4 out of 5 stars Great CPD.......2007-01-10

Great Cherry Poppin' Daddies. An eclectic mix -- as usual. With this kind of variety, you may not like every tune -- but, you're bound to find something new you like, if your a CPD fan.

5 out of 5 stars if you really love music..............2005-12-17

the daddies are for you. i am lucky enough to own all of their work and with the exception of ferociously stoned (their first release), they are all awesome. this is my #1 favorite cd out of all their work. an adventure in musical styles, you will be surprised with every song.

5 out of 5 stars Buy this CD... seriously........2002-01-23

Everything I was ever looking for in music, I found in Rapid City Muscle Car. Skyline Drive is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. It is probably the most diverse album you can get and all of the musicians are as talanted as they come. I picked up the CD in an obscure shop on a vacation in Virginia, and it really is all I can remember about the trip. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying that Virginia was borning, that's just how powerful this album was. Okay maybe a little boring...
Do yourself a favor and pick this one up, or at least listen to the samples. All of them.

5 out of 5 stars CPD is the best band ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......1999-10-24

The Cherry Poppin Daddies are a wonderful band. I really like this CD. Infact out of the four it is my favorite. It has all different kinds of music. The Lyrics are touching. As I said it before they are a wonderful band!

5 out of 5 stars this cd w/o a doubt receives a 5 from me~.......1999-10-17

ok, well, i heard zoot suit riot on the radio, went out and bought the cd. I LOVED IT. so a couple of months later I bought this one, "rapid city muscle car." Quite frankly, i didn't like it. I put it away for a while. When I started to like rock and ska more, I got it back out and started listening to it. I listened to some of the tracks, grew to love some of them, avoided the rest. Then one day, I was in a, well, mood, where I just put it on, and well, more of the songs grew on me. I listened to the entire CD every day, just lettin' it run, u know. I started to learn the words and started to feel the music, and the great, let me stress that, GREAT, lyrics, got me to thinkin' this ain't no ordinary band. I would start singing in school, it was to the point where I would wanna go home just to listen to it!(if i wasn't doing anything more useful than sittin' at a friends house) I mean I have not bought a full length CD in like a year, besides the CPD! why u ask? because I didn't need to! I mean i bought singles and everything but this CD, and the Zoot Suit Riot CD have kept me goin' for like a year and a half now. So let me tell you ppl who came to read my review, if you think this cd is swing, well it is a little, but if you're like me and all you lived for was swing, consider this cd the revolution in your life. it sure changed me, and i guarantee you it'll change you- It got your swing, some rock, punk, ska, even a touch o' country. no matter, you'll love it, so buy it.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect-ish.......2007-01-06

You know, I liked Eska a lot - it was in those early Chemikal Underground days and I was quite lucky to see Stu's last gig with Eska supporting Rocket From the Crypt in Glasgow - at least the singer said it was his last gig, so I think that's true! As a side track, RFTC were amazing. Anyway, I kinda ignored Mogwai for a long time after, despite my best mate telling me they were f#cken A.

To the point - Rapid Ten is top shelf stuff.

I'm in butt f#ck Australia just now, but can't wait to grab a hold of the Zidane DVD. Mogwai + football = yeah.

Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars is it weird that this is one of my favorite mogwai releases?.......2006-03-25

I know, I know. I should like Young Team. I should like Come On Die Young. But I can't help but feel that some of Mogwai's best material is on this disc. The beautiful "Summer", the powerful "Ithica", and of course the classic "Helicon 1" are all brilliant pieces of mogwai's catalogue. Don't be hatin' this disc - I purchased this mid-way through my mogwai listening career and was not dissapointed at all.

3 out of 5 stars Poised for greatness.......2006-03-14

2 1/2 stars

Even before an official debut, these young lads from scotland were already proving their relationship with music far exceeded their peers..Yes this is probally the least amazing of Mogwai's catalouge, but within the subtlties you see the ingrediants that would help make Mogwai one of the standout bands of the new millenium..This album has more breezy, relaxed tracks then what we are used to dealing with when plunging into the abyss with these guys, however the essence of the band and it's die hard philosphy of letting a composition breath as long as it needs to is in full effect. Amazing that a band so young could be so sincere in it's goal of pure audio immersion.

4 out of 5 stars Some of my favorite songs.......2005-06-18

The whole CD is definitely nice, but I find myself skipping over 'Angles v. Aliens' 'I Am Batman' and 'Tuner' most of the time. Fine songs, but not the best. I could (and have) listen(ed) to 'Helicon 2' for hours. 'Summer' is excellent, much better than the remix on Young Team. 'Helicon 1' is very good, if a little forced, always putting me in the mind of the home of the muses. 'Ithaca' gets pretty heavy in a good way, a little different from any other Mogwai I've heard. 'A Place for Parks' is pleasant and just disoncerting enough to warrant repeat listenings. 'End' is damn cool.

I wouldn't recommend this as an intro to Mogwai- Young Team or Government Commissions would be better, I think. But the Helicons, Ithaca, End, and Summer are high up on my short list of favorite songs. Anyone who likes other Mogwai would almost surely not regret having bought this.

3 out of 5 stars They're nice but.............2005-01-28

With the songs all short they don't really have room to roam around - there needs to be some sort of space within them. As it stands it sounds a bit too cramped and compressed. There would be much better stuff to come from Mogwai. This shows they had potential.....they just needed a little bit of space

5 out of 5 stars Milestone of Brazilian Jazz.......2007-06-22

This double set is very important in the Brazilian Jazz world, because it offers one of the best representatives of its genre in Cascades, also, this album is very hard to find now and one of the most sought-after ones by Azymuth loyal fans.
Azymuth has written an important page in the music industry; it's amazing and almost impossible to find groups or musicians who can release not only 2 albums, but 2 super albums in the same year, and that's exactly what Azymuth did back in 1982 when they released "Telecommunication" and "Cascades"; these two, are albums with an impressive level of musiquality hard to match anywhere; 5 of Cascades 7 cuts were extensively aired and reached high rankings on radio transmissions everywhere in the world in the 80's - 90's; these hits are:
1) Club Morocco / 2) Cascade of the Seven Quedas / 3) Through the Window / 5)Festa Nativa and 7)Indian Pepper.

Another amazing feat reached here by Azymtuh is that after 25 years; these super hits sound soooo modern and up-to-date because they didn't use musical formulas that easily fade away. Not to be missed by Jazz and Brazilian Jazz fans out there.

5 out of 5 stars Smooth Jazz and Funk....With a Brazilian Twist........2003-11-04

This is a wonderful CD. Many of the songs have a smooth jazz feel to them, however other songs, such as my favorite on the album, "Indian Pepper ("Pimenta Malagueta") remind you of the funk era from the late 70's - early 80's. Another good album to check out by Azymuth is "Telecommunication".

4 out of 5 stars Cascades is a great CD!! Rapid Transit on the other hand..........2002-11-23

I've been looking for this album since I was in college back in the early 90's. I was thrilled when I found out Fantasy Records re-released it along with another obscure Azymuth album. I love the first 7 tracks which represents the Cascades CD, especially "Indian Pepper" and "Cascades of the Seven Waterfalls". I found it to be one of their best recordings. Rapid Transit though is not one of their better efforts. I wasn't too impressed with many of the tracks. I found it very abstract, like a painting. Maybe it will grow on me. Overall, get the CD for the first 7 tracks. You wont be disappointed!!

Album Description

Electronic music is selling more than ever with new releases by the Chemical Brothers, Boards Of Canada, Clinic & a recent release by Crystal Method- Asphalt Jungle's debut release "Electro Ave." could not have come at a better time. It combines the writing & producing talents of Brian Tarquin (3 solo albums on Instinct Records) & Chris Ingram and incorporates funky big beats with metallic percussive guitar riffs. "Electro Ave." features MTV's "Road Rules" hit track "Witchcraft" and a re-mixed bonus version by DJ Soul Slinger & DJ Wally. It also includes "Tinsel Town" which has been heard by millions of "Making The Band" viewers. With their own unique style, Asphalt Jungle has blended live raw guitar tones with fast paced bottomless grooves.

Long time partners, Tarquin & Ingram have written the music for MTV's 1998/1999 television show "Road Rules," as well as producing music for many other TV shows including the "X-Files" and ABC's "Making The Band". The duo also has a long history in recording and producing albums together. Inspired by the early 90's London Acid Jazz & British Electronica Revolution, Tarquin & Ingram scored a top 20 hit (Billboard) with, "This Is Acid Jazz; The Best Of Acid Jazz Vol. 2" on Instinct Records. Asphalt Jungle's first ! release is a culmination of experience & desire; both Chris & Brian relish the opportunity to have `their' music finally heard- so listen up!

5 out of 5 stars Asphalt Jungle Kicks Booty.......2002-07-24

Loved the album from start to finish. The mixer of rock guitar with electronica dance grooves kicks ass!! I especially liked the dreamly electronica tune, Distant Heart, the quirky dance track, Wha Da Ding and high energy sultry track, Foxxy. A great CD to ROCK OUT with!! A CD that has won a place in my car cd changer. Hope you guys keep making music!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Over the top!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2002-07-12

This album should have been the soudtrack to that armwrestling movie called "over the top" because it gets you PUMPED UP! Arm- breaking beats mixed with tendon-rippin' metal guitar riffs. It's hot I tell you. If you ever liked anything Crystal Method did or the Chemical Bros. buy this and prepare to be impressed, because it's more intense than anything those guys ever did.

Album Description

Driving World-Beat Ethno-Fusion! - Pumping rhythms of the wild... droning, eternal voices of an ancient future… exotic nature sounds and rapid-fire percussion create an inter-dimensional journey into mindless spirit. Earthy didgeridoo with Australian aboriginal voices blend with UK techno-shamanic, traditional Native American Peyote chant, NYC trip-hop and Afro-Caribbean tribal rhythms... all fused into a thrilling dance compilation.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Techno music. .......2005-11-11

This CD features a compilation of Techno-music supported by a little didjeridoo here and there. As such it is really not bad. However, both the title and the album description state or imply that the music has something to do with meditation and/or spiritual practices. This is not true: it's Techno-music in its purest tradition. The synthesizer-generated music is very flat with little or no harmonics.

5 out of 5 stars Wow!.......2003-11-27

I was looking for a CD full of high-energy music. Wow! This one is awesome.

I'm constantly looking for great high-energy music for use when I'm working. This CD is almost too perfect in that regard as it is the type of music I can put on, go to work, and POOF -- 4 hours vanish.

My feet are dancing, my fingers are drumming, and my mind is in the zone. Great beat, nice didgeridoo, and awesome percussion throughout.

This sound reminds me of the high energy music that would emerge if you could somehow mix the music from the Afro Celts, Nomad (say ASIN: B000001ZBG), and Deep Forest. Delicious :)

I'm no trance expert so can't comment on its "trance purity", etc.

I'm no dancer so I can't comment on the type of dance genre this music best fits. Apparently I'm thinking of becoming a dancer, though, as I seem to have this urge to go dancing through the house like a wild man whenever this CD is playing :)

Summary: I agree with the summary on the back of the CD, "Pumping rhythms of the wild ... droning, eternal voices of an ancient-future ... exotic nature sounds and rapid-fire percussion create an inter-dimensional journey into mindless spirit". I wish I would have said that :) ***Highly Recommended***

3 out of 5 stars Okay but not great.......2007-05-05

I am a big fan of Brian Eno's early abstract work. I like the way he took simple ideas and explored them until they became transformed into something completely different. For example, on "Music for Airports" he recorded women singing single notes, made tape loops of varying lengths from those recordings and let them circulate until many different combinations of notes and silences emerged. The result was beautiful and other-worldly. So, when Eno recorded an album of "soundtrack material" (for non-existant films) it seemed that he had stumbled onto a great outlet for his music. Instead, this is a collection of pieces that sound like floor sweepings from the "Another Green World" sessions. The pieces are short and often sound like passing thoughts that never developed into anything of substance. There are some nice moments on this recording, including some great bass parts and guest appearences by people like Robert Fripp but overall this is one of the weakest of Eno's early recordings.

    5 out of 5 stars Fabulous Eno...........2005-08-01

This isnt really an ambient recording...it was done before "ambient music"...very ethereal pieces...love it. Its a great recording if it doesnt go over your head.

    1 out of 5 stars Remastering errors.......2005-07-05

Does anyone have the final word on the degree to which Astralwerks (sic) have screwed up these Eno 'remasters'?

'Another Green World' has the first bars of 'Everything merges with the night' missing, 'Climate Study' is missing from 'More Music For Films, and someone below states that the intro to
'Quartz' on this album is also truncated. Are Astralwerks just a bunch of amateurs or something? Eno must be well pleased with this mess..

2 out of 5 stars Difficult, undeveloped ideas........2005-06-14

A collection of 18 pieces, some intended for specific films, some evidentally not, Eno's "Music For Films" is one of his most difficult ambient records. The music contained within this disc is moody and cinematic, but its also fractured. With most the tracks less than two minutes long, ideas often do not get the chance to develop to their fullness ("Aragon", "Alternative 3").

Having stated that, there is some fanastic material on here ("From the Same Hill" with some great guitar/synth interplay, the Frippertronics piece "Slow Water", edgy and bizarre "Quartz") that makes it worth seeking out for fans of Eno. For the more curious, try "Discreet Music", "Music for Airports", or "No Pussyfooting" (Fripp & Eno) for a better introduction.

2 out of 5 stars Another Mastering Screw-up.......2005-06-02

The music here rates 5 stars, but be warned: the opening sustained note at the beginning of track 10 (Quartz) starts late, cutting off about half of the note. If that's not important to you, order away.

      Customer Reviews:

      5 out of 5 stars Joe Stump.......2005-10-11

His name sounds like one of Bilbo Baggins' friends. This is the only Stump album I've heard so far, but it is insane. I hope all the others are just as good. If you like this you will also like Michael Romeo's "Dark Chapter".

3 out of 5 stars Lacks decent production.......2003-10-26

I liked "End of a Era" best on this one. In general I like Stump's melodic stuff, he is far beyond a lot of the classically influenced shredders. But the production on this album was pretty bad, it was hard to make out the ins and outs of his playing. It got a little frustrating to listen to. I'd sure love to see this guy live. Anyway if you are looking for an intro to Joe Stump I would recommend Guitar Dominance, that was awesome. Just put on "Ultraviolence" and leave it there ;-)
I have Night of the Living Shread (NOTLS) as well which I also liked better than this one. YMMV.

      5 out of 5 stars Stump's Best Effort Yet.......1999-09-05

This one is his best yet, in my opinion. The production is much improved, the compositions are very well thought out, and Joe's playing is as clean as it gets.In the past, Stump may have had a tendency to be somewhat "long-winded," but this album is much more focused, and it seems that there are no more notes than necessary. No, I'm not a rock critic, just a guitar player with an ear for the neoclassical heavy metal revolution. Get this one. You'll be glad you did. Then join me in the woodshed.Highlights: Speedball Sonatina, Unrelenting, The Dominance Factor.
