About the Artist
Gregg’s study of the piano began at age eight at the Hartford Conservatory for Music in Hartford, Connecticut. By the time Gregg turned 12 years of age, he was eager to be expressive in ways that - a piano teacher would not allow. This desire to explore was enhanced through the use of a two deck Organ complimented with foot pedals and a large speaker owned by his neighbor. As a result, this provided an opportunity to develop the basis for his own style as the marriage between his left and right hand was forged.

In High School, his instructor focused on teaching him how to play the classics i.e., Bethoven, Bach and other composers. Gregg performed in a number of recitals over the four year period along with classmates, for faculty, family and friends.

As an undergraduate at the University of Connecticut, Gregg quickly became known for his piano playing abilities. Subsequently, he would frequently perform for Sororities, Fraternities and other student organizations to play at their special events, social affairs and more.

After Gregg graduated from U-Conn, he began playing music in public anywhere he could find an available piano. Gregg performed at restaurants and a Night Club that hosted Jazz bands on Friday nights. Over the years he has performed in numerous locations, as he continued to be a career professional student. In that span of time, Gregg acquired a Baby Grand Piano, an Associate Degree in Science for Respiratory Therapy only after receiving a Bachelor of Science in Education. He also received a Master of Public Health and holds a license as a Nursing Home Administrator and operated a number of Nursing Homes.

After 20 years of arranging and composing his own music, Gregg Jarrell comes to you with his Debut Album titled "Time Piece." A colorful style that does indeed harness the Eloquent beauty that the sound of the piano offers. Gregg suggests that his listeners sit back, relax and simply absorb the tranquility of the sound woven into his music.

Gregg Jarrell's debut recording, "Timepiece," is a collection of five original piano solos that have both jazz and classical roots, but sound mostly improvised. This approach gives the album a very loose, good-natured feeling that is easy to relax with. Most of the titles sound extremely placid - i.e. "True Calm," "Sweet Dreams," "Center of Tranquility" - but the songs are more complex and have more energy than the titles convey. The irregular rhythms and occasional dissonances give the music an edge that I would classify as closer to jazz than "new age" (if I had to pigeon-hole it - something I'd rather not do!). The dynamic range is also broader than many pianists', an indication of Jarrell's classical training at the Hartford Conservatory of Music in Connecticut. While the individual pieces are varied, the CD carries a consistent mood all the way through, making it an ideal backdrop for a cozy dinner or an evening by the fire. It would also be great for "kicking back" after a tough day. Gregg Jarrell has a very expressive playing style, and those who enjoy their piano music less formally structured and more improvised should really enjoy this one. Cool and breezy, "Timepiece" is a very promising debut.

Gregg Jarrell's music is stress relieving and adds serenity to a hectic day. I can escape into a world of comfort and relaxation as it is a well-composed piece of new age piano music. I strongly recommend it.

Hey Gregg, I think your cd is excellent! I usually prefer hip hop. But your cd is wonderful. It's relaxing, its soothing, and it helps to release stress. I especially enjoy the song "Chayla" from your first tape. I think it would have been a great addition to your new album. Congratulations and keep up the good work.
