The recording and mastering of this album is so bad that I get an headache if I listen to it with an headphone. I would recommended Vol. 2 though, everything is perfect in that album.

Granted, there are some good songs on there, but nothing can compare to the unplugged sessions that were done by Nirvana and Alice In Chains, those two are undoubtedly the two best. If you want some amazing unplugged work, invest in those two instead, I gauruntee that you will not be disappointed.

Acoustic hits you can watch.......2005-05-31

When I saw this disc I thought "Another "Best of Unplugged? Let's see what left-overs were included here".
I was surprised to see that almost all the songs were hits by these artists since the earlier Best Of's included songs I had never heard before.

17 tracks (10 of which were previously unreleased) in their acoustic versions where the standouts are:
Sting - Message in a bottle
REM - It's the end of the world as we know it....
Alanis Morrissette - Hand over feet
Sheryl Crow - Leaving Las Vegas
Kiss - Sure know something

I love Giorgia's voice but this album falls a bit short for her. Not woefully bad, but her studio work is much more polished. This live set has some fun moments and it is nice to hear her sing some songs in English. Stevie Wonder's appearance was a pleasant surprise, too!

With only a couple new songs and some english classics with Giorgia's spin on them, I love this new CD.
Best 24 dollars I ever spent. Worth every penny for all you penny pinchers.

New Concert, Some Old Material.......2005-08-04

I randomly stumbled upon Giorgia, who I believe to be one of the most talented singers in the world, when I was studying Italian several years ago. I've been a huge fan ever since. I think she has an absolutely beautiful voice that is rivalled by few other singers. Judging from other reviews of her albums on Amazon, those who have discovered Giorgia agree that she is one of their favorite singers.

I have listened to most of her albums and own several of them (I'm still building-up my collection). My favorite is, without a doubt, "I Primi Anni", a live in-concert recording from the early 90's. All of the tracks happen to be in English, and her renditions of popular songs are outstanding. I would highly recommend "I Primi Anni" to those wanting to see the extent of her talent. It is hard to get ahold of (you'll probably only find expensive used copies) but well worth it in my opinion. "I Primi Anni" is also sold as two separate albums called "Natural Woman" (my favorite) and "One More Go Round". Copies are occasionally available on Amazon (try the U.S. site as well as the UK, France, and Germany), but often quite expensive. Giorgia's other more recent albums are great, too, and are mostly sung in Italian. This is probably why she is not known by most of America. I don't know whether she will ever develop a bigger following in this country, but if more people heard her sing, I don't doubt that she would be extremely successful here. I have to say that I prefer that she is is more of a secret around here, though I wish her a well-deserved success outside of Italy.

Now about this specific album, "MTV Unplugged: Giorgia". I'd been waiting for this CD to come out ever since I read that Giorgia would be recording an MTV Unplugged concert. I was glad to learn that it was available on Amazon not long after its June 2005 release in Italy. Things I like about this particular CD are that it's a live recording, there are some new tracks, and she does renditions of some songs that I haven't heard her do before. One complaint I have is that there are many tracks I already have on other albums that really aren't arranged all that differently. Also, while Giorgia's voice is always right-on, some of her back-up singers and duets seems a bit off-key. This doesn't bother me too much, but I find it mildly distracting. I think I would have preferred her Unplugged concert to consist only of new tracks and new renditions of popular songs.

I guess what I really wanted was something more along the lines of "I Primi Anni". I'm still happy to own Giorgia Unplugged, and would recommend it to her fans that already appreciate her voice and music. For those who have not yet heard Giorgia, I would suggest starting with "I Primi Anni" or, for Italian tracks, one of her other albums. If you don't mind owning a greatest hits album, check out "Giorgia Greatest Hits: Le Cose Non Vanno Mai Come Credi", which contains most,but not all, of her best Italian songs.

I was in Italy when it aired on MTV, and the show was great!!!
Her single "Infinite Volte" makes this Cd worth every penny.

Barnesy at his Best!.......2005-12-30

His raspy growl conjures mental images of a rough-around-the-edges Joe Cocker. The Scottish-born, Australian-bred, Jimmy Barnes sings every song as a force to be reckoned with. His voice may not ever be described as "pretty" his delivery may never really be "pleasant"-but he is always, pound for pound and dollar for dollar putting everything he has into each and every note he sings. He is to Blues vocals what Steve Ray Vaughn was to Blues guitar. An icon, an example of how it's done right!

The best way to experience Barnes is either live or on a live album. As good as some of them are, his studio albums just don't capture him at his absolute gritty, piss-and-vinegar balls-on best. With his repertoire of live material, both as a solo musician and with his band, Cold Chisel, there is-luckily plenty of material to choose from. But the cream of the crop, the album that rises above all his other live material is his Unplugged Live at the Chapel CD.

From the opener, a very bluesy take on the classic Hound Dog, to the closing cover of the Bee Gees staple To Love Somebody which he puts his own bluesy stamp on the album captures Barnes at his raspy finest. The CD evokes, from start to finish the feel of Saturday night at your favorite dark-and-dusty, sticky floored, dive bar.

Barnes also covers a handful of songs from his tenure in Cold Chisel, from the Vietnam anthem Khe Sanh, to Flame Trees, and Cheap Wine... I realize none of these songs are at all familiar to an American audience-they are some of Australia's best kept secrets just waiting to be discovered by an open-minded American audience sick of the dime-a-dozen, cookie-cutter, flavor-of-the-month starlet or boy band.

this CD is unbelievably wonderful, as well. His rich, loud, penetrating voice, will leave you with cold chills and spinal shivers...and an incredibly euphoric feeling. Jimmy is a rock legend in Australia and I find it hard to believe that the whole world doesn't know about him...THEY SHOULD! YOU SHOULD! If you are looking for a singer with a voice and talent, that nobody else will ever match...this CD is for you. Try all of his CD's!!!!!!

More Than A Greek Treasure.......2000-07-04

When you try to classify Dalaras as a Greek Voice or a Greek Spirit or a Greek Treasure, you miss the most important thing. The man can sing like no one else. If you know the language, you can appreciate the poetry, and if you dont, you cant help but marvel at the voice.

Like others from around the world, like Mercedes Sosa for example, if George Dalaras sang in English, he'd have been deified by now.

On this recording, the band is as tight as can be, whether it is bouzoukee or saxaphone. The arrangements flow like water; and Dalaras takes you by the hand with a voice, and a delivery that you just wont find anywhere else.

A wonderful collection.

A glorious live recording. Doesn't matter if you don't understand Greek. Listen to the spirit of a nation, a voice like the sea, the passion, the pain, the joy. This CD is never far from my player. The only thing better is actually being at a Dalaras concert (and if you ever get the chance, go).

I've had this CD over a year now and it's been a favorite of my family. Along with Haris Alexiou, George Dalaras really conveys the spirit of what is so wonderful about Greek music. So get this CD, and site down with a glass of wine (or ouzo, if you're adventurous) and let the music take you away!

Este unplugged debe ser el más extraño de los hechos por bandas latinas. Y es que los Illya no suenan como un grupo "hecho" para un desenchufado, pero este resultó ser realmente un discazo; logra un ambiente sobrecogedor, tiene algo que hace que cada vez q lo escuchas se te erizan los pelos. Los temas más hip-hop como el mega-exito "Abarájame", "Jaguar house" o "No es tu sombra" suenan increiblemente acordes al concepto de un unplugged, ayudados tambien por un trabajo de acompañamiento perfecto.
Pero realmente los temas más lentos son los que hacen de este disco un fuera de serie; "Hermoza from Heaven" y "Ninja mental" (los temas nuevos) y "lo Primal del viento" -por citar algunos- son verdaderas obras de arte, canciones hechas con el corazón, que realmente dejaron la vara muy alta para los unplugged latinos, a mi entender tan alta que aún no ha sido superada.

Music destroys cultural barriers.......2003-09-24

Ilya Kuryaki and the Valderamas is a band that disbanded some years ago, they hail from Argentina and in South America released a number of highly succesful albums gaining thousands of fans in the process. When I first heard the band, it was the song "Abarajame" which is a funky song with rap vocals. This was one of the first time I had ever heard a Latino group rapping, and to be honest I thought they would be a one hit wonder. Then this album was released some months later and I was shocked to hear this masterpiece. This is an acoustic set that is amazingly pleasing to the ears. Songs from the album "Chaco" in acoustic versions make up most of the album as well as two previously unreleased tracks. "Ninja Mental" and "Hermosa from Heaven" are love songs like I have never heard before. The production is flawless, its so crisp, its like you are their in the concert. This album is the best thing you will ever hear from this band, I recomend it 100%

Un disco en realidad sorprendente, que demuestra la calidad de un gran artista latinoamericano como lo es Luis Alberto Spinetta. La banda que lo acompaña en este MTV Unplugged entiende el sentimiento de las canciones de este genio y saben captar y moverse en la profundidad de las mismas. El solo de piano de "Durazno sangrando" es electrizante y vale el precio del disco de por si. La orquesta que lo acompaña en "Jazmin" es excelente, los arreglos memorables. Absolutely the best UNPLUGGED CD EVER. But where is Maxwell??? He swept on to the scene like a breath of fresh air and disappeared. Maxwell has the voice of angel and sings lyrics that can melt the ice off any scorn woman. Maxwell knows how to make a woman yearn to be in love and make those who are cling tighter to their good thing. Wonderful CD.

Let's face it. If you are reading this you are a fan. You know Maxwell is gifted. This import cd has only one bonus track - till the cops come knockin'- and it is a 2 minute version. It's one of my favorite songs on "UHS" but it really isn't worth the extra bucks for this import. Save your money, buy the domestic version. It is still a great recording of a phenominal singer.
