Stunning & Sophisticated.......2007-06-03

This 2005 French album "Un Autre Univers" by Australian singer/songwriter, Tina Arena, is her most stunning & beautiful album to date. It transports the listener into a world of musical sophistication and class. I cannot speak French but this is no barrier to truly appreciating this album. The songwriting, the vocals, the production, the style - each is of an exceptionally high standard. The lead single "Aimer Jusqu'a L'impossible" was a massive hit in France in 2006. Other standout tracks include: "Je M'appelle Bagdad", "Si Tu Veux Mon Coeur", and "Il y a Des Jours". But favourite tracks aside, the entire collection is a must for any existing Tina Arena fans & any newcomers looking for an introduction to this exceptionally talented & beautiful singer. I sincerely hope that this is not the last of Tina Arena's French recordings because this style of music suits her perfectly 5/5.

I've only heaerd bits and pieces of her previous work, but this CD has made me into a great fan. The uniqueness of doing an album in French with eastern influence is a nice touch to say the least. The reason I purchased the that I saw her video of "I love Baghdad", and it tweaked my interest. Good stuff all around.

Incredibly beautiful.......2006-09-13

I've only heard "Just Me" and this album. I don't speak a lick of French but this album blew me away. I don't care for her songs (so far) where she sings in English. But when she sings in French it is sublime. This is one of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard. And her voice is unbelievable.

I have always been a fan of Tina Arena ever since her first album "Strong as Steel" and "Don't Ask" and have always been thrilled by her performances later in "In Deep" . Songs Like "Strong as Steel", "I Believe", "Chains", "Show me Heaven", "Heaven Help my Heart", "Burn", "No Shame", "If I was a River", "If I didn't Love You", "I want to spend my Lifetime Loving You",etc...are all immortal songs! The albums "Souvenirs" and "Just Me" introduced me to the other side of Tina Arena: the great French singing Australian artist. "Souvenirs" introduced me to "Aller Plus Haut" and "Les Trois Cloches" - two exceptional performances, then a limited release of "Just me" introduced me to "Si je ne 't'aimais pas", "Tu es toujours là", "Coeur de Pierre" - all so unique and adorable along with her wonderful English songs as "Tangled", "You made me Find Myself", "Symphony of Life", "Woman", etc... This is great. Even though her accent isn't really French compared to other French divas, she is able to evoke emotions with this album by her powerful & melodic voice. My favorite tracks are Aimer jusqu'à l'impossible, Si tu veux mon coeur, Il y a des jours, Changer, Si j'avais le temps.

The CD cover isn't pretty at all. This is what I don't like about this album - but "c'est pas de probleme, je t'adore deja, Tina!"

In many respects, Lily Pons was the Galli-Curci of her generation: a winning combination of good looks, charm, an appealing and non-confrontational timbre, and easy facility in the stratosphere. Those who learned the "Mad Scene" from Lucia di Lammermoor or the "Bell Song" from Lakmé via the original 78s back in the 40s will be bowled over by the vivid detail and lack of background noise in these stunning Sony restorations. First-time listeners will marvel at her effortless passagework and high notes (she often transposed her arias up on records); but may be put off by a slight thinness in the middle register (not evident in her Odeon recordings from the late 20s), sketchy intonation at times, and expedient aspirating in downward scales. Although these selections encompass a gamut of stylistic and emotional contrasts, you'd scarcely know it from the singer's pleasant but characterless interpretations, which tickle the ear without quite racking the brain. --Jed Distler

This could have been recorded yesterday, the sound quality is excellent and without blemish. By far the best recordings of Pons I have, and I would like to have others. She reminds me of Jo, separation of notes, clear, real trills, a range to rival Sumac, flexibility to perfection, and always that today neglected once standard fare of the coloratura, the requisite leap to the top note at the end of an aria. And a pretty sound. I love this album.

Terrific music, as is everything I've heard by Lo'Jo. However, the same album is available under a different name for a bit less (in the US, at least) as "Au Cabaret Sauvage." As far as I can see, it's just a matter of packaging and markets; the tracks are the same.

Great song and good remixes.......2002-09-06

Second single off the greatest hits compilation "Les Mots", and it does not disappoint. A very uplifting melody set with not-so-uplifting lyrics (the lyrics could very well be about suicide...but in typical Mylene Farmer fashion, the true meaning remains ambiguous). The remixes offered here are of good quality:

Elegie's Remix Club: The song receives a standard extended club remix, clocking in at 7:10. Nothing fancy or inspiring - just a decent beat to dance to.

Such a Beautiful Day's Remix: Now this gets a bit more interesting...the arrangements are simplied, but this does not take away the song's charm. 8:05.

What a souci's Remix: An unobstrusive tropical beat drives this remix. About the same length as the original song at 4:10.

Again, nothing ground breaking here. However I much prefer remixes where the original melody could still be discerned. A good buy for Mylene collectors.
