The Tummelers, an exhuberant four piece Klezmer ensemble from Baltimore, takes its name from the Yiddish word "tummel". In Yiddish, "to tummel" means "to make a joyful noise". And that is the spirit this band evokes, with the emphasis on the joy. The group's four musicians, who have each played Klezmer music in other venues for over fifteen years, formed The Tummelers to further explore the Klezmer genre. The Tummelers have played for a variety of audiences in the Baltimore-Washington area. They give every event a genuine Jewish flavor that evokes the wandering Klezmer bands of the European shtetles. Besides traditional Klezmer, Yiddish theater, and Jewish Swing music, they have a full repertoire of Israeli dance music.
Featured in both The Baltimore Sunday Sun and The Baltimore Jewish Times, The Tummelers received high praise for their musicianship and ability to energize their audiences. Both articles emphasize that this band plays genuine klezmer music with an authentic style.
