Album Description

European edition of their fifth studio album features a bonus disc of remixes of all the tracks features on the album. 22 tracks in all. Hooverphonic is based in Belgium, a small European country with a strong music scene featuring an open air festival tradition that starts as early as 1959. Hooverphonic's career has been marked from the beginning by international recognition, when the song '2 Wicky' was chosen for the movie 'Stealing Beauty' by Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci. From then on, their music kept appearing in movies, TV shows and commercials in the States, as well as in Spain and Japan. If Hooverphonic's '97 debut 'A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular' clearly showed trip hop roots, the band has evolved since with three albums in five years. In 2001 they headlined at the Werchter festival in front of a crowd of 50.000. In 2003 they released 'Sit Down and Listen to', live recorded with a string quartet and followed by a tour with more than 60 concerts in 9 countries. Sony. 2005.

5 out of 5 stars Their absolute best yet!!.......2006-12-28

I really, really enjoy this CD. I think this has to be their best album since "stereophonic" and is their "sweetest" music yet. I really do like all of their other albums also (with Jackie Cane being my least favorite), but this one really stands out to me as being extremely well crafted. And the fact that it includes an additional disc with remixes of every song really expands the value and the listening experience.

5 out of 5 stars Completely Accessible.......2006-06-10

I made a "best of" Hoover CD a few yrs ago and everyone I pass it along to just falls in love with this band. This latest release, though it looks like it's a long way off from being out in the USA (I recommend buying it used), just keeps the magic rolling. It is smooth, fun to listen to, with great hooks, great beats, wonderful vocals. The "A" version of the title track is the coolest song I have heard in years, there is not a single weak track on either disc ("heartbeat" maybe - that one's not a keeper). I am very happy with this CD, its been playing at my house practically every night since I got it. Highest recommendation.

5 out of 5 stars Essential For Any Hooverphonic Fan.......2006-03-16

"No More Sweet Music" is actually two albums - the aforementioned title and also a second disc entitled "More Sweet Music". Each of them contain the same 11 songs - by name and lyrics only. I've never heard an album like this before. I gave up deciding which disc is the primary disc. One disc is not comprised of dubbed versions, live versions, outtakes or anything else one could categorize.

Both albums present each song in a very different way. There is no discernable pattern - for instance, songs on one disc are not of a certain genre (trip hop, electronica, etc)..again each disc presents 11 songs, each completely different from the same title on the other disc. Amazing.

That said, the songs themselves are outstanding. I rank this album with Hooverphonics' finest efforts to date. Standout tracks are the title track, "We All Float", "You Love Me to Death", "Dirty Lenses" and the very radio-friendly "You Hurt Me".

Not only is this album a double treat, it is a challenge as well. In no way do I mean this album is inaccessible - it is, very much so. It is a challenge in that you have to get used to hearing two superb but absolutely different versions of the same song. A sensational idea and executed perfectly - an incredibly inspired and innovative feat. Superbly euphoric and dreamy from beginning to end. Highly recommended and well worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars More sweet music...please!.......2006-02-07

While a lot of people dislike the direction Hooverphonic went after their debut, I happen to love it (for the most part). I loved A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular, but I've also loved every subsequent album. The one problem that I have had with all their albums (aside from the first) is that there are always a couple tracks that are SO odd and experimental that even I had trouble with them (such as the last three tracks on Presents Jackie Cane, which was otherwise my former favorite Hoover album). That is not the case with No More Sweet Music. They've ditched the over-the-top showtuney experiments in favor of a more cohesive and overall pleasant listening experience. There are enough chill tracks to please fans of their older stuff and enough poppy, flamboyant tracks to please fans of their more recent stuff.

I initially didn't like the idea of two versions of the same album because I expected one to be significantly better and the other to be mostly throw-aways. That is not the case at all, though! Both versions are incredible and I listen to them equally. I'd say the general sound is a combination of all previous albums. There's also an Asian flair among some of the tracks that adds to the cool vibe. More Sweet Music is more organic/loungy while NO More Sweet Music is more electronic/trip-hoppy. If I had to choose, I think I like More Sweet Music just slightly more - mostly because I like its version of "We All Float" much more and its version of the title track is probably my favorite Hoover song ever. Seriously, I'm obsessed with it. My least favorite track is "Music Box" from More Sweet Music. The music and the verses are cool, but the chorus is a bit off-key and just doesn't work for me.

Overall, this is another masterpiece (actually two masterpieces) by one of my favorite (and most underrated) bands. I can't stop playing these discs. This will definitely be one of 2006's best.

4 out of 5 stars Old Hooverphonic is dead, long life new Hooverphonic!.......2005-12-30

The band is changing and this is clearly shows through thier latest album - it is nothing like their first releases. If you enjoyed the original Hooverphonic, you will probably be dissapointed, as you will find "No more sweet music" too commercial, almost pop. On the other hand, if you have more traditional tastes, you will probably like this release as it offers a few catchy melodies, more sophisticated sound and a good beat here and there. One item I must agree with another reviewer - the main singer's vocals are somewhat mediocre.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars My favorite album of all time.......2007-06-15

I first heard this album when I was in the Air Force stationed in the Netherlands in the mid 80's. Some of the guys I was stationed with were listening to it and thought it was great. I went out and bought it because I liked the song 'Up the Down Escalator'. Slowly over time I listened to more and more songs on the album until I got to the point where I liked every song on it. There is no other album I own where I listen to the whole thing on a regular basis. I just can't tell you how much I love this album.

I decided to write this review after reading the other reviews posted here. I knew I loved it but didn't know anyone else who even knew who this band was. It made me feel good to know that there were other people out there who feel the same as I do. If I was going to be stranded on a deserted island and could only bring one cd with me, this would be the one.

5 out of 5 stars Genius, Post Punk Genius.......2007-06-09

I'm thrilled to see every review for this album at 5 stars... and here I've walked around for years thinking myself and small group of friends were the only ones to know.

Joy Division may have started the genre, this band took it to extraordinary levels. As previously mentioned, easily the most underrated band of all time.

Listen to the vocal phrasings by Mark Burgess. Most musicians have one hook, be it vocal or instrumental, per song (often times one per album), - Burgess ,on the other hand, drops one achingly memorable phrase after another over the reverb drenched repeating guitar lines of his mates. Unbelievable.

Not surprising, The Edge was in attendance at many early shows (Steve Lilywhite, engineer on early U2 albums also engineered/produced tracks for the Chameleons on their 'Fan and the Bellows' release). Someone mentioned Interpol... the first time I heard Interpol's debut I thought "that cat's been listening to the Chameleons".

Second Skin is genius at work, absolute genius.

5 out of 5 stars incredible.......2007-05-17

I was looking for this record (glorious, but not easy to find for 80s addicted) since years... and finally I found it. A miliar stone for 80s music lovers.

5 out of 5 stars I've owned this album 4 times.......2006-08-25

I keep misplacing it... a friend borrows and doesn't return it maybe? Point is, I always REPLACE it. I bought the album when it came out and I think it is still resting someone in my folk's attic and I miss it! Everything about the album is right. The changes in the songs are what really get me. Second Skin evokes such a mood and makes me cry EVERY single time I hear it.

5 out of 5 stars Most underated album of all time???.......2006-05-18

This could be it folks. The number one most underated album of all time!!! Every great thing that has been said about this album in the above reviews is true. If you're a fan of Joy Division, Interpol, Editors, Ride, Stone Roses, The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, U2 etc. etc. you must do yourself a favor and buy this album. By the way the Chameleons released an album in 2000 or 2001???
They are still going!!! Wow. One more time...BUY THIS RECORD!!!

5 out of 5 stars Loved It.......2007-07-11

I completely enjoyed this CD, you can listen to the whole cd. I was sick of the music playing on US radio stations (always same songs, same artists) and I was bored of my cd collection already. I went searching for something to listen to and found powderfinger, what good timing, with Dream Day being released, I also purchased Vulture St. and also loved it,(more rock).

**I think they are my new favorite!!

5 out of 5 stars Yet another great album from the boy from Brisbane.......2007-06-20

What a fantastic album. Powderfinger delivers again with some fantastic rock songs.

4 out of 5 stars Better than Vulture Street, but not Odyssey #5.......2007-06-12

I was worried that Vulture Street, although good, was the beginning of Powderfinger's fall from their peak, Odyssey #5 (this is obviously just my opinion). Dream Days seems to be better than Vulture Street after a few listens. IMO its not better than Odyssey or Internationalist. But a very strong album indeed. Not a bad track on the album.

Lordi's follow up to Get Heavy is sure to please. The rythmic beats of Blood Red Sandman will have you screaming for more. Do yourself a favor and watch the video. In my opinion it defines Lordi. Not to mention it has Kalma. The top hat wearing Grim Reapers son you'll never ignore. Highlights on this album are Bring It On, Blood Red Sandman, Wake The Snake and Kalmageddon. There's never a dull moment when your listening to this band. See them live on the main stage at OZZFEST 2007. Check [...] or [...] for tour dates. If you're lucky they'll be in a town near you.

4 out of 5 stars The Monsterican Dream.......2007-06-29

I'm not gonna lie. This album took some time to grow on me. Later on, I realized that this was actually a really good album after a few re-listens. I think I like it a little bit more every time I hear it now. It's a different style than The Arockalypse and Get Heavy, but it's definitely still awesome. The way the album was mixed makes it sound heavier than Get Heavy, or so says Wikipedia. Anyway, my favorite tracks are Blood Red Sandman, My Heaven is Your Hell, Wake the Snake, Shotgun Divorce, and Kalmageddon.

Good mix of her greatest songs. Although it is hard because I think all her songs are great.

5 out of 5 stars Catch up to Europe.......2006-11-04

Anastacia is HUGE in Europe - hopefully here in the US we'll catch up to Europe. If you're considering checking out Anastacia this is the album to do it. She has too many great songs to list them all here. To describe Anastacia you have to picture the body of a blond Shania Twain with the voice of Taylor Dayne. Her music can be considered Euro Pop or Top 40 rock. If you check her out you won't regret it.

5 out of 5 stars What a beautiful sound.......2006-04-23

Paid My Dues is wonderful,I'm Outta Love, Left Outside Alone,Sick and Tired are also super!.I Belong to You is as good as the others.I think these 5 songs are even enough.Anastacia has a unique and very beautiful sound.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Good album, but not the book size case though.......2007-03-30

I got a chance to buy this album after saving up some money for it. I thought I was getting a CD set in a typical case, but Sony decided to make it in the size of a book, and put the CD's in the sleeves of the book, which I don't like about the CD set. The 1st CD has some of her best CD's, and I believe they were put in the order of song's release. I'm Outta Love gave Anastacia her big break. Not That Kind is ok, but not my overall favorite though. Cowboys & Kisses sounds a bit country, which had this song been released in the United States, it might have been lucky to get promoted on AC stations, as Pop stations wouldn't have touched this song. As for the Freak of Nature Album, Paid my Dues being a song about Anastacia finally making it big in the music business. I usually don't hear songs about that. One Day in Your Life is the European version, where it sounds a bit computerized, plus the song fades out as she sings toward the end, where the American version had a few extra seconds of instrumental music at the end. I prefer the American version better. Why'd You Lie to Me reminds me of someone that cheated on me, and can relate to the song. You'll Never Be Alone is one of my favorite love songs.
From the Anastacia album, this album has Left Outside Alone, which is my overall favorite song from her. It has a rock sound to it. I only wished Sony did a better job trying to promote this song in the United States, but they didn't do a good job at it. Sick & Tired & Heavy on My Heart, being emotional songs, talking about her struggle with Breast Cancer, and overcoming it. As for the New Songs, I like the duet she did with Ben Moody, and the song also appears on the Fantastic Four Soundtrack. I Belong to You would be a good song in my book, if Eros Rammonazzi (Don't believe the name is spelled right) sang his part in English, instead of Italian. Now if this album had been released in the United States, that song would either have been sung with someone else in place of Eros, or removed completely. The Club Megamix should have been left off of disc 1, as it didn't sound right at all. It was mish-mashed songs, which I don't like. The 2nd disc has the remixes, which is where I want to hear the remixes.
As for Dance remixes, I heard the I'm Outta Love [Hex Hector Radio Edit] at a South Bend Indiana nightclub in 2000, which exposed me to Anastacia's music. Left Outside Alone [M*A*S*H Radio Mix] sounds a bit bland, but the Jason Nevins Global Club Edit of the same song fits the lyrics & beat better. Sick and Tired [Jason Nevins Funkrock Remix Edit] in my opinion shouldn't even been remixed. To me, it doesn't sound right speeded up. One Day in Your Life [Hex Hector/Mac Quayle Club Mix] is a bit too long for my listening preference. The Almighty Mix version of the same song fits my style better. Love Is a Crime [Thunderpuss Club Mix] & Cotto's Doin' the Crime Mix are both good remixes, and couldn't stop listening to them. I only wished the original was included on disc 1. Sick and Tired [Jason Nevins Funkrock Remix Edit] & Jason Nevins Electrochill Remix Edit are also good remixes, though I believe the Jason Nevins Electrochill Remix Edit is the better version. Lastly I like Boom [Thunderpuss Tribe-A-Pella Mix], which sounds close enough to the original. The song from FIFA, which makes me wanna dance, whether to the original, or the remix.
If it weren't for the book case & the album leaving off Boom & Love is a Crime from disc 1, I'd give the album 5 stars.

5 out of 5 stars A TRUE MUSICAL DIVA...USA MAKE UP!!!.......2006-10-20

I first viewed Anastacia about 15 years ago on MTV a talent show if you will. She placed in second which was a joke. Anatacia has the "WHOLE" package!!! I live in Florida and she is Hot here. It is to bad that the rest of the USA does not play or carry her music. She by far is a True Diva! This CD is "outstanding" as well as her others were. This is the best of Anastacia and has new releases that have not been released in the USA. It is a double CD and is simply more than I could have asked for. The first CD is the best of her singles and some new songs, the second is if you will a dance mix of her singles which again I will say is "outstanding" My Compaion and I had the Pleasure of seeing her live and I have yet to see another female artist give what she has in the pop world. When comes to great muics for dance and Love this is it! I only again wish that the USA would treat this Diva as she should be instead of her having to cross seas to become a HOT Female Artist. Anastacia has the Voice, look, body, personality and the presentation to out any female pop artist out today in the USA! I look forward to her next release knowing it will be better than that last as each one is. Oh this comes so wonderfuly packaged with a huge book like carrier. With words to each of her songs and some wonderful pictures of her. If you even think you like Her this is a Must have!

5 out of 5 stars Pieces of a Dream - A nicely assembled package!.......2006-06-27

Love it! Anastacia's Greatest Hits. This release that I purchased was the import. Please note: The U.S. Domestic release does NOT include the Dance Remix Bonus CD. In my opinion--the best part of this album. Not that I don't love all the rest of Anastacia's tracks...but alas, I already own almost all of the other great songs in this collection---previously released. Most artists do this when releasing a retrospective---with a few new releases as incentive for Die-hard fans to purchase an album containing mostly songs they already have. With that said---If you dig Anastacia, get this import CD set. It comes packaged in a very slick little picture book (hardcover) with 2 CD's fitting neatly inside the front and back covers. Be careful handling the CD's as they tend to be more prone to surface scratches in packaging like this. The Domestic release of "Pieces of a Dream" include a dance mega-mix of Ana's more popular hits. The bonus CD contained in this import version have DJ remixes of "One Day in Your Life", "I'm Outta Love", "Paid My Dues", "Boom", "Sick & Tired" and others (albeit more remix radio edits than I would've liked!). The remix disc has 14 tracks altogether. Some are different versions of the same song---but still really cool! Disc 1 has 17 tracks. "Everything Burns", "You'll Never Be Alone", "Not That Kind" and "Left Outside Alone" being some of my fave tracks. If you only have her "Freak of Nature" album--you'll get quite a few tracks that were only available previously as import releases. My partner & I saw her live here in Palm Springs,CA---she is an amazing talent with an enormous voice, striking beauty and killer style! Being a huge inspiration to both of us, we had to seek out and obtain all of her albums. Do yourself 2 favors: 1-Buy this CD set. 2-Do a search on Google for Anastacia Lyn Newkirk---you'll find out alot about one amazing little lady!!!

Anastacia is...the worlds best kept secret! And this mix of greatest hits is the best way to join in on all the RAVE!

5 out of 5 stars Pieces of a Dream.......2006-01-17

I just got this today from UK Amazon (cheaper than on here) and I was stunned that it came in a "book"-like package. The package is amazing and beautiful with the lyrics inside on the pages. The CDs are in sleeves in the front and back of the package.

But what really counts is the tracks and amazing remixes on the remix CD. By the way, the description on here is wrong for the special edition. There is no DVD included in the packaging: just Disc 1 (with all her hits and 4 new songs and a megamix) and the remix disc. There will be a DVD being released of her Live at Last tour in March, so look for that.

All of her singles are here (except for Boom and Love is a Crime, though they are on the remix disc) as well as 4 new songs. The title track and new single, Pieces of a Dream, which is amazing and a pure Anastacia rock ballad. There's also I Belong to You, with Italian singer Eros, another ballad and In Your Eyes (ballad) as well as her contribution to the Fantastic 4 soundtrack with Ben Moody, Everything Burns. The club megamix is a almost-12 minute dance tour de force, including her biggest hits, totally remixed. It is amazing.

The remix disc is really good too, including some rare remixes of her biggest hits as well as to Love is a Crime and Boom. It's an amazing addition to have to this greatest hits set.

It really sucks that she isn't more known in the US. Most of my friends don't know who she is. I hope that whenever she releases her fourth studio album, she works harder to try and break the US. I really hope she can get successful here in the US.

So buy this awesome greatest hits package! You won't regret it.

Spends a lot of time with the proverbial english trilled 'R'...
Not necessary.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful CD.......2006-07-30

Katherine Jenkins is a wonderful opera singer she reminds me of Nana Mouskouri even though I don't consider Nana a opera singer the songs Katherine Jenkins sings are very similar to Nana. I would highly recommend Katherine Jenkins CD to any body that like opera and folk songs.

Sensational album. What a voice! No wonder she's taking the UK by storm. Her Italian rendition of the Dolly Parton song is impeccable. Her "Do Not Stand at my Grave and Weep" will bring tears to your eyes.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A good overview of Cass' recordings........2007-05-19

What is great about this CD is that it has true rarities by Cass , as well as the hits that she's known for. Firstly, it does have a good overview of Cass' hit singles DREAM A LITTLE DREAM OF ME, IT'S GETTING BETTER, MAKE YOUR OWN KIND OF MUSIC, NEW WORLD COMING, WORDS OF LOVE with The Mamas & The Papas and more. But what is great is the rare songs never on CD before like her 1972 RCA singles DOES ANYBODY LOVE YOU and [ IF YOU'RE GONNA ] BREAK ANOTHER HEART - 2 of my favorite Cass songs. Plus it has the unreleased EAST OF THE SUN WEST OF THE MOON , which is only found here. Plus, it has a few rare jingles that Cass did for Hardees in 1973. Also has songs from every solo album that Cass did, from 1968-1973.

It's not a complete career history , which would have to be at least 2 CD's. So, you don't get her early folk & bluesy numbers like WILD WOMEN or YOUNG GIRLS LAMENT with The Big Three from 1963, or The Mugwumps folk-rock from 1964. And of course it doesn't cover The Mamas & The Papas much, but then that's easily available & most fans own the group's recordings anyway. But it is essential for any Cass fan to have the rare tracks. The cover could have been a better photo, & the booklet is only 4 pages [ though the liner notes are good ], but the music is here & that's what matters.

4 out of 5 stars Mama Cass' Music.......2007-02-11

I had forgotten about Mama Cass' solo career and was excited when I came across this CD for sale. It is a tad monotonous as pretty much all the songs are love songs, but it's redemption is the great voice of Cass Elliott.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Compilation .......2006-11-29

What a great voice! This is the best compilation of her music to date. As a bonus, it includes the previously unreleased song "East Of The Sun (And West Of The Moon)". Amazon, thank you for making this CD available to us in the USA!

5 out of 5 stars God Bless Cass.......2005-12-07

This is a blessing! Just buy it - the remastering is brilliant.
Until they re-release all her solo stuff - this is worth it.

5 out of 5 stars The Essential Cass Elliot.......2005-05-24

God, she was good!! The sound on this disc is superb, and the selection of songs is excellent. The material sounds so fresh and new, it reminded me just how much I loved her music when I was first introduced to it 30+ years ago. It made me aware, again, of how much I miss her. A great sampling of her work!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Erotic Lounge Definitely Delivers the Lounge ... Other Part of Title Up to You :-).......2006-02-01

"Lounge" is a term often over-used in compilations these days. Some people wil slap that label on anything with a beat (that's not hard trance) or anything remotely soft (New Age/meditative or World music is NOT necessarily 'lounge' or 'chill.')

But in the case of this collection - they actually have labeled and named it correctly!

As for the "Erotic" portion, these CD's will definitely help with the right person(s) in the room ... just like listening to Barry White by yourself - in a blizzard - inside a Greyhound bus station in Fairbank, Alaska may not help you much, these CD's deliver on the promise of great 'lounge' music - the rest is up to you :-)

There are four in the series so far. They are all excellent with only a few tracks not up to par on each set so you can't really go wrong but there are differences.

EROTIC LOUNGE: The first is the softest of them all with lots of minimalist lounge. A perfect CD to end your evening or the first CD in the morning.

EROTIC LOUNGE - DELUXE EDITION: It's exactly what a 'lounge' CD should be - full of chill beats backed by light jazz beats or bossa nova-like beats. If anyone wants to know what 'lounge' should sound like - this CD pretty much encapsulates what it should be.

EROTIC LOUNGE - SENSUAL PASSION: Along with great 'lounge' tracks, they pick up a beat a bit with tracks that go into trance chill or trip hop - again, all tasteful, fun and aptly cool. On the slightly exotica tracks, they veer from bossa nova to light samba.

EROTIC LOUNGE - BARE JEWELS: This is the least lounge of the collection with most tracks really more trip hop, light trance or melodic acid jazz - nothing wrong with - still a great collection of tracks - just so you know exactly what you're getting.

So whatever the mood you want to set - from 'lounge' where you can easily converse over the instrumental tracks to tracks that will get you in the mood for a fun samba or tracks to lead to you to the bedroom - they're all here. Pick and choose or get them all - you can't go wrong with this series, so far, they're all great.

And hey, the CD cover alone is worth a star :-)

5 out of 5 stars Great CD to listen to in the bedroom.......2005-12-18

I purchased this CD while on vacation in Europe and was blown away. It made every hotel my wife and I stayed in very enjoyable. It is a great CD to listen to from foreplay to finish. It is also a great CD just to throw on and enjoy while inebriated. It also has some great pictures on the inside booklet. I will be purhasing the other CD's in "the art of loungin'" set as well.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Surreal, intriguing, excellent music and recording.......2004-12-27

listening to the music is like enjoying the beautiful surreal movie once again without seeing it. The more I listen, the more I love it - it's the Amercian Dream story, it's the Iggy Pop music, it's the Johnny Depp narrative make it a valuable collectible CD. This is a new version, the recording is excellent.

5 out of 5 stars Masterpiece.......2003-09-02

This is the album that sounds even better without the Movie.
Goran Bregovic mixed traditional european Folk music with more modern styled instrumental and rock music.with this mix and his talent to make a moving and touching songs he created a masterpiece, delightfull voyage to teh darkest and most mysterious places...Goran added sytnhs, bass, delicate guitar (simmilar a bit to mike Oldfield),and a massive wall of drums...Check out "Dreams","Old home movie","Gunpowder","Dreams" and a huge hit "Tv screen" with Iggy pop on vocals.Definitly one of my Desert-island albums,a must have for all instrumental music fans and for everyone as well!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Versatile Composer.......2003-06-30

As most fans of Bregovic know, he is a versatile composer who blends well contemporary music technology with traditional flavors of eastern European gypsy and still manages to remain above the par of the usual techno-studio corporate music that attempts to stamp the "World Music" label on its own concoctions. "Arizona Dream" doesn't disappoint even the hard to please of Bregovic fans.
