The Minnesota Klezmer band is certainly one of the undiscovered jewels of the American music scene. The band marries compositions alternating between achingly beautiful and ravingly upbeat - all by Joe Vass. Though in name and in soul a band springing from the Jewish klezmer tradition, there is much here for any lover of unique and original music. Nothing more needs to be said than that this CD will replay many many listenings. For the Jazz fan, you will find yourself at first drawn to 'Yerushalayim Shel K'chol', 'Minnesota Tango', 'Ashes and Dust' and 'Simchat Torah' - all compositions that rank among the finest, especially amongst those fusions between Western and 'Oriental' traditions. But eventually, every listener will find themselves singing along to 'Klezmer Time' - an invectious rave-up. And when you want to check whether the troubles of your day merits whining, give a real hard listen to 'Bulka's Song'. Really, buy this CD. Even if you are not Jewish and never heard of klezmer, this will be one of your best CD purchases.
