Small Price and Great Music.......2007-03-11

I purchased this as a present and he loves it. A nice music mix. If you like german band music/octoberfest music - this is the one.

Great Music in the Spirit of Oktoberfest.......2006-08-01

As manager of "The Oktoberfest Webring," I am always on the lookout for CD's of good Oktoberfest music. In this particular CD, all of the songs are played by the German Air Force Band and are taken from another CD entitled, "More German Military Marches & Polkas - Vol. II." As you might expect, most of the selections are not--strictly speaking--Oktoberfest numbers. However, they are played and sung in the light-hearted, breezy manner typical of Oktoberfest. In addition, the band and singers give top-notch performances. So, as a CD of Oktoberfest-like music, I give this product high marks. It would probably make great background music for any Oktoberfest.

The Soundtrack to Chubby Lou's Life........2005-12-20

Every Oktober (that's German for "October") Chubby Lou throws his annual Oktoberfest celebration. It's quite well known in the south, as we go on a stint of "bier trinken" (that's german for drinking beer). Seeing Chubby Lou in his Lederhosen is quite possibly the greatest thing ever, it's more memorable than your first born child. His stomach sticks out and he doesn't care, he dances the night away with his chalice full of beer. Everyone makes it out, the whole sizzle chest crew (big frank, cheese grits and lupus fury) we all have superior dancing skills than anyone attending the party. Chubby Lou loves oktoberfest so much that we have to tell him that it's over, otherwise he won't stop celebrating, he once celebrated 3 months straight and lost his job, got evicted, and his car was repocessed, we all had good laughs after that. Chubby Lous mom holds down the cooking, nothing but schnitzel, bratwurst and sauerkraut, pommes frites (that's german for french fries) all night long, she loves it. The track that really puts the party in 6th gear is " Komm Und Tanz" we played this song and danced for 3 hours, the police were called to break the famous shin-dig up, but they always end up joining the party, who can resist fine ladies, german beer, and non stop polka tanzen (that's polka dancing in german). We usually round off the end of the celebration with a 6 hour tribute to Hasselhoff, and score like Robin Yount on 3-2 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th. Anyways, I hope you see now that this is a mandatory oktoberfest keep-sake.

This is a wonderful collection of festive German songs, great for listening to at parties, dinners, or your own Oktoberfest!

Very similar to early Marillion and Rush: evolving work.......2003-12-29

Quite clearly there are striking similarities between the voice of Arena's lead singer and that of Fish (from early Marillion). And so are there resemblances in some of their harmonies with Rush's music. But the bottom line is that Arena hasn't stopped at that, in the same way as IQ didn't. Their work has only evolved (as Marillion's did from their VERY Geneis-like early days!) to get better and better, putting them among the greatest of (art) prog rock of these days, alongside Flower Kings and the like. Though this might not be their best album, it is far from deserving a solitary one star like another reviewer gave them. I see 'Songs From the Lions Cage' as a solid four stars.

Not so bald... nor even two-wigged........2001-12-08

By reading the reviews right here you can notice two things:
1- This is a superb early-90s prog rock band, or
2- This is a shamelessly clone of an average copy from a prog rock sacred idol.
In my humble opinion Arena's not one thing nor the other.
Arena is a well balanced modern prog rock assemble with a strong influence from early bands. By no means they're bad musicians or performers. Their compositions are well above average for a newly formed band (by the time they released this album).

The ¨Crying for help¨ series conform a good concept set. ¨Jericho¨ and ¨Solomon¨ are two very thoroughly assembled compositions both in music and poetry.
Of course, if you're that kind of radical Genesis fan(atic) that do not accept by any means listening to another similar bell, I guarantee you'll hate it.
Otherwise, just give it a chance. Listen to it, and judge for yourself.

Unexpected revelation, two beautiful numbers included.......1999-05-12

This album is an unexpected revelation. Comparising can be made with Asia and a touch of Marillion. The title song is of a high standard, only the producer didn't get the best out of the CD. It is to rough, it should sound a little bit more in line with the technics the group members use to play there instruments. I also bought "Pride", compared to Songs from the Lions Cage, a failure.

An imitator of an Imitator of an....a waste of money........1999-05-07

You have to be a teenager or totally new to Prog.Rock to like this shamefull band, read the other reviews and see it by yourself. Marillion the best imitator ever of Genesis is the inspiration of this band ! and Marillion next to be a proud imitator has nothing to offer. Boring and ZERO originality, get Genesis, Eloy Grobschnitt, Crimsom, Tempano, Camel, Happy the Man or any other very original band, do not waste your money.

Music as good as old Marillion.......1999-01-09

This fantastic album is much like the kind of music as performed by early Marillion (with Fish). If you like(d) old Marillion, you'll love this, too. No wonder, as Arena is founded by Mick Pointer, well known as Drummer of early Marillion! I can also highly recommend the 2nd album of arena, "Pride".
