About the Artist
Born in Lafayette Louisiana of African, French and Attacappas Native Indian lineage. He was named Thaddius Prejean at birth and his earliest memories are of the fertile musical tradition of the Delta blues, gospel and zydeco music he was born into. His early recollections also include the ugly reality of segregation, the KKK and lychings. A natural musician he started performing publicly at age 7. He still gigs with the 3/4 size Duosonic Fender guitar his father gave him in 1959. As a young teenager Thaddeus felt the calling to serve God and attended the Divine Word Catholic seminary in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi for Black boys training to be a priest. Not feeling edified by the Catholic program Thaddeus strapped his guitar on his back and stuck out his thumb hitchiking N. America from coast to coast and Canda to Belize Central American as well as Europe, Thaddeus settled in Canada in the early 70's. He was attracted to the beautry of Canada's west coast, but more importantly he says 'it was a breath of fresh air because Canadians would treat a southern Black youth as a man - not a nigger.' 1972 found Thaddeus living a hermetic life on the West Coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. After a long period of solitute one day the wind stilled, the animals became silent and an otherworldly presence came upon Thaddeus that he can only describe as the presence of the Holy Spirit. He was told to change his name to Dark Fire Cloud, to quit trimming the locks of his head, to abstain from alcohol and funerals and to pursue a musical ministry. The newly ordained Reverend Cloud started performing a repertoir of origional and R & B covers like Jackie Wilson's 'Your Love Keeps Taking Me Higher' but changing the lyrics to 'God's Love Keeps Taking Me Higher.' It was during this time that Cloud released his first recording. a 7 inch 45 titled 'We Are The Children Of God.' The flip side was called 'Coast To Coast With The Holy Ghost.' The mid 70's found Cloud visiting Jamaica attracted to the mystical rhythms of reggae music. Two years of touring and doing session work with the cream of reggae musicians inbued Cloud with a grassroots love of Jamaica and its music. Then Cloud felt the calling to return to his own Louisiana roots were he came upon a hybrid synthesis of reggae and zydeco music. Zydeco is the indiginous music of Louisiana Creole people that parallels the Cajun music of Louisiana people of European origin. Both forms feature uptempo squeezebox rhythms and washboard percussions. 1989 marked the release of Cloud's first E.P. titled 'So Jah Say - Zydeco Reggae' which has been warmly received. After touring extensively on the bar and college circuit from Memphis to Florida and California to Oregon, Cloud is now stationed in Switzerland and is starting to spread his unique music to the European continent. Ever optimistic Cloud expresses his view of the future; 'With The Stuff We Us You Can't Loose.'

Cloud,
We have been waiting for this jewel since K's visit to Switzerland where she first heard some of your music live. What a fantastic treat for the ears...not to mention, the soul. Gentle but powerful, soulful and serious, sweetened and fired up by Cloud's trademark harmonica and sassy guitar. A perfect blend of cultures and class and cosmic connections. Love this one more than anything else.

Dark Fire Cloud's lyrics have meaning and value. I'm not normally a fan of Reggae but this CD tops all I've heard. The variety of rhythms is captivating. Track 3 has the bass sound like the "Police"--remember them? His connection with the Father is truly evident! We can all benefit from his muscial ministry. These tunes lift me higher. God Bless

5 out of 5 stars Good music!.......2000-09-10

When I first popped this cd into my player I was skeptical but after my first listen I was very happy. Dark Fire Cloud's voice is wonderful and the music is first rate. His Louisiana background makes this a *different* sound in reggae but to me that's what so great about it. The production is smooth and it's a must have for one's collection. My fav on this cd is The Lord's Prayer. Nice music!!

I admit when I first received this cd I was very skeptical, but as soon as it hit my cd player, all that faded away. Dark Fire Cloud's music is as refreshing as a spring day. I love his voice, the music is great and with the musical vibes Cloud brought with him from Louisiana, I truly enjoyed this reggae cd. My favorite cut on the cd is The Lords Prayer. Big up to the production company, and to Dark Fire cloud for an excellent release. Thank you so much....
