About the Artist
With the release of 'Cuidado Mano' early critical acclaim has elevated Giorgio Pretti to artistic excellence on par with some of the world's greatest international recording stars. Giorgio has fused an ingenious blend of African, Brazilian, Latin and American influences into an unforgettable alchemy of pop, jazz, rock and soulful balladry. With a new band made up of some of LA's best session players and a state-of-the-art studio production team, Giorgio is ready to re-emerge onto the world stage with a seminal album that heralds him as one of our finest entertainers.

In the title cut 'Cuidado Mano' he embraces a styling similar to current Santana. The song has not only a headbobbingly infectious hook with a sober message, but is an homage to the multi-culturality of dance. As the album progresses you hear Giorgio's roots in traditional songwriting, even as he enlarges the genre. An English interpretation of the Latin standard 'Sabor a Mi', here entitled 'And You Should Know', presents the listener with an unsentimental sensitivity. Giorgio's own songs reflect a bold eclecticism and populist, often spiritual, appeal cunningly balanced with a unique originality. The songs move seamlessly from American pop to traditional bolero, from California reggae to African spiritualism, from simple guitar accompaniment to a battery of percussionists backing a burning orchestra before a live audience.

Hailing from Rio de Janeiro, Giorgio Pretti has spent much of his life in Los Angeles. Giorgio's family came to America in the late 60s to take advantage of better health care and education. His passion for music emerged while recovering from the crippling effects of polio. Confined to bed-rest due to various orthopedic surgeries, he received recordings as gifts featuring musical greats. Among them was music of fellow countryman Antonio Carlos Jobim, The Temptations, Ben E. King, Thelonius Monk, Jimi Hendrix, The Beach Boys and The Beatles. These influences are heard today in his vocal delivery, the exotic rhythmic inflections and immense variety of songs that comprise his Portuguese, English, French, Spanish and Italian language repertoires. By the time he had reached high school, where he excelled in sports even with an infirmity that required crutches, Giorgio was armed with a genius for composition and was writing songs and playing with older musicians. His talents became notorious and he became a sought after player.

Still an emerging guitarist, singer and composer, Giorgio distinguished himself on the LA music scene by the late '70s as an outstanding front man and bass player with Brazz Jazz, a Brazilian dance orchestra. The well-known group performed throughout LA, with shows at the Cinegrill, the Hollywood Paladium, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and for audiences that included megastars like Rod Stewart, Joni Mitchell, Elton John and Stephen Stills. He shared the bill with some of the day's hottest names in music including Tito Puente, Spyro Gyra, and Hiroshima. He formed his own band, The Boys From Brazil, which performed at the Los Angeles Street Scene and other well-known venues in and around LA. The 12-member ensemble was awarded Best Latin Jazz Band by Music Connection Magazine, further cementing Giorgio's reputation. Pretti kept evolving. He started 'The Altar Boys' band and released an album to rave notices, but it was his leadership of The New Tuscaninis that drew attention to Giorgio’s innovative songwriting.

In addition to creating a following at live shows in his adopted home of America, Giorgio was active abroad and busy in the studio becoming a producer. The band-titled 'Altar Boys' album was released in 1984 and followed up with 'Find My Way Back Home' in 1986. In 1988 he began entering and winning international music competitions, starting with a first place 'People's Choice Award' in Curasao. He has since entered and placed first in eleven of 17 international competitions. He is the f

Product Description
With 'Cuidado Mano' Brasilian Beat Productions' Giorgio Pretti releases his third album in a decade. Nearly four years in the making, the album mixes Brasilian and Latin pop, jazz, samba and rock into a romantic blend, unique to the world. Such comparisons as Santana, Paul Simon, Jobim and James Taylor testify to the eclectic and soulful nature of the music.

The title song started off as a 15-second music cue for a film in a scene revolving around the gang underworld of LA. When the film's producers heard it they asked if it could be developed further which eventually led to a full blown studio version, and now the lead single, soon to be heard around the world. The rest of the album comes from a mix of studio sessions and takes from shows recorded before a live audience in Hollywood. Some of LA's best Latin musicians came together for several of the cuts heard here and are augmented by a select group of band members and specialists. It also features a translated version of the Latin standard 'Sabor a Mi', interpreted by Giorgio with his production partner/guitarist Michael Sena. As far as is known, it is the first time the song has been done in English. This album stands up to repeated listenings as it takes one on a musical journey from the Mediterranean, through America, Jamaica and down to Rio, where the native jazz and African strains that vibrate through Brasilian culture still ring with the birth of new musical fusions.
