The beginning of a legend.......2006-12-04

If you don't know who Camarón and Paco are, it will have to suffice to say that they are (or were, in Camarón's case), by universal consensus the greatest flamenco singer and guitarist of the last fifty years.

However, their recording history, confusing enough even at the beginning, is now so complex that I think it worthwhile to include a short guide as to where the present album fits in.

They started recording together in 1969, when Paco was barely into his twenties and Camarón even younger; the collaboration revolutionised both their chosen fields, and changed the course of Flamenco forever.

Unbelievably, their first five records together were *all* entitled "El Camarón de la Isla con la colaboración especial de Paco de Lucía". For this reason, they are known to aficonados by the titles of their opening tracks, as follows:

1969 Al verte las flores lloran
1970 Cada vez que nos miramos
1971 Son tus ojos dos estrellas
1972 Canastera*
1973 Caminito de Totana

They also recorded four further albums within the traditional framework, before abandoning it for the experiments with rock, bossa nova, orchestras etc. that resulted in the Flamenco Fusion we know today. These albums are:

1974 Soy Caminante
1975 Arte y Majestad
1976 Rosa María
1977 Castillo de Arena

All of the above adhere strictly to the traditional format, which is to say just voice and guitar, plus the usual rhythmic and other support known as jaleo. Frequently Paco's brother Ramón (a fine player in his own right) is heard on second guitar.

I am not alone in thinking that these albums are some of the finest Flamenco ever recorded; musically, you can't go wrong with any of them.

They are, however, short by CD standards. Only the present album is over 40 minutes, and "Castillo de Arena" is just over 31. But If you're serious about Flamenco, it's still worth getting all of them instead of the various anthologies.

The title track of the present album is a driving bulería, with Ramón on second guitar. The soleá and the siguiriya are alone enough to show that Camarón was a master of traditional material, before he started doing his own thing. Paco's accompaniments, the virtuosity always under strict control, are models of what such things should be.

I could go on, but you get the idea...

*Canastera is in fact so labelled on some copies. Also, I'm noticing that some CD reissues have the more useful titles.

Passionate and earthy.......2006-11-30

This is possibly the first CD that de Lucia and Camaron recorded together. Although they were both very young (19-21) at the time, they show a great deal of artistic expression and technical virtuosity. This is unadulterated, absolutely pure flamenco. Highly intense and emotional - a must have for the lover of traditional flamenco.

This is my all-time favorite song from Madonna - an extended version no less of "La Isla Bonita?" This is the disc to own...Five stars!

No Madge Collection Is Complete Without This!.......2005-06-28

1) La Isla Bonita- I believe this is an extended version. Very good.
2) Open Your Heart- my all-time favorite Madonna song. This is also an extended version. EXCELLENT!
3) Gambler- I love this cheesy '80s song and I'm glad it was included.
4) Crazy For You- gorgeous ballad. Reminds me of my boyfriend.
5) La Isla Bonita instrumental- a tad boring, but good for karoake

Excellent Remixes Of La Isla Bonita and Open Your Heart .......2005-01-23

I love this CD so much. La Isla Bonita the extended remix from the True Blue album is beautifully remixed and powerful. This remix gives the song so much power. I am glad they included an instrumental version so I can sing to it. She sang this song at the Drowned World Tour beautifully dressed up in black. Open Your Heart is also from the True Blue album and the extended version is breathtaking. It nice and long and such a beautiful song!! She even talks at the end of it for a minute and she sounds so cute. This song also went to #1 in the USA. Gambler is a great fast song by itself and it is very 80's you can recognize it from the sound. Crazy For You is the beautiful slow ballad that went to # 1 in the USA. Crazy For You was sang at then Reinvention Tour. Both songs are from the movie "Vision Quest". I highly recommend this album to Madonna fans you will dance all night to Open Your Heart and Gambler and gracefully move across the dancefloor to La Isla Bonita!!

CD worth picking up .......2004-11-10

I just started collecting these cd remix singles/eps and this one is worth picking up...The LA ISLA BONITA mix is good, but the highlight is the excellent OPEN YOUR HEART mix and getting the original version of CRAZY FOR YOU & GAMBLER (from the movie VISION QUEST) on a MADONNA release..Packaging is the standard jewel case with the classic 45 single sleeve featuring an old school pic of MADONNA during her TRUE BLUE era...for nostolgic,collectible & remix purposes, this is a great MADONNA import single to add to anyone's MADONNA, dance and/or 80'S music collection!

A Very Good CD.......2004-09-30

This cd is Very good, except that all the songs, you can get on other collections/Cd's. It would have been nice if there was some songs that were not on other collections, here, but oh well it is still hot!!

1)La Isla Bonita (Extended Mix): A very good mix of this song, I love the song and an Extended mix is great, but it could have been longer, like 10 minutes.

2)Open Your Hear (Extended Mix): I really like this version, it is a good mix of the orginal. And it also sounds a little differnt than the orginal.

3)Gambler: I adore this song and it is wonderful that is song is on an easily to obtain EP. Truly a marvelous 80's classic.

4)Crazy For You: The classic ballad appears here to accompy the other Vison Quest, song. This is a Madonna classic. This version is a little bit longer than the one that appaers on the Immaculate collection.

5)La Isla Bonita (Instrumental): A nice ending to this EP. I love the song and the Music. This is not a real true instrumental, it has a few background vocals. This is the instrumental to the Extended Remix, not the album version, so that is a plus

This is a very good cd, to complete you collection and is priced better than the True Blue Ep @19.99.

Todo lo que pudiera decir de este mito de la musica contemporanea seria absurdo, insuficiente, irrelevante....y mil epitetos mas no darian la medida para una explicacion racional. Asi que lo que mejor que pueden hacer es comprar y luego escuchar con el corazon en la mano...apretandolo bien fuerte si posible fuere.

Best Cantaor & Guitar of recent times: Together.......2007-03-28

This CD combines the best cantaor (flamenco singer) and guitar player of recent times (although Paco Peña should not be ignored). These two were best of friends and they collaborated on this and another 4 albums (with similar names). Just pour yourself a cup of Jerez wine, sit back and say "¡Ole!" whenever you feel like you can't hold it in any longer.

For Paco, this is one of his "pure flamenco" CDs; this is not one of his more recent "New Flamenco" adventures.

Este [Single] contiene cuantro excelentes remixes del tema "La Isla Bonita" de Corrine. Todo aquel que sea admirador de Corrine tiene que tener este CD que esta buenisimo. Este tema fue produccido por Wyclef Jean para RMM Records. Los mixes fueron realizados por una de las mejores compañias de remix, Cibola Productions y sus productores Steve Chavez & Charles Chavez. Vale la pena comprar este CD. Tambien recomiendo los siguientes CD de remixes: "Remixes" de Grupo Mania, "The Remixes" de Elvis Crespo y "Megamixes" de Shakira.

Essential.......2004-09-15

This 3-CD set features the earliest of Cameron de la Isla's recordings with Paco de Lucia in 1969, 1970, 1971. These were arguably the best years of their many collaborations, so this is a great buy for someone wishing to become familiar with flamenco.

My favorite of the three CD's is the one released in 1970 entitled "Cada Vez Que Nos Miramos", which can be bought seperately.
