The Innocence Mission have, over the course of a decade, created a half dozen albums which celebrate small pleasures, fragile details and the wistful edges of life. As the title suggests, Now the Day Is Over offers a set of lullabies. The dozen covers and one original were not all written as bedtime reveries, but it's a testament to the graceful nuances Don and Karen Peris that such a familiar song as "What A Wonderful World" can bring out the twinkling stars of nighttime with heartfelt purity. Free of embellishments, either internal or studio created, Karen's vocals are at once magical and direct. The trio has done much more than to simply streamline or slow down these selections, they've found the core of each number and built around it only that which is necessary. -- David Greenberger
Customer Reviews:
Innocence Mission is an appropriate name.......2007-06-02
Not the worst cd I have and certainly not offensive. However, lacks depth, character, and content. Could be good for the kids. Bought it because I fell in love with a track I heard on Radio Paradise. Overall I could have spent the money in other ways.
Sickenly too sweet.......2007-05-12
I am new to the Innocence Mission. We have a one year old baby, so a friend gave us this CD as a gift. For me, Karen Peris's voice has the "nails across the blackboard" effect on me. She has no range and her voice is cloying. I am not expecting rock 'n roll or anything like that, but I just cannot find anything attractive in her voice. She absolutely "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," a classic and a song that I want to associate with my relatively unspoiled childhood. Oh well, different strokes for different folks.
absolutely love this album.......2007-01-12
I play this album as part of my daughter's bedtime routine. I absolutely LOVE it. Has such a beautiful calmness to it. And as I sit their rocking with my daughter before I put her in her crib, it often brings both smiles to my face and tears to my eyes.
I Love You, Innocence Mission........2007-01-04
In the winter of '89-'90, I picked up The Innocence Mission's eponymous debut on cassette one evening in a mall in Muncie. During my solitary rural Indiana backroads return to Taylor Univ., I was introduced to the delightfully solid intangibility of these troubadours of Heart, Soul, and Mind. I wanted Don and Karen Peris to mother and father me, or to marry Karen, or to be a brother or sister of one, to experience in my life the meaningful connections that in song resonated on and strong without dwindling into the inevitable nihilism that so much of art does nowadays. (Soon realized they were Catholic Universalists or something like that.)Fan for life.
And so, I kept up with their oeuvre. Enjoying the experimental phases of beauty along with the return to simple folk beauty. "Bright as Yellow", on "Glow", piqued the world's interest on the "Empire Records" soundtrack. They toured at least a little with Lilith Fair one year. I found later they've done a blatantly spiritual album "Christ Is My Hope", and that Don (genius of guitar understatement/suggestion) has a couple of his own albums out. I still need to get those 3.
Anyway, the idea of a lullaby album from The Innocence Mission is so perfectly obvious that I never expected it. I mean, she sang songs to her "Someday Coming Child" (on "Umbrella") years before she birthed!
It is as perfect as it could be. Minimal in performance, maximal in effect. (With 3 little boys, I'm a connoisseur of artfully-lulling lullaby albums. Get the Disney Lullaby Album too--no, really--Greg Diakun and Fred Mollin create real art right under DisneyCorp's nose.)
Finally, Karen can sing me to sleep--and my family too.
works beautifully.......2006-10-18
I am a mother of twins and this CD was given to us as a gift. My babies fell asleep to this time after time and it was pleasant listening for both mom and dad. I plan on giving this as a gift to all my new parent friends.

Very good show which I hadn't heard of..........2007-05-13
I was very into theatre in high school and college and thought I was up on most musicals, but had never heard of this show until recently. It's comprised of three short stories which were adapted into the musical format. The first two stories are tied together very well, although the last seems tacked on. But the songs are catchy and it's fairly easy to figure out what's happening simply by listening to the songs. There are two songs which are tied for my favoritism: "It's a Fish" from Adam and Eve and "You Are Not Real" from Passionella. Check it out.
THE APPLE TREE (1966 ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST).......2007-04-10
IT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. I WENT TO THE REVIVAL OF THE APPLE TREE ON BROADWAY IN NEW YORK CITY AND LOVED THE SCORE BUT THERE WASN'T A SOUNDTRACK AVAILABLE SO I PURCHASED THE ORIGINAL VERSION AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!
I still remember these songs after 40 years.......2006-11-05
I saw this show on the stage when it first ran, and have never forgotten it. The key to a good Broadway show is this question: Are you humming the songs when you leave the theatre? In the case of The Apple Tree, the answer is a resounding "Yes." I have been waiting 40 years for this show to be revived, and I have tickets for the revival opening in December at the Roundabout. I hope not to be disappointed, for the trio of Barbara Harris, a very young Alan Alda, and the late Larry Blyden were terrific. The three-part concept can be jarring because just when you're getting into the story, it ends -- but just enjoy the kind of songs they just don't write anymore.
Really 2.5.......2006-07-25
SO this is another show thats actually three one acts. The first "The Diary of Adam and Eve" is the best by far. It has really cute songs and nice plot. Thats the only reason I rounded this up from 2.5 to 3 stars. The rest of the show is nothing great. "Lady and Tiger" is short and boring. And "Passionella" is exactly what it sounds like, a knock off of Cinderella. But hey, its a good show for collectors and "The Diary of Adam and Eve" is nice. Favorite Song: "Its A Fish"
Boring material that you forget very easily.......2006-06-29
According to some reviews, this musical was supposed to be very good and I bought it. Unfortunately, I was quite dissapointed. It's composed of three different tales, the first one referring to the Adam & Eve biblical story. The lyrics here are very silly and tedious. The second tale, "The Lady or the Tiger?" contains songs that are simply awful, probably the worst ever written for a Broadway show. The third story, "Passionella", contains music that does nothing to make things better. The album contains a good informative booklet in English, German, French & Italian (as Sony uses to do)which says that Time magazine defined this show as "three moldy figs". I entirely agree. I would recommend this musical to those suffering from insomnia: it will put them to sleep right away.

Another opinion.......2006-06-14
I absolutely love Deva Premal's voice and CDs. This was a huge disappointment for me. I don't like almost everything on this CD. There's nothing remarkable about Miten's voice, even though it's certainly nice to listen to. His lyrics are banal. Sweet and heartfelt, but hackneyed.
There's nothing really bad about the music, but most of it is Miten by himself (the ones with Deva are far better, to my ear), and I honestly can't find anything to recommend it.
I only gave it two stars for the few songs that are predominantly Deva's voice.
As much as I am dissing this CD I wouldn't hesitate to recommend "Love is Space." So, if you're expecting something along those lines, don't get this as it's totally different.
The most beautiful CD to celebrate committed partnerships!.......2006-05-20
My girlfriend introduced this cd to me, and I have to say, I'm almost as much in love with this music as I am with her :) !!! It's a 'must have' for any couples who are truly committed to growing healthy partnerships of love. It celebrates the beauty that is at the heart of each one of us and gives such wonderful reverential acknowledgment to the divinity in all.
We've already decided that this will be the music we will choose for our wedding as we shared our first dance to the magnificent sentiments expressed in song by Miten and Deva Premal.
You won't be disappointed!!!!

This is a CD made with love. Seriously, you can smell love. What does love smell like? I don't know. So stop asking. I honestly don't see how they can do it. Its magic. When I listen to this CD I feel like I am being held. I am not a lonely person. Believe me when I tell you, I am not. OK. Maybe sometimes.

Buy it, you won't be sorry.......2007-06-27
Love this CD. You can play it all the way through, but I'd recommend fast-forwarding after the last song because there is another song hidden.
Can't really say the band is innovative but if you like hardcore/screamo/whatevercore pick this up. Keyboards are taking over the scene and you'll find a lot of bands going this route.
Pretty Awesome.......2007-03-08
I listened to only a couple of GDD's songs on the internet, and I thought they were amazing. I had to have the cd right away, so I ordered it, and haven't stop listening to it since I got it. Great screaming, and instrument parts are very well mixed. I recommend cranking up the bass to get the feel of all the raging double bass drum.
Some okay scene-music i ended up really likeing........2007-03-04
I found out about 'Drop Dead, Gorgous' from one of my friends on myspace. The song of theirs called "Daniel, wheres the boat?" was her current song at the time, and it sounded strangly interesting to me.
No one might even understand this but me, but the singer sounded to me like a little kid who was sincerly angry, and screamed like a baby crying its head off. Regardless of how comical that might sound, it didnt totally turn me off. Something about it just made me interested. Another thing that it reminded me of is that for some strange reason i kept thinking it sounded like it belonged on some anime movie soundtrack or something.
Anyways...i found out theres some decent piano playing in segments of some of the songs.
I think that what finally hooked me in a way, to want to take the risk and buy the cd. I liked how they use piano sound becouse it gives their sound a little bit of depth.
The guitar riffs have some meloncholic/tragic sound to them, in some of the songs. i could describe it as a sound that has some'dark despair',without sounding too dramatic. But its nothing complex or vastly deep. Those sounding guitar riffs are brief and repetative, but i bring it up becouse they sorta hit a chord with me, emotionally, and i didnt expect that. But that was VERY SLIGHT.
Besides being kinda impressed with that, when i heard the first song "Dressed For Friend Requests"...when the lead singer sings the lyrics....
"...We're going nowhere fast" ...
That part gave me genuine chills, it actually had a bit of a power to it that gave me an emotional response. Nothing major, but i was like "...gosh"
It wasnt bad. And one thing i liked about most of the songs is that they are short. Its easier for me to listen to this kinda music when its about 2 minutes or so, a song.
So i enjoyed this cd...and considering its their first full length album, i think they did a decent job. I liked it, for real.
A lot of bands have potential, like these kinds. But i hope perhaps they do great things in the future.
Next time ,i would like to hear more complex and deeper piano arrangments.
And more genuine dark despret emotions conveyed in the singers choruses and also the guitar work. If they can make a handfull of very memorable songs, that would be just great.
This is one of the rare times i go and get a album like this, and take a risk with my hard earned money....but i actually like this album, "In Vogue", so it was money well spent. Though its nothing life changing lol, Im real glad i bought this album.
Absolutley Amazing.......2006-07-31
Literally, there isn't much more to say about it. Although, yes, these guys are a big part of the "Fashioncore" scene that is very highlited these days, they are still amazing.

One or Five?.......2006-07-17
Before reviewing this album I was stuck between one of two different possible ratings. There was five stars, and then there was one. Both ratings are feasable, and if you are looking for a solid review, every single on posted here is accurate.
Drop Dead, Gorgeous are recycled hash, and just about the most intense thing I've ever heard at the same time. Frankly, the more broadened your music base is, the more you'll enjoy this band. Although originality is always a factor at this day in age, being able to toss in a CD with some of the most rivetting (although repetative) breakdowns just feels right. I've been consistently enjoying this album for months on end, not because it speaks to me or any of that nonsense, but because it's blatantly amazing in its own way. The scream has to be one of my favourites throughout the genre (so I suppose you can disregard the "constipated baby" comment).
Each track has only a tinge of differentiation between the next, although every time you hear a breakdown in one of the tracks, you'll be able to depict the difference no matter how generic they appear to one another.
My personal favourite tracks (top 3, in order from best to worst) are as follows:
-Well, I never
-Marietta
-In Vogue
The top two can be switched depending on my mood.
All in all? If you like tons of types of music, and there comes a day when there's just nothing with enough energy that's really doing you any good, throw in "In Vogue" by Drop Dead, Gorgeous and just enjoy the bloody CD.

High Expectations.......2005-08-05
A Girl like You" gave Edwyn Collins a hit single of the likes of which he had never seen(despite "Rip it Up"s top ten status in the UK back in 83)but no artist could be more removed from the dreadful one hit wonder label than Postcard's proudest son.
Edwyn Collins started his musical career as the driving force of the charming and trailblazing Orange Juice that foreshadowed, in an era of post punk gloominess, a gentler, and groovier kind of pop from which the Smiths would later build upon.
With the demise of Orange Juice after three albums and an EP Edwyn kickstarted his solo career with a couple of flawed yet rewarding records leading up to his most fully realized album:Gorgeous George in which all his personas coalesced ranging from the crooner(Low Expectations),the popster(Make me feel again),the rocker(Out of this World)and the vitriolic songwriter he always had lurking below the surface(The Campaign for Real Rock)to form a trully representative sample of his craft and one of the 90's best recordings.
Excerpted, http://kachinacrowe.journalspace.com, #258........2004-08-17
Gorgeous George is a master piece. Released in 1993,
George was Scottish singer Edwyn Collins' third solo effort after six years leading the successful post punk band Orange Juice. This album produced Collins' biggest hit to date: "A Girl Like You" heard on the soundtrack to
Empire Records. "Girl Like You" combines a hard edge and pounding bassline with Collins' lounge lizard-esque vocal quality to create a song that could be a Rat Pack re-mix. This is no where near the best of the album which opens with "The Campaign for Real Rock" a blistering take on the 90s alternative scene:
'Yes, yes , yes its the summer festival/ the truely detestible summer festival...'
Fast forward a few tracks to "Low Expectations": 'You've been down this road before/ which is not to say you're bored/ or that you shouldn't want for more/ it's just your expectations should be lower...'
Are all of Collins' songs this cynical? For the most part. However their wry, dark tone fit perfectly with Collins' extrodinarily sardonic voice. The album is rounded though with up tempo numbers, "A Girl Like You" and "Make Me Feel Again", making the album a rocker. Ballads like North of Heaven and "If You Could Love Me" are clever AND torch worthy.
Gorgeous George's parting shot however, a secret track, reminds you which side of the sentimental fence the masterful Edwyn Collins truely falls on.
I reccomend this album to -- EVERYONE! no, really, I do. However I especially reccomend
Gorgeous George to those of you who are riding the Franz Ferdinand wave. Continue with your Scottish theme, but don't go all Proclaimers on me:>P
This is THE one CD to have........2003-12-17
I would rate this probably his best work ever. If you ever liked Edwyn Collins, then this is the album to have.
Beautiful voice and sardonic wit.......2003-09-17
Edwyn Collins showcases his wit and his wonderful singing voice on this 1995 release. "A Girl Like You" is just the tip of the iceberg--Collins' sly sense of humor comes through on songs like "Low Expectations", "North of Heaven", "Gorgeous George" and the bonus track "Moron". The music is wonderful all the way through switching from the guitar-driven to more soulful, groovy tracks. I had the pleasure of seeing Edwyn live in Austin recently and he was fantastic--just him and a guitar. He played many songs off this CD and they were just as good without all the fancy studio effects--a true testament to Collins' craft as a songwriter. And yes, his voice is just as great live. Note: Apparently "A Girl Like You" is being picked up for the next Demi Moore movie which will bring the song to a whole new audience.
One of the best albums i own.......2002-04-01
Sadly, i bought this album at a pawn shop. This is one of those albums that should never see the bargain bin. The hit song "A Girl Like You" is still a good song, even after you listen to the whole album, which is even better. Edwyn Collins had a reputation for being a perfectionist, and i believe it.. except, you don't get the same sense of boredom one gets from other 'perfectionist' bands. He has a knack for creating anthem-style repeat'd lines, that you enjoy hearing over and over, and can't help but sing along ("yes yes yes it's the summer festival, the truly detestable summer festival", "this music don't take you higher,...From start to finish, a truly fantastic album.

A beautiful voice and beautiful music that grows on you .......2006-11-10
This is my first Connie Dover purchase and I can't wait to buy all the rest of her CDs. How could this artist's beautiful voice and delivery not be in the mainstream. Thank you again Accuradio/Radiocelt! I love Connie's story telling--her voice is so clear that you can understand every word she sings! The Holland Handkerchief, Shady Grove and Fear An Bhata all impress in different ways. Ned of the Hill is a special song that may not be your favorite at first but gets better and better each time you hear it. La Fontaine is sung in french and is emotional and touching--the harmonics are haunting. Connie's supporting musical cast compliment her vocal presentation perfectly.
This is the kind of music that grows on you and just gets better and better with each listen. Connie, when is your next CD coming out?

Connie Dover is one of the best celtic singers I have had the pleasure to listen to. I loved the album. I was soothing as well as uplifting.
Evocative, enthralling.......2005-12-07
Here is a wonderful voice, full of purity and presence, singing 11 traditional Irish, Scottish and American songs on 60 minutes of music. This means the songs are longer than the usual 3-minutes-and-out you find on the radio. But frankly I didn't even notice, they are as long as they need to be (except the sweet traditional country tune "Shady Grove", which could be longer).
Connie Dover has a full, clear, rich voice that lets the song shine through even as she lets her voice shape it as it passes. You could not find a greater contrast to a voice like Eva Cassidy's. With Eva, I am sometimes overwhelmed at the stunning power and personality she weaves into her songs, indeed, many have commented that she makes a song her own. Connie Dover makes a song everyone's.
Her voice alone merits 5 stars. But the high quality of the (sometimes melancholy) material and the solid instrumentation are not just bonuses. This is effortless music with lots of musical effort beind it. The song selection is basically from Irish, Scottish and American folk music, with instruments appropriate to the genre. You'll hear some Gaelic and French in the vocals. And always with that pure clear voice.
If you're looking for something away from the rushing waters of American pop music, give her a try. There is a great deal of talent to be found off the main road, here in the backroads of folk music, at its best. "I took the road less traveled by and that has made all the difference." (Robert Frost) Take this road, and see where it takes you.
Love Connie Dover's voice..........2005-07-19
...but haven't gotten into the album yet- in part due to not listening to it enough. I was hoping for a more atmospheric sound as on "Cantus" or "Ubi Caritas" so I think it may take me a while to get used to her more traditional stylings on this album. The country number is neat- a different touch. "Fear an Bhata" is a great opener to the album.
Unsurpassed.......2003-12-30
I still haven't found a Celtic artist I like as much as Connie Dover. Her voice is beautiful, and she never has weak moments. Her diction is perfect, as is her intonation. The instrumental accompaniment always enhances the mood of the song- from piano to fiddle to uillean pipes. Her songs are a nice variety of the older and newer, some with lyrics or melodies she has written herself. The harmonies are beautiful, particularly in La Fontaine. I can't say which of her albums is my favorite, but it might be this one. I listen to all of them frequently.

Album Description
Tracy Grammer and her late partner Dave Carter were one of the most celebrated young acts in folk music. In just four years they released three critically-acclaimed albums, toured with Joan Baez and earned a solid following with their indelible live performances at festivals and venues all across North America. Despite Carter's sudden death in July 2002, Grammer's career as an interpreter and instrumentalist continues. "With the release of Flower Of Avalon, Tracy Grammer begins a new story while continuing to champion the songs of her former partner. While the album features 9 brilliant previously unheard Dave Carter songs, the spotlight is clearly on the gorgeous vocals and instrumental prowess of Tracy Grammer.

Grammer Continues to Carry Carter's Torch.......2007-05-05
Grammer continues to carry Carter's torch. She is his voice from beyond. This is a wonderful compilation of music that provides listers with an excellent example of Carter's songwriting ability. In "Flower of Avalon" Grammer takes Carter's lyrics to a bitter sweet culmination, creating for Carter a crowning achievement. Grammer's voice is passionate, powerful, and precise.
Better with each listen.......2007-02-02
I wasn't in love with this album from the first listen but now it is one of my favorites! Of course with anything Dave Carter writes, it takes a while to get to know the song and unravel its meaning :) Outstanding CD!!!
My new favorite CD, truly beautiful and touching.......2006-11-30
Tracy is coming to my town shortly, and a friend at work lent me her copy of this CD to hear what Tracy does. I'm buying my own copy at the show. I listened all the way through, started out to return the CD, but instead went back to my desk and listened again, every note of it, drinking it in and losing track of what I was working on. I think the last time I did that was in 1968 with Disreali Gears. It is only through the other reviews that I know who Dave Carter was, and his loss is such a shame, such beautiful writing.
Tracy Grammer does these marvelous songs more than justice. Her renditions are a fitting tribute to Carter's lyrics. In her voice I hear notes of Mary Black, a hint of Nanci Griffith, and overtones of Allison Kraus, while maintaining a voice of her own. Should be telling; Tracy holds her own in the harmonies with Mary Chapin Carpenter on this CD. I am usually a rock & blues listener but with an affinity for acoustic music like Chris Smither or Union Station, and this CD has simply touched me from first note to last like few others have. I completely love it.
Flower of Avalon Review.......2006-11-10
I bought this CD about 4 months ago and the more I listen, the more I like it. Tracy Grammer is an exceptional soprano and her backup musicians are extremely talented. The songs she performs (David Carter's music) are refreshing, interesting, and capture the imagination. If you like sopranos and like music in the folk style, you'll like this.
My first exposure to Grammer (and Carter).......2006-08-11
Though "Laughlin Boy" is theoretically the "single" on this album, my ears first poked up listening to our local PBS station play "Hey Ho". What a great indication that protest music was and is still alive and well in the USA. There's not a bad song on this album, though I have to admit that "Winter When He Goes" isn't one of my favorites. I would have liked to hear Carter working with her on "Hard to Make it"...seems as if it would have added to the "punch" of the song if the last line was sung by a male. My favorite, however, has to be "Mother I Climbed". OK, it's a downer, but it's beautiful, and the sentiments are perfect. I also love "Preston Miller" (reminiscent, in some ways, of "Cateye Willie" on an earlier album), and "Phantom Doll".
Carter's mastery of the language is evident on this album. He had a touch with alliteration that is deft, without being obvious.
After hearing this album, I immediately bought the three that they made together...and I'm anxiously awaiting her next.

Drop Dead Gorgeous Soundtrack does NOT Drop Dead!.......2001-07-21
This is a review for the Drop Dead Gorgeous soundtrack. This movie, along with the soundtrack, came out in 1999. I loved the movie and when watching it, there were lots of scenes where I was like " This is a really cool song! " Little did I know, 2 years later on July 17th 2001, the soundtrack would be mine!
[....]
On the the CD: There are 23 tracks, 8 of which are just clips from 9-21 seconds long. That means there are 15 " real " tracks.
I bought this for the song " Pressure Man " by The Feelers, Track 6, 4:30. This song is absolutely BRILLIANT. It is the song used when Kirsten Dunst is performing during the pageant, tap dancing. It has the best beat, good lyrics, and it will motivate you.
I wanted the song when Kirsten Dunst was dancing down the street ... a 10-20 second scene, and I didn't think it was on this. But it is! Number 20. Devils Triangle performed by Primitive Radio Gods, 2:06.
It's not over yet. Oh my. I listen to the WHOLE ALBUM, like right now writing this review, Im listening to Pressure Man. Number One by Lifeboy, Track 2, 2:57 is great, too. As well as She by Sunday Suit, track 3, 2:50, Lost Picasso by Hot Sauce Johnson, track 13, 3:13, and the Original Score RULES. It seems like such a new age song and so many instruments. It is track 18, 2:36, and composed by Mark Mothersbaugh.
Anyways, I hope I have helped you guys out there who want more info about the album. [Others]really only say how good Number One by Lifeboy is, and thats it. There is SO much more to this album, you can just fall asleep to this loving every song.
Thanks for reading! -Alex S.
PS: Listen to track 23, Last Laugh. It's 21 seconds long and a clip from the movie where one of the actresses, the one who's brother is Peter, says to the judges " You Know, the retards pants are open. " She starts lauhging on and on and snorting. IT WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH! I just keep listening to it! Hysterical!
Bye!
Not all good, but the ones that are are *excellent*.......2000-09-29
I've watched this movie quite a few times, and was always thinking of buying the soundtrack. Now, I don't like all the songs, but the ones that are on there that I like make it worth buying, because you can't get them anywhere else! The best, in my opinion: Girl That's Hip (Tim Carroll), Young American (Everything), She (Sunday Suit), and of course, Number One (Lifeboy). Ironically, the song Number One is #2 on the CD (because of a silly clip from the movie). Anyway, those songs are really great and I think it's worth it just for those four.
Excellent!.......2000-03-06
This is an awesome CD, i recomend it really highly! I love the little things inbetween too. GO BUY IT! KIRSTEN RULES!
Sunday Suit blew me AWAY!.......2000-01-12
Hey, what can i say...where is sunday suit? Why is SIRE records just sitting on them? Radio friendly 3 minute pop tune. Absolutely gorgeous and you can preview the track! (#3)
Joan Jett makes this CD.......1999-08-14
Joan's cover of "Love is All Around" isn't as good as Husker Du's or Swagger's but it's pretty great nonetheless and is pretty much the only thing that makes the soundtrack worth buying.

Nostalgia Trip.......2005-09-24
Helps you remember these great and atmospheric movies. Only Nino Rota writes better movie music.
Sweet and Sublime.......1999-06-13
"La valse de Francois T" makes my heart want to burst. Never has sweet melancholia been so sweetly and lyrically expressed. This entire album is a godsend, but "La valse" - it is something else, far beyond my power to convey.
The aural equivalent of Truffaut's films: humane, touching........1998-10-03
Hitchcock had Bernard Herrmann, and Spielberg has John Williams, and Francois Truffaut had Georges Delerue. "Jules and Jim" jauntily evokes the delicious problems of one woman in love with two men. With "Shoot the Piano Player" you can almost see Charles Aznavour in his seedy Paris cafe. And most gloriously, for Truffaut's Oscar winner as Best Foreign Film, "Day for Night," Delerue composes a chorale that celebrates the endlessly repetitious, endlessly varied rituals of filmmaking. A wonderful collection of themes from nine films (plus "La valse de Francois T."), performed by the London Sinfonietta under the direction of Hugh Wolff.

Kick 'bottom' (ahem) guitar work.......2004-12-19
I first found Jim Henry when I saw him tour with Tracy Grammer. I was impressed but I wondered what he would sound like without Tracy's vocals and violin in the mix. We'll it is different but man the guy knows what to do with a guitar. He plays kind of a mix of folk, blues, and country. This CD he did with Brooks Williams brings out the best in both artist. If you want to hear some really fine guitar work you can stop right here. I would give anything to see these guys play this stuff live.
Awesome collaboration.......2003-09-11
'Ring Some Changes' is an instrumental collaboration between two excellent singer songwriters. The range of styles is very eclectic, from gypsy jazz to classically inspired pieces, and it includes original songs from both artists in addition to an interesting selection of covers.
This album didn't leave my CD player for about six months after I bought it. I even prefer it to Brooks' solo instrumental album 'Little Lion,' which is also excellent. Highly recommended to fans of either artist.
These two artist's make an excellent pair.......1999-08-04
Brooks Williams and Jim Henry team up to create an awsome CD. This music gets your foot tapping but calms the inner spirit. Excellent CD.
