John, who says he is not a "Hollywood country" fan, traces his musical roots to Elvis Presley, James Taylor, Dan Folgelberg, Charlie Rich and Frank Sinatra. "I'm a fan of a much purer form of country like the early George Strait and Chris Le Doux."

Another entertaining collection from the group named after what it likes to play. This collection includes trio sonatas by Telemann and Bach, both beautifully played, along with a couple of pieces by Granados and a couple of accessible contemporary works by Wooldridge and Noda. It would be easy to look down on collections like this, which aim to please and not to challenge. But you can't look down at this level of performance with the music so splendidly played. And this collection is far above the quality of typical "crossover" collections. It will definitely please, and probably soothe, the most demanding classical listener. --Leslie Gerber

Steve is an enrolled member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. His Lakota name is Mato Tanka or Big Bear. Steve has been singing before he could talk and received his first guitar at age 13. Since he was a small boy, he learned traditional Lakota songs, Lakota Language and Culture. Steve regularly performs at a variety of community functions on North and South Indian Reservations.

Product Description

Steve is an enrolled member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. Since he was a small boy, Steve learned traditional Lakota songs, Lakota language and Culture. At age 13, he received his first guitar and he's been playing ever since. Although mostly self-taught, Steve studied guitar with guitar virtuoso Christopher Robin Johnson for more than two years at the University of South Dakota. He has written more than 100 contemporary songs and composed numerous traditional songs for voice as well as the traditional Lakota Siyotanka (Courting) Flute.
