Album Description

Jazz vocalist Thelma Carpenter is best remembered for her film roles in The Cotton Club and The Wiz, but she started her career much earlier as vocalist with the bands of Count Basie, Teddy Wilson, Duke Ellington, and Coleman Hawkins. The twenty-six tracks on this CD feature her early recordings, from 1939 through the early 1950s. Many are appearing on CD for the first time, and include performances by Coleman Hawkins, Count Basie, and Teddy Wilson.

Great Barbershop Quartets.......1999-07-19

I came in for just a couple of songs and came out with a great album. This CD is great. My favorites were song numbers 1, 10, and 17. Good Listening. It is well worth your money.

Solid, if unspectacular..........2006-08-26

This album was given to me as a gift, and I knew nothing about Jason Myers. This album is very pleasant, though I would describe it as somewhat unremarkable. I listen to it frequently as background music at work or at home. His ability on the piano is solid. I enjoy this album and would recommend it to anyone who likes jazz piano music.
