I would recommend this CD. A friend of mine had this Cd, I liked it so much I had to get my own copy. I have also had a lot of other friends ask about this CD.

I'm not a deticated fan of tis music as others may be but if you are oing to start anywhere, this is one you want. To me, all the songs are gtreat to listen to. The songs will take you to another world.

This CD is fantastic for anyone who loves Flaminco and the Flaminco guitar. It surges with energy and might just have you "dancing in the streets" or rushing out to sign up for lessons. Enjoy it; you won't be disappointed. P.S. I have heard and seen live Flaminco in Seville, more than once, and this one really took me back with even greater awe and admiration, in addition to the otherwise wonderful memories.

OK let me just settle all this criticism for all those who may want to buy this cd. First of all I play flamenco guitar professionally. There are 50 different styles of flamenco that are well know and countless others that arene't so well known.
Within those styles are hundreds of compas most based on the city in Spain of origin. There are a myriad of time signatures including the 12 meter hemiolic which most common in Bulerias.
I have reviewed this and other CD's like Flamenco chill and comment without reserve that these are flamenco songs. The "modernization" of flamenco music can be equated to blues appearing in every rock recording for the last 50 years. An old type flamenco recording would usually be a concert piece from Tarraga or Jerez or one those classically trained flamenco artists. It could well be argued that they classicized flamenco which ripped out all the guts and soul of the music. The amazing picado runs, powerful rageos, and alzapua licks are all mandatory elements of flamenco. If one would participate in a juelgo they would see a cajon, castenettes, palmas, cante, baille etc...this is a letre..a play of sorts with everyone responding to the cante. To listen to this in a recording would be like listening to the sound of a baseball game..there would be so much missing that it would be a complete waste of time.
SO stop tying to be mr. know it all and just enjoy music for what it is..an expression of human emotion....peace out

"New Flamenco" not new Flamenco.......2005-12-07

With apologies to Mr. L.K. Coleman and his utterly misleading Spotlight Review, this album does not pretend to be anything but what it is. Flamenco is a traditional form of music born in Andalusian Spain and created from Indian, Arabic, Jewish, Romano-Iberian and Celto-Iberian elements. GYPSY PASSION and its successors in the Narada catalogue are examples of Nuevo Flamenco or "New Flamenco" which is a style of Fusion incorporating traditional Flamenco, Jazz, Rock, Classical, and other musics. Either Mr. Coleman doesn't know about New Flamenco as a school of performance, or he's a purist who just dislikes it.

In either case, this album deserves five stars as a lively, engaging and pleasurable listening experience. And yes, "New Flamenco" has revitalized the traditional Andalusian form in modern-day Spain. GYPSY PASSION is absolutely worth your time.

Brilliant!.......2002-10-31

Passion & Soul overwhelms with passages so beautiful, it's nearly impossible not to get swept up in the emotion, drama and joys forged by its master guitarist and cellist. Pyrotechnics be damned; this is music that doesn't waste one note to impress, but fills every measure to resonate long after the listener powers off the CD player. Film Music supervisors would do well to give this a listen for the sheer lyrical beauty of the mood inspiring melodies of "Ida Y Vuelta" and the truly breathtaking closing piece, "Paternera."

Gino D'Auri is Italian, but of Rom (Gypsy) descent. As the title promises, this CD is full of passion and soul as well as technical excellence. As D'Auri says in the liner notes, Flamenco is not just a lot of notes played really fast but the feeling the music imparts. This music conveys the Gypsy passion and soul, the joy and the pain, to perfection. Beautiful!

A Masterpiece!!!.......2001-06-09

This CD is one of the best guitar oriented music in my collection!!! It is even better than D'Auri's previous release "Flamenco Mystico". The music is mainly the traditional flamenco guitar with modern touch, and some excellent cello works are added. The combination of flamenco and cello is extraordinary!!! The music is moody, soothing, and uplifting in some moments. Extremely beautiful!!!

during a very stressful time in my life, i found that anything i played by this gifted singer had the ability to calm me down..Lisen Love is a favorite and i did have the great pleasure of seeing Tessa live not long ago and there must be something very special about her that made a huge crowd at the Blue Note hush during the set...applause was loud and plentiful....a huge crowd waited outside to get in for the second set but many of us tried to stay...I love this beautiful voice and person.....check it out.....

Listen Love is a wonderful CD for anyone who enjoys great singing. Tessa Souter's wide vocal range is beautiful and she uses her interpretive skills to great effect. From her deep resonant bass tones to her pure upper register, her voice makes all the songs on "Listen Love" better. Her rendition of Sting's "Fragile" is tenderly performed outdoing the original version. The production values on this recording are excellent. This CD is a welcome addition to any jazz collection.

I really love this cd! I first heard Tessa Souter when a friend took me to her gig in London a couple of years ago. Her voice is clear and beautiful, and her arrangements are wonderful with a hint of Moorish influence that is captivating. After listening to the cd, I loved it so much that I bought copies for some of my friends. at least 5 of them. Now I'm waiting for Tessa's next cd. If you're nearby when she's performing live, be sure to go hear her in person. She has a wonderful, relaxed manner, and you'll love her even more!

This release is a twelve track release of hispanic and Caribbean flavor instrumentals. The live instruments are beautifully conducted to capture the essence of a paradise. Each artist displays the sexiness and rhythms that you can feel. Well worth the escape!

Great music, great recording, and great variety! Jim Stubblefield and Ruben Romero are my favorites! Their music is passionate and very rhythmic.

I have listened to this CD repeatedly and hear a desire by both players to be creative and fresh. In the future I sense they will aquire greater writing skills as well as an even higher level of rhythmic and solo ability. I live in the area they are from and listen to them from time to time. Since the release of this CD I've already heard a vast gain in the musicality and lyricism in the solos and the writing in the new tunes for the upcoming CD. Hansen and Paucar are people who strive to attain the highest level of musicality within the scope of thier ablilties, and they are still learning and growing as musicians! Imagine what will follow on the next CD!
