LOVED this cd. If you love Tanya, or just want an introduction to her music, this is it!

    4 out of 5 stars Excellent CD.......2006-02-17

I heard a Tanya Tucker song on the radio and immediately went to Amazon to see if I could get a CD I liked. Well I found one. This is a great CD that highlights the talent of Tanya. I highly recommend this CD.

    5 out of 5 stars Wow!.......2002-08-24

I bought this CD because of "Its a Little too Late". Tanya's distinct voice and awesome lyrics drew me to the song. Even though I bought this CD for one song in the beginning, I have to say that this CD is a big suprise because I love every song. Usually you get those albums that you skip over songs but not this one! I own 60+ country albums and this one is one of the top 5 that I am always playing. Tanya has the old country sound... none of the pop stuff played today. Some songs are up-beat, but all have great lyrics. Tanya will get your dancing and singing along. A few of my favorites are: "Walking Shoes", Down to my Last Teardrop", "Tell me about it", "Two Sparrows in a Hurricane", Hangin' In," It's a Little too late", "If your heart Ain't busy tonight", & "Delta Dawn". I'd recomend this CD to anyone who loves the REAL country sound!

5 out of 5 stars Tanya's best of the nineties.......2002-07-28

Although Tanya signed for Capitol in 1986 and had many classic hits, this particular compilation focuses almost entirely on her nineties music. Tanya's first Greatest Hits for Capitol appeared in 1989 and the only track from that which is included here is My arms stay open all night. The next compilation was Greatest Hits 1990-1992. All ten tracks from that set are included here.

So, if you want Daddy and home, Strong enough to bend, Love me like you used to, Just another love, I'll come back as another woman, If it don't come easy, I won't take less than your love, One love at a time and It's only over for you, buy that first Capitol Greatest Hits.

One real oldie included here is Delta Dawn, a re-recording from 1991's Greatest Hits Encore, an album which contained re-recordings of ten of Tanya's seventies hits for Columbia and MCA.

There is one previously unissued track for Tanya's long-standing fans (like me), the opening Black water bayou. To me, that alone is worth the price.

The other tracks are all from the nineties, mostly after 1992. You can't fit all Tanya's Capitol hits on a single CD, but if you buy this and that first Greatest hits, you'll have all the essentials.

5 out of 5 stars good overview of one of country's all-time greats.......2002-01-05

Tanya Tucker marrived at Capitol Records in 1986. By then, it had been five years since her last big hit at MCA and her peak recording years appeared to be long behind her. Yet hooked up with Jerry Crutchfield (one of her many producers at MCA),

Tucker immediately hit the top of the charts with a pair of Paul Davis-written tunes dealing with rocky relationships: "One Love At A Time" and "Just Another Love." Her voice was now stronger than ever, and the consistently first-rate material Crutchfield assembled over the past decade allowed Tucker to demonstrate her full versatility, be it rowdy toetappers ("If It Don't Come Easy," "Down To My Last Teardrop"), moving ballads ("Two Sparrows In A Hurricane," "Soon"), bluesy scorchers ("You Just Watch Me ," "Some Kind Of Trouble,") or defiant rockabilly ("Walking Shoes," "It's A Little Too Late").

After one more top ten hit "Little Things" in 1997, Tucker left Capitol, feeling she wasn't getting adequate promotion at the Garth-obsessed label (she was right). Unfortunately, Tucker has not been signed to a label since then. If you don't own any other Tucker retrospectives, this is the place to start with 20 tracks far surpassing other Tucker best-ofs.

Mel Gibson staked $30 million and his superstar reputation on this painstakingly bloody interpretation of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, all the while dodging charges of anti-semitism and fostering excruciating cinematic gore at the expense of Christ's message (a notion that also begs some uncomfortable questions about this version's S&M undertones). But because the film's dialog plays out in ancient authentic language dialects, John Debney's musical score takes on an even more central dramatic role. In some ways an unlikely choice as composer (having cut his teeth on many a lightweight comedy and kidflick) Debney nonetheless rises to the challenge, first conjuring up a synth-laden soundscape whose gothic moodiness should be familiar to admirers of the work of Lisa Gerrard, then seasoning it with indigenous instruments, booming percussion and ancient modalities that give the score an almost palpable sense of time and place. As did Jeff Danna on his earlier score for the gentler, de facto companion piece, The Gospel of John, Debney eventually gets 'round to genuflecting towards some Hollywood choral and melodic traditions (the Gospels themselves having arguably helped lay the original foundations for Tinseltown's venerable three-act structure), but there's nothing cheap about his music of triumph and redemption, rooted as ever in roiling currents of ancient spiritual mysticism. Gibson's vision of the Passion has had many second-guessing his motivations and choices, but Debney's rich, evocative score proves there's nothing wrong with his ears. -- Jerry McCulley

    5 out of 5 stars Incredibly moving.......2007-06-13

I wish I knew all the names of the instruments that are being played in the score because they are absolutely mesmerizing! What an amazing score to accompany an amazing movie. Never a dull moment, I find myself being moved by the overall emotion of the music. The great thing about epic scores is that they manage to stir up some feelings within you of power, pride, and faith. It manages to inspire some in many different ways. I think that's the most important thing here. You can call it mood music or just simply uplifting. For me, the best way to listen to a score like this is with a great pair of headphones and a clear mind.

    5 out of 5 stars Appreciation.......2007-04-15

This has to be the most touching score to a movie I have ever appreciated.
Watching the movie was one thing but then listening to the score blew me away. I could find myself crying just hearing the music and placing it at the point in the story.
What a range of music. So well done and so different. The song selection for the different scenes in the movie just fit. It is as if each song was the perfection for its placement in the movie.
The score can hold it's own in itself but together they are as one.

1 out of 5 stars Not original .......2007-02-16

I recently purchased both The Passion of the Christ soundtrack and Peter Gabriel's Passion. I really wanted to like The Passion of the Christ score, as I loved the movie. Regrettably, John Debney's music is so much like Peter Gabriel's superb Passion soundtrack, used in 1988's The Last Temptation of Christ that it becomes a farce. It even uses Gabriel's long-time collaborator, vocalist and double violinist Shankar, whose unique sound was also used on Gabriel's Passion. The producers also used a piece from Gabriel's Rabbit Proof Fence soundtrack for The Passion's 2003 teaser trailer. There's no doubt that Debney has copied Gabriel. Also the highlight of The Passion of the Christ is a theme virtually identical to one from John William's Born on the Fourth of July soundtrack.

So buy Gabriel's Passion over The Passion of the Christ, it is a magnificent score and far more original.

    5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Soundtrack.......2007-02-03

For me the most inspiring track is "Resurrection". I remember the day that I saw this movie for the first time almost 3 years ago. My friend and I stayed until the end of the credits only to listen to this track. It's my candidate for best final scene in a movie. Now , 'Resurrection" (as the rest of the album) is in my Creative Zen Vision M and I listen to this beautiful piece of music everyday. It's really inspiring. Buy it!!!
P.S. There are so many Jews here and there writing a lot of negative reviews about this soundtrack and the movie. Don't pay any atention to that. This soundtrack and the movie are masterpieces.

    2 out of 5 stars Buy Peter Gabriel's Passion.......2007-01-16

Anyone who knows Peter Gabriel's Passion would agree with me in saying that John Debney's score has taken liberally from Gabriel's incredible work, and a few have written as much in the Online reviews for this item. Do yourself a favor, buy Peter Gabriel's Passion. Even though The Last Temptation of Christ may not have been the best movie, the soundtrack was, one of my favorites. I listen to it often, and each time it takes me to another place.

Another plug along Christian movie lines, The Mission by Ennio Morricone, a masterpiece.

One of the best lyricists I have ever heard (male of female). If you really want good music then you should listen to this album; you will become an instant fan whether you like reggae music or not

    5 out of 5 stars lovely.......2006-08-26

although i dont know much about this artist i purchased her cd without knowing anything about it and absolutly love it.

5 out of 5 stars She Is Real!.......2006-07-03

You know what makes an artiste great? He or she is REAL. And this is what Tanya Stephens is. This album is a classic, even if it didn't match the sales of some of its contemporaries (no fault of hers-Label Issues). But she covered many grounds on this album, and proved that a lady can be admired without being wild/raw/naughty. If good lyrics are what you like, then this album is for you!

    5 out of 5 stars it's a pity it didn't have more tracks ... i was loving it!!!!!.......2006-01-20

People if you don't have this cd yet i suggest you go buy it right now. This is the bomb every single track. Even it's a pity is hot but i must admit i do skip that song sometimes due to the fact that i heard to way to much. They killed that song in Brooklyn it was heard on every street corner, basement parties and block parties. But nevertheless it's hot.
My favourite is "The other cheek" i'm from Trinidad but for some reason i could related to what she is saying in that song.
The next track "Tek him back' is funny but true. I reall can't say anything about "white lie' that song speaks for itself.
All the songs on this album is hot from "i'm woman" to "this is love" to "sounds of tears".
Thanks Tanya for delivering another ever blazing album. Believe it or not i still blast 'tek 9" and 'part time lover"

5 out of 5 stars The realest CD in a long time.......2005-12-02

    5 out of 5 stars Warn Dem.......2007-06-30

This Album is great!!!! I justed wanted to warn dem on the content. If you get this album be careful you will not stop listening to it. Tonya Stephens, I love you!

4 out of 5 stars Skip the skit!.......2007-03-19

I love this whole album with the exception of the parts where Tanya decides to do skits or talk. I think she should cut out the skits and put more songs on the album. This CD is very very good and I love that she is spiritual without being preachy. I love the song that advises us not to look up but to look around. Her vocal skills are as superb as always. I definitely love this album.

    5 out of 5 stars Exceptional.......2007-03-17

I swear I don't work for Amazon, but Gangsta Blues and Rebelution are better together. "These Streets", "It's a Pity" and "Little White Lie" have become radio standards, but these CDs deserve to be heard in their entirety.

Listen to the political content of "Sound of My Tears", "Warn Dem", "Do You Still Care", Keep Looking Up", and "The Other Cheek" and the emotional honesty of "Damn You", "Cant Breathe", "Spilt Milk" and "What a Day".

Now, as I am a nice girl from Upper St. Andrew, there were many times when my neck snapped back of its own volition directing my unbelieving eyes to the stereo as if they could contradict what my ears had registered in the... aah.... explicit lyrics of songs such as "Boom Wuk", "Good Ride" and "Don't Play". But after I recovered from the shock I almost fell over laughing. This girl is funny.

But that is not why I praise her work. My enthusiasm extends way beyond Tanya Stephens' competence as a songstress and the outstanding musical quality of the songs of Gangsta Blues and Rebelution. Its the power of her pen that impresses me. Tanya Stephens has an exceptional mind; she's an original thinker. She boldly challenges concepts that are so ingrained in our culture that they are accepted as unchallengable "givens". There is no holding on to Bob's coat tails here.

I do have serious reservations about her work. I take exception to the self destructive philosophy which informs woman against woman lyrics such as "Still a go lose him" and "To the Rescue". And as I have no tolerance for Gangsta culture, and no intention of cultivating any, I am not amused by the lyrics of "Gangsta Gal". "These Streets" are vicious and ugly; it does us no good to romanticize them.

I will say this though, even though I often disagree with her premise, Tanya's reasoning is always linear.

5 out of 5 stars Another Lyrical Masterpiece from Tanya.......2007-02-07

Probably the best album from Tanya ever. The lyrical content is masterful, she is indeed a true wordsmith. Mixing hard core lyrics with smooth and insightful ballads plus a dose of culture to round it off. Every song is a story, has something to say, be it a lesson learned, a poignant observation, or just Tanya's hard core Rebelution! It all blends to perfection.

5 out of 5 stars This is the best.......2007-02-04

This is her best work what so ever. The songs on this CD are real. I give this a 10

5 out of 5 stars Whatever happened to "Spring"?.......2006-09-22

I have a handful of Tanya "Hits" collections, the best one issued a few years ago with 20 songs on it. Now we get this fantastic collection with 48 songs and my favorite Tanya song, "Spring" is still missing! I can't possibly be the only one who loved this song. Why has it been forgotten? I only have it on an old "budget" cassette that came out years ago. Still, this is the most exciting collection that I've come across.

5 out of 5 stars Tanya Tucker; The Upper 48 Hits 1972-1997........2005-09-17

I purchased this CD for one song and was pleasantly surprised at the number of past hits that ere included on the CD.
Raven Records in Australia put this collection together and along with the biography of Tanya Tucker's ups and downs it is truly the Upper 48 hits CD to buy.
The one song I purchased this for is called, "If It Don't Come Easy", but it also includes "Highway Robbery" which was another traveling song for the open road. "Strong Enough to Bend" is/was another favorite. Disc Two in this album is full of great sentimental hits to beat the break up blues for all.

5 out of 5 stars Tanya's hits from the 70s!.......2006-04-22

The title is misleading as these are not her 16 BIGGEST hits, but in fact her EARLIEST hits (1973-1983; some very hard to find). It has been remastered, but it's not re-recorded thankfully; as it is a delight to hear Tanya's young voice - already then amazing.
I have to give this 5 stars as Tanya is an amazing artist who was way beyond her time with her songs. I do believe that if she was to release her old songs today they would all be a hit.

My favourites on this album: Love's The Answer, No Man's Land, The Man That Turned My Mama On, Would You Lay With Me, Spring and Feel Right!

5 out of 5 stars Exactly What I Was Looking For.......2006-04-09

I like Tanya Tucker, but I'm not interested in owning every one of her hit songs. I had been lookng for a CD that consists mostly of her early hits from the 1970's and I was thrilled to find this one at Wal-Mart. It contains 16 songs (this is a plus because the songs tend to be short), it is remastered, and, best of all, it contains my favorite Tanya Tucker song "Would You Lay With Me (In A Field Of Stone). I have found that this song is often left off of her more contemporary greatest hits compilations. There is a maturity and a toughness to Tanya Tucker's early songs that makes this CD a particularly rewarding listen. From the opening line "She's 41 and her daddy still calls her 'baby'", we know that we are listening to a singer wise beyond her years. It is as though Tucker had already seen and done everything when she recorded these songs. I recently saw a documentary on television about women in country music. In it, Brenda Lee comments that "Tanya just matured faster than the rest of us." Listening to this CD, you'll hear what she means.

4 out of 5 stars Good single disc collection of early years.......2006-03-12

I am usually tired of the endless reissues that the label cranks out but I find this to have some value. First it is a great sampling of her Columbia years. But even better is this has three of her Arista recordings that are rare. For this reason alone I find this collection worth getting. Two of these songs are on the very complete collection called "the upper 48 hits", but that is a bit expensive. This is a lower priced alternative.

From hearty bellowing to subtle and smoky crooning, this pint-sized founding member of Throwing Muses, the Breeders, and Belly sure can sing. The major complaint regarding this album is that it's so short. Hungry Life was recorded live in front of an intimate audience in the lobby of an abandoned Vermont hotel, during the hottest summer in ages. The singer-songwriter, who's at times seemed uncomfortable and tentative in live performance, is far from either here. Donelly's ease in her Ida-esque, plaintive country-rock has never seemed more apparent. The arrangements sound full and fleshed-out throughout; it's frequently easy to forget the songs were recorded live until the audience members chime in at the end. The string-heavy, soulful take on the Beatles' "Long Long Long" is exceptional, while "Kundalini Slide" is a barn-burner worthy of Neil Young. Yay. --Mike McGonigal

2 out of 5 stars All i have now is my memories .......2007-06-07

" I had no idea she was still releasing records ! " gasped a reviewer at an internet music page . He is not the only one . Even sites like popmatters and pitchformedia , known for their indie sensitivities , have failed to notice .It might have to do with the fact that Donelly herself has stopped touring and promoting her work some years ago and chose to focuse on her family . There is a rather neglected site representing her at the web were fans fill the message board with wishes for mother's day , her children's birthdays and even talking about the possibility of Belly getting back together .Most entries overall point out the lack of things to actually discuss. Ofcourse this is a peculiar release itself , a live album yet full of new songs , all recorded at a gig at an abandoned hotel in front of a small audience of devoted followers .

Once upon a time Tanya Donelly might have been hyped as the new princess of psychedelic pop with her band's debut album , Belly's " Star " yet it's been a long fifteen years since then and like everyone , the lady has changed . Her music tastes certaintly have . Donelly herself has become an excellent live perfomer and her band supports her solidly but people who have jumped on board because of her precious tracks with the Throwing Muses , the Belly albums or even the exceptional but little heard solo recordings " Lovesongs For Underdogs " and "Beautysleep " are in for a minor dissapointment . That's not to say that this is a poor piece of work because it isn't ( talent doesn't come and go in a day , you know ) . It's just that ...it seems to adress to a different audience . Like the intimate ballads of "Whiskey Tango Ghosts " , this is less mystical and more down-to-earth and on tracks like " World On Fire " the country elements are stronger than ever .

Ofcourse nowone would expect Donelly to still be singing about possesed toys and most fans are just glad she keeps bother to release stuff anyway . Still , the turn her sounds has taken is rather alienating . At least for me it is. Overall , despite having some wonderful moments ( "Littlewing " , " Kundalini Slide " ) " This Hungry Life "is like one of these meetings you have now and then with an old friend who you haven't seen for years : although you're glad for their happiness , you rather realize that you don't have much in common any more .

5 out of 5 stars One of Tanya's best efforts yet.......2007-05-20

Tanya Donelly is one of alternative rock's most important figures. She has been in some of the most celebrated groups of the underground such as Throwing Muses and the Breeders. Of course, her own band Belly, mastered their own style but quickly dissolved.

This album is my favorite Tanya solo album, inching out Beautysleep by just a tad. Here Tanya is able to mix her supreme pop/rock sensabilties and with her love of country standards. She is able to more than hold my attention through the fabulous ten songs. "New England" is a pefect example of what to expect from this album. It's a nice length, nice catchy choruses and of course the highlight of any Tanya album, that beautiful, soothing voice.

So, to anyone hoping for another Belly album (why would you? it's been over ten years now. Some reviewers are just plain ignorant), don't bother. Tanya is and always will be a lasting figure who does not need popular support to sustain her legacy.

    2 out of 5 stars Disappointed.......2007-03-21

I think there may be a little too much "country" feel to the selections this artist performs, which is not up my alley. However, I can see she is talented, and country/folk fans would probably enjoy the disc very much.

5 out of 5 stars Good service, good product.......2007-01-21

I was pleased with the CD and the excellent service in the holiday season.

    5 out of 5 stars At last!.......2007-01-21

As a long-time Tanya Donelly fan, I'm embarrassed to say that I only recently purchased this album. I was aware, back in 2004, that Donelly was recording a live album, but months--and then years--passed, and the album was never released, and so Donelly fell off my radar screen.

Now that I have the album, though, it is much more than I would have expected. Technically, it's a "live" album, but it doesn't sound like a live album. The recording quality is excellent, and were it not for the muffled applause at the end of each track, I might think that the album was recorded in the studio.

I was also pleasantly surprised that the album consists of new material (with the exception of "Days of Grace" which is a b-side from her "Beautysleep" album. Highlights for me are "To the Lighthouse," "Littlewing," "World On Fire," and her cover of the Beatles' "Long Long Long."

Finally, I'm glad to hear Donelly is again supported by a full band. I consider her previous album, the all-acoustic "Whiskey Tango Ghosts" to be a mostly failed experiment. Donelly's music is always at its best when she's playing an electric guitar and has other plugged-in musicians backing her up.

"This Hungry Life" is a very good album, I just wish I had known about it earlier!

5 out of 5 stars A Great rock record from a country star.......2007-07-11

This is a great rock record that was overlooked by rock critics and fans because she was country and dissed by country fans offended at her attempt to cross over - ironic since most current country sounds more like 70's pop/rock than this does. Her voice is suited to bar room bluesy rock and the covers here hold up against anyone's. I love Bonnie's "Angel" but this one's still solid.

I have to agree with the reviewer that stated that they need to re-release the follow-up "Tear Me Apart" which is much the same, with a couple of my favorite songs on it. It's one of the few recordings from that era that I have left to replace on disc. C'mon Rhino.

4 out of 5 stars PROOF OF PAVING THE PATH.......2006-03-28

This Tanya Tucker album is proof that if it wasn't for her, you probably would not know Shania Twain, Faith Hill or Gretchen Wilson or many other female artists of today. Two classics on this collection of music are worth it all: "Angel from Montgomery", and "Texas When I Die".

    4 out of 5 stars A must-have from Tanya!.......2005-10-19

I have all of Tanya's albums and her songs are surely tunes you put on repeat. This album is not a favourite, but definitely one you need to own.

    1. This song has a rock edge, but it's not quite there. There's too much happening at the same time. 3/5
    2. Beautiful ballad in Tanya style. Not so rock'n'roll at all. 4/5
    3. Very rockish edge and lyrics with attitude. The chorus is a bit annoying, though. 5/5
    4. Ballad. You'll either love this or hate this. I hate it. 1/5
    5. Tanya makes Elvis proud. It's loud and it's great. 5/5
    6. My favourite! It's rock, country, pop and it's such a happy song! 5/5
    7. Another ballad with not that much meaning. 2/5
    8. My favourite! Up-beat, raunchy and happy. 5/5
    9. Ballad. Not much happening here. The title kinda gave that away. 2/5
    10. This is a classic. Mid-tempo tune with great highlights. 5/5

5 out of 5 stars Tanya's bid for rock stardom.......2004-03-14

With her hugely successful pop crossover album, Here you come again, Dolly Parton had shown that it was possible for a country singer to appeal to a different set of fans. So it should not have surprised anybody when Tanya also tried changing styles, though in her case it was for more of a rock sound. The LP cover was intended to emphasize the new style but I wonder if it was a mistake. Some of those who enjoyed the cover didn't take the music seriously because of it while others decided that if Tanya needed to pose this way, the music couldn't possibly be any good. In fact, judged purely on its own merit, this is a brilliant rock album that has nothing to do with country music except for the closing track, Texas when I die.

The album contains several interesting covers, including Not fade away (originally a Buddy Holly song but later covered by the Rolling Stones), Angel from Montgomery (the John Prine classic generally associated with Bonnie Raitt), Heartbreak hotel (the Elvis Presley classic) and Brown eyed handsome man (a Chuck Berry song that was also successful for Buddy Holly). I've heard the famous versions of all these songs as well as some other songs and Tanya's versions stand comparison with the best of them. On their own, they prove that Tanya could rock with the best.

The other songs are also excellent. Lover goodbye was co-written by Phil Everly so this is also likely to be a cover. I'm the singer you're the song is definitely an original, being co-written by Tanya (a rarity for her). The river and the wind, If you feel it and It's nice to be with you are all brilliant rock songs that may well be originals though I can't be sure. So those nine songs show you a different side of Tanya - the rock singer.

But the old saying goes - you can take the singer out of the country but you can't take the country out of the singer. To prove it, the final track, written by Ed Bruce, is one of the most traditional country songs that Tanya has ever recorded - the anthemic Texas when I die. On this original version of the song, Merle Haggard gets mentioned (notwithstanding that he is a Californian). When Tanya re-recorded the song, Merle was replaced in the lyrics by Willie Nelson (definitely a Texan). Die-hard country fans with no interest in rock music can find both versions of this song on other compilations so do not need to buy this just for Texas when I die.

This album will not appeal to all country fans - maybe even some Tanya fans won't like it - but I love it. On the other hand, it will appeal to some rock fans who don't like country music.

    4 out of 5 stars Almost Famous.......2003-08-10

THe best version of this is the LP. With it's large gatefold cover, Tanya Tucker's sexy curves looked hot in black leather. And then there was the inside... Tanya in a tight red leotard. HOT STUFF -- even by rock and punk standards, back in 1978.

The CD is just the music. It's good, but lacks the impact of the original package. Unfortunately, the sexy cover art did not break Tanya Tucker into rock radio, and did not win her a big new audience. Deborah Harry and others had taken Rock fans by storm and TNT was seen as just another cute girl who did Country & Western.

I think this is Tanya Tucker's best CD. Countty and western fans might disagree -- if they never like 'rock music'. But without the LP cover art, it's just "the one you play in the car", not the version you pull out at parties.

    5 out of 5 stars Tanya's early classics.......2002-07-05

With two important bonus tracks (Delta Dawn and Love's the Answer, both from Tanya's debut album) added to Tanya's second and third Columbia albums, this is a far stronger collection than any Greatest hits album from Sony/Columbia. The only significant omission is Jamestown Ferry.

Against that, there are many excellent album tracks, including Tanya's covers of Teddy Bear song, Pass me by, Let me be there, Bed of roses and Why me lord - but this collection is particularly interesting for all the original songs included, many of them thought-provoking, none more so than the opening What's your mama's name?, which asks a child about an unknown father.

Although it's many years since I heard the original albums (I used to have all her Columbia vinyl LP's), Collectables chose wisely in compiling this CD. Tanya's debut was wonderful, but the two LP's that followed it were even better.

This is classic traditional country music. Tanya's voice (a sort of country Tina Turner, if you see what I mean) may not appeal to everybody, but if you like the voice and you like traditional country, this will you suit you ideally.

4 out of 5 stars Early Tanya At Her Best.......2000-07-08

A prior review states all these songs were on earlier albums. This is incorrect. These are two original albums..the second and third of her career. Both contain some of the earliest hits that established her as a force in Country Music. What's Your Mama's Name became her first #1 single. Blood Red and Goin' Down is a classic, Would You Lay With Me also a classic. These were recorded at ages 14 and 15 and both CD's showcase the voice that was once called "An American Dream." For me, the real reason to buy this double cd is that between the two there are nine songs that do NOT appear on any other Tanya CD. They, until now, could only be heard if you had the original vinyl albums. Four of the songs alone are worth the price. Those being.. California Cotton Fields, Old Dan Tucker's Daughter, What If We Were Running Out Of Love and my personal favorite.. The Baptism Of Jesse Taylor. This is early seventies country at its best.

I think this is a great album for anyone who likes TANYA TUCKER. It has songs from her early years that you wouldn't have heard on the radio. All the songs were on eariler albums. They are great songs that shows the range she has in her voice....This is a must for the Tanya fan. ENJOY.
