Hot Sweet Soca.......2005-07-09

This CD is rarely out of my car's CD player. I can't seem to get enough of it. When I first listened to the CD, I wasn't terribly impressed. A couple of songs caught my attention, but I wasn't overwhelmed. Knowing familiarity can increase my pleasure with music, I thought I'd listen a couple more times. UH OH!!! I got hooked and now can't get enough of cuts 4, 7, and 10. (Run the Vampire, Sticks and Stones, and the VERY BEST is Jumbie) Every friend I've played it for has since bought a copy.

This is definitely one of the best soca albums for the year 2000. It contains Lord Kitchener's final hit "TOCO BAND", and smash hits by Super Blue,3 Canal and a hit by Black Lyrics that will have you chipping around the room. This CD had better instrumental quality than vocal. Some of the vocal songs were like fingernails on the blackboard--off key. The instrumental songs seemed to have more electric guitars than steel drum sounds. I was very disappointed.

This is an ok sampler of some good reggae, but if you are interested in reggae I strongly encourage you to check out individual artists such as Jimmy Cliff, Peter Tosh and of course Bob Marley.

Bad mix of songs.......2005-06-21

Yeesh. Who slapped this collection together? Great songs mixed in with slush. Not the most dancey reggae either. Some of it's (arguably) not even reggae. If you're looking for dance reggae check out Toots & the Maytals "Reggae Got Soul" or "Funky Kingston."
