Spectacular reggae album - one of the year's best!.......2000-10-03
Columbia Records recording artists, Worl-A-Girl drops two bombs in "International Lover" and "You That I Want", a taste of straight up reggae and Hip-Hop. Diva B, a member of the Atlantic Records recording group Dancehall Divas, teams with Zerby to sings Diana Ross' "Sweetest Hangover". Scorpion tells you what the girl them want a "Good Musician". It's the bambam with a pinch of high-life to get your groove on.
Richie Tech shouts out about the kind of girl that he doesn't want in "Fenka Fenka". It's no-holds-barred ruggedness. Zerby mashes up the mike and gets personal on "Big Pipe" and "Damage". She is really a force to look out for, and may be the first white girl into reggae deejaying! Bandy Leg is telling the world that it's time to come "Back to Reality". Scorpion and Winga, Select Records recording artists, do a justified version of "I'm Your Puppet" with "Call Anytime". I'm not much for covers unless they shock-out, and I really think that this one is a boom. Now look out for the Jamaican Tevin Campbell, Razah, with a smooth as silk voice doing two of his finest, "You Can Go Away Girl" and "Why You Wanna Do It Girl".
Next comes Mr. Culture himself, Delroy Williams, teaming up with Scorpion to say who sent them to do the work in, "Jah Send Me Come"; like most hit songs you can tell when you hear it. Delroy comes back to get "Closer Than Before", which sounds like one of the smoothest lovers rock that I have heard in a long time. Then steps in Mr. Sleepy, Horace Andy. He is one of reggae's household names from the 1960's and still going strong with "That's Life".
Now what is this? Denise De La Cruz, giving you her version of Whitney Houston's "My Love is Your Love" in Spanish, watch out Jennifer Lopez! Links and Scorpion step up to give you their version of Betty Wright's "Tonight is the Night" with "Tonight". Last but not least, Mr. Dancehall, the Don Dada, the big bad Jamaican from the movie "Belly" (he thugged around with DMX), Louie Rankin seems to have all the stuff it takes to stay uptown because there is no "Downtown" for this man.
I think I can really say this CD is one of the strongest and well produced albums that I have heard in a long time. Sure it features a lot of new artists, but I think that they all can stand on their own. This is one CD, the reggae music lover should not be without. Get your copy and add it to your collection, you won't be disappointed.
