Iggy historians- reavaluate this album!.......2007-04-26

In all three of the recent Iggy biographies- "Open Up & Bleed" by Paul Tryanka, "Gimmie Danger" by Joe Ambrose and (best of all) "Complete Iggy Pop" by Richard Adams- "Naughty Little Doggie" is given a sub par write up, usually dismissing it as "dull". NOT SO! True, this album is by no means, another "Funhouse", "Raw Power" or "Lust For Life" but, in 1996, it was the most energetic album he'd dome since any of those. And, yes, this was primarily Iggy's attempt to cash in on the Grunge scene (which he created with "Funhouse") but he succeeded!
Iggy's second-best album of the 90s ("Brick By Brick" was the best) "Doggie" has some of his most powerfull (musically & lyrically) songs: "I wanna live", "innocent world", "to belong", "heart is saved" and the eerie balleds "outta my head", "shoeshine girl" and the Johnny Thunder memorial "look away". Not just for Iggy completists! Give this CD another listen!

Put out in 1996,until here recently I was never even aware of this Iggy Pop catalog title.Maybe not Iggy's best work,by ANY means but still decent.Tunes I thought were,at least worth mentioning are "I Wanna Live",the down and dirty rocker "Pussy Walk","Outta My Head" and his well played Johnny Thunders(NY Doll's late guitarist)tribute "Look Away".Fair weather fans may not get as much as I did out of this title,but the completists and die-hards can tell you it's fairly good rock&roll,Detroit style.

This CD rocks all the way through. One of Iggy's best. Raw guitar, vulgar lyrics, great riffs. Buy It!!!

Not Iggy's Best.......2005-01-19

The sound on this album is grungily unnerving, especially after a complete listen. "To Belong" is one of the strongest tracks, lyrically and musically. It has a great individualistic theme. "Pussy Walk" is not funny (like "Pussy Power" on Brick by Brick is), not sexy, not fun; it's disgusting and unlistenable. The album cover is depressing, and so is much of this CD. Get it for 1 or 2 good songs; otherwise, you'd do better with just about any other Iggy CD, whether before or after this one.

Stripped down, raw 'n' dirty rockage from the Ig.......2003-10-26

"Naughty Little Doggie" is one of Iggy Pop's more underrated albums, but is a gem, nonetheless. Thom Wilson's production eschews much of the commercial/radio-ready sound of the previous two albums ("Brick by Brick" and "American Caesar") and sounds a lot like a late-70s era punk rock record. Iggy's songwriting is great, par usual, with paeans to the usual suspects--sex, eternal youth, drugs, consumerism.... The sung/spoken piece "Pussy Walk" is classic Iggy--coming from anybody else, it would sound incredibly crude/cheesy, but coming from rock & roll's celebrated "dirty old man" it really works, and so does the fist-pumping "Heart is Saved," "I Wanna Live" and the vaguely Ramones-y "Keep on Believing." A very strong album.

The BEST, high-energy party for your ears!.......2007-03-16

Ahhhh...the Jungle Dogs. I was actually online looking for their Halloween DogLeg CD.....I have owned all of their CD's for many, many years and this is the only one missing from my collection. If anyone out there has it, PLEASE contact me!!!! I've lost it in my many moves around the Caribbean....It's probably at a beach bar in St. Martin or Jamaica!

This featured CD, Throw 'Em A Bone will have you dancing....even in the car. All the tunes are catchy, happy, and positive. This band is one of the "tightest" bands I have ever heard...live or on disc. It is a must have for collectors of reggae, ska, calypso.....as they used to advertise themselves....rockreggaecalypsoskafunk music!!!!

College SKA.......2005-12-02

If you are a fan of classic ska this is a must for your collection. This fantastic band burned up the the strip in Carbondale Illinois in the 90's with blazing horns, a driving beat and well timed guitar licks. When the dog's would play the Hanger it would always be a packed house.

"Throw 'Em A Bone" is their debut cd followed by "Every Dog Has His Day". There are a few more in there and I don't know what the boys have been up to lately. With any luck they still have the dance floor jumping. So to Larry, Chop, Dan, and the rest of the boys keep the beat alive!
