    5 out of 5 stars Exactly what I needed.......2007-01-26

Planet Chant is comforting on a busy day and inspiring during yoga exercise. The music is spiritual and uplifting and makes a dark day bright. I'm very satisfied.

    4 out of 5 stars Intriguing.......2005-03-25

Planet Chant is a moving an hypnotic exploration of the possibilities of the human voice, which includes British, Russian, Tibetan, Bulgarian, South African and Native American contribution.
Chanting has been practiced as a spiritual tradition for centuries, and virtually every culture, past and present, has chanted in some form or another.
The chants on Planet Chant are performed by some of the most gifted proponents of the genre including the Qawwali master Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan from Pakistan, Ladysmith Black Mambazo from South Africa, contemporary Native American singers Primeaux and Mike, Indian chanteuse Sheila Chandra, The Orthodox Bulgarian choir Angelite and the east-west styling of Krishna Das.

5 out of 5 stars Very Spiritually Soothing.......2004-02-01

Beautiful CD! My favorites are: Great Litany by Angelite, Polorum Regina by Saraband,Siguga Isiphambano by Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Confirmation by Oberton-Choir Dusseldorf.

All the songs are spiritually enlightening, uplifting, soothing.

I am not letting this one go! Perfect as a Relaxation or for just 'pondering'.

4 out of 5 stars This series deserves better.......2002-03-18

Triloka had put out the wonderful series "Trance Planet", which I had to own all volumes for, but Planet Chant really left alot to be desired. In places it was far too "techno" for the subject matter. If you are expecting indigenous chants and slices of life from places around the globe such as the label implies, its best to look elsewhere. It is a good CD, but not one that is memorable in the way that the other Trance Planet series CD's are.

4 out of 5 stars Good sampler of poppy chants; grating if overplayed.......2001-07-25

This CD is a compilation of different artists that utilize "chants" in their music. There are twelve separate artists (or artist pairs) represented on "Planet Chant." Some of the chants on the CD are religious in nature; others are not. The compilation's producer has included a short explanation about chanting and brief summaries on how chanting is used by each of the artists on the CD. Overall, I find the songs on this CD evoke a peaceful, meditative feeling. I have even had some success in meditating by chanting along with the Krishna Das and Oberton-Chor Dusseldorf pieces on the CD. However, if "Planet Chant" is overplayed, I find it to be somewhat grating. Perhaps it's because of the love-hate relationship I have with meditation (and all religious/spiritual beliefs that I perceive as seeking to transcend rather than confront and feel emotions). Usually the mood for me to listen to a CD like this is "I am anxious and nothing else is working so what can I do (or not do) to help me let go of my anxiety?" This CD sometimes works on those occasions.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful collection of devotional music from all over.......2001-02-17

This is a truly fine collection of devotional music from all over the world. The title gives the impression that it might be a bunch of throat-singing Tibetan drone music, but that is not the case at all!! In fact I would call most of the music "spiritual" rather than real "chant". Somehow, "chant" to me doesn't conjue up music that is highly melodic.... The selection here has something for everyone, and includes a lot of interesting pairings of Eastern and Western musicians, such as traditional Eastern msuic (Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan/Michael Brooks), a Western-style Eastern chant (Krishna Das), a Tibetan chant with musical accompanyment (Lama Gyurme/Jean Phillipe Rykiel), and a female Tibetan artiste (Choying Drolma/Steve Tibbetts). There is an ambient vocal drone by Sheila Chandra, and soft percussion meditation music by Jim Donovan. Primeaux and Mike give one of their unique vocal hymns from the North American Peyote Church, while Ladysmith Black Mambazo provides an Afrrican song of praise. The remaining pieces offer liturgical music with male and female voices (Angelite and the Oberton-Chor Dusseldorf). My favorite piece on the CD is the Polorum Regina, by Saraband. All-in-all, this is a really fun CD, and the music wil really give you a spiritual lift to get you through the day.
