About the Artist
"evën sh'siyah" is composed of six musicians from Chicago: Elisha Prero on guitar, David Margulis on bass, Ely Cooper on guitar, Mitch Jacoby on guitar, Matt Kanter on drums, and Zev Goldberg on percussion.

"evën sh'siyah" blends original music with lyrics taken form an array of classic Jewish texts. The band's musical influences are eclectic, and include rock, folk, reggae, bluegrass, Mid-Eastern, and jazz. The band has integrated these genres creating a cohesive and unique musical soundscape of its own. They have been playing together for seven years and released their debut CD, "...through your gates, Jerusalem" in 1997. They have performed at Northwestern University, University of Chicago, Loyola University, the Skokie Festival of Cultures, the Greater Chicago Jewish Folk Arts Festival, as well as many other venues.

evën sh'siyah is Hebrew for "foundation stone". According to Jewish tradition, the original element of the Creation was this primordial stone, form which the entire world came into existence.

I never new that Jewish music could be so cool. This album has changed my life.

This is the one and only true rock album, Jewish or not, that I've heard since 1979!

If you like electric guitars, buy this album now! The only thing you'll be unhappy with is the time you'll have to wait for the band to come out with a third album. (hopefully?)
