5 out of 5 stars Buy this CD now!!!.......2007-02-05

I love this album. It's one of his best! Break the Chain is one of my favorites of his career, and also one of my favorite of any singer. I have no idea what he's saying in La Bas, but that one is in my top 10 too. Everytime You Smile is a beautiful song from a father to his child. It's full of so much promise and emotion and heart (no pun intended). That song alone is worth the price of this album. Corey Hart manages to capture emotions in his lyrics like nobody else and this album adds a new maturity to the level of emotion that he conveys. If you like his stuff, you should have this album. Period. The end. So stop reading this and just buy it already.

5 out of 5 stars Mature, smooth, rock collection.......2003-11-26

Corey Hart could easily find a niche with many of these
well crafted songs. Although he's mellowed some as a new dad
he still can create great pop songs, he is one romantic writer
he more than surprised me with this set. It seems some reviewers
just want Mr. Hart to relive his glory days, he IS a songwriter,
musican and producer and I'm glad he's stretching out and
making some beautiful music that has something positive to say.

2 out of 5 stars Jaded..........2003-01-02

I know, one wishes for it to never happen, but sooner or later it always does...
Eventually Corey let me down..
This album by Corey is the one i really cannot relate to.
The lyrics are way too obscure, the musical production is just a mess...
He sounds jaded, tired...seems not even enjoying his music talent anymore.
There are a couple oftracks that save the day of course, otherwise i would have brought this back to the store rightaway...
LA-BAS is a nice duet written and sung in french by Corey and new wifey Julie Masse, written and produced by the same team behind Celine Dion's most successful french tunes.
SO VISIBLE (EASY TO MISS) is a fun track, reminds me of SPOT YOU IN A COALMINE.
The rest...well, better luck next time Corey!

4 out of 5 stars Corey Harts most cohesive collection.........2002-01-11

I've listened to mostly everything Corey's put out
over the years, some ok, some very intense and
personal and always heartfelt, thats why I always
enjoyed his singles throughout the 80's. I was surfing
around music here on Amazon and came across Corey Hart
another 80's music fixture that became a videostar thanks to the folks from MTV land. Corey Hart is
more than what they sold him off as, a kind of pin-up
boy pop rocker. He knows how to write good pop songs, and
his ballads really worked but he knew what he wanted to do and this, his newest addition, as well as 1996(COREY HART) are by far his most
cohesive and enjoyable collections of his career. I had
completely lost track of him during the 90's? I
guess like me he is getting older (just about to
hit the big 40) and he is writing more about his
family and life. If radio and programmers in general
had listened to some of this they would have given
him another chance. Songs such as "Jade", "Without you",
the back to back beauties "Reconcile" and "Above the
trees" showcase a much more mature and reflective
adult singer-songwriter musician who has something important
to say and he still likes to rock out, he reminds me
at times of John Bon Jovi's singing style but Corey
is his own style for sure. This is a very enjoyable
addition to his collection, lets hope he gets back
in the studio soon. Corey is his own vision, not something thought up by the likes that create our illustrious
star maker machinery boy bands of the 90's who sing and dance
to fill the big guys pockets?? We've come a long way! ha

3 out of 5 stars Half a Gem.......2001-01-06

It's hard to believe that this is the same Corey Hart who charged on the scene with the hypnotic and aggressive "Sunglasses at Night." To his credit, his vocals have improved, and he possesses a clearer, not as abrasive, voice now that compliments the tunes assembled on "Jade." Unfortunately, the part is better than the whole! The first six tracks are basically repetitive and soporific. I don't understand fellow reviewers' fascination with the French duet he does with Julie Masse.

Once track 7 kicks in, though, the rest of the CD is wonderful! "Jade" is a melodic and hypnotic tune; "Reconcile" is beautifully written and performed; "Above the Trees" is a stunning blend of melody and lyric, and has a truly ethereal feel; "Bittersweet" is a mid-tempo tune that is more reminiscent of Hart's earlier "Never Surrender", "Believing" is another up-tempo with some punch and style; and the elegantly beautiful "Every Time You Smile" is simply outstanding.

I wish Corey had looked more carefully at his first six tracks, and made this an outstanding "comeback" collection. As it is, it's worth a listen for the last six tracks!

A great find. Snatch it up if you like interesting instrumental sounds that defy easy categorization. Elements is a better find as it collects 4 Jade Warrior lps on 2 cds; but they are all worth seeking out.

4 out of 5 stars As a remastered version it earns a lot!!.......2003-03-12

Well it's difficult to add something diverse, in comparison to such several opinions about this album with exotic moods, relaxing and pleasant atmospheres, almost in the vein of modern New-Age ... the elegant and distinctive sound of such Duhig brothers' guitars and the support of a pleasant flute as well, make this classic an original chapter of instrumental progressive rock, characterized also by some interesting breaks through, plus some stunning and heavy riffs, which earn a lot within this remastered version!

I suggest this odd work to you, which is not a masterpiece but is always enjoyable ...

"Way of the Sun" is a more upbeat album than their previous 3 releases, blending Eastern sounds with soft fusion and progressive. Soft flute passages mix with acoustic guitars and lush percussive waves, similar at times to Mike Oldfield and even Gandalf.

5 out of 5 stars ONLY IF YOU WANTA' ROCK.......2006-02-04

A great listen. This album rocks more than the previous three. It starts out slow which is not what this CD is.Too Many Heroes really rocks and possibly could have been a FM hit had it been released on time (1973).SONG FOR A SOLDIER is a rather strange piece, a protest song of sort.Maenga Sketch is the stand out piece in my opinion,an instrumental it has all;the tribal beat, japanese flute, intense guitar chops, and a hint of THREE-HORNED DRAGON KING near the end.Holy Roller is another heavy on the guitar song which brings us to House of Dreams. It is a soundscape piece, well put together and placed perfectly at the end of the CD.I don't want to mislead you,JW had released better tracks on previous work. This CD does have more Rock and Roll than their previous work. There is not a bad track on it but be forewarned,if you are looking for mood music stay away,if you wanta ROCK then this CD is for you!

        Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars At last! Well, almost ..........2007-02-18

I've been waiting for years for this album to be released on CD, and now at last it has been. Except, of course, Amazon doesn't have it ... Time to go hunting for it further afield.

The first time I played Jade, 'way back when I'd bought the vinyl, I thought they were a bit so-so -- as someone else says, they could maybe have done without quite so many strings. But then, as I played the album more, I realized that, no, it was right the way it was. The album grew on me, and became a strong favorite.

Even though Ms Segal can't spell "anemones" ...

5 out of 5 stars Very fine underrated gem, good folk-rock.......2006-01-23

First of all, I agree with the other reviewers comments about this album and how they sound. Marian Segal definitely has a great and wonderful voice, very similar to Sandy Denny, and I also agree that the songs she wrote are very fine songs indeed. She had a great talent for songwriting as well as singing, and all of the originals on this CD are very good, and even the cover songs are done quite well. This album is a real gem for those who collect any British folk rock from the late 60's and early 70's, and when I first heard this, I was very pleased with it, there's not one bad song on it, and the music and the playing of the instruments by the other members is excellent as well, but it's Marian Segal's beautiful vocals that makes this one and only album by Jade a classic, and I higly recommend getting this if you like groups like Fairport Convention, Trees, Tudor Lodge, Mellow Candle, and many others. It really is a great album!

        3 out of 5 stars Sweet harmonies.......2005-09-20

Jade is one of the (nowadays) lesser known folkrock bands of the late 60s, and it's really nice to have this record back into print.
Apparently all songs have been written by Marian(ne) Segal (except for a few bonus tracks), and most of them are really fine with great melodies and tender lyrics. All instruments are handled deftly, while the trump card must be the vocals: miss Segal has an excellent voice (though a bit too heavy on the vibrato methinks) and the harmony singing is stunning!
On the other hand I am less impressed by the overall sound: as the songs themselves are quite pretty the addition of strings is making them rather too sweet.
In short, Jade is more like Sandy Denny solo than Sandy Denny with Fairport, more like Tudor Lodge than Trees, and with a tendency towards an american folk sound.
The accompanying booklet contains detailed historic information about the band by Marian(ne) Segal herself.

4 out of 5 stars Very Good British Folk/Rock.......2003-11-04

Very comparable to Fairport Convention and Sandy Denny albums of the same era. Marian Segal has a great voice and writes some fine songs. The album has an autumnal feel to it that's typical of British Folk/Rock of the late 60's and early 70's. The extra tracks, Big Yellow Taxi and Carolina in My Mind, are interesting takes on the Joni Mitchell and James Taylor songs, but it's original tunes like Fly On Strangewings, Fly Me to The North, and Amongst Anenomes that make this an album worth adding to your collection.
