Mambo: Music of Expression CD

Editorial Reviews

Product Description
With its variety of foreign influences, the mambo, which means "conversation with the gods", is a Cuban-originated rhythm with a rich history. Distinctively different in its beat and with more syncopation than the rhumba, this Afro-Cuban dance genre was quite popular during the 1940s and became part of the big band sound of the 1950s. The mambo is currently enjoying a renewed popularity due to the number of films featuring this beloved dance. That enthusiasm is beautifully reflected here in the Sugo Music Latin Rhythms Series.

3 out of 5 stars Some Mambo and (Lots of) Other Music.......2007-02-02

I was disappointed by this CD. There are a couple of songs you could actually dance a mambo to, but there are other tempos mixed in as well. There is some rumba, chacha and some songs that are too fast for true mambo dancing. Not bad overall, but if you are in the mood for real mambo music , get you hands on some Tito Puente or Eddie Palmieri.

I heard this CD in my local Hallmark Store and loved it. They didn't have anymore, but I knew I had to have it. The music reminds me of when I was growing up in the 50's especially Cuban Pete--I first heard it on the "I Love Lucy" show, Desi sang it once. This collection is of all the best songs in Mambo music by several artists, it's really a must have. I am so happy to have found it here in Amazon.com (other places didn't have it or it was too expensive). If you love Mambo music please try it and you too will be hooked!! Thank you Amazon.com!!
