The album feels even more like a collection of singles (instead of an actual movie soundtrack) than Help! or A Hard Day's Night, but maybe that's because every song sounds like it could have been a hit single--with the natural exception of the goofy/weird instrumental "Flying." Even George's "Blue Jay Way" paints a vivid sound-portrait in fascinating detail. (I consider Joni Mitchell's "Car on the Hill" from Court and Spark to be a companion piece about sitting in the Hollywood Hills, waiting for somebody to show up.) And although the goofy TV movie may have been mostly Paul's baby, this album features the two 45 rpm masterpieces that sum up the quintessential best of Lennon and McCartney at this stage of their development: Paul's "Penny Lane" and John's "I Am the Walrus." --Jim EmersonAlbum Description

The world can't get enough of Madonna, and with CD/DVD sets like The Confessions Tour dropping regularly, it's little wonder why. As a thrower of fantasy dance parties, she is peerless. As a physical role model for the 40-ish women who grew up on her music, she rules. And as an arbiter of what's going to sound shockingly original in any given decade--well, duh. The Confessions Tour rounds up songs from way back--"Ray of Light" and "La Isla Bonita" make the DVD, and "Lucky Star" and "Like a Virgin" are on the CD as well as the DVD--but this concert, filmed in 2006 at London's Wembley Arena, aims its sturdiest spotlight on Confessions on a Dance Floor, Madge's 2005 disco disc. You could argue, then, that unless you're in it for the sheer DVD spectacle (and what a spectacle it is), there's no sense in owning this package. Only you wouldn't be right. Because as any on-the-ball Madonna fan knows, what she's doing musically is telling a story--you may already know the characters, but that doesn't mean she hasn't completely reworked the plot. To that end, "I Love New York" gets its rock on, "Let It Will Be" has a musical temper tantrum, and "Hung Up" goes for the drama queen award. You've heard these songs before, but you've never heard them quite like this, to borrow a bad informercial phrase. As twisted and hopped-up as they've become, they're all worth getting to know again. --Tammy La GorceAlbum Description

Best Madonna Ever.......2007-07-12
The Confessions Tour, Live from London.......2007-07-05
The Evolution of Madonna : Pink Elephants & Lemonade.......2007-06-26
Think about this - what other 48 year old do you know who can perform aerobic dancing, sing simultaneously, and hold a note, all while wearing a bikini! Well, I certainly don't know anyone like that, and what is perhaps most astounding is just how classy the entire act is, even through the admittedly sexually charged bits.
The best thing on this 2.5 hour extravaganza is "Erotica", a completely reworked version (in actuality, Madonna sings the original version of `Erotica' she intended for release - with the lyrics of a track called "You Thrill Me"). My favorite part is the last four-song segment, where Madonna introduces her `Disco' persona. Her backup dancers as ever, defy gravity and are good-looking to boot. One dancer in particular stands out - a skinny long haired young man who is as flexible as a rubber band. However, "Erotica" has never looked so good in any of its' avatars, and I thought this version left the studio recording light years behind - its that good.
This is also the first Madonna concert to feature so much dancing. Madonna actually dances frenetically to many numbers, including a highly stylized and choreographed routine with two female backup dancers to "Music". There is also a special feature segment that shows her practicing this - unbelievable. I have had so many friends who were dancers in their 20s who didn't move like this. I still cannot believe this is a woman pushing 50.
Above all, there is the music. Tracks that seemed weak on the "Confessions" studio album, are made more accessible here. "Get Together" which I always used to skip, becomes a keeper. Similarly, weak track "Jump" is actually listenable on this one. Some of the more interesting portions of the concert involve Madonna's friend "Isaac" (who even wears a turban at one point). I thought this was Mirwais, but I could be wrong. Unfortunately, when she tries to make this concert `spiritual' or `soulful', it begins to unravel. They should have just kept this entire concert upbeat and energetic.
No review would be complete without telling you the downsides of the product, and there are three here. One is the godawful version of "Isaac" that Madonna tries to pull off here. This is a poor second cousin to "Frozen", with a similar `Eastern' tinge to it (I could see where they were going with this one, but it just doesn't work). This is followed by a dreary rendition of "Drowned World" (possibly Madonna's greatest ballad), which is followed by the hideous "Paradise (Not for Me)" (which is a beautiful song, but Isaac and Madonna ruin it beyond recognition here). This should be seen to be believed. How they could massacre a simple melody like this is beyond me.
However, we're back in action with singalong versions of "Hung Up" (including a four minute shout-out/call-back to the audience where Madonna asks them to repeat "Time goes back, so slowly" in her infamously fake British accent), and "Sorry" (which has Madonna kissing one of her female dancers, and some amount of funky dancing).
Madonna sometimes exits the stage every now and then, whereupon her dancers take the spotlight and dance to a variety of Madonna collages and flash images. This is not necessarily a good thing - in fact, its downright boring. However, the `special features' on the disc, aren't really special at all. In fact, they are at best footage of Madonna rehearsing, with a tremendous amount of time spent on her dancers waxing about her in French accents ("I can't believe I'm really here", "Oh My God, I'm dancing for Madonna!", and "This is a once in a lifetime experience!" etc.). Nothing out of the ordinary, and certainly nothing to write home about. But the great thing about these is watching Madonna actually dance. Without the makeup she sports on stage, she looks much, much older, and quite tired and haggard, but who can blame her, poor thing?
All in all, this is a must-buy, even if you're not really a Madonna fan. I'm sort of neutral about her, but if I consider that I like this much more than some of the Rock DVDs I have in my collection, then Madonna must have done something right. This is a fabulous, colorful and very entertaining concert, and no one I know has ever regretted purchasing this. Yes, its very `pink' and targeted towards a gay audience in so many subliminal ways, but no matter what your demographic, theres no way you can not enjoy the sheer fun this is. Get it now!
A celebration of a great comeback!.......2007-06-26

Recorded during their controversial 2003 tour, these two discs romp through an ample sampling of hits ("Wide Open Spaces," "There's Your Trouble," "Goodbye Earl," "Travelin' Soldier") as well as beloved album cuts ("Hello Mr. Heartache," "Some Days You Gotta Dance"). Twangy and cheeky all the way, the group rides an energy wave that continues through the stunning two-song encore of "Top of the World" and "Sin Wagon." Yet as powerful as the full-band performances are, the trio's true essence emerges during the acoustic moments--"White Trash Wedding," "Ready to Run," and "Lil' Jack Slade" among them--as well as the Texas shuffler "Hello Mr. Heartache." Some acts might have tried to gloss over a flap like the one Natalie Maines's anti-Bush administration remarks caused. Not here. Patty Griffin's "Truth No. 2" (from the Chicks' Home album) faces that issue head-on. But beyond the political tempests--and Music Row's still-bruised feelings over their contractual firefights with their label--this collection affirms one truth: the Chicks remain the best hope of bringing country into the 21st century with postmodern vitality and its traditions intact. --Rich KienzleCustomer Reviews:

Their tour had an army of additional musicians in support.
They sure can sing, though. The harmonies are unbelievably good.
If you are interested in a really good all female group who are excellent musicians and singers who sing a mix of traditional tunes and original tunes, check out UNCLE EARL. Their newest release is produced by former Led Zep bassist John Paul Jones, who has developed a fascination with traditional American music, even going as far as learning how to play the fiddle. Uncle Earl's latest is titled Waterloo Tennessee and is available right here on Amazon.

This 2002 concert is a great showcase for the Chicks. Listening to them on this CD, I feel like I am in the middle of the concert in the best seats in the house.
The production quality is great. The chicks are in fine form and this CD concert is a proof that the grammies wins are no fluke.

Christopher Titus is one of the best comics of our time. Don't miss this album.
Hilarious.......2007-05-27
To say that this is funny, is a gross understatement. The humor points out several important points of life, but in a way that is funny.
My only complaint is the language. This should only be listened to by adults, and you should be aware that there is some swearing. It is not a swear-fest, where every sentence is filled with obscenities, but there is enough foul language, that I would not want any of my children to listen to it.

It's a delirious treat, watching the full weight of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds open their November 2004 Brixton Academy gig with the menacing thwack of "Hiding All Away," as they do on the first of two DVDs in this live mega-set. They're swept away, Cave and his mates--Warren Ellis and Mick Harvey and the keyboardists and drummers and background singers. Feet stomp, hair flies, the sounds wallop. Without Blixa Bargeld for the first time, the Bad Seeds have a gospel-tinged bigness, an urgent intensity. The multicamera DVD shots are brilliant, the sound impeccable. Of course that last bit is all that matters on the pair of CDs that round out this set, and they sound phenomenal. Cave knows drama, from the lyrics to the vocal bellow to the full-on unrelenting orchestral power of a guitar, a bass, a violin, a couple keyboards, and a couple drummers--backed by four ingeniously true-to-form backup vocalists. If you've even a passing interest in the ecstasy of live musical abandon, this is a necessary indulgence. If you're a Cave fan, you won't be able to get enough. --Andrew BartlettAlbum Description

An Antti Keisala Comment: These Are But Wild And Whirling Words.......2007-03-31
You can either watch this DVD or listen to the live recording provided, especially "Hiding All Away", to get some sense of how amazingly and terrifyingly intense his presence really is - priestly, delirious, furiously energetic, phlegmatically ironic. Add to this the self-referentially comic side and the soulfully introspective; there are moments that define whole stations of emotions. "O Children" - not available on the DVD - is what an opener should be: a miniature life in itself; bold and contextually unfolding, vibrantly merging into the rest of the concert in a way that makes it constantly referrable, its presence residing over the whole record. This song is worth the purchase alone, yet what a treat are we for: there's a lot of new material, barely no "No Shall We Part" except for "God Is In the House" and some older treats: the triptych consisting of "The Ship Song", "The Weeping Song" and "Stagger Lee" (the first two from "The Good Son" and the third from "Murder Ballads", respectively) is a high climax.
The second DVD offers some artful extras, an example of high showmanship. I recommend you get the set that includes both the two DVDs as well as the double-album; they're not from exactly the same concerts, so it gives room to dream. So heartily recommended.
With best regards,
AK

The Living Room Tour, a live double disc named for its spare instrumentation, arrives so well coated in the Hall of Famer's particular brand of populist, listener-loving pixie dust you half expect it to leave a glowing, sticky residue on your fingers. Radiating the maternal warmth and honesty that translated Tapestry into a 25-million seller, King sprawls comfortably (aided, probably, by the couches and coffee tables hauled onstage for these shows) into favorites like "Jazzman," "So Far Away," and "I Feel the Earth Move." Older songs made famous by other artists, including "Take Good Care of My Baby," "One Fine Day," and "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," get an unfortunate, yet effective, slice-and-dice medley treatment. Carole King devotees won't find a lot of reviews that overlook the minor vocal flaws on this latest outing, but a barrel of bum notes couldn't keep the 63-year-old legend from connecting with an audience. The intimacy-to-the-masses approach of this tour suits the early-'70s earth mother material best, and intermingled with a few recent songs, the mix soothes, reassures, and satisfies. If you haven't listened to King in a while, it's not too late, baby. --Tammy La Gorce

Album Description
No one performs Carole King's classic songs better than she does. King draws from her entire, 40-plus year career, from her early hits with Gerry Goffin to her Tapestry-era masterworks, from recent recordings to overlooked gems. Disc one of The Living Room Tour ends with a show-stopping medley of songs King wrote with Goffin, songs that became the soundtrack of a generation in the 1960s. The album offers two new tunes: the opening "Welcome To My Living Room" and the tender "Loving You Forever," a duet co-written with guitarist / vocalist Gary Burr, which opens the second set. She is also joined by album co-producer and guitarist Rudy Guess, who together with Burr, add vocals and textured acoustic touches on many of the album's songs.Customer Reviews:
You don't realize how much Carole King has influenced the scene til you listen to her sing her own work.......2007-06-23
I listen to this music and think how many moments has her music been with us even subconsciously? "Pleasant Valley Sunday" reminds me so much of a neighborhood I once lived in with the garage band down the street and the lawn-of-the-month wars between the neighbors on either side of me.
Oh yeah, and I heard "I'm into something good" the first time I saw my first crush. And "Natural Woman" was my favorite song for years...just how many artists have covered this song?
This is the music a lot of us grew up with. I believe it will be around for a long time, but honestly, nobody does it like Carole King.

I guess my point here is really a question? Why didn't they film this? If they did.........please release it on DVD.
Nobody DID it better................2007-06-12
A story is told that may be apocryphal, since it has been told about more than one lady...someone goes up to an aging Opera Diva and says "Madame ****, it must be terrible for such a great singer to realize you've lost your voice". The wise lady replies "Oh, no...what would be terrible would be if I DIDN'T realize it".
Listining to this album made me think of watching Willie Mays play for the Mets in 1973, or of the last few times Arnold Palmer played The Masters. Oh, the songs are as great as ever, and Carole's ability to connect with an audience remains fabulous. And, disc two does sound better than disc one. Still................
If you're a BIG FAN [like me] who just has to have all of Carole King's records, get this. It does have some wonderful moments. But if you only want one, or if you're just discovering the voice of my generation, get "Tapestry". THAT album will remain perfect forever.

Wait, we forgot about the Bramletts. They never got the recognition they deserved, on their own. Bonnie's vocals were as soulful as anything you could ask for. And Delaney, while perhaps not quite so standout as his beautiful companion, could emote pretty well himself.
You will play this, and play it again, and play it again.
Delaney, Bonnie & Friends, The Rest Of The Story.......2007-04-08
Delaney & Bonnie and Friends was a group started by Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett, which featured the elite session artists of the day, such as Carl Radle, Jim Price, Bobby Keys, Rita Coolidge, Bobby Whitlock, Jim Gordon, Leon Russell, Dave Mason and revolving guest lead guitarists which would include Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Duane Allman and even some appearances with Jimi Hendrix.
Prior to their marriage and collaboration, Delaney had been a well-regarded LA session musician, and Bonnie had the distinction of being the only white Ikette, performing with the Ike and Tina Turner Revue. In later years, she turned to acting, appearing most notably on the TV shows "Fame" and "Roseanne", under her new name of Bonnie Sheridan.
In 1970, after Delaney and Bonnie & Friends, Eric Clapton formed Derek and the Dominos, with Delaney and Bonnie members, Carl Radle, Bobby Whitlock, and Jim Gordon as his rhythm section.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I just wanted everyone to know the whole story and the different cast members one might have seen while they were touring. Also notable; is that many of the Derek & The Dominos survivors, ended up becoming Leon Russell's "Shelter People". During this same era, Leon Russell and Bonnie wrote "Super Star" (Originally titled 'Groupie') and went to #1 by Karen Carpenter. Also written during this era, Leon Russell and Eric Clapton's song "Blues Power".
I have had this recording in 8 track, LP, cassette and now compact disc. One reviewer was harsh about the CD quality. IMHO every form I've ever heard, this concert made me WELL PLEASED.

VERY DISAPPOINTED.......2007-05-26
Blown away.......2007-04-29
The second CD is the 41 epic tune, 'six degrees of inner turbulence. A song about, well, the inner turbulence of life. There is a spot around the 15 minute mark where I find it too dissonant, and there is an instrument in the orchestra that is flat, but this is a very weak criticism for a absolute work of art including the fantastic 'solitary shell' and powerful climax.
The find the 3rd CD ok but not anywhere near the first 2. Octivarium takes too long to get going and 'Metropolis' starts out so promising but the wonderful keyboard riff that kicks off the song is drowned out in the dissonance.
The keys are great, the guitar playing is great, the percussion is great and the vocals are out of this world outstanding.
One of the top 3 live albums off all time on my list along with Iron Maiden's "Live after Death" and Rush's "All the Worlds a Stage."
A fantastic live recording.......2007-04-06

The whole group do a great job (like always) and the orchestra does fantastic following the whole six degrees album (side 2) and octivarium and metropolis and more! They do their classics great!
