Best compilation album this year!.......2007-07-11
Wipe Me Down is an appropriate name for the first single -.......2007-05-23
Trill Entertainment was a label started by UGK's Pimp C. As one-half of one of the greatest hip-hop groups of all time, one would think that the Pimp would have a better ear for talent; I guess one can't be blessed in every aspect of life, and talent scouting is not one of the Pimp's better aspects. Most of the emcees signed to the label are either mind-numbingly mediocre or the definition of wack.
3 Deep would be the most appropriate for the latter title, because both tracks this 'talent' appears on have no redeeming qualities. I believe 3 Deep is a group based on their name, but if they are, I can't distinguish one member from the next; there is absolutely no difference in cadence, flow, or tone if there really is more than one artist appearing on these tracks. In fact, Watch My Shoes is possibly the most asinine boast I've ever heard in hip-hop; the production, which sounds like hyphy meets snap, is equally grating. Do It Stick It is a bit better on the production tip, but nothing will stay in your head after listening to it, even the hook.
On the other end of the spectrum, while still painfully average, both Boosie and Webbie are slowly, but gradually improving. Boosie's voice is abit more tolerable on this release, most likely thanks to how little of it we have to hear compared to Bad Azz; Webbie is slowly becoming an enjoyable emcee. While Webbie gets no solo tracks on this album, he manages to outshine most of his Fam, although Boosie does tend to hold his own when it comes to this type of thing; Boosie's solo track, Thug Me Like That, is actually quite decent too.
Foxx maybe the best rapper in the entire Trill Fam; not a huge claim, but a claim, nonetheless. He's got an intoxicating flow, and decent enough lyrics; he sounds a bit more seasoned than the majority of his compadres, whether he really is or not. Wipe Me Down, one of the better tracks on the album, shows that the young emcee has talent. Big Head is also a rapper with a lot of potential; while he doesn't show it on a lot of the collaborations, his solo track, Politician Networkin', in another one of the hotter tracks on the album, and this time for more than just the beat; Head actually provides some nice bars.
Soulja Boy, Lil Phat, and Shell all appear on Materialistic *****, and that track just sucks. That's all there is to really say about it. Seeing as this is the only cut any of those three find themselves on in this album, it's dumbfounding how it made the final cut; it's probably the worst track on the album next to Watch My Shoes.
The majority of this album is dominated by the three biggest acts on the label, Webbie, Boosie, and the upcoming Foxx; Big Head also gets his fair share of appearances. None of these guys can be considered dope emcees, at least not at this point in their careers, but they're all competenent enough. The beats are pretty hot on most tracks, and simply stupid when they tend to fail. With that being said, I guess it's worth checking out as a presentation of what Trill has to offer; at the same time, don't expect much if it doesn't have Pimp or Bun's name on it, and I can't guarantee this will have any lasting value at all.

Album Description
Blondie defies definition. The legendary band is a little bit punk, a little bit reggae, a little bit rock, a little bit new wave, a little bit pop, a little bit hip-hop and a lot of downtown attitude. Already gold in Europe, Blondie: Greatest Hits--Sound & Vision was released March 7 by Capitol/EMI, one week before the band's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. The new CD/DVD package contains 20 audio tracks and 16 video clips, including the band's biggest hits and previously unreleased remixes. "Rapture Riders"--a mash-up of the band's "Rapture" with the Doors' "Riders on the Storm"--and its accompanying UK music video make their release debut on the new collection. Blondie's influence on today's artists is undeniable. Debbie Harry and Blondie have been a major influence on superstars like Madonna, Garbage's Shirley Manson, and R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe, among many others. They were one of the first groups to emerge from New York's new wave/punk renaissance with an album (1976's Blondie); the first to chart a #1 single, a revolutionaryblend of punk and disco ("Heart of Glass"); and the first to top the charts with both a rap song (1981's "Rapture") and a reggae tune ("The Tide Is High"). And now Blondie have added to their legacy by being selected for induction in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Sex Pistols, and Miles Davis, as one of two first-time nominees (Davis is the other). "This is a tremendous honor for us," said the band's lead vocalist Deborah Harry, who is celebrating Blondie's 30th anniversary this year. "We're proud to take our place alongside some of our own idols."Customer Reviews:
Fantastic, but far from perfect..........2007-06-14
Sound & Vision is much better than The Best of Blondie, with vastly improved sound quality and a bigger selection of songs. The only songs that The Best of Blondie contains that this collection does not are "(I'm Always Touched By Your) Presence, Dear" and the original version of "In the Flesh"--the version of the latter on Sound & Vision is an awful remix with brand new vocals by Debbie Harry, and it sounds NOTHING like the original. Sound & Vision is certainly preferable to The Best of Blondie, though, no matter how you look at it.
However, when compared to the 2002 Greatest Hits CD, Sound & Vision doesn't fair quite as well, not taking into account the bonus DVD with music videos. Greatest Hits has nearly every song from this collection--it does NOT include "Good Boys" or "End To End" from The Curse of Blondie, released in 2004, nor the "Rapture Riders" mash-up, but makes up for it with the inclusion of "(I'm Always Touched By Your) Presence, Dear" and "X Offender", two of Blondie's best songs. It also includes the original version of "In the Flesh" in lieu of the pointless remix. Those factors alone, along with the fact that Greatest Hits is quite a bit cheaper than this collection, make Greatest Hits worth getting instead of Sound & Vision.
So, how does Sound & Vision hold up on its own? It is a decent collection of Blondie's most popular songs, but they are mostly radio edits and not the full album versions. They even dared to chop off the openings of "Heart of Glass", Atomic" and "The Tide is High"! Another huge mistake: The incredibly charming French portion of "Sunday Girl" has been removed and substituted by an English translation that the producers must have forced Debbie Harry to record as a backup. The remix included for "Good Boys" is decent, and much MUCH better than the remix for "In the Flesh", but the album version is still the best. The remastering is swell, but in some cases I prefer the remasters of the original album versions (for example, "Union City Blue").
If you're a diehard Blondie fan like me, you will want Sound & Vision for the bonus DVD, which includes some of Blondie's best music videos. These are not traditional music videos because they were all produced before MTV, but rather they are performance videos of the band lip-synching to the studio versions of the songs. My personal favorite of the videos is "Rapture", but "Heart of Glass", "Denis", "Hanging on the Telephone", "Dreaming" and "The Hardest Part" are favorites as well. The worst of them by far is "The Tide of High"--love the song, but the video is T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E.
Most casual listeners will not be concerned with the things I am nitpicking about here. But unless you must have the videos, you would be better off purchasing the 2002 Greatest Hits collection because of the cheaper price tag. Thankfully, I found this collection for $12 used, or else I would have bought Greatest Hits, too.
Blondie Greatest Hits (CD & DVD).......2007-03-10
One of The Best Blondie Greatest Hits.......2007-01-15
Once I had a band, and they were a gas........2007-01-11
On the plus side, you get three interesting "new" items. There's a previously unavailable mix of "Good Boys" (from "The Curse of Blondie" CD), a new mix of "In The Flesh" (which doesn't better the original) and an outrageous mash-up of The Doors Vs Blondie with "Rapture Riders" (and its accompanying video!). The interesting thing about the new "In The Flesh" is that you can imagine the new breed of Rock/pop goddesses like Gwen Stefani of Brittany Spears tackling it - and knowing they wouldn't have a peroxided molecule of the sass that Debbie Harry has.
Blondie was always about flash and glamour, which is what made their best albums ("Parallel Lines" and "Eat To The Beat") so charmingly eclectic and their best singles so earth shattering. They were the first "new-wave" band to score a number one with -- Fer crying out loud -- a disco song, and were the very first band to chart a hit rap song that mashed-up rap and pop. (It was nearly 6 years later that Run-DMC would share video space with the resurgent Aerosmith.) Even the lesser know singles are killer. "The Hardest Part" has got to be the fiercest Debbie Harry vocal, and the French/English version of "Denis" is a lost classic.
The DVD is a hoot. It is kind of striking to see these primitive MTV era bits from "Heart Of Glass" and "Rapture." It's worth it just to see the band in their young and hungry stages...hard to believe that the band that recorded the terrific "Maria" were in their 50s. All great archival material.
Minor quibble - single edits. But these were SMASH singles, and it just goes to show you that there is no shame in being a pop band, and there is also no reason a pop band can't have a major impact on popular culture. Thanks to this new CD/DVD set from Blondie, you can now join in with those who call the music of Debbie Harry and company a pleasure without using the word "guilty" as a preface. Although the 2002 "Greatest Hits" is probably a better CD for the casual listener, for us fans, this is absolutely worth the bucks.
Debbie Harry is the coolest woman in the history of everything........2006-11-23
I really recommend this to any fan of "new wave" or the whole New York Underground scene from the 1970's. One of the best Greatist Hits albums I have ever heard! Long live Blondie and I love Debbie Harry!!!!

Lest you think Jamie Foxx is simply capitalizing on his Oscar-winning turn in Ray, don't forget that Unpredictable is actually a follow-up (albeit 11 years later) to his 1994 debut, Peep This. In fact, Unpredictable even sounds like a slow jams album from the '90s; despite featuring guests like Snoop, Kanye West, and The Game, Foxx isn't trying to out- club Ciara or Amerie with a series of hip-hop-flavored tracks. Instead, he relies on getting his croon on with tried-and-true R&B balladry. Unpredictable actually gets rather predictable over the course of 15 songs, too many of which begin to meld into one another. But on the best songs, like the sublimely acoustic "Heaven" and his duet with Mary J Blige ("Love Changes"), Foxx reminds you that he has been singing just as long as he's been acting; this is no Jamie-Come-Lately. --Oliver WangCustomer Reviews:

A Hip-hop Hit with deep touches of Blues Music.......2006-03-18
Song structure breakdown:
1) Rap by Kanye West.
2) Singing (in blues style) by Jamie Foxx.
3) A very heavy but simple beat.
The lyrics of the rap segment describes/speaks of the problem in the relationship. The singing expresses the woes/disappointment. Jamie Foxx his singing is inspired by Ray Charles. The beats increases the intensity of the music.
This "fusion" is a very daring attempt from Kanye West that needs to be praised. The song is produced minimalist in nature. However, it is able to deliver a strong emotional message about a man's woes of a woman of the namesake.
Looking forward to more of such music from him. A master of hip-hop at his creative best.

Kanye and Jamie are Professors in the Music Era of 2day.......2006-02-06
This is my favorite song to date of 2005 alongside "Ordinary People" by John Legend, "Candy Shop" by 50 Cent, "Go" by Common, "Touch" by Omarion, need I say more?
This shows Jamie Foxx and Kanye were they heading thru they careers. I got mad love for 'em. This song features a sample from the Ray Soundtrack (the movie was fantastic), "I Got a Woman" (that's a bad song!!!) and it incls. well hip hop beats produced by Kanye. Wish I coulda co-produce the track with him, that would've been more exciting. What if I add horns to the top for this track. That is me playing, me arranging, me doing most the other stuff? MisterMaxxx, nice try. Try to stay cool. Your review was real ok. Try to dig deeper.

Foxx Amongst His Own.......2001-03-13
He tells of unfaithful wives, cannibal chiefs, the origins of certain black expressions, contemplates what would happen if only Liberace, Johnny Mathis and Sonny Liston survived WWIII and even relates a story of Moses, St. Peter and "J.C." playing a friendly game of golf. He tells one tale after another to an audience that is very hugely enjoying itself.
The title of the CD might fool you. Foxx's material is not explicit. It's more implicit and subtle, and this was the man's genius. Unlike today, a comedian couldn't just come out and "say it." He had to be crafty about it or face whatever would ensue, be it censorship, arrest, or some other consequence. Foxx was one of the masters of this type of craftiness. This is why, in my opinion, his stuff is infinitely more clever than most of the raw stuff that's out there today.
One of the other things that made Foxx great was his interplay with his audience. Behind the raspy voice, pinpoint timing and wonderfully bawdy humor, was a caring, sensitive man who was aware that, perhaps, his audience really needed to let go. Many times, you can hear him say, "Go on and laugh, honey" or "You can laugh out loud here, friends." Also, to his credit, in all the recordings I have of Foxx (and I have a few), he was never cruel with the people that came to see him, unlike so many comedians of today. This undercurrent of true sensitivity amidst all the laughs, at least to me, was what made Foxx a truly great comedian.
Foxx saw hard times when he was starting out in comedy, and I get the impression that he was sensitive to the fact that perhaps some of his audience might've been going through some hard times, as well. Even years after the material was initially recorded, whenever you let Redd Foxx take a spin on your turntable or in your CD player, be it in the form of Uncensored or any of his many other albums, you end up in a better mood. I'm sure his audience of the time felt the exact same way.
A CLASSIC.......2000-04-23

ASIN: B000NY18A4 Release Date: 2007-05-15 |
Album Description
John Foxx and electro DJ Louis Gordon release Sideways, their fifth album since meeting up just over 10 years ago. The album brings together sci-fi-themed electronic pop songs with trash psychedelia and film music to create the pair's most adventurous recordings to date. In fact, over 25 years after launching his solo career with the minimalist electro pop of Metamatic, Foxx has been enjoying a recent renaissance. In addition to the critically acclaimed From Trash, Foxx brought to life his Tiny Colour Movies album with a stunning performance at the Brighton Film Festival and continued his long-term Cathedral Oceans project with rare screenings at other UK film festivals. He also started work on various collaborative projects with Robin Guthrie (ex-Cocteau Twins) and the actor Vincent Gallo, which are due for release later in 2007. According to Foxx, Sideways explores his fascination with 'things that have all been considered at one time or another as trash - science fiction, TV, B-movies, synthesizers, psychedelia, pop music, comics - all the stuff I love!'Customer Reviews:
I love Mr Foxx for his uniqueness, but..........2007-06-25
The only tracks that grab my attention fully are Xray Vision and Use My Voice, otherwise it was rather uneventful to my ears.
The main reason I gave it 3 stars than 2 was the full CD that is an interview with Mr Foxx. I love to listen to him explain in very sober terms about his influence and execution of his art. Otherwise one can get lost in his imagery lyrics and way-out there definitions of the world around him, both in song and on the album cover (strange verbosity to say the least).
I look forward to trying out his other offerings as soon as my paycheck allows.
