4 out of 5 stars hmmm .. definitely not a dvd.......2005-12-01

i bought this thinking it was the dvd of the series ...but it was a music cd from the series.. don't get me wrong as a music cd it is great, and i fully intend to keep it. but, someone should fix the product description ... please.

5 out of 5 stars Buy the CD for just two of the songs.......2002-07-25

It's not often that I run into a compact disc accompanying a film that I return to again and again for college teaching, but this is one of those pairs. *Bringing It All Back Home* is certainly worth owning for the performances of "Kilkelly" and "Sonny," two of the most powerful English-language songs of the Irish-American diaspora ever written. Both songs are heard in wonderful performances (and seen in performance in the filmed version). "Sonny," however, is the true show-stopper. The voices of Emmylou Harris, Mary Black, and Delores Keane seem to have been fated to fit together, and their musicianship makes a simple song complex and subtle.

Don't look for a compendium of Irish traditional music here. This album (especially, of the three volumes in the set) is drawn from the film and thus fits the film's outline, not that of an anthology producer. Gathering such a lineup was a feat in itself, and the collection is both substantial and entertaining.

3 out of 5 stars OK but a better collection could have been had.......2001-09-18

This actually applies to all three albums which are a compilation of the Irish influence on American music. While many of the songs are interesting - I believe there are much better sets.

3 out of 5 stars 3.5 - Sheds light on indie Michigan acts.......2003-09-11

Buka Ent. is the record label owned by the Lone Catalysts and features select underground artists hailing from the Michigan area. As is expected, the bulk of these hungry artists display lyrical panache over some tight tracks. Sorely missing though, is more production from J. Rawls, as he comprises only a single track with partner J. Sands and newcomer LG. Nevertheless, the point of this compilation is to give new acts the helm, and most rise to the occasion. One definite noteworthy producer is Usef Dinero who contributes three very dope tracks. The strongest being "surrender" with emcee BJ Digby, who as a sidenote, raps well on J.Rawls solo album as well. Dinero's classically orchestrated sound with an ill Nas soundbite is the standout track on "Bringing it Home" by far. Check this producer on Unspoken Heard's album also for further evidence of his appeal. The 3'rd, Ra and Afaliah Afelyone are also prominently featured artists. These songs are so well done that they make others pale in an all too apparent way, unfortunately. These latter tracks seem amateurish and insipid. But ultimately this compilation does successfully exhibit the variety entrenched in all local underground scenes, and will hopefully have indie labels checking for some of the talents on display.

    5 out of 5 stars Dont Sleep.......2002-02-01

This album is a collection of dope beats and dope emcees on the uprise, please be clear when I say emcees, with ill lyrical content that will not disappoint any hip hop head.It is definitely worth listening too, and worth owning.
