A beat and a song........2006-12-26

I bought a tape of this about 10 years ago based on hearing one song as background music in a new age store. It has been one of my favorite tapes and now I'm buying the CD. Where Taiko meets calypso.. The drums sound at different notes so you get a beat plus a bit of song. Timeless and cross-cultural. I especially like when the tiny drum pops the beat.

Teaching Rhythms.......2002-01-09

I've used this cd in my elementary music classes for the last 14 years. It's great for working on steady beat and fast/slow. Now that I'm teaching dance, it's excellent for non-locomotor movement and student choreography.

Good beats, okay for dancing.......2001-08-14

I purchased this CD for belly dancing. The beats are good, easy to dance to, and provide something different than the average doumbec drumming. This has different sounds in it - all percussion - which provide some variety. I found some of the beats a little too juvenile sounding, though, to do a provocative dance like belly dance to ALL the numbers on this album. But I think there are three or four that are good to dance to.

I don't know why Amazon or Brent Lewis don't put little samples of any of these incredible ORGANICALLY WELL-PRODUCED CDs for people to listen to; they'd sure sell a lot more copies that way!

Anyway, if anyone out there reading this trusts the taste of yours truly in all the other shinola I've recommended, this is pretty much a RISK-FREE recording, very few people dislike it (none that I know of under 40) and most people are quite blown away by its absorbing 'environment' (and for any crafty bachelors out there trying to impress their new girlfriends, yes, this is one of them records!).

What is it? It's an excellent totally ambient, and believe it or not incredibly relaxing, DRUM record of world and African rhythms! Anyone who's read my reviews knows that i hate yuppie-world-music of any kind, that is watered down semi-ethnic (and quite often disco) music that's like conveniently packaged tourism on plastic to make a yuppie feel well-travelled and above 'the vulgar rabble' without actually disturbing yuppie pre-rogatives of money-making-function in any way. Well, this is one of those rare yuppie-crossover records that unfortunately yuppies may also like, and won't get you any points for being a rebel, but which is nevertheless DEFINITELY HIP enough to pass my test of what I will allow in my CD player.

I first heard this guy's music a couple of summers ago pumping out of some weird store on Venice Beach, and it made such an instant impression on me that I bought it and another (even more impressive but not available for some reason) called "Jungle Moon" right on the spot. Anyway, I just wanted to make all the media-hypnotized drones out there who still have a brain cell or two that thinks on its own aware of this guy, he makes damn good friggin' records!

Cool Techno-Tribal Groove.......2005-03-01

Wow ! This is a real departure from Zingaia's earlier releases and I love where they take me on this new musical adventure. Super cool techno-tribal beats, world rythyms and sampled voices from Africa and the Near and Far East blend beautifully. This release really transports me into a whole other world. While I really love the vocals from Abbi Spinner and Katlyn Breene from the previous releases, this new drum heavy trance inducing excursion from Zingaia is a complete a joy and an amazing listening experience.

Dissapointing!.......2005-02-16

I might like this album better if I didn't already have a fairly large collection of albums by Putamayo World Music which are much better than this! The reason I mention that is that this album reminds of the things that company releases, just not nearly as good.

I have both of their other releases which are superb! They are all about Sacred Sex and praise the Lady and the Lord. This album is bland and boring compared to the other two. The only good thing I can really find to say about it is that it might be enjoyable to drum along with it.

However, I have several other albums I like better which are also good for drumming along with. If thier next album isn't any better I will have to revise my opinion of Zingaia!

Soles on Earth is Out of this World!!!.......2004-10-27

This latest release by Zingaia (their third) is vastly different than their previous releases, both of which I absolutely love. Where their first release "Beneath the Veil" is a trance journey into the seductive heart of the Goddess, and their second release "Dancers of Twilight" featuring the alluring vocals of Abbi Spinner, further develops the original theme, deepening and expanding the voyage into musical spirit; with their latest release "Soles on Earth" Michael & Katlyn Breene and crew launch into a tribal poly-rhythmic trance dance groove that is no less than phenomenal. Middle Eastern, East Indian and African rhythms combine with sampled vocals from around the world to produce an album that sets the mind, body and spirit free to dance joyously to the pulsing rhythms of life. So I have a couple of Govindas albums. I understand their style, their approach, their inspirations. And yes, this particular cd was a bit different from their others. They begin to draw an exotic dance with their instruments. They tease you with the vocals. They are magnificent!

They can provide you with an upbeat experience, or a downtempo drama of your life. They are also great live if you ever have the opportunity to see them. I think that each cd has its own unique flare. So you own a couple of them already? So what! This one is worth the buy... this one is my favorite.

I've just recently started exploring this kind of music after having Enigma in my collection for a long time. I bought this CD after a little research and sampling and absolutely love it, I played it the entire weekend. It flows nicely and has a wonderful techno middle eastern feel to it...great for lovemaking or setting the mood for lifestyle scene. I'd definitely recommend it.

I've had this cd since it came out. Ironically I wasn't even familiar with this artist. What attracted me to it was the cover and I guess the title since I was looking for something erotic yet ambient. I took a big chance because I wasn't able to return it after it was open. I have never been more pleased with a music purchase as I was with this particular album. In fact I still am, it is one of my most favorite cds and it always will be. If you like ambient music with a touch of Middle Eastern flare accompanied with an erotic, and sensuous voice you must get this album. You won't regret it.

exotic/erotic....it works.......2005-09-28

Like some other people, I first heard Govinda's work in the Buddha Bar compilations. This prompted me to buy three albums of his, all excellent: this one (Erotic Rhythms from the Earth), Worlds Within, and Entwined and Entranced.

I highly recommend all three, though perhaps this one is my favorite. His lush, middle-eastern influenced melodies, combined with modern, sultry beats make this CD the perfect album to put on anytime you want to enhance your mood -- or upgrade your friends' musical tastes.

THE best nature CD EVER.......2005-12-09

I purchased this CD during the stressful days of my youth and it helped me relax and appreciate life. This CD, to date,is the best environmental cd I have ever purchased, as it combines so artfully various types of relaxing music along with natural sounds. One doesn't get hit over the head with the sound of locusts, but instead can relax and unwind to a lighter beat.
Highly reccommended, and also, check out the first two deep forests.
