I've seen him live twice in Camden, Maine (at the 2004 and 2006 Pop!Tech conferences) and he gets better everytime. His music is linked to our daily lives. He reminds me that we are what we are and not what we pretend to be. I strongly recommend his music.

What can I say? You have to listen to a few songs and you'll be hooked. Who else sings about being enslaved by robots and forced to work in a mine on an asteroid, but looking forward to Christmas?

What a wonderful find!.......2006-06-07

Sometimes life brings you unexpected and wonderful suprises and that's what happened when we found this gem of a CD. I was searching Amazon.com for songs to use for old fashioned circle dances, musical parades and movement activities for young children. I'm a homeschooling mom of two boys ages 2 and 5 and we've invited 27 neighborhood children to join us every week this summer for the above activities.

After much searching, I came across Ms. Downing's CD titled The Second Line: Scarf Activity Songs (we purchased this wonderful CD as well). From there we were led to Wild and Woolly Wiggle Songs. You can't hear samples at Amazon but go to CD Baby, where you'll be treated to a few tracks from this CD.

While children are sure to delight in this CD, it's very family friendly - meaning adults will enjoy the music just as much (even after repeated playing). The diverse musical influences which inspire Ms. Downing make every track on this CD a winner.

Highlights include the bluesy track "I've Got the Blues" (about a chameleon), the lovely and lilting "Music of the Sea" which makes you want to waltz and "The Herds of Africa" with its rhythmic beat all lend to a wonderful fusion of rich sounds. "Leap Frog Croaky" has a definite finger poppin' vibe and "On the Farm" sounds like one of those classic children's songs that will be around for generations. "Let's Go Bananas, Two" is reminiscent of a golden oldie my grandmother would sing; it definitely makes you want to break out your ukele and kazoo and join in. And if the track "Give Me That Zydeco" doesn't have you up on your feet dancing, you need to check your vital signs!

It's clear after hearing this CD that Ms. Downing is extremely talented. The awards she's received for this CD are deserved recognition for that talent. So buy this CD and put on your dancing shoes!

This is great children's music that even I don't tire of. My kids request Johnette Downing's music every time we get in our van. All of her CD's are upbeat, educational, and creative. Her music is such a welcome change to the usual children's CD's. You will love it!! We're looking forward to more releases!!

Great Music For All Ages.......2001-04-06

I love this CD! Johnette has created music that you do not get tried of when your kids want to hear it over and over again. (As mine do) My 8 year old loves it and so does my 3 year old. It is the best children's cd out there. The songs are toe-tappers.

Probably the best CD I've heard since..........2003-08-11

Joe Deveau's "Take My Chances" is a gem that covers a ton of ground while never feeling like "music for musicians". Joe's songs echo the best work of artists ranging from Stevie Wonder and D'Angelo ("Find Out for Myself") to Dave Matthews (portions of "All Over You" and "Early December") to Billy Joel to...Joe Deveau?!? (Where in the world did "Digits" come from?) I think any artist will reflect his influences, and Joe manages to do so while sounding fresh and new. His fluid genre-bending (easily on par with, if not ahead of, that of folks like Sting) results in a set of songs full of surprises. I had some idea of the diversity of styles represented on the record via the samples on Joe's website ... which I heard prior to the record's release, but hearing the songs in their entirety I was impressed at the places he takes them. The bottom line is that these are great, catchy songs that keep the listener's interest. Joe is clearly a very gifted writer.

It's worth mentioning that the band that accompanies Joe on this CD is incredible. They handle these complex songs easily and contribute many unforgettable musical moments.

Joe's definately got the goods to be a major voice in music. Buy this CD before Joe gets scooped up by a wise major label. My guess is these indie label pressings will be worth a pretty penny. Kaw, indeed!
