Jordie Savall and Hesprion XX do it again. I've yet to hear a CD of his that I didn't love. Most of my collection of 15th-17th Century music is English, French, German, and Italian, and I am happy to see the Spanish masters taking their place alongside them.

Very pleasant music, but sorry, this doesn't really do it for me.......2006-10-24

I bought this disc partly because I am enjoying exploring different types of dance music, and was influenced by the reviews below. Which is why I'm writing this review, even at the risk of seeming like a heathen.

The disc is pleasant enough, but I don't listen to it very much and I was very dissapointed when I first heard it. The problem is partly because of my expectations - I had supposed and hoped it would be more.. dynamic. Although there are some fine tunes here, I find myself irritated that many of them are actually so gentle that they are hard to hear properly unless you turn the volume way up. There are a few more lively ones in the selection, but overall I found the disc to have a soporific effect.

All right, all right, it's my subjective criticism, and I've said too much, but I felt I needed to balance out the reviews below.

Follow the Five Star Trail.......2005-07-23

Having been familiar with the works of ALK and The Harp Consort for some years, I was surprised that this bit of "the divine" passed me by. Courtesy of some of the more ecstatic reviewers below, I took a chance and ordered this disc. They are right. So beware: The music insinuates itself into your being. It may not make you a better person, but life can seem better after a bit of this uniquely tranquil, yet spirited, music.

Wonderful, beautiful, sublime!.......2004-08-15

This is one of my favorite Classical albums. The approach to the music by King's ensemble is definitive. What do I mean? King's approach is as definitive as Bohm is to Mozart, as Dorati is to Haydn, and as Karajan is to Beethoven. (Perhaps a better comparison would be those great David Munrow recordings of the 1970s.) Frankly, I have never heard a better program of early music than this. These performances excite, challenge, and invigorate the imagination!

The recording is of demonstration quality. It really is splendid--that "in-the-room-with-you" feeling.

Now the unbelivable part: I found this CD sealed in a bin marked "99 cents" in a store that specialized in rap and jazz! (I go to this store for jazz bargains.) My point: whatever you pay for this CD, it's worth it!

The most beautiful music in the world.......2004-05-19

I listen to this music day in day out..and never tire. It is confirmation of Shaw's theory of world history, which states that the high point of western culture was 1906, and that we are now evolving in reverse: the great beautiful music lies in the past. Modern music is a wasteland of drivel. Open a bottle of fine wine, sit back and enjoy.

I am not an audiophile. I do love this music -- I heard one track on a website and ordered the CD. The whole CD is delightful and very soothing -- but not boring in the least.

Simply the best Granados piano recording we have.......2000-09-17

I encountered this recording, that dates from the early sixties, for the first time on a Musical Heritage Society double LP that one commentator had remarked "sounded like Hispavox recorded it off a public address system". Even so, these wonderful recordings communicated the essence of Granados' inspiration in perfumed and ecstatic performance by Ms. De Larrocha. Now we have this excellent CD transfer that puts everything right sonically and lets us enjoy the music undistracted. Since this recording was not the artist's last word on the subject, why not buy her later performance? The reason is that this is the ne plus ultra of Granados recordings- the summit of achievement that will become one of your all-time favorite piano records.

Gorgeously played, sumptuously written. Nobody can play this music like Alicia de Larrocha. Recording noise notwithstanding, it's still fabulous and I'm buying my second copy.

San Antonio's hunky Emilio Navaira celebrates an enormously successful decade of Tejano music with his band Rio (formed in 1989) on 10 Aniversario. This collection of the artist's strongest cumbia, ranchera, and vals songs makes an excellent retrospective for established fans while serving as a great starting point for those interested in exploring the Tex-Mex genre. Emilio became a Tejano star in the early 1990s due to a successful solo debut, Unsung Highways, and the country hit "It's Not the End of the World." Now, 10 years and a handful of albums later, this retrospective nicely summarizes Emilio's impressive songwriting, upbeat arrangements, and charismatic singing. Particular standouts include "Mi Primer Amor" and "Ella Es," with their mix of cumbia swing and pop sensibility. This novela soundtrack totally rocks! It has cast members in the songs. It has "Juntos" performed by Anahi and HOTTIE Kuno Becker. It also has the theme song "1000X Hora" performed by Lynda. It totally rocks, so you gotta like totally buy before it's off the shelves!

Awesome Soundtrack! Worth Buying!`.......2001-09-20

This is probably the best soundtrack from a novela that I've heard in my life. Ever since the novela came out, I fell completely in love with the story line and the characters, especially one that goes by the name of Imanol. Anyway, I started hearing some of the songs displayed in the novela and I started checking online in music sites to see if they had the soundtrack and now that I have it, I can't stop Listening to them. The song by Iran Castillo, Pienso En Ti, is an awesome song, my favorite one out of the whole album because it relates to the characters in the novela. Another great song is by Valentino Lanus, Por Ti, is such a beautiful ballad where he shows his feelings toward Marina, the girl he loves in the novela. Ana Leyevksa, Innocencia, is such a beautiful song also. It describes how she feels and what she's going through. Definetely can relate to. Lynda, which sings the theme song of the novela, A 1000 X Hora, wrote half the songs and I'm very Impressed how well she did. The best part of the soundtrack is that almost the whole album is sung by the characters in the novela. I've never seen a soundtrack where the characters take part in contributing on the album and I love that. This album relates to everyone and I suggest you buy and liten to it because you're gonna get hooked on it and won't be able to stop listening to it. Soundtrack includes songs from Kuno Becker and Anahi:Juntos, Maria Jose Torres: Prisonero, Fabian Robles a.k.a as La Iguana: Cholo, as well as other artists. Trust Me! I love Primer Amor, My favorite novela ever, in the history of novelas.

Best telenovela soundtrack ever. Really, the novela is not all that great -- actors and their work excellent (isn't Damian so perfectly hateful) but the story line sure could be a lot better. Still, this is probably the best telenovela soundtrack album. The Irán Castillo tracks are worth the price of the album. The fast version of Irán's "pienso en ti" is even better than the excelent rendition on her album "tatuada en tus besos." The hauntingly gothic "1 segundo" brings to mind the unforgetable U2 track "Seconds." The instrumental "India" and the lead track "a 1000 x hora" round out a MUST HAVE CD. It is still fonovisa though, so some tracks are a little out of the mainstream but that's what the next track button is for on our players, eh? These CDs tend to go out of print fast and now that the novela is ending it's U.S. showing (Sept, 2001) you should not delay getting your copy.

My father-in-law just visited us in NYC from Texas and all he kept talking about was this guy Kevin Ceballo. I was riding with him in his car and Kevin's song "Mi Primera Amor" came on the radio and I was like, wow, who is this? Of course I was told it was him and the race was on for me to buy his cd. This guy has a great voice and knows his way around melodies and hooks. He reminds me a lot of Marc Anthony. He's got a very soulful voice and wraps it around runs that are familiar in r&b music, as does Marc. I am primarily an r&b fan, but I also listen to country, pop, rock, and latin, and this guy really caught my ear. His cd will get lots of attention in my player for the rest of the summer!

TERRIFIC VOCALIST.......2001-05-17

I've recently returned from New York where I had the pleasure of watching this new talent of Kevin Ceballos in action and wow he was sensational. Living in Australia its difficult to see great talents like Kevin but when I first heard 'Mi Primer Amor' via lamega.com, I was hooked. The CD was a great buy, but musically speaking no other song stands out more than 'Mi Primer Amor' particularly in the way Kevin dominates the song with his breathing capabilities and his singing registry. I am a timbales player who loves to watch salsa singers take songs and rip it apart with heart and soul and Kevin does that with this song. Many would say that there is some element of Marc Anthony involved in his singing style though Kevin is not as husky as Marc in his high pitched notes. The other songs like 'Por esa mujer'is perhaps the only other worthwhile salsa in the album.The other tunes in the cd demonstrate the variety that this singer has but been a real salsero as I am, I hope Kevin takes on work with other producers like Sergio George and progresses in been another sensation in our latin scene. Que tengas toda la suerte del mundo Kevin...te lo mereces...

I first heard the title song, Mi Primer Amor, on radio and fell in love with it instantly. Kevin's voice projects such feeling, passion and versitality with such songs as Auscencia, What Kind of Man and the up tempo Por Esa Mujer. The most important feature that stands out with this CD is the "quality" of the music under the collaborative production and writing of Ralph Mercado, Isidro Infante, numerous musicians and of course the talented Kevin himself. A definite must for your Salsa collection.
