It's been a long ten years since Take That disbanded. Their recent reformation and world tour offered overwhelming evidence that, far from being forgotten, the post-Robbie quartet can still command hysterical amounts of goodwill and adoration. Beautiful World illustrates why this is so. Written in conjunction with songwriter/producer John Shanks (Ashlee Simpson, Anastacia, Alanis Morissette), the album is crammed full with the songwriting magic that made their rise to fame so meteoric in the first place. Far from being an exercise in nostalgia, the project moves the band in a slightly new direction. The four come across as more mature, more democratic (all members share songwriting credits on the album, rather than just Barlow), and even more adept at making epic pop that somehow avoids the cheese factor. Lead single "Patience" is a perfect example of how powerful and accessible their songs can be. It'd be a good contender for the album's peak moment if the rest of the tracks weren't so damn good too. With traditional Take That style songs (the immediately likeable "Reach Out", the brimming "Like I Never Loved You At All"), nicely punctuated up by incongruous outings like Jason Orange's folkish "Wooden Boat" and Mark's upbeat, Beatles-esque "Shine", Beautiful World sets a whole new standard for a band previously known more for their singles than their long-players.--Danny McKenna

All I cansayabout this album is that Take That has changed alot. It more mature and for all earlyer Take That- fans, this is not for you. But on my conpinion i think the earlyer Take That was a bit nerdie.

The greatest boy band of our time Take That have returned with a big bang.

Beautiful World is That's 4th studio recorded album, not counting the compilations. It's a nice collection of mellowed-down ballads along with some foot-stompers and crowd-pleasers.

The Manchester boys have grown up. It's been 10 years since the time Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald, and Jason Orange announced that they were parting ways -Robbie Williams ditched the band months earlier and ended up being the most successful of them all, he does not return to the lineup this time around (it's his loss really). The overall feel and sound of World reflects the boys' maturity and self assurance. It also symbolizes the first time the boys share songwriting duties: Gary Barlow isn't the sole writer, Mark, Howard, and Jason all are credited; Jason debuts as a lead singer on the fantastic album closer Wooden Boat.

The album opens up with the breathtaking Reach Out, a beautiful ballad and future single, that reminds us why we loved Take That in the first place. The UK Number 1 singles Patience and Shine are simply awesome, the latter written and sung with conviction by Mark is probably one of the best pop songs I've heard in a long time, while the former is sung by Gary with such an infectious passion; Patience is technically Gary's first hit single in about a decade. Mark's Shine is the most upbeat song on the album with a beat that is similar to ELO's Mr. Blue Sky, with Beatlesque harmonies and an incredible chorus; the music video to Shine includes references to The Beatles' Your Mother Should Know video. Howard's radio friendly self-reflective Mancunian Way, a potential single, is a cool song that will eventually grow on you after a couple of listens, while the feel-good title track, Beautiful World, features one of the best harmonies the boys have ever produced. Gary's lovely ballads Ain't No Sense In Love, another potential single, Like I Never Loved You At All, and the first group effort I'd Wait For Life produce a nostalgic sense of how great it was being a fan of Take That in the 90's. Mark's What You Believe In is an elusive bluesy pop-rock number. Finally, Jason Orange's breakthrough Wooden Boat is a country influenced acoustic number (Jason actually has learned to play guitar and write songs over the 10 years that passed), and turns out to be one of the highlights on World. There's also a bonus track that appears shorty after Boat fades out titled Butterfly, a sweet catchy ballad written by Gary.

Beautiful World might not be as great as Everything Changes or Nobody Else, and Take That might not be as young and exciting as they were once. The album does lack the typical Take That dance and upbeat tracks along with the piano-driven ballads that made past efforts much more balanced. However, their return with this album deserves a very warm welcome. I'm sure the fans will agree!

So I will end by saying: Take That, welcome back...and hopefully, for good this time!

This come-back release for Take That is absolutely superb. You would never have guessed that they were ever gone from the music scene for the past few years. The tunes are right on with today's hits yet it retains the sound that made the group a hit in the past. You would never have guessed that Robbie Williams is no longer a part of the ensemble. Take That is positively right on.

What you see is rarely what you get with Jimmy Buffett. While he may contend that he is the king of slackers, a modern day Dean Martin whipping up fizzy rum drinks under the palm trees in a silk Hawaiian shirt, this best-selling author and raconteur is actually the thinking man's party animal. His deceptively breezy lyrics and lazy charm belie a shrewd social commentator and a man not at peace with his world or his own mortality--taking well-aimed potshots at everything from cell phone culture to ancient Greek history to the threat of terrorism, as on the sharply ironic "Party at the End of the World." But having said that, all the unrest exhibited in these 14 songs makes for a far more interesting album than he's made in over two decades. Reflective, unstinting, and often nostalgic, the musician changes the tempo and the subject matter, swapping his usual languid island exhortations of alcohol and brief bikini tops for the fascinating emotional ambiguity of "Whoop De Doo," or the simple charm of "Nothing but a Breeze," which seems so autobiographical it's hard to believe that Buffett didn't write it. Not My Favorite..........2007-07-16

...But this compilation passes the Buffett Fan Test. It is a good mix of new and old. I am waiting for the singer-songwriter to fully come back to some of his best works. Some of Buffett's lesser known albums are far better than this and I hope he soon returns to that style. It seems like a journey that started with Barometer Soup and just hasn't come back home yet. Still, for the true fan, it does deliver. Not my favortire, but a worthy addition to a complete collection.

Best Buffett CD in a Decade!!.......2007-06-29

After the commercially successful (but disappointing to me) "License To Chill" I was afraid Jimmy may continue down the "generic, glossed up country" road. I wasn't all that excited about this CD coming out due to that reasaon but to my surprise he has released his best and most consistent CD since "Banana Wind". Alot of good stuff on here including some excellent cover tunes ("Weather With You", "Nothing But a Breeze", "Whoop De Do"). "Bama Breeze" has a country feel to it but the CD never crosses into the "mainstream Nashville" sound that "License" did. Even my wife who isn't a Buffett fan loves "Weather With You". Excellent cover of the Crowded House tune. If you are like me and didn't care much for "License To Chill" give this one a chance. Yeah it's not "A1A" or "Changes In Latitude" or "Havana Daydreamin'" (what I consider Buffett's holy trinity) but it's a solid enjoyable CD.

A great CD that Buffett fans will enjoy.......2007-05-17

This is another excellent CD by Jimmy Buffett. The CD starts with a great song, "Bama Breeze" and rolls right along with great songs such as "Take the Weather with You" and "Party at the End of the World." A really interesting song is "Whoop De Doo" that features Mark Knopfler on guitar and every song will have you singing along and wishing you were somewhere in the Caribbean or on a beach somewhere away from the daily grind.

One song, "Breathe in, Breathe out, Move on" is a insightful song about Hurricane Katrina. The lyrics are great and really struck a chord when I listened to it the first time.

This CD is definitely worth adding to anyone's collection!

Just another one of Buffett's great albums! It's a bit different than Cheeseburger in Paradise or Fins but it's good just the same! If you like Jimmy than you'll like this!

After listening to the album once and then attending his Frisco concert, I have really grown to like this album immensely. I really like Take the Weather With You and Party at the End of the World. I think we will hear these two songs for many years to come.

Put together by Abba's own Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, Mamma Mia! manages to cram over 20 of the Swedish supergroup's songs into a threadbare plot. It goes a little like this: Young Sophie is getting married and she's trying to identify which of three men is her father. That's about it. Wisely, the musical doesn't mess around with the songs, save for the insertion of some dialogue or for having some of them performed by a man (it works amazingly well). Abba fans will jump on this import of the London production, but traditional fans of musical theater should consider it as well. After all, Andersson and Ulvaeus's songs have always felt as if they were more than isolated pop gems and actually belonged to a longer narrative. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

This is a grand list of songs from the original musical when it was first introduced in England. The songs from ABBA are very recognizable even if you haven't seen the show. But, making a trip to NY to see the Broadway production is a plus. ENJOY!

Why do labels do this with greatest hits CDs?..........2007-07-15

Always we get a CD with a couple of hits not included, just so they can slap a couple of crappy remixes of songs that are already included on the album. Two important songs are missing here: "Bring on the Night" and "Synchronicity II", all because of the last two songs. It's a bit of a rip-off to some of us.

was Sting) and I was out dancing. It was good music to dance to.

This really is a five star singles collection. Only one minor hit is missing ("Synchronicity II") and the gawdawful Puffy mix of "Roxanne" is - one can only hope - been wiped from the face of the Earth. But having seen the band reunite on the 2007 Grammys, and how "Roxanne" still sounds amazing for a 30 year old song, "Every Breath You Take: The Classics" is a prefect reminder of just how much The Police commercialized "Punk rock" and made brilliant pop at the same time.

I remember buying "Outlandos D'amour" in the fall of 1978, right before starting college. I was just beginning to get into punk/new wave and "Roxanne" was such a giddy single that I had to have the album. I was enthused but also surprised. While the band played with punky brashness, there was stuff here that was way too sophisticated for punk. The tricky drumming of Stewart Copeland was a dead giveaway...The Police were more than those peroxided heads on the album cover.

When "Regatta DeBlanc" arrived, the aggressive "Message In A Bottle" served notice. Sting was a charismatic singer that could rock with the best of them, and Andy Summers' playing was really beginning to show that he was limitlessly inventive. The spacey reggae of "Walking On The Moon" pushed their experimentation to a new peak. While "Message" should have been the breakthrough single The Police deserved after "Roxanne," radio resistance to this new kind of new wave music forced the band to wait until the third album.

"De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" changed that. Irresistibly catchy, it spotlighted Sting's ability to write crafty pop songs. Then the enigmatic and literate "Don't Stand So Close To Me" went top ten, forcing even the staunchest critics to accept "Zenyatta Mondatta" and The Police. After all, not every rock band could quote Nabokov and top the charts with it. By now, the band had also become MTV darlings and Sting a heart-throb, an image he had no problem riding to success but still took issue with on the creative level. He wanted to make sure that The Police were regarded more as musical artists than video vixens with goofy song clips.

Success emboldened Sting and The Police experimented heavily on "Ghost In The Machine." Gone were the pretty boy cover pictures and pseudo-Eurospeak titles. The stuttering time-signature of the title track and the Pink Floyd meets the Beach Boys of "Invisible Sun" were unlike anything The Police had recorded before. Still, it was the classic pop sounding "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" that was, well, magic. The mix of progressive and pop set the stage for The Police's finest hour.

If "Every Little Thing..." sounded like classic pop, "Every Breath You Take" sounded timeless. As everyone knows, the deceptively paranoid single cross-circuited and insta-catchy melody with lyrics that sounded like a pledge of devotion only to be undermined by the totally obsessive nature of the protagonist. The nature of the album "Synchronicity" was to allow each member to add his part as he saw fit (even though Sting was obviously the de facto leader by now). it led to the stripped down sound of "King Of Pain" and "Wrapped Around Your Finger."

But that was as far as the band could travel together. Sting's ambitions (or ego, depending on your point of view) had moved past Copeland and Stewart's. The worldwide success of "Synchronicity" and the tour put the band on a hiatus that they never really called off. That leaves the sole new items here the pointless electronic remake of "Don't Stand So Close To Me" (from the "The Singles" collection) and a remix of "Message In A Bottle" that is all but indistinguishable from the original. "Every Breath You Take: The Classics" does allow for both versions of "Don't Stand So Close To Me," which makes that earlier collection obsolete.

However, the recently reissued Police library has at least two classic albums in it (in my opinion, "Synchronicity" and "Zenyatta Mondatta"), that rate picking up a few of the individual albums for their key tracks. (For instance, it is again my opinion, but both of the "new" tracks here could have easily been dumped for the likes of "So Lonely," "Driven To Tears" or "Synchronicity II.") Still, as a collection of memorable radio and groundbreaking music, the evolution of The Police from punky white reggae to musical sophisticates makes this CD a must have if you don't want to go beyond the hits.

A Great Collection To Have.......2006-04-06

It just gets me everytime when I read reviews written by "critics" that are really too up their own ar*es to actually admit that pop music from five guys that dance can actually be good.

After reading the credits carefully, one would actually realize that Gary Barlow writes alot of the lyrics and co-produces many of the tracks. Ok, so there are loads of other musicians that don't write 100% of their music themselves - Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, The Monkeys - are just some of them. But do these same "critics" discredit them for talent? No.

I just hope this double-standard stops once and for all. Music is music. And if you're too ashamed of admitting to liking a 'boyband', then just keep quiet, and don't bother writing reviews about "how awful" they are. This is good pop music and that's that.

i like take thats music and even though they are no longer around i occasionally listen to my mums take that album and find that i do like their music. i also watched the take that documentary and found out that they are not as sweet and innocent as everyone may have thought they were during the time they were around cos they done some quite rude and naughty stuff!

Not to be confused with the collection Songs Inspired by the Chronicles of Narnia, this album is Harry Gregson-Williams's instrumental score for the movie. Marking the composer's third collaboration with director Andrew Adamson (after both Shrek flicks), this score also is one of the more mature offerings from Gregson-Williams, best known for his work on family films. The music is lush and assured, if a bit predictable. Indeed, it fits squarely in the current style popular for big epics--even using (on a few tracks) the vocals of Lisbeth Scott, which fall halfway between those of Enya and the Cocteau Twins' Liz Fraser (both of whom, uncoincidentally, appeared on the Lords of the Rings soundtracks). The CD concludes with four songs, with Gregson-Williams cowriting Scott's "Where." On "Can't Take It In," Imogen Heap's vocal acrobatics eerily recall those of the Cranberries' Dolores O'Riordan, while Alanis Morissette's "Wunderkind" is an inspirational, almost girl-powerish track written from the point of view of the movie's Lucy. But the best of these songs is "Winter Light" by Tim Finn, four minutes of understated, piano-driven melancholia. Look for it tucked near the very end of the CD. This is one of the best soundtrack I've ever listened to.From the serene "Lucy Meets Mr.Tumnus"to the soaring theme found in many of the tracks,Harry-Greggson Williams does a masterful job at creating a magical Narnia.I listened to this nonstop when I first got it,and I still listen to it more than any other soundtrack.
The four(three really,because Winter Light is utterly detestable)songs at the end are reason enough to buy this CD."I Can't Take It In" is brilliant with Imogen Heap's incredible talent."Wunderkind" is so artful and expertly written,it has become one of my favorite songs.
So this soundtrack meets all the requirements for a great soundtrack-great theme,amazing creativity,and stellar songs.

This book has eight of the songs from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Some of the songs, such as Evacuating London and Father Christmas, include some fairly advanced musical notation. Evacuating London, Lucy Meets Mr. Tumnus, A Narnia Lullaby and Father Christmas do not include guitar notation. However, this is authentic Narnia music, as composed by Harry Gregson-Williams. The first eight pages consist of colored pictures from the movie. The only thing that would make this music book even better would be inclusion of The Battle, which we are still looking for.

So much for the 'emo' tag this is a damn good CD.

Powerful music well put together with lyrics that actually mean something. I wasnt too keen on getting this but after the first listen I realised that this was well worth the risk. You always know a good band when the lyrics stick in your mind and you find yourself singing along when you play it again.

If you have not heard Fall Out Boy before or you have but are not sure where to start, this is proably the best place to do so.

I think this is definately their best album! I own all their albums and didn't really care for "From Under the Cork Tree", but this one is amazing! All the songs are upbeat and make you dance. I never have really liked this genre, but I have really enjoyed their music. I would recommend this album as well as their new one "Infinity on High". It's good stuff!

The contrivance level is high on this debut by an R&B singer named for her out-of-bottle hair color. La Face Records' latest female discovery is positioned midway between mainstream hip-hop soul and poor imitations of Kelis-style anger. Producer-writer She'kspere brings out his trademark machine beats for "There You Go," a pale copy of "You Oughta Know"; still, that single's more artful than "Split Personality," which clumsily attempts to acknowledge three-dimensional human reality but really sounds like a fit of whining until Pink unleashes the inevitable melisma over the song's coda. Elsewhere, she makes nice on standard-issue ballads ("Stop Falling") and lite-reggae proclamations of love ("Private Show"). "I just wanna make you feel things," Pink sings at one point. This album builds on lessons learned from Pink's first release "Misunderstood". It has some more polish and finese, but still maintains that hard edged "I'm gonna tell it like it is" style that makes Pink, Pink. I really love her bold confidence and pure scrappy attitude. She is a good performer and has a strong sultry voice. I am collecting her work in reverse order starting with "Try This" and finding the early albums great glimpses of what was to come later in her career. She is a strong person and will be around for a long time.

i heard all the stuff that pink has done since lady marmalade and i was curious about this album.
First of all, i was prepared for hear some r&b stuff but i was really suprised with this album.
I'm not a r&b fan, i'm a pop fan but pink makes something special with this rythms... she demostrates once more that she rocks for real!

I purchased Pink's later three albums before I picked this one up. I really like Try This and I'm Not Dead, both are really solid albums and show how Pink has matured as an artist. Can't Take Me Home is not a bad album just doesn't compare well with the later work.

I really dragged me feet on getting this disc because I have a real pet peeve about music artists who debut singing a particular genre of music then switch up on their sophomore releases saying "THIS IS THE REAL ME - THE LABEL MADE ME SING THAT OTHER STUFF". I was disgusted by Pink's switcheroo but remained curious enough about her debut cd that I finally decided to buy it.

After a few listens, I am decidedly underwhelmed by the disc mainly because Pink's voice is unrecognizable on most tracks and also to me there are no real stand out tracks. The only tracks I enjoyed listening to are:

HELL WIT YA - love her quick almost talking vocals a la Beyonce

MOST GIRLS - although the lyrics are monotonous, Pink sounds fantastic along with the interesting beats

LET ME LET YOU KNOW - beautiful ballad

LOVE IS SUCH A CRAZY THING - honestly, the music production & background harmonies are more interesting than Pink's solo vocals

STOP FALLING - very pretty ballad that showcases her voice

I really wouldn't recommend this disc because it's pretty generic "hip pop" with no truly standout songs unless you're really curious about Pink's debut to the music world (and can get the disc real cheap).

It's been a long ten years since Take That disbanded. Their recent reformation and world tour offered overwhelming evidence that, far from being forgotten, the post-Robbie quartet can still command hysterical amounts of goodwill and adoration. Great Music.......2007-07-14

I saw them perform for Princess Diana's concert. I really didn't know who they were until I checked out some of their other music on Amazon. I recognized them almost at once. This is a wonderful offering, Patience caught my ear, and I had to hear more. I'm glad I bought the CD, and have downloaded older tracks as well. Well worth buying, I would recommend this to anyone. I may be wrong, but I felt the last few tracks were influenced by some of the Beatles music, and maybe a little of the Bee Gee's. ENJOY!

I was a huge fan of Take That way back when I was a teen.......I even followed Gary Barlow's career when the group separated. Gary's voice is just one of the sweetest, greatest voices you can ever come across. It just makes you want to have him singing in your ear. I'm much older now so when I heard that Take That was getting back together it not only made my day but my whole year! The album is great, some songs better than the others as in almost every record any artist puts out. It's great to see all the members stand out, not just Gary in the spotlight. So if you liked Take That 12 years ago like when you heard "Back for good" for the first time, you'll sure enjoy this album as well.

Move aside Westlife, Justin Timberlake, and Backstreet Boys.

The greatest boy band of our time Take That have returned with a big bang.

Beautiful World is That's 4th studio recorded album, not counting the compilations. It's a nice collection of mellowed-down ballads along with some foot-stompers and crowd-pleasers.

The Manchester boys have grown up. It's been 10 years since the time Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald, and Jason Orange announced that they were parting ways -Robbie Williams ditched the band months earlier and ended up being the most successful of them all, he does not return to the lineup this time around (it's his loss really). The overall feel and sound of World reflects the boys' maturity and self assurance. It also symbolizes the first time the boys share songwriting duties: Gary Barlow isn't the sole writer, Mark, Howard, and Jason all are credited; Jason debuts as a lead singer on the fantastic album closer Wooden Boat.

The album opens up with the breathtaking Reach Out, a beautiful ballad and future single, that reminds us why we loved Take That in the first place. The UK Number 1 singles Patience and Shine are simply awesome, the latter written and sung with conviction by Mark is probably one of the best pop songs I've heard in a long time, while the former is sung by Gary with such an infectious passion; Patience is technically Gary's first hit single in about a decade. Mark's Shine is the most upbeat song on the album with a beat that is similar to ELO's Mr. Blue Sky, with Beatlesque harmonies and an incredible chorus; the music video to Shine includes references to The Beatles' Your Mother Should Know video. Howard's radio friendly self-reflective Mancunian Way, a potential single, is a cool song that will eventually grow on you after a couple of listens. Gary's lovely ballad Ain't No Sense In Love, another potential single, and the first group effort I'd Wait For Life produce a nostalgic sense of how great it was being a fan of Take That in the 90's. Mark's What You Believe In is an elusive bluesy pop-rock number. Finally, Jason Orange's breakthrough Wooden Boat is a country influenced acoustic number (Jason actually has learned to play guitar and write songs over the 10 years that passed), and turns out to be one of the highlights on World. There's also a bonus track that appears shorty after Boat fades out titled Butterfly, a sweet catchy ballad written by Gary.

Beautiful World might not be as great as Everything Changes or Nobody Else, and Take That might not be as young and exciting as they were once. The album does lack the typical Take That dance and upbeat tracks along with the piano-driven ballads that made past efforts much more balanced. However, their return with this album deserves a very warm welcome. I'm sure the fans will agree!

So I will end by saying: Take That, welcome back...and hopefully, for good this time!

Take That all grown up!.......2007-03-09

After a hugely successful TV documentary, and an even more successful tour last year, Take That return (minus their most famous alumnus) with their first album in 10 years.

"Beautiful world" sees them ditching the youthful pop sound of their past, in favour of a more adult rock/pop format, resulting in the strongest album of their career. All four guys pitch in lyrically and vocally. The album has already topped the UK album charts and sold over 1.2 million in the UK.

Opening is the sunny, upbeat "Reach out" with tight 60s sounding harmonies a-la Beach Boys, Beatles and Simon & Garfunkel (something showcased throughout this CD) and a catchy sound. In a similar vein is the floaty titletrack "Beautiful world".

Lead off single (and UK #1) "Patience" is a brilliant Beatles-like mid tempo charmer with a towering feel. With an even stronger Beatles feel is the upbeat "Shine", currently #1 in the UK. Need I mention the excellent harmonies?

A real surprise comes in the folk ballad "Wooden boat" with brilliant lyrics. The soaring piano ballad "I'd wait for life" is a real winner (great instrument build up towards the end). However, the melancholic "What you believe in" has got to be the best Take That ballad ever. Awesome!!

Take That are back, and all grown up!
