About the Artist
Lupe Olivarez

Following the lead established by Carlos Santana in the 70’s and Los Lobos in the 80’s, Lupe Olivarez is poised on the horizon to lead chicano rock into the twenty first century. Like his illustrious predecessors, he is breaking new ground with raw edged bilingual rock. The diverse backgrounds of his songs, and stage presence contribute to his unique sound.

Lupe Olivarez, formed his band to play his own music, and his individual writing style is complemented by his personal performance. His personal technique has coalesced into the critically acclaimed band that has become so popular in its hometown, Houston.

While his rise may seem meteoric to outside observers, it is in fact the result of years of hard work in various “proving ground’ bands. The current “overnight success” began years ago when, with The Basics, he recorded his first CD “ Sonido Basico”. Soon after that The Basics were chosen to appear on Buscando Estrellas, the Latin version of Star Search, broadcast on Univision and seen by more than 4.5 million people internationally. The Houston Press voted The Basics “Best Rock Band” and “Band to Watch”. At home in Houston, the accolades continued to pile on. Over the last seven years with the release of his second CD, “Cruzado” he has enjoyed opening for such greats as Joe Ely, The Arc Angels, Eric Johnson, Ian Moore, Los Lobos, and Carlos Santana. Currently Lupe Olivarez is touring in support of his latest CD “Sin Miedo” (Without Fear).

8 SONGS???!! That's it. #1 "Ella lo sabe" is good and #8 "El Remedio" is GREAT. The rest is "okay". Where's the rest of the music?

THIS CD IS ON FIRE! What is Emilio TALKING ABOUT???.......2004-06-08

The tracks are hot! My favorite is "El Remedio" - has a hint of a Carlos Vives vibe to it. On some level the overlay of vocals and guitar rhythms on this CD remind me of Juanes' music. But at the same time it's definitely a great departure from Juanes' music. I love Michael's CDs because he's always changing and evolving his sound - always making that extra effort to do better instead of resting on his laurels. I heard that he's going to re-release this CD to include the salsa and reggaeton versions of his songs. I know some of my friends were disappointed that there were no pure salsa tracks on the CD. It took them a couple listens to adjust to that change. I know Michael will go very far with this CD!

LOVED IT!.......2004-06-03

An amazing CD! As usual he is very innovative and shows his great artistic ability! I know some fans are disappointed that he does not have salsa on this CD - but the CD is going to be soon re-released to include the salsa versions. There is NOT one bad song on this CD though - the only bad thing you can say is there's no salsa music on it. Michael's vocal ability is unmatched - the ballads are beautiful. The fast songs make you want to get up and move! I LOVE IT! Can't wait to buy the re-released version also! I heard the Salsa & reggaeton versions are HOT!

My guess is the reason why Michael did a CD initially without Salsa is because he has other interests musically. Also, salsa is not doing well in most markets - people are not buying salsa music too much anymore. It's nice to be completely faithful to one style of music - but to do it at the expense of one's career is stupid. That's why people like Victor Manuelle, etc. are adding other elements in their music aside from straight salsa also.

Un Michael Stuart con miedo...............2004-05-13

Este disco marca el regreso de Michael despues de 4 años de ausencia y nos deja mas de lo mismo, un Michael sin evolucion pero para ser honesto con unos buenos arreglos musicale. Michael no quiero ser adivino pero si tu no promocionas este disco como se debe, creo que vas al fracaso y seria una lastima para un buen artista. Estoy seguro que Universal no le hara otro disco.

The one to get!.......2002-09-20

I just listened to this CD again, 7 years after it was released and it is still a favorite and a beautifully made piece of work. Although "Formas de amor" has been compared to Ace of Bases' "I saw the sign", the comparison NEVER entered my mind. "Formas.." is much more mature and not one to have you screaming if you hear it one more time!! "Malos Pasos" is just wonderful with it's slow haunting melody, and "Te llevo en mi mente" will have you dancing around the floor. I believe that some artist, if lucky, are able to produce a work described as their finest. I dare say in my opinion, this is it!

ace of base en espanol?.......1998-07-18

"Formas de Amor" is a great moody pop song, when it came out is was an obviouis copy of Ace of Base's "The Sign." It was SUCH a huge hit; it still brings good memories. This album is a commercial pop album. No rough edges, which in itself is almost a flaw. "Regresa" is a very nice subdued poppy song with a cliche mild house tempo in the back. One can't help but smile. Other songs are a little more crass, like the abrupt "Eo Eo." Calo keeps doing a good job of keeping up with latest styles, but never invents a style of their own...which in the end will in itself become their style (see Madonna). This is a nice adult dance-pop LP for having a good time.
