Marley's Best.......2006-11-18
In my mind, Bob Marley has great songs, but generally inconsistant albums. This is the exception to the rule. Bob's angry at the state of the human race here, and he wants you to know. And people tend to make good music while angry. This is no exception. Pretty much every song is classic: Get Up, Stand Up (which got even better virtually ever time he played it live); I Shot the Sheriff; and Burnin' are the best-known, and best. Also check out the politically-charged, pro-revolutionary Small Axe; Duppy Conqueror, with great harominies; Pass It On; and the call for unity One Foundation. I'd call Hallelujah Time the weakest of the bunch. But as for the rest? It's all good. BUY IT! (For the record, Natty Dread and Rastaman Vibration are pretty good too, Live! and Legend, greatest hits comp or not, are indespensible).
Album by The Wailers, not just Bob Marley.......2006-04-23
I find it fascinating how everyone seems to forget that the band is The Wailers (AS IT IS ON THE COVER) and not just a solo endeavor. Incredible album by THE WAILERS! One reviewer even states it as "HIS ultimate work"! This was the last time The Wailers were just that before corporate recording companies decided to put Bob Marley out in front.
Masterpiece.......2006-01-12
This is not "Bob Marley and the Wailers." That's an anachronism. Bob Marley and the Wailers didn't come into existence until after the breakup of the original Wailers. This is the masterpiece of that original band. Marley's solo work was brilliant, of course, but it's a different kettle of fish from what you get here. Here you get the vocal and spiritual harmonies of three great musicians -- Marley, Tosh, and Bunny Wailer. The songs, many of them recorded years earlier without the sound quality they deserved, are beautiful, soulful, spiritual, and righteous (I can't deal with Scratch Perry's brilliant but rather low-fi productions of the time, so the pre-Island stuff is out for me.) If you get this, and also the deluxe issue of "Catch a Fire" with the original Jamaican mixes (sans Chris Blackwell's cheesy overdubs -- you should hear how pure and amazing "Stir It Up" is without that d*mn synth), you've got all the Wailers you need, and two amazing documents from the fountainhead of reggae.
Incendiary stuff.......2005-09-25
Rather like the Beatles, Bob Marley's best album is whichever one you happen to be listening to. Burnin' was the second album Bob Marley made for Chris Blackwell's Island label (in conjunction with Tuff Gong), which, like the first, came out in 1973. It's a well named album as it is incendiary from start to finish with both he and Peter Tosh at their most revolutionary. They were at home playing much of the material as they had previously recorded several of the songs in versions produced in recent years by Lee Perry, so the performances were relaxed, assured and deadly, and several feature Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, who were both soon to strike out on their own.
Two of the bonus tracks are unreleased out-takes but Reincarnated Souls had been the B-side of Concrete Jungle (lifted from Catch A Fire). This 2001 edition has now been superceded by a 2CD version with the band (without Bunny) recorded live in Leeds on the second disc
Pass It On.......2005-02-21
This is the last album by the trio who started out as the Wailers. After this album tensions amoung the original Wailers (Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer)proved to be too much and they broke up. But this album released in 1973 was the Wailers greatest work. the trio prefectly compliment each other on the classic I Shot the Sheriff and the fine Get Up, Stand Up. On Burnin' unlike on Catch A Fire, each Wailer gets a few of their own songs performed even though Bob Marley still takes many of the lead vocals. Burnin' is mainly some of the band's older songs re-worked with some new tunes that are quite catchy. All the songs have excellent harmonies and phat instrumentation, and to no one's suprise, the Barrett brother lay down some great grooves. This album presents the Wailers at the peak of their powers. No real music fan should be without this album, and if you want more Wailers, check out the Burnin' Deluxe Edition and you'll have a chance to hear the Wailers live at Leeds in England and you will be amazed at the vibe this band gives off in concert. This is one of those albums that if you don't listen to it before you die, you'll really be missing out. Make sure you add this to your music collection, even if you aren't a reggae fan.

Awesome CD!.......2007-01-18
I got this CD for my husband for Christmas, he loved it and plays it all of the time. The package arrived promptly, a plus during Christmas time! Thanks Amazon, I look foward to doing business with you again.
Burnin' Sky.......2006-08-15
Bad Company was a favorite during my early 20's and I always wanted this (back then ) album. So now I purchased the CD with one of my favorite Bad Company songs' "Burnin' Sky".
ANOTHER EXCELLENT ALBUM BY THE NEXT LED ZEPPELIN.......2005-08-29
When I first this album in December 1985, I thought this was recorded after STRAIGHT SHOOTER and before RUN WITH THE PACK (This album had a more commercial sound to it.) because the music sounds like the first two albums. Anyway, the intro thundering and lighting is an outstanding sound effect for the title track that features excellent vocals, drum playing, bass guitar riffs, and the multi-layered guitar at the beginning and end. The raindrops from MORNING SUN that features excellent vocals, flute solo by ex-KING CRIMSON MEL COLLINS, and the 12-string guitar is also an outstanding effect that follows the repeated thunder at the end of the title track. LEAVING YOU is an great song with excellent guitar riffs, and LIKE WATER that features excellent vocals, organ, rhythm and slide guitar riffs is probably my favorite song on this album. KNAPSACK sounds like a song that was played in cave, but I do not like PAUL'S voice on the group written EVERYTHING I NEED; it sounds like the 1950s style of singing. Meanwhile, HEARTBEAT sounds like MICK RALPHS AND PAUL RODGERS playing harmony lead guitar. Plus, PEACE OF MIND that features excellent sounding lead guitar, harmony vocals, and organ and PASSING TIME are great piano ballads. TOO BAD (The album version and the anthology cd say that MICK RALPHS wrote this song, but the original and remastered cd versions say that PAUL RODGERS wrote this song) is an excellent guitar rock song, and I love the way PAUL AND MICK play guitar on MAN NEEDS WOMAN that also features excellent sax by MEL COLLINS. The closing group written song MASTERS OF CEREMONY features excellent reverse drum effects, distorted vocals, the sax, organ, bass guitar, and quiet lead guitar riffs.
Some unique tunes from the Company.......2005-07-30
I'm in the process of carefully building an appreciation for classic rock, so I'm still new to Bad Company. However, they've become my favorite group. So maybe my perspective will be useful to somebody. I found Burnin Sky to have quite a few inspired songs. They're catchy and different, but certainly not a departure from the original sounds and thoughtful lyrics that made the band famous before this album. The flow from the title track to 'Morning Sun' kicks of the album well, and the gritty guitar in 'Leaving You' is great. Paul Rodgers probably couldn't write a bad lyric if he wanted to. Then 'Everything I Need' mixes several styles but still holds out, which is impressive. 'Passing Time', again, has great lyrics and a good beat. 'Too Bad' is one of my favorites, I'm surprised it wasn't a hit. 'Man Needs Woman' has good rhythm too, and just as much power. Suffice it to say you'll like at least a few of the tracks here. Give Burnin Sky a good chance.
4.5 stars - A forgotten Bad Company gem.......2005-05-22
Burnin' Sky (1977.) Bad Company's fourth album.
Although the first release from Bad Company, their 1974 debut album, was a classic rock masterpiece and is appropriately hailed as such, subsequent releases from the band were not as well-received. This was a shame, since they were nothing less in the quality department. All of albums that the band released with the classic Rodgers, Ralphs, Burrell, and Kirke formation were excellent, They had attempted to broaden their horizons many a time, most notably at first on their 1976 release Run With The Pack. This worked well, in my opinion, since Pack is my favorite Bad Company album. How does the follow-up, 1977's Burnin' Sky measure up? Read on to find out.
To put in the simplest terms possible, this is the Bad Company album that time forgot. Although it is an excellent album, it never achieved the success that earlier releases from the band did - a shame since this really was some great music. There is only one hit on this album, and that's the title track. Fortunately though, the lone hit present on this album is one of the band's best songs ever recorded. It's straight-up classic hard rock that is readily accessable to fans of the band. The rest of the album, though, is what will make you love or hate it. Like the previous album, the band attempts to broaden its horizons. The results are solid, no questions asked, but are different enough from past releases from the band that casual fans may be turned off by the shift in sounds. There really aren't any weakenesses on this album, but I won't deny that it's an aquired taste, and not one one you'll get into overnight. If you listen to this album with an open mind, chances are it will end up impressing you. No, this isn't one of Bad Company's best albums, but it is a solid release from the band nonetheless. Any big-time fan should buy it.
THE TEXT IN THIS PARAGRAPH REFERS EXCLUSIVELY TO THE REMASTERED VERSION OF THE ALBUM RELEASED IN 1994. In 1994, the record company remastered and rereleased Bad Company's albums. The remastering on these songs sounds great, certainly better than the original 1990 CD issues. However, in a lot of ways, these reissues were a wasted opportunity. For example, there was an assortment of rare tracks from this era that would have made fine bonus tracks (many of these later surfaced on the band's hits compilation, The Original Bad Company Anthology.) Likewise, in some cases, the band could have fit multiple albums onto a single disc. For example, the band's self-titled debut and this album, Straight Shooter, will fit on a single disc. Doing things like these would have made this remasters series a better value to the consumers, but I guess record companies are more concerned with profits. Oh, well. That doesn't change the way I feel about the album itself.
Should you buy Burnin' Sky? If you're a Bad Company fan, by all means add this one to your collection. If you're just getting into the band, or you just consider yourself a casual fan, stick with their first two albums or a hits compilation (preferably the Anthology and not the subpar 10 from 6, which overlooks the Burnin' Sky album completely.) Burnin' Sky IS a good album, but it's no place to start if you're new to the band - that's what the debut is for.

Bob Marley & The Wailers ' Burnin' [2 CD Deluxe Edition] '
Customer Reviews:
Even if you have the original get this for the 2nd disc.......2006-03-11
I did not have the original so this was an easy decision to make. My understanding is that Burnin' was the last wailers release to include Peter Tosh. Serious Bob fans will want to add this 2 cd deluxe set to their collection. Not only is it crisp and clear but the band is tight and focused - especially true on the live selections (disc 2). The remastering effort is excellent. The first disc makes you feel like you are standing in the studio with the band and the second makes you feel like you're in the audience.
About the live disc: the band is on top of their game here. It's a tight show that features excellent versions from the Burnin' album.
If you're new to Bob you might want to start with Exodus (or at least make Exodus part of your collection at some point) but experienced fans will not go wrong with this 2 cd set.
hot reggae.......2005-03-12
This album is one of the best I've heard! The live album is incredible with such energy and great harmonies from Bob, Bunny, and Peter. They WERE the Wailers, the originals. The beats are hot with funky guitar effects. WELL WORTH THE MONEY! If you missed catching these guys live, this album takes you there.
Hallelujah Time!.......2005-02-22
1973 was a monumental year for the original Wailers. A mere six months after the release of their brilliant breakthrough album, Catch A Fire, the group actually managed to top themselves with Burnin', arguably the greatest reggae album of all time. This album's most celebrated tunes, "Get Up, Stand Up" and "Sheriff" have certainly stood the test of time. But while they are, without question, worthy of their classic status, it is many of the lower profile tunes, in my opinion, that truly make Burnin' special. Take, for example, Bunny Wailer's two incredible contributions, "Hallelujah Time" and "Pass It On". His lyrics have rarely been more insightful and his voice more hauntingly beautiful than on these two cuts. And, while Peter Tosh only contributes a single song to this collection with "One Foundation", it is easly one of his finest both musically and lyrically. The Wailers' updates of classics recorded a few years earlier for Lee Perry, "Put In On", "Small Axe" and "Duppy Conqureror", are also stellar, if not necessarily superior to the originals. Finally, we have the dark, millitant anthem "Burnin' and Lootin'" and uplifting closing track "Rasta Man Chant" rounding out this amazing collection of songs.
This deluxe edition is certainly worth owning, even if you already have an original copy of Burnin' (in my case, a very worn out LP I purchased about 20 years ago). Featured as bonus tracks are two early sketches of songs Bunny would eventually re-cut for Black Heart Man: "Reincarnated Souls" and "The Opressed Song" as well as Tosh's classic "No Sympathy", which probably should have found its way onto Burnin' originally.
The real exciting news, however, is disc two, which features a concert recorded at Leed's University a short while before Bob, Bunny and Peter went their seperate ways. Bunny, as well as his tour replacement Joe Higgs, are unfortunately absent from this recording and, subsequently, so are the group's trademark three-part vocal harmonies. None the less, this is a great performance and a powerful reminder of how amazing this original lineup was. The sound quality is also vastly superior to the bootlegs I've heard.
This is truly the deluxe edition of an essential album and well worth your hard-earned money.
if you don't own this you need to go buy it now.......2004-12-14
This is the last album by the trio who started out as the Wailers. This album presents the Wailers at the peak of their powers. the second disc is unbelievable. The leeds show has been in circulation amoungst tape traders but not with the quality here. The leeds show is one of my favorite wailers shows, and is one of the last concerts marley played with tosh. It is well worth the money for this, and I would recommend this as a great introduction to the wailers sound, these 2 discs surpass legened by far.
An Astonishing Classic.......2004-12-03
"Burnin'" was the last album by the Wailers as a collective group, afterwhich Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer left the group to pursue solo careers and Marley reformed his group, calling it "Bob Marley & the Wailers" in 1974. The album shows the original three at their best, balancing lead vocals on several songs between Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer, and Peter Tosh. The album not only serves to further reveal Bob's soon-to-be legendary work, but also to show the talent of Bunny Wailer with his lead vocals on songs like "Hallelujah Time" and "Pass It On".
The album also shows Tosh taking lead with Marley on "One Foundation" and alongside Marley on "Get Up, Stand Up". The album's biggest gem, however, was "I Shot the Sheriff," soon to be made a favorite in the U.S. and the U.K. by rock artist Eric Clapton on his 1974 "451 Ocean Boulevard" album.
The deluxe edition also features a concert from the tour in Leeds, U.K. just one week before the Wailers broke up. (Bunny, however, was already absent, having refused to tour outside of Jamaica once and for all earlier that year. His temporary replacement, the Wailers' old vocal coach, Joe Higgs was also absent, quitting the tour after they completed their shows in the U.S.) 1973's "Burnin'" shows the original Wailers at their very best before their breakup and is a timeless classic for music fans everywhere, I can guarentee it.

How Do You Say Musically Perfect?.......2004-02-23
Dan was the most talented person in music and this best of type CD brings the real Dan out perfectly. All his hits are here as well as some excellent new stuff. The Love In Your Eyes should have been a #1 single and could be Dan's best song of all time.Whether you love pop, dance or rock grab this Cd because Dan could do it all and do it all well.Vertigo itself is worth the price of this CD!
Keep the Fire Burnin'.......2004-02-23
Dan Hartman's death in 1994 (see www.danhartman.com) was a tremendous loss to the music community. A singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Dan Hartman was one of the most talented individuals I have ever had the good fortune to listen to- and see perform Live... This CD is excellent- although it does not due justice to the amount of music Dan wrote, produced, and performed over the course of his lifetime. Keep The Fire Burnin'............
Disapointing Best Of..........2004-02-03
They should have gone with the original versions and not with those stupid remixes. Relight My Fire is the best example. I was not expecting to hear an Instumental/Remix version. Original versions would have given the listeners the real taste of his music.
One of the best CD's that I have bought in the last years!.......2001-06-14
This is an excellent CD, which contains his greatest hits of the 70's / 80's (some in remixed and longer versions) and some newer songs from the 90's. From the 70's are the more known hits like Instant replay or Relight my fire. My favourits are the well arranged monster versions of Indigo/Relight my fire (11 Min.) and Countdown/This is it (14 Min.) and of course the title song Keep the fire burnin' featuring Loleatta Hollaway (My God, that lady has a voice!). I really enjoy that CD and I can listen to it from the beginning to the end (77 Min.) without getting bored. Thanks to Dan Hartman, Sony records, amazon.de and my postman!
Oh, how I miss Dan Hartman.......2000-07-19
This CD is very good, not excellent. I wish he would have included some songs such as "Love Strong" and "Hands Down". If those cuts were on this CD, it would rate 5 stars, no doubt about it. Dan was the best at making "feel good" music that made you want to dance and party-hardy. The content showcases his endless musical talents and imagination. Cuts like "Living in America", "Vertigo/Relight My Fire", and "Instant Replay" are Dan Hartman at his best. We lost a musical giant when he left us, but thank god Dans' music lives on. Anyone needing a great dance/party CD can't miss with this one.

Lee Rocker's "The Best of".......2007-05-09
Love this CD! I've seen Lee Rocker and his band in person a few times in the LA area. After hearing them, I knew I had to purchase one of his CD's. I also purchased one for a friend who heard mine and liked his music so much, they wanted one too. It is great "feel-good" Rock-a-Billy music. I highly recommend this CD. You can't go wrong.

nitro burning funny daddy.......2007-05-21
setzertastic. Waht more can I say but Setzer at his best.
He's rockin again.......2007-03-16
This has a different sound for Setzer. A bit country-like but fun upbeat and makes one want to dance. He really does magic with that guitar!
Pure Raw Setzer.......2006-05-13
After reading all the other reviews I was wondering if I should make the purchase. Of course being a huge Setzer fan, I bought it to add to the collection. This cd is a must for any Setzer fan. The very first song (sixty years) blows you away. The first eight songs are very good. The next three are not typical Setzer but they are ok. Any Setzer fan will like this cd, plus you get the bonus track (luck Be A Lady) by the orchestra. That one track is worth the price of the cd.
Good but not his best effort.......2005-10-19
Simply put, Brian's music and voice sound "tired" on this collection. That's the best way I can describe it. Normally, his music is so energetic. Even some of his lyrics are a little "sappy". Don't get me wrong, there is some good stuff here and it pains me to only give it three stars. However, Ignition! is a tough act to follow!
I just keep trying and yet this one ain't working for me!.......2005-02-25
I am a Stray Cat fanboy from the start. I am a Setzer fanboy. I have bought every Stray Cats, Setzer, and BSO record that has ever come out. 68CBS rocked, this one just is not doing it for me. I can not put my finger on it but I had to force myself to put this one into the player...not since "Choo Choo Hot Fish" have I had that problem with a Cats or Setzer related CD. It is not garbage and it is better than most stuff that comes out these days but I am going to have to give this one a 3.

Burnin' the Roadhouse Down.......2007-03-09
I love this Album.I have played it many times since I purchased it.(And will continue to do so!)Highly recommended!
Steve made a great start on Capitol.......2005-08-30
After a long and successful career on other labels, it seemed at one point during the nineties that Steve's hit-making days were finished. Steve proved that this was not so by securing a contract with Capitol and recording three excellent albums of original material for them of which this was the first.
The title track, a fun duet with Garth Brooks, was no doubt expected to be the big hit from the album and it certainly opens the album in great style. However, it is the second track (Holes in the floor of heaven) that really caught the public imagination. This is a very sad death song of a type that is comparatively rare these days. Such songs were far commoner in the sixties - in pop music as well as country music.
Another outstanding track is the second duet on the album (What if it's you), this one being with Anita Cochran who also wrote the song. This duet also appeared on her debut album (Back to you).
Quite apart from the three tracks already mentioned, this album contains many other great songs including I don't know how to fix it, Big old empty house, Smoke from an old flame and A six pack to go.
This is an outstanding album by a man with one of the finest voices in country music.
Special Reasons.......2005-08-09
This cd contains a special song for our family. "Holes in the Floor of Heaven" was my grandmother's favorite song, so when she passed away in september 2004 we played it at her funeral. So we have bought multiple copies of this cd so that all of our family can share in the memories.
Besides this particular song there are lots of good songs on the cd. I listen to it regularly.
Steve, go back to your country roots please.......2004-08-26
Steve Wariner shows none of his superior talent on this album as he has with previous hits such as "All Roads Lead to You" and "You Can Dream of Me." Instead, we get smarmy, unbearably syrup like the insipid "Holes in the Floor of Heaven." The fact that songs like this win awards isn't a clue that the song is good: just how out of touch the C&W industry truly is to the fans. Nothing on this album is really memorable or will have the staying power of his prior hits. Buy Steve's Ultimate Collection instead.

The Diva.......2006-08-04
This remains the best Patti album to date, though 2004's Timeless Journey was phenomenal.
Burnin' is full of great music.
I Hear Your Voice has to be the most amazing "slow burn" song I have ever heard. Written by Prince and whipped up by Miss Patti, this is one of her greatest of all time.
When You've Been Blessed (Feels Like Heaven) is one of the most beautiful songs ever. Crazy Love, Saving My Love For You, and Somebody Love You Baby are great slow jams.
On We're Not Making Love anymore, Patti finally found someone other than Michael McDonanld who could stand next to her in the studio and not be blown away. And it's Michael Bolton.
This whole CD is infused with Patti's emotions and some great jams. But this one before any of the compilation albums.
Peace easy.
Patti's Burnin Tour De Force!.......2005-09-03
By now you will notice that for each artist that I have reviewed more than a couple of times, I have called one of their albums a Tour de Force.
For me, Burnin is Patti's Tour De Force, and I consider it to be her most consistent studio album. Patti's live shows are so over the top, and eventful that her studio albums can suffer as being a letdown, Burnin lives up to it's name.
This album mixes funk/disco/dance (Feels Like Another One, Release Yourself), Gospel (When You've Been Blessed), and R & B power ballads that burn with fury (Burnin, Somebody Loves You, Crazy Love). As an added attraction she teams up with her friend, Gladys Knight for the duet ironiclly titled, I Don't Do Duets.
Patti released a live album shortly after Burnin was released, and it features SOME of the Burnin tracks done live, but Burnin is a studio work by Patti that should be savored as orignally recorded.
Patti DOES do duets.......2004-02-14
With Greatest Hits CDs out there, people often overlook previous albums like this one. "Burnin" includes "I Don't Do Duets", a duet with Gladys Knight that is unavailable on the Greatest Hits compilations. "I Don't Do Duets" shouldn't be missed, and for that I say this CD is worth buying.
Another song not to be missed is "When You've Been Blessed", a feel- good, gospel influenced track. There are also the radio hits like "Somebody Loves You" and "Feels Like Another One", which were popular. They showcase Patti's vocal talent, even if musically they aren't best Patty has to offer.
Patti burns it down!!.......2003-02-26
This album can be added to the many successes that Ms. LaBelle has achieved throughout her exceptional career. Burnin' has soothing, and alluring ballads. It also has a foot-stompin' get yo shake-down track with "Feels Like Another One". This album is definitely worth your dollars.
'Doesn't quite "catch fire" as the title suggests.......2003-01-04
Patti's 1991 album is more like an ember than it is a full blazing inferno. Luther Vandross, Gladys Knight, Sarah Dash, Nona Hendrix, and Michael Bolton might be on hand, but even their support can't help an otherwise mundane recording. Too many of the songs sound like other things that Patti has done. Even "Release Yourself" sounds like a rip-off of Aretha's "Rock Steady" without any of that song's saving graces.
Only the opening track "Feels Like Another One" has any "oomph".
I wish that she had had another one on this album.

Burnin'.......2005-04-18
Bruno (g) Craig Thomas (b) Steve Holloway (d). Bruno is an excellent guitar player with terrific chops. A Philly guy, he is being hailed as a respected new talent on guitar. That talent is on display in force here, especially on the title track (a blues) and THE ETERNAL TRIANGLE, which swings mightily. And Jimmy can play a pretty ballad, too, as witness Coltrane's CENTRAL PARK WEST. Recommended.
Jaw dropping, and awe inspiring.......2004-07-20
If you read the liner notes in this album there is a line that says something like "If you ever wondered how good jazz guitar can get, this is it". Nothing could be closer to the truth. Jimmy Bruno is not only the greatest living bebop guitarist, he ranks at the top of the all time list, along with Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Pat Martino, and George Benson. And for sheer technical ability, he is above all of them.
His playing on this album at times is so overwhelming, it will have you questioning how any human being can play with such technique and precision. "Eternal Triangle" smolders all the way through. "One for Amos" and "Burnin" show how he can get down in the blues alley one moment and then just blow your mind in the next. Coltrane's "Giant Steps" is a challenge for any jazz musician, and few guitarists even attempt it. Bruno's version will just leave you speechless. And the albums final tune "That's All", says it all. Bruno's diatonic explorations at the speed of light are nothing short of jaw dropping. The thing that is so amazing about him is that he plays with such incredible speed and precision, and yet his playing drips with beautiful melodicism and pure soul. Can I give this 10 stars?
Wow..........2004-01-21
Jimmy Bruno's playing on this album is the most impressive I think I have ever heard. His technique and speed are remarkable. When I heard the first track for the first time, I sat in awe with my mouth open. The overall group is a little shaky at times, but Bruno's many melodic and rythmic ideas keep this album interesting. Great Buy. Especially if you like people who play fast AND melodic!
Enjoyable, but somewhat shallow.......2002-10-20
This album has some really great tracks on it. The opening Sonny Stitt piece, Eternal Triangle, really "burns", as the title suggests. But, after the pyrotechnics of Bruno's amazing technique smolders like cinders in a pile of ash(and his technique, if nothing else, is amazing), there isn't a lot to this album. It is a completely listenable and enjoyable piece, but it is lacking in that special something that makes a legendary jazz work of art. Maybe it's the chemistry between the players, which is a bit stale at times, or maybe it is the solos, which can be a bit by the numbers, but this album can only be "good", not "great."
great dinner music.......2002-07-20
Whenever I have guests over the house, I always put this CD on. It provides great background music, as these cats are always mellow. Jimmy Bruno seems to be mostly in tune and is never overpowering. His relaxed, carefree, and dreamy solo from the CD's first cut "Eternal Triangle" is just the thing if you're all out of sedatives and just need to kick back, relax, and take a chill-pill. Throw away all your Ray Coniff, Montovani, and -- dare I say it? -- never listen to Peter Townsend again. This is the guitarist for you. You won't regret it.
