About the Artist
Luis Moreno, vocals, guitar

Born in Boyle Heights, California, Luis Moreno began playing the guitar and singing in high school. During his childhood years, he often heard Mexican and South American music at home, but didn’t become interested in it until he met Daniel Valdez, of El Teatro Campesino. Luis joined El Teatro Campesino in 1973 and performed with the group until 1990 when he moved to Santa Barbara. While performing with “El Teatro” Luis began his love affair with his Mexican roots, and with Mexican music. His strongest musical influences were from Daniel Valdez, David Silva, and Francisco Gonzalez. Once in Santa Barbara, Luis performed in the traditional Mexican morality play “Una Pastorela”. It was there that he met Mike Mullins and Barrett Nelson. Luis has been recorded on albums and videos produced by El Teatro Campesino, and is currently recording a collection of songs from the Mission and Rancho periods of Early California in collaboration with Elizabeth Erro Hvolboll.

Mike Mullins, mandolin

San Francisco Bay Area born Mike Mullins took up guitar at the age of ten, mandolin at age twenty and has been an active participant on the international acoustic music scene for over two decades. In 1990 he co-founded the Acousticats with longtime musical cohort Phil Salazar, doing double duty on guitar and mandolin before leaving the group in 1992.

In addition to his five year musical partnership with Luis Moreno, which showcases his formidable mandolin skills, he has since 1993 been guitarist and resident songwriter for Santa Barbara's renowned "beyond Bluegrass" ensemble, the Cache Valley Drifters.

Mike lives in Carpinteria CA with his wife, Laura and son Tim. He keeps a busy performance and studio schedule and to date has appeared on over thirty recordings, including the critically acclaimed 1996 John McEuen release, "Acoustic Traveller".

Barrett Nelson, guitar

Guitarist Barrett Nelson has been playing for 38 years – performing since he was 11 years old. His musical abilities also include songwriting, arranging, composing, and vocals. In addition to extensive studio and live performances, Barrett has worked with El Teatro Campesino, San Francisco Mime Troupe, and with Jazz and Blues legend Barbara Dane.
