Awesome Sound.......2007-04-10
I've got both studio albums (which are pretty darn good), and usually I don't like many live albums since the sound quality sometimes leaves things to be desired.
That's not that case with this album. It's very high quality CD and DVD sound. It's like a "best of" album in an acoustic version (duh), and I like it so much I listen to the acoustic versions of these songs more than the studio versions! The intro to "The Truth" is awesome, and I like the cover of Pearl Jam's "Immortality" much better than the original.
Well worth it... even if you don't own any other Seether albums.
Seether One Cold Night.......2007-03-13
Great album, Great DVD, even video & interveiw.
Must buy
JUST GET EEEEEEEEEEET ! ! :).......2007-02-02
I like all kinds of music, really like Seether, and love this CD. All of their hits acoustic...it just rocks, and it was recorded well. On a good system you can hear all the instrument details! MUST HAVE!!
Good 4.......2006-11-11
I had their first CD, and while it was good, the songs werent anything spectacular. So it was hit or miss for me. Soetimes id play a track or 2, so when K&E came out i never bothered with it.
I was browsing in the store and saw this. The ambiance on the cover kind of sucked me in. I tend to like this acoustic style stuff. Looked at the tracklisting and figured these songs could sound good in this setting. So i picked it up.
And as i figured, they pretty much play it safe and go note-for-note with the studio stuff. Not a bad thing, but nothing risky is attempted here except possibly the Pearl Jam cover of "Immortality" which is really well done. The sound quality is crisp, and the delivery is sincere..
So i will say that this CD got me re-interested in these guys a bit. I always liked Morgans laid back singing style. Lyrically, some are quite good. Some a bit hollow, but arent terrible by any means. Just a bit basic. If you liked Seether before, youll LOVE them after this. If you were a bit reluctant, this is a great place to start.
Way better!!!.......2006-10-29
I'm a big fan of Seether and was eager to get my hands on this album, and i wasn't dissapointed at all!
This cd was everything i wanted out of a live performance and much, much more, there was even a song i hadn't heard as i didn't have the first album.
Worth every penny!

Amazon.com's Best of 2000
His distinctive Texas vocal twang has always shone on ballads, and on the sublime One Endless Night, singer-songwriter Jimmie Dale Gilmore sang some of his best yet. Whether performing soulful covers of fellow Lone Star talents or a country-noir version of "Mack the Knife," Gilmore continues to prove himself one of country music's most enduring artists. --Jason Verlinde
Amazon.com
Though often praised as a songwriter, Jimmie Dale Gilmore mostly considers himself a "song lover." Thus it should come as no surprise that 10 of the baker's dozen songs on One Endless Night are covers. Nor should it surprise anyone that Gilmore's distinctive plaintive twang so effectively conveys his passion for these songs. On his first record in nearly four years, Gilmore looks to his fellow contemplative Texans to provide much of the material here: songs by Townes Van Zandt, Walter Hyatt, and Willis Alan Ramsey join a pair from fellow Flatlander Butch Hancock. Add to that songs by "outsiders" like John Hiatt, Jesse Winchester, the Grateful Dead (a lovely reading of "Ripple"), and even Kurt Weill (a spooky reading of "Mack the Knife"), and you get a sense of who Gilmore is as an artist: entrenched in country music, he also has an open and curious mind, a wandering spirit, and an affection for timeless melodies. Boasting an assortment of guests, including coproducer Buddy Miller (another firmly rooted freethinker), Emmylou Harris, and Jim Lauderdale, One Endless Night is as vast and dusty, as soothing and warm as the high Texas plains. --Marc Greilsamer
Customer Reviews:
Probably his best album,..............2007-06-05
but I'm open for recommendations. Sometimes he reminds me of the awesome "Grateful Dead" when he sings "Ripple". Just like the Dead, he has a bit of country, a bit of blues, even some Zydeco sounds in the background in some songs. I've never understood why he isn't bigger than he is. He's so much better than so many of the country singers today. I've wondered if it's because he's protecting his own songs. That's a killer career-wise.
I'd love to have an album of Jimmie doing nothing but Jimmie Rodgers' (who he was named after) best songs. His "Standing on a Corner" is just awesome.
4 1/2 stars........2007-04-05
i had a dream last night. i dreamed that i lived in a world where toby keith, vince gill and garth brooks were anonymous individuals, perhaps working in construction, and that the most lauded and famous country music stars were fellas named "billy joe shaver," "buddy miller," and "jimmie dale gilmore." what a great dream. and when i awoke i was sad, because i remembered how the world really was. i just wanted to go back to sleep and dream some more.
Take a ride and listen!.......2006-10-06
Jimmie Dale's music is best listened to when you can hear the stories in the songs. Take a nice drive, crank up some quality stereo sound and enjoy this all way around. Not only is there storytelling in these selections, his voice is so unique, and the music is fantastic. I love all these songs.
The first time I ever heard of Jimmie Dale was back in the early 80's, when a video accompanied his song, "My Mind's Got a Mine of It's Own", which is NOT on this collection. I copied the video, but never pursued the singer further. He certainly surpasses the manufactured singers today and even back then when the pretty boys were the rage.
I ran across this at a garage sale and was happy to reintroduce myself to a wonderful singer, a voice of his own and a style that cannot be compared to anyone. The music is folksy-country. Whether he does covers or his own, listen to the sound of his voice. You won't recognize Bobby Darrin's "Mack the Knife" The title song One Endless Night is equally great. And one of my favorites is "Banks of Guadalupe"; I love the guitar rhythm and No Lonesome Tune. Every song is enjoyable with excellent background vocals! That's why you can pop this in and enjoy the ride! .......MzRizz
Doesn't Quite Make It.......2002-03-15
This CD is just good, but with all the great music in the world, I'm sorry I bought this one. I bought it with the other reviewers' statements that this was the return to the styles of After Awhile and Spinning Around the Sun, but though it is fortunately nothing like Braver New World, it's nowhere close to the quality of those first two. I love both the spare arrangement of After Awhile and the lush, drugged arrangements of Spinning, but One Endless Night fails to really distinguish itself from lots of other country/folk with solid, quality musicianship. Throughout my first listens to One Endless Night, I kept waiting for Gilmore's voice to push past its beautiful distinctiveness into the kind of elastic keenings and embraces it's capable of at its most powerful. I have come to love the darkened warmth of that voice that can suddenly whip you into a ghost world of rocks and standing demons, push you into harrowing areas of emotional discomfort and wells of trembling grief, only to set you back down home as it passes with an ironic smile. We usually come away from a listen to Gilmore a little wiser and happier, but this time it was just nice. Gilmore seems to be the kind of artist that's better when he's more selfish than what his seemingly genuine humility allowed him to be on this CD. He needs to take over, because he's a really abnormally great vocalist, there's a whole wilderness of love and canyons and loss in that voice, and something this tame was really disappointing.
By the way, I saw Gilmore live about five years ago with a then-19 year old guitarist named (?) Rhodes. That Rhodes kid was amazing. If anyone knows anything about what he's been doing and if he has any recordings available, I'd appreciate an email.
Worth driving to New Jersey for!.......2001-08-12
I got turned on to Jimmie Dale with his Spinning Around the Sun cd and proceeded to go out a get all of his solo recordings plus recordings with Butch Hancock and a few Joe Ely as well (all flatlanders). In my opinion, you can not go wrong with Jimmie Dale. His voice is unique and an acquired taste (just like Dylan's, once you like it, you end up loving it). This cd is standard fare Jimmie Dale, which like standard fare Van Morrison, is outstanding! More cover songs on this one than usual, but JDG's interpretations are top notch country/folk/americana/heartland songs. "Ripple" stands out sounding like the grateful dead on acoustic guitars (just like the GD's Reckoning cd)If you are a newcomer to JDG this is a great place to start. If you are a fan, like myself (who drove from southern Delaware to see him live at Appel Music Farm in NJ!) you will continue to be a fan who anticipates his next release.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......2007-01-19
To anyone who appreciates choral music, or even some of you who only like to listen to it during the holidays, this is the album for you. The music is so familiar, but so aesthetically pleasing to listen to. The choir sounds clear and majestic from the clear sounds of the basses to the beautiful pings of the sopranos. Forget the garbbled sounds of Choirs with people who think that singing in Forte the whole way through is beautiful. This is angelic, yet very fun to listen to. Enjoyment for the whole family. 5 Stars
Perfect.......2005-12-02
This CD is worth buying for the track Prepare the Way alone. All the tracks are amazing, but that one is the best.
Classic Dale Warland.......2003-10-31
As has been the case with most DWS recordings, this is truly a classic. Beautifully sung, with new and interesting arrangements of traditional favorites, this disc is a must for all holiday music and DWS fans. Of note are Stephen Paulus' rhythmic "The Holly and the Ivy" and Praetorius' beautiful "Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming" arranged by Jan Sandström. I highly recommend this recording.

A must!.......2005-09-26
One of the most beautiful, well-made choral CDs to be released anywhere in recent memory. A must for any choral enthusiast. Wonderfully fresh, gorgeous, and challenging program. One or two of the tracks, such as Busto's Ave Maria and Part's Magnificat are slightly below the choir's standard of excellence, but it is easy to forgive considering the incredible performances on the rest of the CD. The Penderecki, Houkom, and Paulus in particular are absolutely ravishing; I truly don't think choral singing has ever gotten closer to perfection.
dale warland singers.......2005-07-01
once again the dale warland singers have produced a recording of wonderful singing and terrific (while perhaps slightly obscure) repertoire. this eclectic recording of lesser-known choral works is truly worth purchasing. from the simplistic beauty of "little tree" to the fresh dissonances of "the rune of hospitality", this recording is a treasure. however, i would recommend it to those with an experience ear.
Very fine collection - well sung.......2003-06-12
At times I have not been terribly impressed with albums like this from American choirs, but this one is very good indeed. It's certainly an eclectic collection, including music from around the world. The singing is almost always exceptional, with some outstanding interpretations of the lesser-known works. My favourites would have to be the two settings of 'Ave Maria' by Stravinsky and Javier Busto (a Basque composer, who has developed a wonderful choral-writing style). Also of note are Part's 'Magnificat' and Poulenc's 'Quem Vidistes Pastores'.
I highly recommend this recording - as other reviewers have said, it's worth playing all year round (in New Zealand, the stillness is in July anyway - not December!).
One of the great choral recordings.......2002-04-20
Minneapolis-based conductor Dale Warland directs this superb chorus that specializes in 20th-century music. The collection here is an outstanding demonstration of the group's artistry, with some compositions by well-knowns such as Stravinsky and Arvo Prt, and others that are relatively unknown.
It's hard to choose favorites from such a line-up, but the vocal and artistic highlight for me is Penderecki's "Song of Cherubim" - an absolutely stunning piece sung with the precision that is one of the hallmarks of this group. Alf Houkom's "The Rune of Hospitality" has a gorgeous melody that resonated in my head for days afterward. I also like Trond Kverno's magnificent "Corpus Christi Carol," and Stephen Paulus' quietly moving "Evensong." But every single track is a gem, and throughout the program, this remarkable group demonstrates impeccable technique and ensemble unity.
American Choral Classics has done this project justice with sound of crystal clarity and presence. When coupled with such artistry, the result is one of the finest choral recordings I have ever heard.
Don't be deterred by the "holiday" nature of the collection. The music and the performances are of such a high caliber, you'll want to listen to it year-round.
Well-compiled and sung lesser-known works for the holidays........1999-08-27
This is a very well-conceived collection of mostly lesser-known choral gems for the holidays, combined with a few more famous selections. For years, Warland has championed the cause of otherwise obscure choral works, as well as choral composers whose works deserve a broader audience. The benefit to these composers, their works, and the discerning listener, is the consummate professionalism, musicianship, artistry, and craftsmanship with which Dale Warland, his singers, and even the recording engineers and technicians lend to their album projects.
As a former student of Dr. Alf S. Houkom, composer of "The Rune of Hospitality" (found on this recording), and a choral conductor myself, I rejoiced in the knowledge that this work, and others like it, are finally getting the exposure, as well as the professional treatment, that they so richly deserve. Bravo, Mr. Warland, and thank you for the gift of this album. This is truly in the spirit of the season.

Wonderful music for the season.......2007-01-10
Beautiful songs sung with clarity, interpretive artistry and attention to blend. Some of the more particularly lyrical songs (e.g. Zgodava's Out of Oriental Crystal Skies, and Paulus' Sing Hallelu to name two) are not found in more common choral album Christmas repertoires and are a delight to experience for the first time.

Can't Believe It's A Live CD!!.......2004-05-13
It is hard to believe that this is a recording from a live concert. The audience is noise is almost non-existent and the performance is so pure and precise that it feels like a studio recording. What sets it apart, however, is the passion and emotion that is communicated when I listen to it. Dale Warland brings out the very best in his singers and allows me to feel like I'm really experiencing something fresh and of the moment. There are lots of great recordings of this work, but this is one of my favorites. Another superb recording from America's finest professional choir.

Spirit Lifting and Soul Moving.......2004-12-24
I picked up this CD by accident. To much of my surprise, I was so moved from the very first song, until the last note of the CD. It not only makes me wanting to listen to it over and over again, it makes me to sing along with some of the songs. Irish blessings is a great song, and the chorus makes it even a better song. I highly recommend this CD.
