vulnerability all wrapped up in teen hormones ("Why am I so afraid/I can't see what's come over me"). Split personality or no, Hudgens makes a strong case through her Anna Nalick-reminiscent vocals alone that she's someone worth watching--a lot of emotion pours through her still-developing pipes and, as anybody who saw High School Musical knows, the girl can twirl. -Tammy La GorceAlbum Description
Vanessa Anne Hudgens, the star who portrays Gabriella Montez on the runaway hit "High School Musical," has signed an exclusive recording deal with Hollywood Records. Her debut CD "V" is being released September 26. Said Buena Vista Music Group Chairman Bob Cavallo, "We are delighted to have Vanessa at Hollywood. Not only is she talented, she is tireless in her work ethic and has a vision for her career. People will be very impressed when they hear her voice and see her perform." Certainly, Vanessa is no stranger to performing. She made her feature film debut in Catherine Hardwick's "Thirteen" starring Holly Hunter and Evan Rachel Wood. Most recently she co-starred in the action-adventure film "Thunderbirds" and is a recurring guest star on the Disney Channel's "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody." Vanessa began her acting career in musical theater when she was 8 years old. She has played leading and supporting roles in "Evita," "Carousel," "The Wizard of Oz," "The King and I," "The Music Man," "Cinderella," and "Damn Yankees," among others.Customer Reviews:

Another side of Vanessa Hudgens........2007-05-25
Vanessa has managed as the same time to create a romantic (When she sings "say ok" for example.) and modern atmosphere( Refer to "let's dance".) playing with her voice, some times deep and other times soft.
I'd say the girl knows she's got it all and she's right not to be ashamed to show it. She's really talented and with this "opus" she shows us that she's a star.

If you already own the High School Musical soundtrack, this live version may be a bit redundant; on the other hand, many of us just can't get enough of these songs, and it's fun to hear the stars of the movie perform them with live energy against a background of screaming fans--who occasionally sing along at the top of their lungs, as on "Breaking Free." The biggest change is that Zac Efron (Troy) didn't participate and was replaced by Drew Seeley. But Seeley acquits himself well of the task, particularly on his two big duets with Vanessa Hudgens, "What I've Been Looking For" and "Breaking Free." The former, as fans of the movie know, gets repeated in a super-poppy version sung by Lucas Grabeel (Ryan) and Ashley Tisdale (Sharpay), the kind of energetic performers who so often steal the spotlight from the nominal stars. In addition, Hudgens, Seeley, Tisdale, and Corbin Bleu (Chad) boost their solo careers by getting to perform bonus songs; they are from their respective albums but completely fit in the HSM sound. --Elisabeth VincentelliCustomer Reviews:
Lets Put on a Show.......2007-06-28
Lets say it this way, ITS great entertainment!if you have not gone, go to the show. I wanted to go with my nieces and could not. I did viuw the concert DVD and I was Hooked. Note you do not need to see the movie to enjoy this show
These young preformers (all from the cast of HSM) put on a show that capture the spirit of the movie..thanks to their talent and the magic of Disney. It is great family entertainment, which many have gone away from.
The soundtrack recording is a live version of the show and allows the CD audience a chance to relive the moments and groove with it again. Long after the stage show is a memory. This could play on Broadway for the closing Disney Beauty and Beast
and on disk two is a 5 cut DVD on the concert to enjoy, Is it worth it. Well its NO Mickey and Judy, but it works as great fun-so listen and watch the magic with your kids, relations and others who are tween aged

If You Didn't See the Concert..........2007-05-05
I received it in the mail on May 1st (the day it came out) and listened to it -- all I can say is WOW. The energy in the audience really made the performers shine! Listening to the songs performed live was awesome and I could tell that much of their energy was fueled by the audience! I really liked that they included Push It To The Limit (Corbin Bleu), Say Ok (Vanessa Hudgens), Dance With Me (Drew Seeley), and We'll Be Together (Ashley Tisdale) on the CD. The songs from HSM are in a different order than they were in the movie, but that's what makes this concert so great.
Then there's the 2nd disc which is the highlights DVD of the actual DVD that will be coming out in June. I watched that as well and it was great! It left me wanting to see more. I have already pre-ordered the DVD. I really loved seeing the stars perform live; there's such a difference between the movie and the concert. The only thing I would have liked to see on the highlights DVD would be at least one or two of the songs that Corbin, Ashley, Drew, and Vanessa sang (preferrably Dance With Me). But hey, I'm sure it will be on the DVD.
I think my favorite feature on the 2nd disc were the cast interviews. You got to get a glimpse of what they did backstage before each show and insight on what each performer felt about the tour.
If you're a fan of High School Musical and didn't see the concert ... or if you did see the concert and want to see it again (or in this case, listen to it again and watch a little bit of it), then I highly recommend purchasing this! You will not be disappointed.

The names on this tribute testify to the extraordinarily wide appeal of the Italian film composer Ennio Morricone: not many people could get Bruce Springsteen, Celine Dion, Quincy Jones, Renée Fleming, and Metallica on one disc. And while the artists come from very diverse genres, the album holds together well. Things start off on a syrupy note with Dion's "I Knew I Loved You," a ballad from 1984's Once Upon a Time in America (to which Alan and Marilyn Bergman added lyrics in 2006). But fortunately the CD quickly recovers and goes on to survey most of Morricone's styles, from the dissonance of his spaghetti Western scores to his mod period to his lush orchestral vistas. Metallica goes all out with guitars blazing on "Ecstasy of Gold," a track they've used as a concert intro for years, while Brazil's Daniela Mercury and Eumir Deodato breeze through "Conmigo," and the French-British combo Vanessa and the O's resuscitate the pure '60s pop of "Je Changerai d'Avis," once performed by Françoise Hardy. As for ballads, listen for soprano Renée Fleming, who surpasses her previous pop-crossover attempts on the fragile "Sail Away." Morricone himself couldn't stay away: he wrote interstitial music to create seamless transitions between the tracks, and conducts three instrumental cues. --Elisabeth VincentelliAlbum Description

A WONDERFUL TRIBUTE TO ONE OF THE GREATEST FILM COMPOSERS OF OUR TIME.......2007-05-27
I was thrilled to see Ennio finally receive an Academy Award this year! He deserved to receive many Academy Awards over the past 40 years for all his magnificent works. Next to Elmer Bernstein, I consider him my favorite film composer. Many of the selections on this album I had never heard before. Metallica playing "The Ecstacy of Gold" is absolutely reiveting! Andrea Bocelli is a perfect fit to sing Ennio's songs. Incidentally, Mr. Bocelli also sings two of Ennio's otherwise unknown songs on one of his older albums. Unknown to us in the USA only because Ennio has chosen to focus his life's work on mostly Italian film scores.
I only wish his scores were more accessable to us living outside of Italy. I have much of his film music, but it's still very hard to find. I truly feel that the genius of Ennio's music will not fully be appreciated until after he is gone from us.
So to anyone who really wants to know what a modern film score genius sounds like...BUY THIS ALBUM!!!

Dissapointed in Ennio Marricone's Latest.......2007-03-31
This will disappoint die-hard Morricone fans.......2007-03-29
This tribute album is cover versions of only (arguably) his most popular songs. The covers on this album pale, in general, to the originals. Some are just plain emotionless. Celine Dion and Metallica in particular manage to suck the life out of Morricone's originals. As cover versions, they're vulgar. But that's part and parcel of the Morricone catalog; in over 400 soundtracks, you will find as much beauty as you will vulgarity. In that respect, this CD might still represent his body of work even if it doesn't translate it very well. There is some good, some bad, and some just ugly.
We may all love Morricone, but we do not all love to hear his work treated the way some of these artists chose to treat it. If you're like me, you'll prefer to spend your money on Morricone's original works (though a few do appear on this CD). I recommend "Crime and Dissonance", a compilation of Morricone music curated by Mike Patton, released on Patton's Ipecac label.

With her much-anticipated debut, ex-ballerina Vanessa Carlton more than makes good on the promise of her first single, "A Thousand Miles." Augmenting her classical training with a broad range of pop she soaked up playing New York City clubs and listening to classic rock in her father's car, Be Not Nobody finds the phenom decorating her fierce piano playing with orchestration, guitars, and percussion galore. "Prince" is sizzling and funky, while "Ordinary Day" displays a majestic grace and "Unsung" is a stomping blues-bar breakdown. Comparisons to Fiona Apple and Little Earthquakes-era Tori Amos (especially on the haunting "Sway" and "Wanted") are inevitable and justified. Yet Carlton sounds fresh, even on a menacing interpretation of the Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black." With the exception of the anemic ballad "Pretty Baby," this impressive debut makes a strong case that a new star has emerged. --Annie ZaleskiCustomer Reviews:
Hyped and laudable debut full of liveliness.......2007-04-28
Her words are just as fleshed-out as her sounds. Of the twelve tracks, only three or four have a more depressing nature, but as a pop album that fact works out fine. "Ordinary Day", the fantastic, swelling opening song, tells Vanessa's tales of an unsuspecting lover who gave her the advice to "take my hand / Live while you can". Unsurprisingly, unrequited love and lovesickness play quite a role in her songs, adding a sprinkle of realism among the concoction of sensationalism and glittering piano melodies contained herein. "Rinse", for example, is a morose but fantastic account of a girl slowly driving herself insane over her unreturned feelings for a boy. It starts off almost rushed, but explodes into a tempest of guitar licks and desperate lines that lash out with nothing but the naked truth.
The low point here is probably "Prince", during which the album seems to be winding down into a rather lazy final 1/3, but it picks itself back up immediately with a cover of the Rolling Stones' classic "Paint It Black" and (the real gem here) "Wanted", which has a great deal of Vanessa's distilled voice unaided by instrumentation. She shows off a natural and viciously honest side of herself that is only exhibited once on the whole CD.
But through the whole thing, there is always the reassurance that Vanessa knows what she is doing and knows the right way to do it. After this album and her follow-up Harmonium exploded onto the music scene, there's no question about this artist's exuberance and, above all, just plain talent.
young and very talented.......2007-03-27
After purchasing it and listening through it a time or two, I focused on each song as it played. The second song that has trumped 1000 Miles thus far is 'Paradise'. I've always appreciated an artist who uses a full orchestra and Vanessa is no exception. The piano and strings played in the first few seconds immediately grabbed my attention. Then came this innocent voice that quickly grew into a young woman in total control of a very compelling song. As a person quite a few years older than Vanessa, I feel hauntingly seduced by the maturity and control of this young womans voice.

Okay, now on to the review.
This CD is pretty good I must admit. While at times Vanessa can come off as whiny, all of these songs (minus maybe two of them) sound so different it keeps you interested. Vanessa isn't the strongest lyricist but her words do the trick.
Highlights: Ordinary Day, Prince, Paint It Black and definitely Twilight which is probably the best track here. A Thousand Miles is good too but it isn't my favorite anymore.
Lastly, I would like to say although this release is close to stellar, her follow up (which flopped) Harmonium, is the better CD. I do recommend it over this one because of songs like Who's To Say, Afterglow, Private Radio, Half A Week Before Winter and She Floats. Certainly great songs.
But all in all, I believe that if you like pop music that isn't too poppy then you should get this CD. ^_^
Bad Recording Quality.......2006-12-14
If you are listening to this CD on a boombox or some HTIB system, you may not ba able to hear what I hear (I have Classe front end components pushing B&W 802D speakers.) When I purchase a CD I expect recording quality better than what I can do in my basement!
Great listen.......2006-10-26
Soon after purchasing Harmonium,I purchased Be Not Nobody.I had perceived the obvious growth in her lyrics and the topics sung compared to Harmonium, but her powerful lyrics and piano-playing had obviously been carried over from her excellent debut album.
My favorites include "Ordinary Day," "Rinse," "Paradise," and "Twilight." I do admit that some songs are harder to listen to than others, but you will always stuble on a song or songs like that on any album...I would think.
The album features some of the most mysterious lyrics that seem indecipherable at first, yet when you really listen, you perceive a song's simplicity and its message.
I'd recommend this album to anyone who has casually heard her songs on the radio and liked it.If you like that, you'll love what the entire album has to offer.
