5 out of 5 stars Passionate, intense, beautiful... from a taiko drum master.......2007-03-29

I'm not sure you how found this CD, perhaphs you're from Japan... this one is a real treat though. Knowing nothing about Japanese Taiko drums I went to a production locally (Sydney) being presented by Taikoz (a local taiko outfit) primarily to listen live to Riley Lee, a Japanese Grand Master Flautist. Eitetsu Hayashi was in the country and was playing with Taikoz this night. When Taikoz came on to play their drums, I was impressed, when this tiny guy Eitetsu Hayashi came on as their guest to play, I was floored... for several hours... and I forgot all about Riley Lee, he was truly overshadowed on this night by an absolute master of the Taiko drum.

I left that theatre that night having seen the best live performance I've seen of any kind, ever, including all of the concerts I've ever been to. His playing of the Taiko drums was simply stunning. Powerful, intense, passionate, masterful. In his solo pieces he belted those Taiko drums like a true master and created some of the most diverse and broad range of sounds I've ever heard. By the end of the piece, his shirt was off, he was dripping in sweat and the audience was, lets say, shocked, and begging for more.

I immediately looked him up on the web and found he'd also played with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra which was recorded (and replayed), however, sadly I didnt get to hear it. I asked that night which was the best CD of his to listen to and this is the one they recommeded. It's a live recording from Berlin, is passionate, intense, beautiful. Takes one through the range of emotions. Sometimes upbeat, sometimes slower tempo. If you're looking for something different or something quite beautiful or just a great Taiko drum CD I can highly recommend this one.
