Grupo Caribes second CD Ritmo Nativo includes a variety of Mambo/Salsa arrangements including the popular rhythms of Guaguanco, Guaracha, Cha Cha Cha, Bomba, Bolero and Latin Jazz. The music was composed and arranged for dancers as well as listeners. The compositions and arrangements are by musicians who are very active in the Salsa scene such as Jose Madera, Louis Bauzo, Pepe Castillo and Sergio Rivera. The Ritmo Nativo CD includes one Christmas song arranged by Jose Madera with special guests Yomo Toro Y La Lloroncita.
The personnel in the band are all veteran musicians and have played with the best Latin bands in the business including; Tito Puente, Machito, Larry Harlow, Eddie Palmieri, Mongo Santamaria, and Willie Colon. Sergio Rivera Director, Pianist, composer and arranger has performed with Raphael Cortijo, Kako Y Sus Estrellas, Orestes Vilato Y Los Kimbos and The Orlando Marin Orchestra.
Grupo Caribes CDs can be heard in NYC on WBGO, WBAI, WKCR, WFDU, and WHCR. We are also getting airplay in Atlanta, Cleveland, Hawaii, San Francisco, Monterey, Los Angeles, Boston, Miami, Texas and Arizona. Grupo Caribe has appeared on the Rosa Diamante Show and the International Salsa Museum Show on CableVisions Manhattan Neighborhood Network. Radio interviews have been conducted on the Vicki Sola Show WFDU, and the Nancy Rodriguez Show on WBAI, Chico Alvarez Show WBAI, and Jose Clausell Show WKCR.
Grupo Caribe can be seen performing at Gonzalez y Gonzalez , Club Babalu, NoMoore Blues Café, The Latin Quarter, Tito Puentes Restaurant, Joes Pub, Nells, Jack Roses Restaurant, La Maganette, La Belle EPoque and the Brooklyn Academy of Music Café. Grupo Caribe has also performed at venues such as the Plaza Hotel, the Loisaida Annual Street Fair, and on the Banco Popular Float in the Puerto Rican Day Parade this year.
