Craig Morgan was seen as just another also-ran with his eponymous first album in 2000, even as there was much about his debut that promised more. Then, when no one was looking, his second album, I Love It, yielded "Almost Home," which garnered a buzz in even the most jaded Nashville circles. Now comes CD number three. An album track, "That's What I Love About Sunday," a soulful melody wedded to a lyric about the joys of a lazy weekend--church, coupon clipping, loving--surprised a lot of folks by grabbing the No. 1 spot on the singles charts for four straight weeks, marking the first time an indie single had done so since the Kendalls' "Heaven's Just a Sin Away" in 1977. Chances are, several songs from this lively CD will follow on the charts, particularly "Blame Me," which finds Brad Paisley and John Conlee joining forces to take credit (hopefully tongue-in-cheek) for country's current popularity. Several tracks ("I'm Country," "Redneck Yacht," and "In My Neighborhood," which references a plastic coon dog as a hood ornament) work the populist theme to death. But Morgan, who wrote 8 out of the 12 cuts, also knows how to deliver a hurtin' ballad ("That's When I'll Believe That You're Gone") and a grateful love song ("I Got You"). Watch this ol' boy finally take his rightful place as a cornbread contender. --Alanna NashCustomer Reviews:
Best Country CD I've heard in a LONG Time.......2007-05-08
Then came the concert and all I can say is WOW ... this man is amazing. his voice is awesome, his music is fresh ... and refreshing. He is a man with a country core ... values and faith and I now can't get enough of his music.

Can't stop listening!.......2006-01-12
"That's What I Love About Sunday" is a relaxing tune about Sundays, from church services to Sunday afternoon naps. "I'm Country" is my absolute favorite. The chorus is catchy and it is hard not to find yourself singing along to words like "White beans, collard greens, sweet tea, chicken and dumplins"! The serious tracks are well-written, and you can hear the emotion in Craig's voice. "Lotta Man (In that Little Boy)" tells the story of a young boy who seems to be more grown up than other kids his age. The funner songs, like "Redneck Yacht Club", will have you singing along!
A must-have for ANY country cd collection!!!.......2005-10-11

Given their impact on generations of country, country-rock, and bluegrass acts, it's amazing the Louvins haven't had a modern tribute before. Unlike tribute albums that stumble through inconsistent performances and ill-matched material, this one soars, the selections well matched to the paired artists. Joe Nichols and Rhonda Vincent capture "Cash on the Barrelhead's" sassy humor. Emmylou Harris--who spearheaded the Louvin revival--and Rodney Crowell are relaxed on the Louvin hit "My Baby's Gone." Merle Haggard and the album's producer Carl Jackson capture the anguish of "Must You Throw Dirt in My Face." Glen Campbell and Leslie Satcher wring maximum passion from "When I Stop Dreaming." Obscure gospel tunes receive equally stellar treatment. "Keep Your Eyes on Jesus" teams Pam Tillis with Johnny Cash (handling the recitation) and the Jordanaires. Marty Stuart and Del McCoury establish the Louvins' bluegrass ties on "Let Us Travel, Travel On." By seamlessly blending traditional and modern Jackson's created a magnificent tribute that doubles as a fine introduction to the Louvins' earthy, breathtaking majesty. --Rich KienzleCustomer Reviews:

Trent Willmon's sophomore bolt from the chutes not only bears out the promise of his 2004 debut, but proves him to be a more solid artist than some folks might have thought. The West Texas native cowrote seven of the eleven songs, which draw on his own life as a creek-bank philosopher, real-life cowboy, and father. For that reason, perhaps, Willmon never sounds forced or inauthentic in romancing about Shiner Bock, fishing gear, and an iced down Iglou cooler, or building a Chris LeDoux-like song around the easy camaraderie of a roping pen. He comes across as a man who solidly knows who and what he is, even if it's a jilted lover hoping to revive a dead-end romance ("On Again Tonight"). As a stylist, the traditionalist seldom veers from form, his voice as durable yet as plain as a pair of blue Wranglers. Yet try as he might, he's not really the right singer for his own "Louisiana Rain," a scorchingly passionate R&B song of loneliness and desire. But elsewhere, particularly on the funny cheating song "Surprise," Willmon proves a fine guide to his material, taking great pleasure in life's guilty--and simple--pleasures. --Alanna NashCustomer Reviews:

Amazon.com essential recording
Of all the country music artists to break big in the '90s, Alan Jackson best straddles the genre's sense of tradition and its newfound modern sheen. More than any other superstar, the Georgia native clings to the age-old sound of fiddles, steel guitars, and rhythms that shuffle and swing. Still, on his third and his most successful album, Jackson proves how well he can turn traditional sounds into commercially accessible hits. "Chattahoochee" and "She's Got the Rhythm (And I've Got the Blues)" display his flair for bringing bright detail and a casual sense of fun to uptempo tunes. Meanwhile, ballads such as "Tonight I Climbed the Wall" show that he can create heartbreakers equal to those of his heroes, Merle Haggard and George Jones. --Michael McCallCustomer Reviews:
Really good........2006-09-19
Best $6 I ever spent. This album swings, boogies, and even provides a few quiet ballads. Nearly every song is a gem.
I recommend it to anyone who's interested in Alan.
UGH!.......2004-09-02
THE LAMEST/CORNIEST MUSIC I'VE EVER HEARD!.......2004-04-14
One Of His Best.......2003-04-09
A lot of the songs Jackson writes deal with classic country themes. The opening footstomper "Chattahoochie" is a fond look at growing up in the south, while the heart-rending ballad "Tonight I Climb The Walls" evokes memories of vintage George Jones. The lilting island flavor of "Tropical Depression" adds a nice change of pace.
Jackson co-wrote fewer songs than usual (only seven this time around). The other three are among the lighter tunes on the album and provide some balance. "I Don't Need The Booze (To Get A Buzz On)" is an anti-drinking song while "She Likes It Too" was written by two former Jackson collaborators who effectively capture some of his loves (motorcycles, long hair, country music) and make it instantly identifiable with the man. The closer, "Mercury Blues," added some life to the tired car genre has gone on to become a Jackson fan favorite.
Honky Tonk.......2003-01-30
The album opens with the upbeat song about growing up on the river. "Chattahoochee" is one of the more upbeat songs on the album, and has a little catchy riff and staccato style lyrics. "Mercury Blues" bookends the album with another upbeat song. Like the stereotype of Country, a lot of the songs on this album are about being left by a woman. Songs like "She's Got the Rhythm (and I Got the Blues)" and "(Who Says) You Can't Have It All" are true ballads of the broken heart. "Up To My Ears In Tears" is more of a comical and upbeat version of being dumped, filled with some good guitar work. The song that stands out the best of the album is "Tropical Depression". Again, it's a being dumped song, but everyone was on for this song.
Jackson is good, new Country. He's changed his style some since this album first came out, but it is good nonetheless.

George in relaxed mood.......2005-05-17
The album yielded two number one country hits (Love without end amen, I've come to expect it from you), both original songs, and a country top five hit (Drinking Champagne), which was a cover of a song originally recorded by Cal Smith. George recorded two songs (Someone had to teach you, She loves me she don't love you) with his road band. The other tracks including the hits were recorded with studio musicians - however, the album flows seamlessly and if you didn't read the credits (or this review) you probably wouldn't realize that different musicians were used. There are plenty of other wonderful songs here including Lonesome rodeo cowboy, We're supposed to do that now and then, When you're a man on your own and Stranger in my arms.
This is a very enjoyable George Strait album. It probably isn't the place to begin a George Strait collection (unless you're also a Don Williams fan) but it definitely desevves a place in such a collection.
Real country style album.......2001-09-12
Out of 26 albums, this is my favorite.......2000-05-30
Drinking Champagne is perhaps a tad too lethargic for the emotion it wishes to carry, and its message is nearly a sequel to the situation in When You're a Man On Your Own.
An almost-perfect balance of slow and fast tunes is attained, and feeling and attitude are utilized almost perfectly on every song. The bar is raised even higher than usual.

A listening delight for fans.......2006-04-27
Unlike 2005's The Essential Alabama set, this collection cherry picks songs from across the years. Plenty of hits are to be had as well as eight previously unreleased tracks. The set comes with a detailed 52-page book with photos, band timeline, track annotations and an essay by Robert Oermann. This set tells about the band's legacy and gives you an understanding of why RIAA named them the "Country Band of the Century."
From the get go, disc 1 captures you with "My Home's In Alabama (Live)," "Forty Hour Week (For A Livin')," an anthem for millions of people, and a seven-plus minute medley of "That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine/Suppertime/Teach Your Children/Don't It Make You Want To Go Home." This is followed by "Mountain Music," which always gets my foot tapping.
Disc 2 starts out with "Feels So Right," a song that millions (me included) slow danced to many times in the '80s. A song that surprised me was Alabama's version of "God Must Have Spent A Little More Time on You," with 'N Sync doing the harmony vocals. Though 'N Sync made the song famous, Alabama added real feeling to it. Granted, they're different music genres, but it's the quintessential Alabama that has been keeping it "real" all these years while America's popular music tastes have varied widely from the artificial sounding '80s, the grunge '90s and whatever it's called today.
Disc 3 just keeps the good music rolling and finishes off with an interesting trio of songs, the story-telling "Ripperly O'Tucke (Demo)," the name dropping "Hats Off" and ending appropriately with "The Fans."
51 songs including almost two dozen number one songs, over half a dozen live/alternate versions, and eight previously unreleased tracks, Livin' Lovin' Rockin' Rollin' is worthy of anyone's music collection.
"We hope you remember, we are just the boys in the band. And what keeps the fires a'burnin,' is always, you the fans." Many fans remember fondly all right. Alas, the band's retirement from the road won't keep fans from looking forward to more recordings.
Must Have.......2006-03-20
Derek Kidd
A rich, career spanning box set.......2006-02-24
Over the course of their 22 years with RCA, Alabama defined what it was to be a successful country music band. In an industry dominated by star singers and their backing players, Alabama looked to both the '70s Southern rock experience (Allmans, et al.) and the twangy style of Nashville to forge a new country identity. Their electric guitars and drums are topped with pure country harmonies, and their songs (both originals and those picked up from others' pens) were down-home. While the rock world was busy with the purposely artificial sounds of new wave throughout the '80s, Alabama kept the guitars and drums burning, particularly in their live performances, and turned out touching ballads with equal ease. Their '90s hits like "I'm in a Hurry (and Don't Know Why)" are prime examples of how modern country could take in pop influences without becoming crossover mush, and latter-day top-20s like "The Cheap Seats" and "Born Country" are filled with warmth.
Those looking to understand Alabama's chart dominance may be better served by last year's two-disc set, but anyone who wants to learn (or relive) the band's whole story would be well-served by this new set. Longtime fans will enjoy the opportunity to recount select album tracks, listen to several well-known hits in live versions (and in the case of "Face to Face," an alternate studio take), and hear unreleased items that include the one-off 1982 live medley of "That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine / Suppertime / Teach Your Children / Don't It Make You Want to Go Home" and the 1973 Randy Owen acoustic demo of "Ripperly O'Tucke." Those who first heard these songs in their original release may find the lack of chronological ordering to be disconcerting, but overall the programming flows smoothly.
This isn't the all-encompassing Alabama box set that will satiate everyone's needs - there are far too many hits missing, or replaced by live versions to be definitive. But as a retelling of the rise and sustained artistry of country music's most successful band - the band that defined success as a country music group - it's a winner. While not one of his biggest sellers, this 1988 album is a fine representation of George Strait's new-traditionalist sound, which opened the door for the wave of "hat-acts" that took over country music in the early '90s. Tommy Collins's title track is a piece of vintage Bakersfield honky-tonk, while "Under These Conditions" and "Famous Last Words of a Fool" are barstool lamentations worthy of George Jones. Fiddler Johnny Gimble and pianist Floyd Domino lend an authentic Texas dance-hall kick to the Nashville rhythm section. --Rick MitchellCustomer Reviews:

"If You Ain't Lovin'".......2000-12-15
Good offering starts to lose steam at end.......2000-07-11
The title track, a classic by Faron Young, is given a great cover and is updated to the eighties' "new traditionalist" sound. Baby Blue has since taken its place as one of his fans' favorite lost love ballads. George sounds as if he's on the verge of tears and is barely holding it together. Famous Last Words carries the same theme, but uses a fresh point-of-view.
Among the unreleased songs, Under These Conditions is the best, a sweeping honky tonk ballad which boasts a lot of heart. Bigger Man and Back to Bein' are also very well done. The album, however, does have three below average songs: Don't Mind, Is It That Time, and Let's Get Down. They lack the usual spit and polish that Strait songs usually boast, and bring down the album from the 5 star level. While the melodies are passable, the lyrics could have used another rewriting on certain phrases and wording.

Damn Near A Classic.......2002-09-20
in which almost every song is equally good. It is one of the very few CD's that would my music collection would always feel incomplete without(unlike his last two CD's 'Electric' and 'Hey You'). Listening to it always feels like running into an old friend.
Sad, happy, depressed, or drunk, this CD accomodates whatever mood I am in at the moment. Ingrams' lyrics are biting and poignant. The music is staight up honky tonk. The guitar playing and Jack's voice jump right off the disk. I think 'Airways Motel' is one of the best damn songs I every heard. The rest of the songs ain't too far behind. Easily my favorite single CD by any of the current Texas singer/songwriters. You better get it before it's ungettable.
Great Album.......2002-02-09
Brilliant hard-edged Texas country.......2001-06-02
Mostly recorded live-in-the-studio, the band is focussed and energized. As the previous live release showed, the band smokes on stage. Which is good, because on-stage is where you're most likely to hear them; commercial radio didn't even notice this album. Hopefully record buyers will know better.
With the demise of the Rising Tide label, this and "Live at Adair's" are sadly out-of-print. Well worth hunting down a used copy of each.
