Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fleur De Metal- French Pop With A Lot Of Style.......2001-11-14

I must begin by saying that I have no background about this group, but if they ever recorded anything else besides this, I'd buy it without hesitation. This much I do know: In the 1980's with the ascendance of New Wave, music embraced all the possibilities of the arts, utilizing film and video, as well as graphic art and design, fashion, a total look, and a brave outlook as to what could be accomplished in the recording studio. Musicians were not afraid to show off their knowlege of Classical Music, Jazz, Experimentation, World Music and a real
understandstanding of the instruments they played. It wasn't uncommon to hear groups like The Motels or Romeo Void do a pure pop song, incorporating saxophones, violins, cellos, or even the exotic sitar (brought back from it's vogue in The Sixties), as well as the usual lineup of guitars, drums and keyboards. Lyrics were as poetry to many artists; Pop Music found a new direction. On the Continent of Europe, it was no different. France gave the world the still wonderful Indochine (still recording, God Bless Them All), Taxi Girl, Les Avions... Beautiful flashes to hear again and again. Which leads me to Jad Wio- This album was recorded in 1992, but it sound so fresh and new, a joy to hear. Great pop songs, lush orchestration, and a voice to take you in away in the night. Tres Continental- Tres Chic. If you love the later years of Roxy Music as well as Bryan Ferry, or Miguel Bose, or Jean-Louis Murat, if you're still inspired by the musical visions of Billy MacKenzie, try this album out. Take a chance- I promise you won't regret it.
