Album Description
As we explore the depths of our "self", our "souls", through massage, relaxation, and other healing modalities, we gain experience and knowingness. The music from Detaching The World Vol. 1 is a transient, which allows for this knowingness to occur in a peaceful, tranquil, and comforting environment. This CD has been created to provide over 60 minutes in running time without the use of vocals or percussion. Emil Gagliardi has introduced a new style of guitar called "The Nuit's Effect" named after its rich soothing textures and deep earthy tones. From the opening cut of "Tranquil Sunrise", Gagliardi's swirling guitar immediately sets the perfect mood for massage and relaxation. The density of "The Valley Beyond" swallows you up in a tapestry of color similar to a warm blanket while the hauntingly beautiful "Fallen Angel" resembles a fresh new day after a storm.
Gagliardi's vision of creating the perfect massage and relaxation music sets Detaching The World (Vol. 1) apart from all others. Its purpose is to serve gentleness and ease like the inhalation and exhalation of the breath.

DG has put together a fascinating compilation of Segovia's art that reminds us what a protean figure he was. Segovia single-handedly put the instrument on the map by making classical guitar concerts popular events, broadening the instrument's repertory through commissions and transcriptions, and convincing even doubters that it could be a vehicle for serious music. He's heard here in brief pieces recorded between 1952 and 1969. Even in those made when he was well into his 70s, his fingers remain nimble and interpretations lively. Listening straight through, one hears many all-time Segovia favorites as Turina's Sevillana and Albeniz's Asturias and Zambra Granadina and renews appreciation for path-breaking composers like Castelnuovo-Tedesco. He wrote extensively for Segovia and his Capriccio diabolico and Tonadilla are pieces of real substance. Disc two is largely made up transcriptions and it's amazing how well so many of them work on the guitar, at least under Segovia's magic fingers. Thus the transformations of Bach's violin music and even a Chopin Prelude sound idiomatic, and the gorgeous melodies of the Canzonetta from Mendelssohn's Op. 12 String Quartet are irresistible here. An entrancing set. --Dan DavisCustomer Reviews:
A Man and His Art - Magnificently Captured.......2007-04-06
There are a total of 31 pieces played on these CDs and while a playlist would be an unnecessary use of space here, a list of the composers represented is not. More than the specific pieces Segovia gives us here, the range of composers chosen by the compilers and editors - with each piece rearranged by Segovia himself, tells us a great deal about his interests, talents and musical range. These composers include:
Isaac Albeniz, Johann Sebastian Bach, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Frederic Chopin, Claude Debussy, John Dowland, Manuel de Falla, Cesar Franke, Girolamo Frescobaldi, Edvard Grieg, George Frederic Handel, Felix Mendelsohn, Frederico Moreno Torroba, Modest Mussorgsky, Nicolo Paganini, Felipe Pedrell, Manuel Ponce, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Joaquin Rodrigo, Albert Roussel, Domenico Scarlatti, Alexander Scriabin, Segovia's own composition of Estudio sin luz, Fernando Sor, Francisco Tarrega, Joaquin Turina and Heitor Villa-Lobos. A truly magnificent and broad ranging collection held together by Segovia's unique personal style, approach and sound.
Largely self-taught, Andres Segovia did things with a guitar that others only imagined. He didn't just play Bach, for example - music written for an entirely different type of instrument (keyboards.) He went a step further, and recorder Bach's keyboard lessons written for his students (the Two and Three Part Inventions) and made them sound as if they had been written for the guitar! His artistry is evident to even the casual listener and in this collection, any devote of classical guitar and/or of Segovia as an individual artist, will not be disappointed.
Perfect listening for anytime. Hypnotic and, simply, unsurpassed. A necessary addition to any serious classical guitar collection.
What can you say - it's Segovia!.......2007-02-10

"The weight" is over, pick this up and enjoy Duane's magic!.......2007-06-17
It has been a unanimous vote that the legion of Duane fans prefer the first Anthology. That said in no way does it desecrate the wide range of Duane's talents showcased on Volume 2.
Duane's brilliance can be appreciated even more once you get through a listen to both Anthologies. Many terrific players are locked into one style of playing and it becomes their calling card. The skill displayed by Duane is well noted but we never want to overlook how his talent went in so many directions. He could play the blues, country, folk, and rock but never did a solo or a rhythmic pattern feel inferior in one of those categories.
Duane's presence in a recording studio was good enough to push his fellow musicians into higher expectations. Listen closely to "Dirty Old Man." Lulu had a solid career in the U.K. (1960's) with her combination pop and rhythm and blues vocals. "Dirty Old Man" has her singing the blues and Duane providing the backing for her to confidently explore new territory.
"Matchbox" sounds wonderful with Ronnie Hawkins and Duane's excellent rendition.
"Walk On Gilded Splinters" from Johnny Jenkins is another highlight. Duane's guitar sounds as if it playing only for you. The entire 5:15 is captivating!
When the Duck & The Bear track "Goin' Up The Country" (It is the same song you all know and love from Al Wilson- Canned Heat) first resonates from the speakers you'll feel as you have been lassoed between the tweeters and woofers!
Even if the new math says "1 is greater than 2", two is pretty special!
Enjoy the music and be well,

This second album in Dancing Cat Records' Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Masters Series produced by George Winston follows its successful Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Masters. Again the masters of the genre are featured in several well-known tunes such as Lili'uokalani's "Aloha 'Oe" (played here by George Kahumoku) and "'Ulili E" (Dennis and David Kamakahi), as well as modern originals and two tracks that had not been available on CD before: "Ulu Niu Ke'eke'e" (George Kahumoku and Kekuhi Kanahele) and "Slack Key Serenade" (Leonard Kwan and Ozzie Kotani). The liner notes provide complete information on each song's original album.A balance of instrumental and vocal tracks, the compilation is a terrific starting point for exploring the artistic and stylistic diversity in modern slack key. Instruments on this album include everything from traditional mouth bow, 'ukulele, and percussion stones to 12-string slack key and modern acoustic guitars. Elder statesman Ray Kane lullabies us with his simple instrumental "Popoki Slack Key" (popoki means "little cat"); renowned improviser Cyril Pahinui and Sol Hoopii-influenced Bob Brozman combine 12-string slack key and acoustic steel guitar interpreting "Hilo E" and "Lili'u E" in a style evocative of the 1920s. Showing off how slack key works solo, in duets, or with mixed accompaniment, this is one of the most beautiful slack key compilations out there. --Erik Macki

Slack key has come into it's own, many prominent guitar players are following these talented Hawaiians around, learning their new tricks and their old traditional ways. (In song sample #8 of "Masters II", Amazon spelled Cyril Pahinui's name with a "g", come on, let's give the Hawaiian artists the respect they deserve.)
This is NOT a sequel to Slack Key MastersI, but a beautiful extension and addition. The voices as well as the strings are sublime, just right in fact.

Album Description
In the second installment of the series, Connecting The Universe Music has released a new relaxing journey with Detaching The World Vol. 2 - Ambient music for massage/relaxation/meditation. Through exploration of the unconscious, this music was designed as an offering by the artist to bring about complete relaxation to the listener. It allows for the unknown self to awaken and remember with comfort and ease.Musician and creator Emil Gagliardi brings to us nine new tracks with Vol. 2. This CD provides over 63 minutes in running time without the use of vocals or percussion. As the opening track "Peaceful Country" begins, Gagliardi's unique and inimitable style of ambient guitar immediately sets the tone for a tranquil relaxing atmosphere. On "Mirror", you feel yourself sinking deeper into the gentle hands of what the artist calls "The Nuit's Effect" while "The Fellowship" and "The Fellowship Reprise" are a meditation of three soothingly calm guitars journeying to the mystical unknown. "Hawaiian Compressions" is a three piece composition symbolizing the warming atmosphere of the sun while gently slipping into the earthy picturesque tones of "Healing Within". The last track, "Pulse", is the capture of a meditation right outside the artist's home where the ocean, mountains, and sky share one relaxed and rejuvenated heartbeat.
Emil Gagliardi continues to provide seekers of total relaxation with his unique and one of a kind style of music. As heard in the bestselling Detaching The World Vol. 1, his devotion to creating serene music for the healing arts goes unsurpassed by his peers. His music bestows upon the listener gentleness and ease like the inhalation and exhalation of the breath.

serene ambient guitar to help aid a stressful mind.......2004-10-27
Soon after my birthday, I finally had an afternoon to do nothing but try and unwind. I took my portable cd player outside with this cd and lied in my hammock. A few minutes after hitting play, I closed my eyes and had the most intense visualizations. It was as if each note from this music embraced my soul and projected a movie of warmth and comfort in my eyelids.
A few hours went by as I lay in my hammock listening to this cd repeat over and over. The calming effects of this music, combined with the hammock, had relaxed me beyond words. It was as if the stress detached my world (no pun intended).
As I look through the liner notes, I notice that this entire cd was created with guitars. Never in my life have I heard guitar sound so angelic and peaceful. All of this cd is great, yet the piece of music that comforts my heart the most is Pulse. Pulse has a calm heartbeat sound with this airy guitar melody that dances gently through the notes. Absoulutly beautiful!
I am bringing this cd to my next massage appointment in hopes that my therapist too will feel the heavenly ambiance that this music provides.

Amazon.com
Adagio follows in the rosin-dusted footsteps of The Impressionists, A Different Mozart, and A Different Prelude. As with those releases, it was produced by Dawn Atkinson and features many of the same artists. The results are as varied as the musicians. Violinist Tracy Silverman cuts one of his patented echo-delayed pizzicato violin arrangements of a Bach arioso, while Patrick O'Hearn drapes a somber keyboard shroud around the Adagio from Rodrigo's Fantasy for a Gentleman. Jeff Johnson and Brian Dunning find the Celtic air in the Adagio from Handel's Sonata in G, while Philip Aaberg discovers infinity between the notes of Barber's ubiquitous Adagio for Strings. He stretches the melody across his piano in finely drawn lines, subtlety filled out with synthesizer undertones. Subtlety is a casualty on Philipe Saisse's bongos, bells, and synth arrangement of Bach's Air on a G String. It's also sacrificed in a corny confection of Handel's Sarabande by Paul Schwartz. His ham-fisted electronic keyboards would've sounded dated even before Switched-On Bach. But Adagio features plenty of musicians who are willing to surrender themselves to their elegiac themes, including guitarist Steve Erquiaga, Mike Marshall, and Edgar Meyers. --John DilibertoCustomer Reviews:
Simply Gorgeous !.......2003-10-05
The artistry is stunning, the artists bring themselves to the music while at the same time maintaining the integrity of the original piece.
My favorite is Grieg's Nocturne, arranged and performed by Steve Erquiaga. I have been in love with his music from the moment
I heard his CD "Cafe Paradiso" (Imaginary road Records). It is absolutely stunning!
When I saw that he was on "Adagio" I went for it. I'm so happy that I did ...
Other hightlights for me are Philip Aaberg's "Adagio for Strings", Tracy Silverman's "Arioso" ..... they're all beautiful.
Thank You for this wonderful music.

Ween have never been accused of taking themselves too seriously. Music, on the other hand, is serious business indeed for the New Hope, Pennsylvania duo. As their career stretches into its second decade, they have a rabidly devoted fan base, no more ties to a major label, and a body of work that marks the most significant contribution to psychedelic music of the last ten years. In part this is because they don't hew to a limited definition of "psychedelic," making music that is trippy without being hippy. Over nine albums they've explored a music store's worth of genres with accomplished song craft and instrumentation, which can include anything from a drum machine to Elvis Presley's backup singers. In Shinola Vol. 1, a collection of songs left off other albums, the "brownest" strains of Ween's oeuvre are on proud display. "Brown" is the code word Ween uses to describe music that's warbly, pitch-shifted, and plain strange. The stompy, squirty opener "Tastes Good on the Bun" falls into this camp, as does the astral travelogue "The Rift." Elsewhere Ween's gleeful, Saturday morning cartoon side surfaces in "Boys Club," begging the question of when exactly they'll join Danny Elfman and Mark Mothersbaugh in writing music for movies (their occasional gigs for Nickelodeon and their disastrous collaboration with Pizza Hut notwithstanding). Their reverence of Prince is felt in "Monique the Freak," which contains what have to be the dumbest lyrics in the Ween canon. And "Gabrielle" could make it past even the most vigilant customs agent as a rare Thin Lizzy track. For a collection of odds-and-sods, Shinola Vol. 1 stands up remarkably well with other albums like The Mollusk and Quebec. Bring on Vol. 2. Hail Boognish. --Ryan BoudinotWeen's Brownest Albums

Land of the misfit toys.......2007-07-16
This record has a lot of great songs; well-produced, well-written tracks from the brothers Ween. As far as I can tell, the only reason why they weren't included in other albums would be that none of them seem like they would `fit' in the context of anything previously released. Solid songs from start to finish. They're the kind of songs that Ween has always been great at-- Infectious, creative, reminiscent of something you may have heard before, but can't remember where or when.

"In The Summertime" and all seasons its a Nice Day! .......2007-07-03
Are you ready for Volume 3? "Lay Down (Candles In The Rain)" - (Melanie) is the proper opening track. A tremendous vocal by Melanie and maybe her best gets the party started.
"Tighter, Tighter" - (Alive & Kicking) is everything you wanted in a short rock and roll tune. Great energy and a true 1970's classic!
"Green-Eyed Lady" - (Sugarloaf) One of the tunes that stood the test of time both as a Top 40 hit and often as the main course on the classic rockers! The keyboards will hook you immediately.
"Indiana Wants Me" - (R. Dean Taylor) If you listen to this song one time or twenty-seven, you always feel as if you are experiencing the character's run from the law as it happens. Tremendous imagery through the well constructed lyrics.
Only pitfall is the total playing time of the disc!
Enjoy the music and be well,

Have A Nice Day; Not As Good As Volumes 1 & 2 But Good !.......2005-09-15
These twelve songs peaked between July 1970 and August 1971. Volume 3 is definitely a worthwhile purchase. I mean afterall.....Back in the 70s I owned most of these twelve songs either on Vinyl or Tape and they have never sounded better than they do on this CD. Isn't technology amazing! 3.5 Stars
Final Note: I own both the cassette and the CD of this Volume 3 and the CD has twelve tunes while the cassette only has ten. The two extra tracks on the CD are Bobby Sherman's Top 10 Hit, Julie; Do Ya Love Me, and Punch's, Fallin Lady. Both are good tunes.
+ 1/2 stars...Some of the Biggest Hits of 1970.......2004-02-20
Like the previous volumes, it's a mixed bag of mostly MOR pop hits from one- and two-hit wonders. In fact, only three of these artists had any kind of extended musical career. Unlike Rhino's Sixties-oriented TOP ROCK 'N' ROLL series, which included many artists with multiple hits, the HAVE A NICE DAY series does not include major acts of the period like Rod Stewart, Three Dog Night or the Carpenters. These are --in many cases--songs that are infrequently anthologized, giving you a broader look at the early Seventies. [Each of these songs, by the way, were released in 1970.]
In addition, most of these were Top 10 hits (although "Fallin' Lady" didn't even dent the Top 40), and half of them were million sellers like the gospel-influenced "Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)," the quirky "In the Summertime," Bryan Hyland's lone Seventies smash "Gypsy Woman," the Partridge Family's signature song "I Think I Love You," the countrified funk of Jerry Reed's novelty "Amos Moses" and Bobby Sherman's schmaltzy "Julie, Do Ya Love Me." These are all original hit versions and the sound quality is empeccable. It's just a matter of how badly you want each of these songs.
Good mix of '70s pop sounds.......2000-06-29
There is Melanie's Joplin-esque "Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)", a truly marvelous song, and R. Dean Taylor's hard-to-find, country-influenced "Indiana Wants Me." Jerry Reed's "Amos Moses" has an even stronger country flavor and Bobby Bloom's "Montego Bay" features a gentle hint of calypso sound.
Although not expensive, it is hard to classify this disc as a top value. Like all of the offerings in the series, Volume III contains only twelve tracks, and the last two are virtual throw aways. However, considering the investment of time that would be required to locate all of these relatively obscure tunes, this is still quite a bargain.
