Fun and energetic J-rock album.......2007-06-23

Tomoko Kawase's second album in her Tommy Heavenly persona completely took me by surprise, won me over, and has made me a total fan.

I originally bought it after hearing one of the tracks, "Pray", featured as the first opening theme of the anime series, "Gintama." I loved "Pray", so my hopes were that some of the other songs would be similar, and the remainder wouldn't be horrible. Right from the first song, though, I realized that the other songs on the album not only came close, but I liked them even more.

"Heavy Starry Chain" is the opener, and sets the album's style and tone. The heavier-than-Jpop sound, quick tempo, and of course, Tommy Heavenly's voice (which I've always liked) are standard fare on every song with the exception of the two ballads. After the opener, the album moves into "stay away from me", and then "I'm Gonna SCREAM+", which is another highlight song and one of the best on the album. A few songs later, "DOOR MAT" and "Lollipop Candy eBADe girl" are two more fun and play-them-loud songs.

The first ballad, "ABOUT U," is not at all bad; placed about halfway through the album, it provides a good break to the quick and rocking songs surrounding it. "I e XMAS", which follows, is the second ballad, though it's slightly more up-tempo than the first ballad.

"Pray" follows those two, however, and leads the album back to the quicker speeds of the first several songs, and after "GOING 2 MY WAY !", the final song, "Lucky Me", closes it out in style.

I liked "Pray" and could listen to it over and over, so I was very surprised when -- after listening to the whole album -- it only ranked as about my fourth or fifth favorite song! "Heavy Starry Heavenly" is filled with enjoyable songs that you can listen to over and over, without any real "skipper" songs. If you enjoy upbeat Jrock, or like Jpop and don't mind a little heavier sound, Tommy Heavenly's second album in her "Heavenly" persona is worth every penny to import. *Highly recommended*!

So I hear that Tommy is going for a new style and name, which is no longer Tommy February but Tommy Heavenly. I must admit that I do like this CD, I especially like "2bfree" and "Fell In Love With You". This CD all in all is pretty good, it has its wide range of dark/punk kind of music and its love/cute kind of music.

Yes, that's the name of the artist and the album. Also known as Tommy february6, and Tomoko Kawase from The Brilliant Green, this is her rock alter-ego. If you want Tommy's crazy musical humor but are looking for something less 80's-pop and more in the style of Avril Lavigne, this is a good album for you.
