Long overdue. A bit of background on this release.......2006-08-27
Being that I have been doing sound restoration for many years, I wanted to be directly involved with that aspect of the CD. They informed me what songs they could use without incurring additional licensing fees, so that was the material I could work with. Cherry Red pulled out the tapes they had in storage, did a flat transfer of them to CD and sent them to me. I was allowed to select the songs and put them in an order of my choice. I spent a good bit of time remastering the material. I evened the balances, adjusted the volumes, removed some static pops within the songs and did some careful hiss reduction. In addition, a tape for one song could not be found, and three others had poorly deteriorated over time. I managed to save one of those songs by re-equalizing the damaged channel and the others I remastered, with skill, from vinyl. Can you tell which ones they are? Of the 19 songs I had to choose from, the only one I chose to leave off was the 12" version of "The Alabama Song". The 7" is far superior, though it is still not one of their best releases.
The CD also included a couple of unreleased songs found on one of the master tapes. Of those songs, "Africa" was a fully produced song that I found quite interesting. Jungle drumming and shouting gave it a sort of Adam and the Ants feel.
The unreleased version of "The Slide" was later revealed to me by one of the band members as a joke track that was never meant to be released. That was not known in advance, and I included it because the other versions of "The Slide" could not be included due to licensing.
Like with many compilation albums, the material will vary as the group explores different musical territory. This is no exception. Early songs like the classic "Into the garden" and "The Clown" are quite different from what appeared on the 'One afternoon in a hot air baloon' LP but that's what compilations are all about - diversity. I suppose I could have had 'Balloon' released in its standard running order with the additional songs included as bonuses, though I opted for the scattered compilation approach. I put my opinion of the stronger songs towards the beginning, ending with the weaker and the remixes/alternate versions. I also provided the front cover art and all scans in the booklet. Cherry Red had none of the single/album sleeves handy so I gladly scanned and emailed them. I based the design of the front cover on the 'Oceans' mini LP, and was quite pleased with the results. The cover showing up on many of these online websites is the original, untouched rough draft I provided, which was before a last minute name change and some correction done to the curtains. I also proofed the liner notes and provided a major overhaul to the discography. Finally, I provided the song detail paragraph on page one.
I spent many months working with a couple of other great people to get this CD to become a reality. I'm very proud of the results and hope others enjoy it as well - it's long overdue. That being said, I also enjoy the new Artery compilation that Simon Hinkler worked on for the Spinney label, which is actually titled 'Afterwards'. It focuses on the earlier Artery material, including much of the stuff I was unable to use. There is only one song/version on that CD that overlaps with this one, making it an essential buy for Artery fans.
Though the final Artery recordings are not as good as the earlier material, it would be nice to eventually see a compilation focusing on the 84-85 material as well.

Ozaki, he is not one of those J-pop stars........2006-08-29
In some big cities, there are what are called "screen concert" on his obit. People just get together and watch his old concert films. And those "live music" are still covered by media.
His music is very rebellious and full of his conflicts with the older generation, society and his identity. These are more or less common adolescent themes and go beyond generations so that he still gets young worshippers.
I love some of his songs, but not all of them. I believe he was a great singer and still is. He is one of a limited number of singers whose songs really represent the life of the singer.
His music is his life. He was a very very honest guy and I don't feel any commercialism in his music.

Gouging Out Eyes of Mutilated Infants
ARTERY ERUPTION Manufacturer: Goregiastic ProductGroup: Music Binding: Audio CD ASIN: B000NNHVOM |
Product Description
Genre: Death Metal Label: Goregiastic Records Playing time: 32:38 Band homepage: Artery Eruption Tracklist: Scalped Stimulation In A Rigormortified Whore Jackhammer Headcrush Asexual Virgin Killer >mp3 Gouging Out Eyes Of Mutilated Infants Explosion Of A Thick, Orange Pourage-like Substance Inexplicable Scrotal Mutilation Ripped With Anal Forceps If it werent for ARTERY ERUPTIONs above the bar musicianship, then Gouging Out Eyes Of Mutilated Infants a title that will surely land them a performance on Sesame Street would be even more needless than it is currently. While these Californians have the benefit of calling Goregiastic Records their home... As I stated, the musicianship isnt shabby, but its impact is lessened by the subpar production, which makes the drums sound like flimsy tin. The vocals are unintelligible, with Mohlers (guitars) gurgles and gargles as deep and as ho-hum as many of his peers. When Williams (drums) isnt busy plastering Gouging Out Eyes Of Mutilated Infants with more fills than a pharmacy has prescription drugs, the grooves lying underneath are actually quite good. The middle of Stimulation In A Rigormortified Whore and the title track present an impeccable sense of timing, rhythm and attention to detail. However, much of ARTERY ERUPTIONs material comes off as jumbled, too messy for its own good. So what dont you like about this? Glad you asked.... Gouging Out Eyes Of Mutilated Infants has the benefit of having excerpts from movies made by Billy Bob Thornton and Steve Carell, the others are more obscure. Barely over half an hour, the eight tracks dont accomplish what hasnt been accomplished before, but I suppose to be fair, its not like they set out to discover new land in the first place. jason - metal observer
