GAARIALAN BLUGRAYE,COMPOSER AND PROGRESSIVE FLAMENCO GUITARIST--BIOGRAPHY:
As with most artists who break with convention, Garialan Blugraye started out learning and working within rigid structures, and after studiying under the Master Flamenco Guitarist, Juan Serrano for several years, Garialan began to compose his own compositions and develop his own unique personal style. The art of Flamenco guitar is just now coming into it's own, and Garialan has taken it a step further by creating a new sound dimension for the Flamenco guitar he calls Progressive Flamenco. Garialan's compositions are a remarkable adventure into that wonderful new world that combines experiment with known forms and styles that show reverence for traditional form while using it as a catalyst for new creation.
Garialan Blugraye's 1994 CD release "Fire Rose", was his first venture into that new world with an original an innovative composition that beautifully incorporates a traditional Flamenco style with the brilliant and powerfully moving sounds of new age embellishments with a strong emphasis on melody, harmony, and rhythm.
Traditional yet artificial and inhibiting musical categories are steadily becoming obsolete. More and more new music finds no neat slot in conventional record bins or on radio station play lists. Garialan Blugraye's 1997 CD release "Duns Scotus/New Age Symphony No.1 for Guitar" may well create the missing slot we have all been searching for; the New Age/Classical category. It's been said of this composition "What is this music? Is it Classical? New Age? While musicologists may not have the answer you will when your hear it!"
"Fire Rose" and "Duns Scotus/New Age Symhony No.2 for Guitar" are currently being aired on over 300 radio stations internationally on programs such as Chris Felcyn's "The Listening Room" on WDET-FM, John Diliberto's "Echoes", on his PBI weekly syndicated radio program, and CBC Public Radion sstations throughout Canada.
Garialan's latest work "Picnic Interlude/Symphony No.2 for Guitar" was a natural progression that evolved out of Garialan's deep reverence for classical music. The composition of Symphony No.2 was an ambitious untertaking Garialan was compelled to complete by the pure love of the creation. The Classical music listening audience will be delighted with this CD.
While concentrating on composing and recording Garialan contines to tour extensively, as he has for many years, with Dame Maria del Carmen's, Grupo Espana/ Spanish Dance Theater, and performs traditional flamenco guitar at Sangrias resturant in Royal Oak, Michigan, and at Alegrias resturant in Farmington Hills, Michigan on selected weekends. Garialan is a native Michigander and resides in Berkley,Michigan, but is most often found on the shores of Gitche Gumi, better known to some as the largest freshwater lake in the world, Lake Superiour.
