Fantastic! Aweseome! Brilliant!!!!.......2007-05-31

This 3-CD set is definately a must for all Moodies fans and would also be a great introduction for someone who doesn't know Moody Blues music and are inquisitive about the Moodies. This compilation has a lot of songs that you would normally see on a Moody Blues compilation but the treat is, there are a lot more songs that you wouldn't find on Moodies compilations. For Ray Thomas fans, this compilation has 4 Ray compositions on it. Sadly though, it does not include For My Lady. A non-Moody Blues composition, This Is The Moment, that was included on the Time Traveller bonus disc is also included on this compilation. So anyone that might be looking for that song, here it is. There are also two solo songs, one from Justin and one from John that is included in this compilation. In my opinion, of all the Moody Blues compilations that are out there, this is the best one of them all and a definate must for anyone. I'm glad to see that all the Moody Blues members, with the exception of Graeme, have been represented on this new compilation release. So if you want a fantastic Moody Blues compilation, this is the one for you! Hurry, don't delay!!!!!

This "Trilogy" collection is for "Moodies" fans (Or those who want an introduction to The Moody Blues) who want just a little more than the double CD sets, "The Moody Blues Anthology" and "Gold," can offer, but not as much as the "Time Traveller" boxed set, if that makes sense! :)

In a way, "Collected" is an extension of "Anthology" and "Gold." However there are certain tracks replaced with tunes not usually featured on Moody Blues compilations ... Here, we get a pair of Ray Thomas compositions, including the "Days Of Future Passed" CD mix of the cheerful "Another Morning." I enjoy "Dr. Livingstone, I Presume," just as much as "Legend Of A Mind," and on this collection, the former track is crossfaded beautifully with "Voices In The Sky". The lovely "Emily's Song" and "Vintage Wine" also appear, two pleasant and enjoyable tracks. All of the selected Justin Hayward solo efforts and John Lodge's "Carry Me" are all perfect choices to add to the "Moodies Mix." It was also a treat to be served the outstanding "Caught Live +5" tracks, "King And Queen" and "What Am I Doing Here?" Nice to find "A Simple Game" receiving recognition too, even though the mix chosen was the shorter version, from "This Is The Moody Blues," instead of the full version from the "In Search Of The Lost Chord" SACD set. The three tunes from the Denny Laine era, including the hit "Go Now," were nice additions, as well. A gigantic plus to this collection is that "This Is The Moment," from the rare bonus disc in the "Time Traveller" set, returns here! Collectors of "Time Traveller" who missed out on the edition with the bonus disc, can now listen to this beautiful track on "Collected." :)

Most of the other songs on "Collected" feature album tracks taken from "Time Traveller" (Ex: The vinyl version of "Tuesday Afternoon") ... Upon listening closely to the way some of the tracks were crossfaded and edited (Ex. "Never Comes The Day"/"Are You Sitting Comfortably" and the "To Our Children's Children's Children" selections), you can tell the same mixes were used. Also the running order of tracks, by album, sometimes appear out of sequence, making for a refreshing change. Plus, once again, the non-orchestral mix of "Nights In White Satin" makes an appearance. :)

A shame certain essential Moodies tracks like "Steppin' In A Slide Zone," "Sitting At The Wheel," and "Highway" were left out, plus "I Really Haven't Got The Time" and "Leave This Man Alone" (from the early singles) were neglected again. At least "Fly Me High," "Love And Beauty," and the stereo version of "Cities" were showcased again, since "The Singles+." Who knows ... Maybe there will be another 3-disc Moody Blues collection to come, just like "Anthology" followed up with "Gold." :)

To sum up, "Collected" is the one CD set that captures The Moody Blues' music from the "Magnificent Moodies" all the way through to "December" ... I don't believe any Moody Blues compilation accomplished this before, so if you want a collection that features the many styles, stages, and sounds of The Moody Blues, in a nutshell, "Collected" is worth collecting! Great American Blues - superb collection of JJ Cale.......2007-02-06

OK - first this admission: I consider myself a longtime music fan but I was totally unfamiliar with JJ Cale until recently. For years I confused JJ Cale with John Cale who played with the Velvet Underground and decided I didn't need hear John Cale playing solo. Yes, I have deprived myself of years of some of the best American music produced in the last 35 years. I finally introduced myself to JJ Cale through "Road to Escondido" and then bought "To Tulsa and Back."

This is a very nice 3-CD set of great music spanning over 30 years of well-produced guitar-centered Americana. The music here is from the following albums:

I'm not an audiophile so I won't comment on the audio quality but my the audio is crisp and clean throughout so my guess is that great care was taken in remastering this material.

Hopefully, this will be widely available in the States soon. But don't wait - your will not be disappointed with this collection.

Yes I shelled out the money for this assortment of LLoyd's efforts over a four year period and it was well worth it. Not worth [the money], which is what it would have cost to buy new from USA, but at the much lower used price, a good deal to find out what direction Mr Cole has been veering off into. The first disc,which I already had bought here in Australia, is 2001's best album, 'LLoyd Cole and the Negatives'. What a kick [booty] band supporting LLoyd's brillant lyrics and melodies. The standout track is a rather atypical uptempo song called "What's wrong with this picure". Great space in the recording, spot on arrangement and really tight muscianship. On par with "Rattlesnakes" and a wonderful surprise after the rather downbeat, "Love Story" released five years earlier. The overall four star rating is lifted by this masterpiece comeback album. 11 out of 10.

That said, disc two is the interesting failure of "Plastic Wood", which whilst being different, doesn't highlight Mr Cole's strengths, namely his voice, his lyrics and his musicanship. Disc three, 'Etc' is uneven in it's songwriting and sounds like many Cole B sides (not that such things exist anymore) but you get my drift. It is about on par with Love Story, about 6 out of 10. Disc four, 'Loaded' is a live recording that isn't too bad with respect to the choice of song, but the actual recording is not very good. This is even taking into account that it is live.However if you are like me and live in far flung part of the world, like Australia,it is the closest you get to hearing Lloyd in his spontaneous glory.

The real icing on the cake (or case) as the case is, is the exquisite packaging the 4 cds come in. Not cheap plastic but a really beautiful crafted and minimalist design package that encloses 24 great pages from LLoyd with photographs and extensive writing from the great man himself.

So all in all a good package deal particularly for all those fans who miss his music and wish he would release more albums. Oh well beggars from great pop music, can't be choosers.

It is vexing to ponder why Mae Moore is not an international superstar. If you listen to this CD you will hear an amazing vocalist with great range, emotion and passion. She surpasses the
venerable Jane Siberry as a lyricist, singer and musician(Jane Sibery is one of the world's greatest). This Collected Works CD is replete with diverse songs of joy, yearning, lament, celebration, sadness and some literally exalt with celestial fervor. Mae Moore is inspiring, edifying, mystifying and sanctifying ! Her music is absolutely phenomenal ! She is also an environmentalist and vegetarian who cares deeply about our planet.

If you're just getting into Mae's music, "Collected Works" is the place to start. It has all of her hits, plus remixes and rare songs. I have no clue as to why Mae hasn't made it in the United States, but give this amazing Canadian artist a try, especially if you listen to Sarah McLachlan, Natalie Merchant or Jann Arden.
