This album is really the number two album from this trio. It is very good and well worth the investment. The five star album by The Irish Tenors would have to be Heritage. Both albums rate high in my book.

This is my first CD of the Irish Tenors. And what a joy! I played it as soon as it arrived. I like the blend of their voices,the passion and enthusiasm they bring to this CD. What I find is a real treat is the words to all the songs are in the booklet.I love this CD.

This recording is wonderful. Ronan's "last Rose of summer" is unique, the Percy French medley shows all three in great voice, Finbar's Maggie is wonderful and the laurels have to go to Anthony for his magnificent rendition of "She moved through the fair", wow!!!!

Accurate reflection of pub songs.......2007-03-23

We enjoyed the fact that this CD follows the tradition of pub songs and ballads. My husband and I surprisingly liked the ballads as much or more than the pub songs. Only 1 song has tonal quality because the singer forgot the words and the backup musicians don't come through strong enough; but that actually adds character to it since you know it is not being performed in a sterile recording booth somewhere. Enjoyed it!

A new type of Celtic rock.......2004-05-30

This cd is a great collection of ecletic tracks from excellent artists with a variety of themes. All are done in rhythms that have at least your head bopping and foot tapping, and usually give you an incredible desire to stand up and dance.

What a find!.......2003-02-18

I have a huge CD collection and this is one of my favourites of all time. This is one of the best obscure CDs of all time. Every song is a masterpiece, often mixing contemporary styles with traditional Irish ones. You will be shaking your head as I do and saying "why are they people not famous!". Most of it has a soft-rock feel, but not in the pejorative sense. It was great to find 6 new artists that I'm now a fan of.

Well, it certainly is Celtic........2000-11-25

My friend let me borrow this album. He said he hated it. He wanted to know what I think. I played it, I don't think I heard one electric on there. I did hear an acoustic on every song though. I also heard an abundance of flutes and fiddles though. I don't recall hearing any rock on this album, maybe a lot of folk, but not rock. Even so, some of the songs are cool. I like "Bonnie Winds" by Bohinta. But, in my opinion, if you REALLY want to hear Celtic music, and you aren't used to folk, go get some Van Morrison, U2, or the Cranberries. Not worth your hard earned money, no matter how cheap it is.

2 stars, 1 for good acoustic guitar riffs.
1/2 for some pretty nifty lyrics.
1/2 for the use of instruments I don't hear too much of.

The different groups in this CD did and excelent job........1999-07-13

I thought that this was going to be just another boring CD, but when I got it home I was surprised to find that is was a mix of these different bands who all have very interesting styles. Once I had listened to all of the songs on there I wanted to get all of there ceperate CD's. Hey if anyone knows how I can get the different CD's from the groups on Celtic Invasion please write me.

The melodies on Collection may be ancient but this is the sound of a revolution. I have been looking for a long time for a Irish album like this one. This is a collection of many traditional airs, reels, and slides that are performed very well. I heard many of these tracks when I visited Ireland a couple of years ago. If you are looking for a album that really represents the full range of traditional Irish music, I really encourage you to purchase this album.

No Hype -- Just the Finest "Best of " Chieftains Collection.......2002-08-02

There are several "best-of" Chieftains compilations, released on a handful of different labels, but this one is the best. This record, as well as the other Claddagh Chieftains releases, tends to get overlooked in the record store bins in favor of the the flashier Columbia and RCA discs. This is a shame, since the Chieftains did some of their purest, most exhilarating recording for Claddagh.

These recordings were made long before the so-called "Celtic Revival" of the Riverdance-era, for a traditional music label who respected the music too much to march a never-ending parade of celebrity singers through the Chieftains' studio or design New Agey covers for their albums. The bare- bones production on this disc does a far better job of capturing the Chieftains' energy and inventive arrangements than the later state-of-the-art recordings. This is most apparent on "Carolan's Concerto", a tune the Chieftains have recorded several times in their career with the likes of James Galway and the Irish National Orchestra, but never as well, and to such dramatic effect, as they did here -- playing by themselves, in a quiet studio without benefit of reverb or extra musicians, elevating Carolan's simple tune to a soaring masterpiece.
