5 out of 5 stars A great find!.......2007-07-15

Sister Hazel did it again! They made a record that you can just stick in the car and play right through without ever hitting the "skip" button. There are many great songs on this album so it's hard to pick a favorite, but "On Your Mind" really does it for me. Hazel's excellent drummer, Mark Trojanowski, finds some incredible rythyms that are reminiscent of The Police - and then the vocal harmonies will just have you singing in the car. "Sweet Destiny" and "Boy Next Door" are two more irresistable melodies and reminders of all that is great about this band from Gainesville, Florida. "Grand Canyon" is just classic Sister Hazel and will have you up and dancing.
If you don't own any Sister Hazel yet, you really should check out Chasing Daylight and their last album, Absolutely, which is also loaded with greatness. Everyone needs at least 2 or 3 Sister Hazel albums to just put on at a party and then forget about needing to change the music. And if you watch their "rockumentary" DVD, "A Life in the Day", you'll see why those of us in Florida love to catch them live in concert . . . early and often!

5 out of 5 stars Great Great and just GREAT!!.......2007-07-15

Why in the H*ll don't these guys get to number ONE everywhere in the world??
Come on everybody!! , there is no band who writes songs like these do.
Here in holland some songs are used for commercials, and that's not what the songs are used for.
The songs need to be on radio for everyone to hear and buy!!

This album is a really great one, i rank it higher than LIFT and i think it's fair enough to say LIFT is GREAT but the weakests of al SH albums.
My favorite album is still to this date ' Chasing daylight' and its one of my all time favo albums!!

They say this album is all leftover!!, damn then i wanna hear everything else!!
This is just to great to be not released.
SWEET DESTINY and Sail AWAY or my favo songs of the album and there is not one bad song on here!!

Damn i LOve sister hazel!!!!

THANX GUYS

5 out of 5 stars Best Band Ever.......2007-07-09

Being a B-sides album definetely doesn't leave BAM! out of the competition for "Best Sister Hazel Album". Of course, it is impossibly hard to choose the best one - just as hard as it is to choose a favorite song out of BAM!. After listening to it a few times, you realize what a B-side means with Sister Hazel: instead of being not-so-good songs, they all fit right in with the rest of their work. The one reason why they didn't come out in previuos albums was lack of space, but they are really songs that should have always been there.

Most of the tracks go along the same lines as the band's previous records. There are the upbeat feel-good songs like Grand Canyon, and Sail Away, which takes you right into the Rock Boat, the band's yearly music festival at sea. Then there are the beautifully written ballads like Sweet Destiny, On Your Mind, and Mona Lisa.

For the fans who are always eager to hear the band doing something different, there's the punk-rock of Work In Progress, and the heavier Mosquito. But the one thing that is never different is that there is not one bad song in the whole album. Pretty soon you forget that these are songs you didn't know a short time ago, and each and every one of them becomes like an old friend you often find yourself thinking about.

The cover of BAM! shows the guys as superheroes, and that's what they really are. Time and again they manage to write a song that relates so completely with what is going on in our lives, it makes us feel like someone out there understands us, we're not alone and everything will be all right in the end. For me, this time, it's What Kind of Living, a catchy song about being stuck in a relationship going nowhere. Sister Hazel has saved my life more than once in this way, by bringing music and beauty to every kind of feeling, and for that they really are my superheroes.

Any Sister Hazel fan absolutely must have this album, because the collection would be incomplte without it. And anyone who is not yet a Sister Hazel fan... it's time to start! So turn up the volume, add a little BAM! to the Ginger Ale, and go have fun with this newest Hazel journey!

5 out of 5 stars ZAP, WHAM, BAM!.......2007-06-30

My first listen to this CD felt like someone had just strapped me on an exhilarating RIDE and I didn't want OFF! We are the lucky fans who get another ROCKIN CD from the Far Out Fab Five! From the first cut, What Kind of Living, you feel the energy! You know they're having a BLAST making this for their fans! Having listened to the Boy Next Door from Ken's acoustical set on TRB03, it's amazing to me that they have all these songs dancing in their heads for years! Work in Progress feels like it could be their theme song because following their passions have carved their careers in this fashion. Sweet Destiny is a classic SH song! Love the Block Copeland harmonies and the sha na na na nas! Especially love the instrumentals on the ending of On your Mind. Sick to My Soul has much energy, has you snapping, and lyrics that will surely touch alot of our heart strings. Mosquito is a song with a quirky analogy of to how love can make you feel. Not taking themselves too seriously is a trait we don't want them to lose! By the time you get to Little Black heart, you are in FULL throttle!! After the first verse and the instruments kick in, you're screaming, "YES!!" Definitely one of my favorites on this CD. Love the order of the songs too. You are ROCKIN hard and then Sail Away comes on, and smooths out the ride, taking you onto "higher ground"! Onto Wrong the Right Way and you feel yourself back in time somewhere, being able to relate. Never been to Grand Canyon, but listening to this song makes you want to explore and hike, and inspires you. Save Myself is an introspective tune, pushing you to let go of your fears and be true to yourself. Drew's southern drawl in Can't Get You Off My Mind reminds us of the many faces of these artists and how well they blend. As for She's Gone, I can't WAIT to hear this one LIVE! It starts off melancholy and by the time we get into Ryan's and Jett's guitars and Mark's heartbeat, don't have a face left - it was ROCKED OFF! Saving the best for last, Mona Lisas! Truth Is, when I kept hitting rewind, I knew it was my favorite! Ye-e-ah to Ryan's licks and kicks!

Thanking our lucky stars that these 5 musicians and the various other artists helping with producing, mixing, or playing their instruments, have produced this passionate, fun, lively CD! Anxiously awaiting more BAM!!! :O)

5 out of 5 stars add a little "BAM" to the gingerale!!.......2007-06-25

Sister Hazel is everything that music should be. The artists are five of the nicest guys who genuinely care about their fans. With all they give to the "Hazelnut" community, they really are like their superhero characters on the cover. Listening to a Hazel cd is like hanging out with a close group of friends. It's fun, comfortable, and you can spend hours and hours with them and it feels like just a few minutes. And, like with true best friends, you are challenged to think, feel, and connect. Sister Hazel's songs are meaningful, soulful, and speak to the world in which we live, and the hearts in each of us. With honest, raw passion, the music reflects all the different places on the emotional spectrum and takes the listener on a journey from heartache to utter ecstasy. There is enough "grit" in the music to keep it real, and yet from the positive optimism in the songs we learn that if we really try, reach out to others, and go for our dreams, we can make this world a really great place. Sister Hazel does not disappoint with their newest cd, BAM! The long-time Hazlnuts will love the smorgasbord collection of "B sides and rarities" and those new to Sister Hazel will be sucked in immediately and will want to add all the other cds to their collection. All of the lyrics, vocals, and instrumental work come together to make a top-notch rock album filled with different colors and textures. Like with all their other cds, there is not a bad song, or even one that is just so-so. You can listen to BAM all the way through over and over again and the songs will still hit you like the first time.

5 out of 5 stars Classic 80's Album...a Must have H&O album...but..........2007-03-16

I was excited to receive this album on CD as I was never able to find it at my local Best Buy for some time. I was even more eager to order the CD after I saw that this was a "ReMastered" CD. However, the sound quality isn't exactly crisp and clear. Portions of the CD sound muffled. I only paid $7.97 so I should have expected this. This album is truly a H&O classic and the additional remixes of "Out of Touch", "Dance on Your Knees", and "Possession Obsession" add a nice touch to close out this disc. However, the sound quality, though not horrible, was not what I hoped for.

5 out of 5 stars Big Bam Boom.......2007-01-10

Top album! The mix is typical 80's clean, but it's got the big bass sound behind it. Hall and Oates make most song writers these days look like hacks (probably because most are, in my opinion).

5 out of 5 stars Lighten up, guy who wrote last review.......2005-08-20

Let me make sure I've got this straight. "Two Sony XA7 decks run via identical Acoustic Zen coax cables to a Camelot Uther DAC"? Egads, man, it's not a Space Shuttle, it's a CD. Just put it on, turn it up and enjoy!

3 out of 5 stars Been wondering about the U.S. remasters vs. the expensive Japanese K2 RM's?.......2005-08-06

Well, here's your answer: The Japanese win. Hands down. Big time.

To start off, I compared the album tracks of the 2004 U.S. remastered versions of VOICES, H20 & BIG BAM BOOM against the limited edition, Japanese, K2 remastered, album mini-LP-sleeve replication versions of the same titles. Then I compared the bonus track remixes on each U.S. remaster to their counterparts on the Japanese-only 12-INCH COLLECTION, VOLUMES 1 & 2.

The comparisons were performed using two Sony XA7 decks run via identical Acoustic Zen coax cables to a Camelot Uther DAC. Those of you who know your gear know that this is about as good as it gets under $25,000.

I cannot attest if the difference between the two remastering results are a result of:

1.) The K2 process being more robust than whatever mastering equipment was used (at Sony Studios in NYC) for the U.S. versions
2.) Whether the Japanese utilized source material closer to the original masters than the U.S. versions, or
3.) If the Japanese engineering was just better, or they took more time & care, than their U.S. counterparts.

Whatever the case may be, the K2 albums, and the two Japanese remix Collections, blow the U.S. versions out of the building. There is more of everything: More gain, bigger soundstage, more definition and, oh yeah, baby, more bottom end. The remixes on the U.S. versions are adequate; on the Japanese COLLECTION CD's, they THUNDER.

The three U.S. titles have nine additional remix tracks. All of these tracks appear on the two Japanese COLLECTION titles. All of the sonic accolades I attributed to the individual K2 album remasters apply to these two CDs also.

The bottom line? If you're a fan of the band, you have the cash and some above-average gear, the K2's and the dual-remix CD's are the ticket. While the entire RCA H&O catalog is available on the limited edition K2's (with the nice mini-LP sleeves), there would be some serious moolah required to acquire the full set. I consider the 3 titles mentioned here to be their best overall work from that period, so I opted for just those.

I'm currently piling thru all of the "Hits" packages from recent years to determine which has the best audio. It will be interesting to run the 2004 "Ultimate" set against the new "Essential" package.

3 out of 5 stars Nice packaging, bonus tracks, sub-par sound.......2005-06-21

i saw the remasters and was pleased to see the 12"'s included as my original copies are pretty worn. However, getting to what matters, the sound. I opened and saw Darcy Proper's credit to the remastering and thought "oh no..." As usual, quite heavy noise reduction was used, leaving the sound feeling like it's trying to burst through a wall. It just sounds very processed. My recommendation for cd is either the 1996 remaster or the import Japanese 24 bit, which is a little bright but very nice overall. As for the the 12", i'm gonna splurge and get the Japanese 2-volume collection, which are 24 bit and reportedly sound very nice. Should have done that to start with! Oh well....

4 out of 5 stars Hank Coming Back.......1998-07-31

This is Hank Williams, Jr's best since Lone Wolf back in 1990. "Honky Tonked All to Hell" is a typical, rowdy, foot stomping, Bocephus tune which rivals "Hotel Whiskey" from a few years ago. Also, "It Makes a Good Story" is a tune written by Hank that shows he not all drinking and partying. The best track on the CD is "Let's Keep the Heart in the Country", another Bocephus original which could be a big hit if another artist recorded it.

5 out of 5 stars Gene Harris and Ray Brown.......2005-09-05

Here is another album with Gene Harris and Ray Brown.
Gene Harris is always 10 stars (see my other reviews where I compare classical and jazz musicians).
Ray Brown is one of the greatest bassists of the world, along with Niels Orsted Pedersen and Sam Jones (a former Oscar Peterson's bassist)

Just listen the last track (BAM BAM BAM) and see what Gene and Ray are able to do !

5 out of 5 stars This is a must have!.......2004-01-11

Ok, this is one of those jazz records you must have if you are looking for lots of swing and superb piano and bass playing. Gene Harris will play it brilliantly in your home hi-fi if you give him the chance to perform his own version of «Summertime» (beware because you may become addicted to it...). As for Ray Brown you can't help liking his palying in «F.S.R.» and RIO. Don't hesitate in buying this record. It will pay you back in pleasure evey dollar you are spending.

4 out of 5 stars The great late Ray Brown.......2002-12-01

This is a technically impecable live recording, featuring an inspired trio who teaches a lot on performing solid state, straightahead jazz. Ideal for all kinds of audiences and also for those who want to listen to Ray Brown's harmonic and rhythmic superb technique.

Product Description

Chicago's legendary DJ Bam Bam drops his first mix compilation in over 3 years, this time under his own appropriately titled independent label, Bass Heavy Music. This long awaited release features 35 speaker bumpinÂ’ tracks, with music produced by DJ Bam Bam and a small hand picked group of similar artists that appear on his label. Emceed by the very vocal Alex Peace, this mix is an amazing display of Bam's marvelous talent that emphasizes his wild scratching, beat tricks, and rhythmic synth and percussive patterns over ground shaking beats. Arguably his best work to date, DJ Bam Bam once again proves that he is a dominating DJ in the hard electronic scene and stakes his claim in the virtual DJ hall of fame.

    4 out of 5 stars THERE'S NEVER A BAD PERCY FAITH ALBUM.......2003-03-08

THERE ARE THREE SONGS ON THIS CD THAT I REALLY LIKE. "YESTERDAY", "MAKE IT EASY ON YOURSELF" AND "EVERYONE'S GONE TO THE MOON". THE INSTRUMENTAL STYLE THAT PERCY FAITH EMPLOYS MAKES THESE SONGS UNIQUELY ATTRACTIVE TO THE EAR. AS I SAID IN ANOTHER REVIEW, HE CAN TAKE AN ORDINARY HIT SONG AND TURN IT INTO A GORGEOUS CONCERTO.

3 out of 5 stars A great album and something less makes up this twofer.......2002-04-07

Percy Faith's fans must be forever thankful to Collectables label to have brought to CD issue nearly all his Columbia label output - all available here @Amazon. To lesser quotation for these CDs it should be pointed out to the twofer blend of albums which don't combine at all although the economic appeal is a strong one. Maybe it should be the case to combine "Bim Bam Boom" with "Music from Brazil" or "Delicado" but never to "Theme from the In-Crowd", one of the lesser Faith's productions, maybe saved by his beautiful arrangement of "Yesterday". "Bim Bam Boom" is a 5-star album, a blend of 7 Brazilian sambas more 4 Latin originals (one penned by Faith in his Latin-style). Among the Brazilian tunes you'll find Edu Lobo's standard "Reza", Luís Bonfá's standard "Samba from Black Orpheus", and Tom Jobim's "Estrada Branca" from his early composition efforts which was widely recorded in English under the tile "This Happy Madness". "Maracangalha" is also a traditional Brazilian samba written by famed Dorival Caymmi although Faith's arrangement might mislead listeners to confound it to a Cuban-rhythmed tune. Faith also offers beautiful arrangements to some original material for American audiences. "No Balanço do Jequibá" and "Sim" both show a particularly different broken beat to the samba as invented by maestro Ciro Pereira. An English version of the Jequibá samba was recorded by Andy Williams under the title "Pretty Butterfly" in his album "And We Were Lovers" [available here @Amazon]. Pure artistry. And a special quotation to the American drummer (unfortunately, not credited in the cover booklet) for his rather authentic Brazilian beat - generally difficult to achieve by non-Brazilian drummers. Another special quotation to the sax and flute solos specially on romantic bossa nova arrangements. A big 5-star quotation for "Enlloro", the impressively strong arrangement penned by Faith. "Bim Bam Boom" was another Faith's album which has made my teen years happier. Just to end, no comments for the other album.

5 out of 5 stars "Faith is still with us...through his arrangements of music".......2002-02-21

When someone who loves music as we do, unbelievable and unforgettable arrangements, strings and counter-melodies...one name comes to mind...PERCY FAITH!

Faith's uncanny ability to reach the heartstrings of your inner feelings, can only be described as a velvety touch with rich, resonant melody accompanied by concert orchestration from traditional tunes to the popular songs of the day...one of my favorite albums is Faith's instrumental achievement "The Beatles Album", what a wonderful tribute to an outstanding British group of entertainers.

Which brings me to the stand outs of the album at hand...Mr. Faith has the pulse of Latin Music, which means he can arrange, perform and give you a Salsa treatment better than any musician I know of ~ "BIM BAM BOOM", strictly alive and well with energy to spare, captures the mood and swing of the Latino movement with pure Latin-American rhythms..."SAMBA DE ORFEU"(Samba From Black Orpheus), beautifully orchestrated beyond belief, Faith at his best and his first love of music from south of the border.

My highlight pick is ~ "OYE NEGRA", Faith's colorful crossmixed style with expressive arrangements add a new texture of sound...witness the transformation of strings, brass as orchestration blends together the perfect marriage..."YESTERDAY", the classic Lennon and McCartney tune, solo violin and counterpoints from the orchestra give this a one-of-a-kind experience that you'll remember forever.

We lost this legendary composer/arranger/artist in the '70s, but through Collectable Records, we can relive and enjoy the music of icon Percy Faith!

    5 out of 5 stars Percy's best Latin album.......2001-09-29

Bim! Bam! Boom! is definitely Faith's best latin album, featuring songs that would soon become classics of the Bossa Nova era. In fact, the tunes recorded here were recorded before the vocal versions became popular such as Estrada Branca and No Blanco Do Jequiba. Both tunes became classics, so it's nice to hear them before lyrics were added. And as a bonus, on the tune Estrada Blanca, Faith takes it at a tempo so completely different from the version that Antonio Carlos Jobim (who composed the song) and Frank Sinatra take on their version, that you may not initially recognize it! Faith's version of Yesterday is beautifully done with strings, far better than his later version on his album, Percy Faith plays the Beatles. Great album!

Awesome 8 piece hard swinging live jazz album. Not a bad cut on it anywhere...even the downbeat pieces cook. Great blues number and Moten Swing makes your hair stand up on end....Check it out if you like Mulligan Concert Jazz Band or cool/ be-bop.

5 out of 5 stars Jesus Is Lord.......2005-06-12

This Cd is very good for the spirit songs like "Thou Art Worthy", and "So Nice" really touched me. And "Mercy Seat" which was produced by my girl Sheila E is a great track. The choir is outstanding and Jackie Gouche-Farris brings a vocal touch and strength to everything she sings. It's great. The writing is great as well every song says something that will inspire you or make u shout. A must have.

4 out of 5 stars Worship & Praise At Its Best!.......2001-04-04

God has done it again! The anointed words that flow in these lyrics are so encouraging - they make you want to run and tell the lost about Jesus' Feast. I thank God for their obedience to worship! Selah.

This CD is wonderful, my favorite songs are In Spite of MySelf, Mercy Seat, In The Presence Of The Lord and So Nice.
