The absolute greatest EVER!.......2007-06-23

I have studied piano for over 30 years. I have been all over the US and have heard many of the greats: Peter Nero, Roger Williams, Liberace and Oscar Peterson. There is no doubt, all the aforementioned are excellent players, however, I would have exchanged seeing them all for a chance to have heard Cavallaro! His technique was flawless and he changed keys three times in most of his songs. Nobody puts in the little grace notes like he does, cause most people can't! Sure, he was not a super presence in the jazz field or on stages for classical concerts. However he defines the world of cocktail piano. It was even admitted by Liberace that he got the musical part of his act from Carmen Cavallaro.

One thing I don't understand is why he really never got his due. It is really hard to find info about Carmen. I would love to read his autobiography, or talk to some of his family members.

Anyway, this album will put a shiver down your spine with the usual Cavallaro magic. Despite the fact that some of the tracks are a little quiet, the talent still overwhelms you. I have just about every one of his alubums in vinyl, and have found this to be a great addition to my CD collection. You will too!

My review is not typical or routine because this is the type of music I listen to and try obtain. I find it relaxing and stress defiant. Carmen Cavallaro along with Beegie Adair are two of my favorites. Both good for background music at a dinner party.

He is the best I ever heard at cocktail piano.......2004-12-29

I study bepop style piano with a specialist in that area. He tells me all I ever need hear is Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Art Tatum, Lester Young, Thelonius Monk, etc. Well, ever since I saw this Carman Cavallaro CD and grabbed it I've been listening to it over and over. It gets better the more I listen to it. Cavallaro is amazing. You cannot go wrong buying this Cd. Cavallaro is the Art Tatum of cocktail piano. Wow. I'm blown away. He has turned cocktail piano into an art form. Great CD.

Waltzing Cavallaro.......2002-11-05

This album consists of mostly pre-war recordings, which sometimes affects sound quality. Selection includes also several recordings
from 1950-60 period, after Cavallaro disbanded his orchestra and decided again to perform as a soloist. For numerous enthusiasts of his decorative pianistics this album is hopefully the first among many to come.
Particularly the period 1950-1970 brought about many albums worth
attention: "Waltzing in the Dark", "The best of Carmen Cavallaro', "Carmen Cavallaro Remembers Eddy Duchin", "Poetry in Ivory" and many others, which deserve to be re-released on discs.
Reviewed CD will make happy all Cavallaro's fans and should become
shortly a collectible item. Nobody played like him and there is nobody who could replace his popular piano virtuosity.

You won't be sorry that you purchased this if you love this era of music. He is a truly amazing piano player. I first fell in love with this music from the movie "Eddy Duchin Story" which is a must see. You can find yourself wrapped in a trance when you listen to this as it brings back the days..

If you watch a movie about the life of Eddy Duchin ("The Eddy Duchin Story"), you will discover how skillful Cavallaro was because he was the player in the film. Try to find this movie to understand what I mean.

He had a very characteristic personal style of interpretation.
If you do not know his style, verify if you can appreciate it in the samples of the albums Christmas (listen "Jingle Bells") and in the album "My Sentimental Heart: 1946" (listen "Lover").

The recordings of this album are old but OK, so that do not expect too much in this respect.

I like very much his "Manhattan" interpretation (that is contained in this album).

This new CD includes recordings made between 1940 and 1947. They are monophonic. After thorough re-mastering many of them still show their age. However, despite some technical flaws, this album
contains many well known standards, that made Cavallaro famous.
Performance of "Brasil" or "Dancing in the Dark',"Carioca" played by
33 year old pianist show his improvisational skills and unmatched
virtuosity as well as his characteristic ornate style. On many of these recordings Cavallaro and his band play as instrumental accompaniment for Bing Crosby , Dick Haynes or Andrews Sisters where Cavallaro remains in the background. All recordings remain a great gift to all Cavallaro admirers bringing back a flavor
of an era of big bands and unforgettable piano soloists.

This is the GENUINE 1956 Soundtrack to the film, The Eddie Duchin Story. The whole CD is WONDERFUL and captures almost all of the musical highlights of the film!!! Carmen Cavallaro plays the piano for sound quality reasons (Duchin recorded in the 1930's), but plays in Eddie Duchin's style. It is simply wonderful and delightful music!! Grab this while you can, and it's worth paying a little extra for!!! This is the ONLY place I've seen this available for purchase!

My Sentimental Heart: 1946.......2000-12-29

This album has a historical value; most of pieces are pre-war recordings with typical 1930's orchestration. His artistry flourished and became the most popular in mid-1950, when he disbanded his orchestra and decided to perform as a soloist. As an extremely talented popular pianist Mr. Cavallaro was famous of his ornate pianistics. All recordings presented on this album are mono and despite thorough remastering show their age. More of his 1950's albums sound quite contemporary and their release would be much appreciated.

I discovered Cavallaro on my grandma's old albums. This one is Absolutely delicious! This CD will send you back in time to those days right after the war. Beautifuly conducted and brilliantly played. Cavallaro has here one of his finest moments. Just listen to the first track and you'll be amazed by his virtuosity. A true gem! Unbeatable on love making! (laughs)

Album Description

Domenico Cimarosa (1749-1801) was one of the most important and successful Italian composers of the eighteenth century, with a considerable international reputation. Among his admirers were Goethe and Stendhal, the latter saying of Il matrimonio segreto that "None of the women I have enjoyed gave me such a delightful, careless moment." Cimarosa beat out Mozart for the post of court music director in Vienna, and at the height of his fame, Il matrimonio segreto became his greatest success. Emperor Leopold II was so taken with the opera that he invited Cimarosa and the cast to dine with him after the premiere, and then to return to the theater and repeat it all over again! Today, Il matrimonio segreto is one of the few comic operas to look back on an uninterrupted performance tradition of over 200 years.
