"Sequoia creates magic with his guitar... one of the most enjoyable evenings of music that I've heard in years."

Product Description
Robert Sequoia began his creative journey as a very young visual artist. After hearing the great Spanish classical guitarist Carlos Montoya in concert, he was inspired to express his vision through music. Sequoia's compositions convey an emotional honesty and sensitivity rarely found in contemporary music. His unique style varies from heart-moving ballads with beautiful, time-enduring melodies, to upbeat, world-influenced compositions. Audiences are consistently inspired by the soothing, harp-like quality of Robert Sequoia's guitar playing and his delicate, fluid touch.

The son of second-generation immigrants, Robert's musical roots go back to his family lineage of Romanian musicians. Sequoia currently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, U.S.A., where he continues to record and produce his music for films, television and live performances.

Ten years had passed since Petty's last solid outing (Damn the Torpedoes in 1979), and Full Moon Fever fully resuscitated the artist's career, which--some would say "arguably"--had been losing steam. With the album's four major hits and rave reviews from the critics (these things do not always go hand-in-hand), Petty must have breathed a sigh of relief. He left the Heartbreakers behind, hooked up with musician, writer, and producer Jeff Lynne, and rocked out with "Runnin' Down a Dream," got mellow and introspective on "Free Fallin'" and "A Face in the Crowd," and paid tribute (finally) to the Byrds with a cover of "Feel a Whole Lot Better." He perfected the sing-along guitar-pop song on "Yer So Bad" and had a wild time on "Zombie Zoo." Pure Petty perfection! --Lorry Fleming

4 out of 5 stars it doesn't get much better than this.......2007-03-08

I recently started to listen to Tom Petty's music and i have to say this record is fantastic. from the heartbreakers to bob dylan to george harrison to Jeff Lynne its all here and its an amazing creative piece of work.

4 out of 5 stars Petty's first solo hit ranks behind most of his other discs.......2006-11-05

This is one catchy album which saw Tom step away from the Heartbreakers brand of rock and roll and venture into a more pop orientated scene. Jeff Lynne co wrote tracks and produced this album, one of a string of his successes as a producer.

This album, is catchy from start to finish, some of the songs are below par but such as the musical spirit, lightheartedness and joy, they come across, each as catchy radio hits.

Free Fallin', I Won't Back Down and Running Down a Dream were solid hits from this release and are up there with his most popular songs especially for the 2nd generation of Petty fans. They are concert staples and are songs that gained him further respect as a songwriter and thrust him to the top, all over MTV, he was hip again and rode the wave of success well into the 90's.

The Apartment Song was a left over from the early to mid 80's and the rest of the songs were written with Jeff. Initially rejected by the record company, this album turned out to be his 2nd highest charting and one of his best selling albums that was nominated for album of the year at the Grammy's.

This album for me ranks in the middle of his catalogue, there are alot of better albums, including his most recent and his earlier works. Pop fans will love this for the songs they always heard on radio, it is a good introductory/early album to buy for new fans. This album is in need of a remaster.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good..........2006-11-05

Unlike most of the other reviewers, I didn't think this album was 100% gold. In fact, it seemed to me the album (side A) started out with the strongest material (the three big singles are all in the first 5 songs) and then it went downhill for me. Overall, side B was kind of bla for me, and sounded rather unfinished (notice the average song on side A is much longer than side B, and Mike Campbell's contributions are all on side A). There wasn't much guitar work, maybe owing to the fact that this was more a solo effort, and songs like "A Mind With a Heart of Its Own" and "Zombie Zoo" replace Mike Campbell's guitars with organs and excessive backing vocals. "Alright for Now" is a really short lullabye that never really goes anywhere, stays in the lull it begins with and has some pretty uninspired lyrics. "Depending on You" and "The Apartment Song" are the same for the entire song and has the same drums and guitars the whole way through and are very repetitive, along with "A Mind With a Heart of its Own."

Needless to say, the strong points of this album make it worth getting, but if you already have "Anthology" you have every really good song on this album. Personally, although I thought the follow-up "Into the Great Wide Open" did not have as many really strong tracks, it was more consistent overall and had the catchy riffs which would have made up for what is lacking here. Clearly he developed a new style on this record and an ability to not take himself so seriously, but I just thought side B left a lot to be desired and each song kind of ended where it started staying the same throughout with some very throwaway lyrics ("I'm all right. I just feel a little lonely tonight. I'm OK most of the time. I just feel a little lonely tonight").

Check out "Echo" and the soundtrack to "She's the One" for some of TP's most underrated work, this I would say is a tad overrated.

4 out of 5 stars Outstanding Work From Petty - With the Help of Some Wilburys.......2006-10-12

As the music scene progressed in the 1980s, things began to change in the pop music landscape. The synth-pop sound that had dominated the 1980s was now being replaced by a more "natural" guitar-laden sound. This trend was promoted by such artists like John Mellencamp and John Fogerty who would enjoy commercial success as well as critical acclaim. Five musicians in the 1980s would also find themselves at the center of this movement on the music landscape. Jeff Lynne of ELO was working with George Harrison on his "Cloud Nine" album. At the same time Lynne was working with Roy Orbison.. The story goes that Lynne, Harrison, and Orbison all agreed to sing on Orbison's song. They needed a place to record, so they contacted Bob Dylan to use his studio. Meanwhile word is that George's guitar was with Tom Petty (who was also working with Lynne). The rest is history and a supergroup called "The Traveling Wilburys" was born. The Wilburys would enjoy enormous success. While some people felt that Lynne was the weak member of the Wilburys, he was the man who also brought them all together. As mentioned, Lynne was also working with Tom Petty at the time on a "solo project". That project would turn out to be his highly successful 1989 album, "Full Moon Fever". "Full Moon Fever" not only encapsulates the guitar-laden sound that had now taken over the landscape, but it also brings 3 of the 4 other Wilburys (the exception being Bob Dylan) into the fold.

The Traveling Wilburys would release two albums - "Volume 1" and "Volume 3". There was no "Volume 2". However over the years, "Full Moon Fever" has unofficially become "Volume 2". In fact there is a Russian Import version that actually labels "Full Moon Fever" as "Volume 2". As mentioned this was technically a "solo album" by Tom Petty. For years, Petty had recorded with his band - "Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers". While this was a "solo album", there are many of the Heartbreakers that are present on this album. Howie Epstein lends background vocals to two songs - "Love is a Long Road" and "I Won't Back Down". Benmont Tench lends his piano for "The Apartment Song". Finally, Mike Campbell - possibly one of the most sought after musicians in the business contributes throughout the whole "Full Moon Fever" collection - including guitars, mandolin, bass, and keyboards.

When Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers burst on the music scene - they appealed to a wide variety of musical styles including Classic Rock, New Wave, and even Punk. However, I feel that Petty's roots were still in Southern Rock. "Full Moon Fever" definitely isn't rooted in Southern Rock, but it does have a strong incorporation of the guitar-laden sound mentioned. This isn't an album where you are going to hear horns or a string section. While you hear some keyboards, it will be the guitars that are going to be the story of this album - whether it's electric or acoustic, every song will make an integral use of the guitar. On top of that, given Petty's unique voice - this really becomes something special. I give a lot of credit to Lynne for putting this all together. It's kind of ironic that Lynne was able to pull off producing both "Full Moon Fever" and the Traveling Wilburys. Lynne was known for his intricate orchestral arrangements with ELO, yet Lynne finds a way to make the natural guitar-laden sound work for Petty on this collection.

"Full Moon Fever" is known for the "hits" that were spurned off this album - these songs being: "Free Fallin", "I Won't Back Down", and "Runnin' Down a Dream (to a lesser extent "Yer So Bad" and "A Face in the Crowd" were also hits). These are good songs, but surprisingly, I found the "other songs" to be the strong points of this collection. Songs such as "Love is a Long Road", "Feel a Whole Lot Better", "Depending on You", "The Apartment Song", "Alright for Now", "A Mind With a Heart of It's Own", and "Zombie Zoo" were the albums strongest songs. Any of these songs could have easily been released as singles and could have achieved a high level of commercial success.

As mentioned, three of the Wilburys make contributions to this album Roy Orbison lends his background vocals to "Zombie Zoo". George Harrison lends Acoustic Guitar and Background Vocals to "I Won't Back Down". Lynne, while lending his hand at co-producing this album with Petty and Mike Campbell also lends Vocals, Bass, Guitar, and Keyboards to the effort. Who can forget the terrific vocal jam between Petty, Harrison, and Lynne on "I Won't Back Down" - i.e. the classic "Hey Baby!". While Harrison didn't directly contribute to the track "Feel a Whole Lot Better", I'd like to think he had some influence on the cover of the Byrds' "Feel a Whole Lot Better". This cover gives the song a distinct Beatle-sque quality. I give Petty a lot of credit for being able to pull this off. At the same time, Petty also remains true to his Southern Rock roots. "A Mind With a Heart of It's Own" definitely sounds like something Petty would have done with the Heartbreakers. Finally, if you want to hear Tom Petty do a lullaby, listen to "Alright for Now".

Perhaps the most interesting part is when Petty puts an interruption prior to the start of "Feel a Whole Lot Better". This interruption tells CD listeners to "wait" until LP or Cassette listeners are able to flip over their media on their player - most humorous.

The liner notes do include all of the lyrics and all of the musician credits and acknowledgements. Overall, fans of Tom Petty and the Wilburys will not be disappointed with this effort. Although this collection does have a guitar-laden sound, it will have a lot of appeal to the mainstream. This is one collection I highly recommend.

Album Description

East of the Full Moon is a musical meditation on the theme of night, crafted by renowned New Age musician/composer, Deuter. Composed to express the moods of the night, its silence, its soft songs, when the human mind has gone to sleep to dream different dreams, Deuter's graceful music evokes images of the night sky, the moon appearing behind clouds, the world losing its stark colors, and trees becoming just shadows against the moon.

Reviews:
"There's no denying that Deuter has talent. With over a dozen releases to his name and a penchant for some of the most haunting reveries in the genre, the artist is a master of music for relaxation and healing. EAST OF THE FULL MOON, themed after the stillness of the nocturnal hours, features Deuter in top form, with a series of velvety melodies that call to mind a gorgeous night sky. Piano, flute, harp, and keyboards are the main instruments on the album, which are interwoven into a tapestry of dreamy music. The cuts are each slow-paced and reflective, ideal for providing a soothing backdrop for relaxation or meditation."
--Music Design, In Review

"... East of the Full Moon once again clearly illustrates why Deuter has few, if any, peers when it comes to crafting elegant, beautiful music which speaks to the human soul with simplicity, charm, and grace."
--Bill Binkelman, Wind and Wire

"…Deuter's exquisite sense of taste and confidence in the other-dimensional nature of his creations produces music that soothes the spirit, freeing the mind to journey to a place of peace. A few selections include mild percussive beat; the rest flow in an unbroken stream of heart-touching reverie."
--Jason Victor Serinus, Music Critic

"In these busy times there is one musical artist that continues to define quiet joy, warmth, and a musical heart-felt celebration of life. That artist is Deuter. East of the Full Moon should appeal to anyone who is interested in genuine music for meditation, yoga, quiet times, and who may use the music in home, school or office settings to enhance the environment. Recommended!"
--Scott H. Colborn, The Way Home Store

5 out of 5 stars Very good new age - low key, well engineered........2007-07-04

Deuter has turned out tasteful albums and this is one of his best. New Age music should be unobtrusive and this is. It should stand up to repeated listening and this does. It should be relaxing without being monotonous and this is. Enjoyable. And it passed my sleep test - it put me to sleep last night so that I never heard the end of the album.

4 out of 5 stars Deuter is always good..........2007-06-08

I want to own all of his music, not just because I'm a massage therapist. It also helps me to relax and move to a more centered space within. But his Koyasan - Reiki Sound Healing is the absolute best he's ever produced in my opinion.

5 out of 5 stars Especially nice for contemplation.......2007-05-07

Gentle piano exploration against a mystical background. Nothing gooey, just lots of beauty. Invites peaceful reflection. Not a false note.

5 out of 5 stars Magnificant.......2007-01-17

I get in home massages, and I asked for this CD for Christmas gift because I heard the first track on an internet radio station and thought it would suit me. I hightly underestimated the power, beauty and magic of this CD. Buy it for a friend or loved one. Buy it for yourself.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful spa CD.......2007-01-16

My sister asked for a spa-type CD for Christmas, so I went searching for the perfect one for her. I found it with this one. If you've ever been to a spa, had a massage, enjoyed that aromatherapy, had a cup of hot herbal tea...you know that euphoric feeling that comes over you. This is a great way to re-create that at home (or in the car). I don't know how to explain how relaxing this music is, but trust me, you won't be disappointed with this choice.

This Ohio-bred, L.A.-based long-haired chap writes songs that seem readymade for the emotional climax to a show like The Gilmore Girls. Songs like "Bound by Love" and "Edible" marry classic '80s popcraft (think the Church, Smiths and R.E.M. pre-understandability) with soaring strings and a super anthemic sound that rivals Coldplay or Keane. Other tunes bring straight-ahead rock riffing ("Moment," "Baby Boy") that almost bring to mind the Strokes and Ben Folds working together, while the title song, "Do We Say Bye" and "Crash and Burn" are piano-driven midtempo weepers. For certain, we'll all be hearing more from this pop-rock readymade superstar. --Mike McGonigal

5 out of 5 stars Keep your eyes out for this guy..........2007-03-09

This guy opened for Aqualung last night in Louisville, KY. I had heard a single of his on the radio and upon entering the bar I thought the guy on stage was playing it as a cover. I looked at the bill and recognized the name...it truly WAS Gran Bel Fisher on stage but with only one other guitarist.

I have NEVER seen two guys on stage create more energy and emotion without a backing band. I went for the headliner and GBF was just as good.

He is touring like crazy now...hooking up his own equipment and carrying it off after his set. If you happen to see his name on a bill in your area do yourself a favor and GO SEE HIM. This guy is gonna go places quick. Remember stories your parents told you about seeing Dylan or The Stones in a little bar before they got big? You'll be saying this about Gran Bel Fisher twenty years from now.

Seriously.

Awesome CD! We happened upon Gran Bell at Killington a few weeks ago. He as a filler in an apres ski party at the Wobbly Barn, and played 5-6 songs. We sat directly overhead the stage, and watched him work his magic on the keyboard. Songs are all original, and very well done.

Highly recommend this purchase!

5 out of 5 stars Gran Bel Fisher is a breath of fresh air!.......2006-12-30

Gran Bel Fisher is a wonderful new-comer with tantalizing lyrics/melodies. He is a 24 year old musician right on the verge of going places!

TRACK #2 - Far Cry: "Coin toss is it head or tails/In the fields of Ohio I set my sails"

Track #1, which is Full Moon Cigarette, is my favorite track on the album!

5 out of 5 stars take a drive down I-95.......2006-11-19

and pop this CD in and you'll feel like you're on a road trip to OZ. This guy's got a sound reminiscent of something from the past but with something good from the present. The piano riff's are much to be appreciated. The lyrics are great. I bought this CD sound unheard. Took a chance and came up with gold. The entire body of work does something for me. Every song has melody and merit. This is not a CD to bang your head but rather one for a quiet night home with friends over hanging out enjoying company and a good glass of wine without being pretentious. I think Mr. Fisher is a keeper. I'll be watching him from here on out.

5 out of 5 stars amazing.......2006-11-08

As soon as Gran Bel Fisher opened his mouth when I saw him open for Brandi Carlile in late May, I knew I had to get my hands on his album. Unfortunatly, I had to preorder it on Amazon until it came out in July, and it has literally not left my CD player since. His songs are heartfelt, and his voice has a great range and extremely expressive. The album does not have a single bad track on it, though ones like "Far Cry" and "Dazey Day" have a bit more depth to them than others. Despite this, each track is amazing and if you don't have this album, I highly recommend it. Also, if you ever have the chance be sure to check out Gran Bel Fisher in concert, as it is an experience you'll never forget.

On her first CD in three years, the newly married and pregnant Brandy sounds confident and assured and lets us know that she has found her man (even if it takes a numbing 17 tracks). The stately ballad "He Is" shimmers with unabashed, but never treacly, adoration, as Brandy huskily sighs, "Prince Charming, my angel, my king, my friend." It's the sound of a woman in love, and that sentiment guides this satisfying CD's strongest cuts, from Mike City's tangy title track to the snaky seduction of "Apart," which burnishes Brandy's vocals with a metallic glow. Most of the CD was produced by longtime collaborator Rodney Jerkins, but he overloads Brandy's plate with bombastic, predictable beats that do little to draw listeners in. Full Moon truly glows when the intensity is muted and emotion is in the forefront. --Amy Linden

5 out of 5 stars Brandy's Phases.......2006-11-20

"Full Moon" found Brandy reaching a moment where she was ready to grow as an artist. She again enlisted Darkchild (Rodney Jerkins, et al.) to set-up the musical backdrops that caused "Never Say Never" to become one of the best R&B records of it's time. So, the question in 2002 was, did Brandy bring the goods?

In one word, yes. The arrangements on "Full Moon" divide between the stunning adult balladry & sharper, urban driven dance material. Though the sound is more dark at times, more sensual, & it seems that the transition of adulthood wasn't that hard for her.

On the dance end, you have "What About Us", the lead single. This mechanized, deep grind of a groove was the perfect vehicle for the angst of the subject of a spurned lover. The British two-step inflected "All In Me" is another highlight, & sits next to the dizzying, heavy handed bass laden "I Thought" perfectly. From the urban dance perspective, Brandy paints herself as a modern-day Jody Watley vocally & from a compositonal standpoint. There wasn't a better female empowered anthem that could move you like "What About Us?" at the time since "Looking For A New Love".

For further allusions to Jody comparions, the vocals on the previously mentioned ballads are the true treat. Sensual, probing, emotionally poignant, & convicted. While Brandy didn't handle (beyond some co-write credits) majority of the songwriting, the passion she sings with makes these songs all hers. The title track sets the compostional mood for the ballads. Harder beats, paired with violin & piano work, & Brandy's voice for organic purposes blend here. This pairing of studio wizardry & more soulful elements helps make these ballads warm & inviting.
It drives home the hauntingly spectacular "It's Not Worth It". This song features backing vocals from Michael Jackson, though credit is only listed in the liner notes, it sounds incredible. Brandy's vocals at the fore & Michael's at the back sound like Brandy singing over an old, mournful 1970's soul gem. Other notables include the fitting tribute to the P.M. Dawn classic "I'd Die Without You" (with brother Ray J on vocals), "WOW" wows in it's honesty, & the sweet come-ons that are "When You Touch Me" & "Like This" charm without effort.

Overall, despite the length, "Full Moon" is a rewarding listen. One that brings Brandy's need to connect through thoughts on matters of lonliness, unrequited love, infidelity, true love, romance, & finding oneself in another successfully. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars brandy's best work ever!.......2006-10-31

Till this day it still amazes me how Brandy released this fabulous album in 2002, and yet no-talents like ashanti were getting more attention than her. Brandy and Rodney Jerkins both hit their creative peak with this CD, which is full of r&b and pop tunes with a futuristic millenium sound to it.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic :-).......2006-10-21

As I download my cd's onto my ipod, I'm revisiting my old cd's and I came across this gem again.
Brandy has always been one of my favourites. This cd is one of her best; it's some of her most mature music. It's full of great songs and the beautiful voice that keeps getting better with each release. My favourite tracks here are Full Moon, the beautiful remake of Die Without You, WOW and the stunning Love Wouldn't Count Me Out. She is very talented and her vocal range shines throughout this great cd. If you are a fan of hers, this cd has to be in your collection. It's beautiful and I highly recommend it.

3 out of 5 stars Vocal Prowess Displayed w/ Great Production Too.......2006-10-18

In 1994, Brandy entered the R&B arena with a voice that belied her age and slick production that proppeled her to instant stardom. In "Full Moon," her third album, that same recipe for success is as prevalent as ever. Brandy has one of the most recognizable and skilled voices in the music industry today. With its emotive raspiness and impressive range, each song on "Full Moon" is given incredible depth, never overpowering the melody yet always staying the focal point. On songs like the soft "When You Touch Me," the soulful thump of "Like This," and the swaying, Eastern-influenced gem of "Apart," Brandy's skill as an interpreter of song is beautifully displayed. She takes commanding possession of each lyric, infusing creative riffs and runs throughout the song to make it undeniably hers. Tracks like "He Is," a soothing ode to a faithful lover, and the feel good, I'm-better-off-without-you anthem "Wow" display her strong lower register that furthers shows Brandy's vocal control. For singers, Brandy is a great model to follow.

It doesn't hurt that the production is impeccable either. Rodney Jerkins and company create a sonic delight, such as with the ethereally pulsating title track or the technological wonder of "What About Us." Each song seamlessly transitions into the next, creating an album that is enjoyable to listen to and admire from beginning to end

...well, almost. While Brandy's voice is certainly at its best, and the production is top-notch, "Full Moon" isn't without its fillers. Songs like "Can We," "Anybody," and "Love Wouldn't Count Me Out" seems like unneccessary additions to an otherwise great R&B album. Nevertheless, Brandy's "Full Moon" is an influential album for aspiring singers and avid music lovers who admire soulful vocal creativity and skill, and for those who enjoy great musical arrangements to accompany such undeniable talent.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Album!.......2006-06-08

This by far my favorite album all of time. Brandy does it again! EVERY song on this album is a hit... From start to finish! Her sound is so mature and it demands your attention. I really enjoy how she stayed away from the cookie cutter songs other artists like her always put out. I recommend this album to everyone who is a fan of R&B, Pop, Rock, Hip Hop, or any type of Music! Thank you Brandy for an awesome album!

4 out of 5 stars Keiko Matsui's "Full Moon and the Shrine".......2003-01-19

Around 6 months ago, my dad got me this CD. Since he knew that I like piano music, he got it, even though he had never heard of Keiko Matsui in his life. That was an incredibly lucky guess. I admit that I was surprised at how good this CD was. The music on it is a nice blend of easy listening with a pinch of jazz. It is the type of CD that, no matter how repetitive it gets, you really like anyway. In my opinion, the way that the songs are put together is very creative.
In short, if you like easy listening and/or contemporary music, get this CD. If you like jazz, but don't like the other 2 genres, then don't even think about it.

    5 out of 5 stars PURE BEAUTY.......2001-10-19

I was given FULL MOON AND THE SHRINE as a gift months ago and appreciate it more as time passes. I love the way special music like this grows in my heart. This is an awesome composition from start to finish. FULL MOON AND THE SHRINE is a crescendo of emotion. It begins in purity and ends in purity; but in between, it offers the listener the full spectrum of the rainbow. Its sum total is ALL. What a lovely, eclectic blend of sounds! Lovers of jazz and new-age instrumental music are sure to be pleased. Its eclectism lends, at the same time, eccentricity. You may ask, "How can FULL MOON AND THE SHRINE be both eclectic and eccentric?" Listen and you will understand.

    Soar my friends,
    Soaring Heart

This CD is wonderful. It is very soothing. You can use it for massage or just for easy listening. I love to hear it while I am driving. It puts me in a very peaceful mood.

    5 out of 5 stars Beauty.......2001-07-01

Keiko Matsui has produced many albums, but this album is by far my treasured piece. CDs lose my interest after a few months of repeated listenings, but Full Moon and the Shrine has continued to be fulfilling listening. No weak songs exist in this album, and they flow together well.

5 out of 5 stars Full Moon and the Shrine is addicting........2001-03-03

I always thought jazz was kind of boring, although I can see some redeeming qualities in it. But this CD combines jazz with new age and is just the opposite of boring. I found 5 songs which I play over and over again, my favorite is actually Steps in the Night. If you're a fan of music featuring the piano like me, you'll be sure to enjoy this CD.

The CD includes a very interesting music video version of Full Moon and the Shrine. Beautiful, and kind of spooky if you ask me. I don't know what the HDCD is supposed to mean but if it means that a higher quality version of the audio is available, I'm unaware of it. Of course I don't have a HDCD player though.

Even more addicting than this CD are some tracks on Dream Walk, but this CD has a larger quantity of slightly less addicting tracks.

5 out of 5 stars The Artistry of Nelson Eddy.......2006-11-04

Nelson Eddy's flawless singing and diction, with a modern orchestral accompaniment, make The Artistry of Nelson Eddy a romantic, sophisticated musical experience.

3 out of 5 stars Artistry of Nelson Eddy.......2006-08-22

Contemporary music which is sung well but voice not as expected of Nelson Eddy. The true baritone of his voice missing. This may be the recording but CD received in good condition.

5 out of 5 stars A Nelson Eddy Tour de Force: Magnificence here on earth.......2006-03-17

I have most of the movies of Nelson Eddy. Together with Jeanette MacDonald, this team produced some of the most romantic movie-operattas ever made. But the sound quality of those movies pale in comparison to the magnificence of this production.
Nelson Eddy has never sounded better, aided (1994) by more modern recording techniques, the quality here (even with a disclaimer) is beyond belief. He has got to be one of the premier baritones of all time. Singing Popular tunes adapted from classical themes, he may be without peer. I have a CD of the young Sinatra singing "Full Moon and Empty Arms" to Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. He is not in the same universe with Eddy, whose crisp diction, timbre, fullness, perfect pitch, and passion ~ YES! PASSION! ~ must be heard (hopefully on on quality audio) to be fully appreciated. This is AWESOME. Maybe the best it gets here on earth. This is a wholly magnificent CD if you appreciate really good music, a fantastic baritone, and have a romantic bone in your body. I am astounded. Until today, I had no idea that Nelson Eddy was this good. This CD proves he was.

4 out of 5 stars For those who are already fans of N.E. only........2003-12-22

Nelson Eddy made these recordings when he was about 60 years old and it shows. He retained an excellent voice for a very long time, allowing him to perform successfully until the day he died. However, this particular recording seems to emphasize vocal decline, in terms of control and range. The problem may be that the songs presented here are mostly VERY GREAT classical orchestral pieces, to which are sung pop lyrics. In my opinion, most (but not all) of the lyrics to these songs are not worthy of their music and are incongruous. The last number, "Alone Together", an excellent Schwartz/Dietz song (which seems out of place with Rachmaninov and Ravel,) is actually a duet with Nelson's partner, Gale Sherwood. It was recorded a couple of years later than the other songs on this album, and is given a bossa nova background that in this mix, practically drowns out the singers! As to the overall sound quality, there are some light snaps and pops as on a record, but the music is loud and clear. I do not mean to discourage Nelson Eddy fans from buying this album. I think you need this album. I own this album. Buy this album, and encourage the release of more albums and radio recordings by Nelson Eddy. What I do mean to say, is that "The Artistry of Nelson Eddy" is not the best introduction to the artistry of Nelson Eddy. His recordings from the 30's, 40's or even 50's are a better purchase for the beginner. Once you love Nelson Eddy, then pick up this album.

5 out of 5 stars A Surefire Way To Turn A Bad Day Into A Good One!.......2003-04-12

The music on this CD is so beautiful it brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it. It proves that the music of Nelson Eddy is simply timeless. I have always loved his voice, but these arrangements bring out the very best of it. It is highly recommended.

2 out of 5 stars Some nice work, but a disappointing recording.......2007-01-20

Mr. Galbraith is an accomplished musician and displays some fine work on this CD, but the over all product is not as satisfying as I had hoped. One reason, as touched upon by other reviewers, is that this is a collection of 52 short songs, most of which are less than a minute long. The result, from a listener's position, is that one does not have time to get in to a song, to enjoy what it has to offer, before it is over and the mood shifts again. The second problem, at least on my recording, is the presence of distracting noise artifacts in the background. To me they sound like the rustling of Mr. Galbraith's clothing, or maybe his breathing. It's hard to say, but it is definitley there in the quiet moments between notes - of which there are many on this unaccompanied guitar album. To reduce the distraction from this noise, I need to play the CD at low volume, like background music.

      5 out of 5 stars Simply Beautiful.......2005-09-24

I must take exception with a previous review of this cd.
Mr. Galbraith's musicianship is unsurpassed on these deeply moving folksongs that are so expertly and sensitively arranged for his 8 string classical guitar.
The pieces, by the way, are not arranged in "suites" as stated in the aforementioned review. They are grouped by composer, a perfectly fine way to arrange titles on a cd, and no convoluted attempt is being made by Galbraith to give musical "whirlwind tours" or "develop themes" of countries, nor does there need to be.
Mr Galbraith's choice of pieces is absolutely delightful, and his sensitive performance of these varied folk songs transports the listener "in time and space" to the far reaches and ages of the European continent. This is not a "world music" fad presentation here, but beautifully arranged and performed pieces by some of history's time-honored composers whose only intention was to faithfully capture the spirit of the music of their native country. There is no lack of substance either by Mr. Galbraith, or any of the composers on this cd that the previous reviewer states. Quite the contrary. These composers have ably used their craft to capture the folk music of their native countries, plain and simple. And yes, Mr Galbraith's passion in performing them has brought to listeners who are willing to hear, musical gems that will delight from beginning to end on this "In Every Lake the Moon Shines Full" cd. Bravo, Mr. Galbraith. Please give us more of the same!

      5 out of 5 stars Absolutely incredible.......2004-04-21

It is far too rare that a guitarist of Galbraith's ability applies his skills to folk music, and the results here are breathtaking. The selections are folk tunes from about six countries. Another reviewer was distracted by the fact of 52 tracks. A better way to listen is to think of them as suites from the various sources, such as Spain, Scotland's Hebrides Islands, Greece, etc.

The sonic range he gets from his 8-string guitar is unique in the musical world.

Galbraith is a true artist. The title sets the mood -- I suggest that you go with it.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty, lightweight travelog.......2001-08-21

"There are few things more evocative than a beautiful folk song," states Mr. Galbraith in the liner notes. While there are some lovely impressionistic moments, none of them seem to last long enough to, well, make an impression. There are 52 some odd songs, but the cd is only 60 minutes long. You do the math. I prefer pieces with development sections; these are more like little postcards; melodic fragments. They're arranged in suites so I guess it develops in as far as there are several snapshots to give the impression of the country, but it's a whirlwind tour, the equivalent of taking a 200 mph bullet train through 5 countries in an hour. Little remains of the trip to remember. His musicianship can not be faulted, however, as he does some wonderful things with the songs in the time allotted. It's more a matter of program choice; the standard Aires de la Mancha by Torroba is usually included in a set of more substantial works as a respite instead of a centerpiece as it is here. Many other classical guitarists (and classical artists in general) have been delving into the "world music" genre lately, such as the LAGQ's self-titled cd and David Russell, with varied degrees of success. This is about par with most of them; well-executed, but ultimately lacking in the substance that would make it good classical music and in the authentic instrumentation and passion that would make it good folk music.

5 out of 5 stars Great Music Great Value.......2006-07-15

This is a double CD, with tracks from two separate CD's--The "Larsen Feiten Band" which is about $40 as a Japanese Import) and "Full Moon" another pricey and unavailable CD. So this particular CD is a huge bargain.

The music style is jazz and pop. The instrumentals feature a haunting melody line shadowed by guitar, usually syched with the organ or synthesizer, or in some cases, a few miliseconds after the lead notes. The instrumentals also feature a musical chorus, which I find unusual, and some terrific guitar work.

I will never understand why they did not enjoy the musical success they deserved.

For those of you who don't much about the band, I'll offer some history.

Buzz Feiten was a studio guitarist for among other bands, Stevie Wonder. In the mid 1970's he joined forces with Neil Larsen and formed a band called "Full Moon" who recorded an incredibly classic and great album of the same name, with some personnel of Paul Butterfield Blues Band (after his untimely death). The album was critically acclaimed but did not enjoy commercial success, and was jazzy, rocky and poppy. All in all, a terrific sound.

Neil and Buzz recorded a series of albums together with Neil Larsen being the name artist, and after that played out, recorded these two CD within a year of each other.

The sound has something for everyone. It is jazzy, has pop vocals, and some great rock guitar licks.

This particular CD has some great highlights including:

      FULL MOON

"Phantom of the Footlights," a pop jazzy song with some great licks and hooks.

"The Visitor" an instrumental featuring the multi-talents of Neil Larsen on organ and synthesizer.

"Hero's Welcome" Another Neil Larsen haunting instrumental.

      LARSEN FEITEN BAND

"Who'll Be the Fool Tonight" A pop vocal song with a terrific melody and some catchy hooks. Great guitar work by Buzz.

"Danger Zone" Another pop song, with a jazz matrix.

"Further Notice" A Neil Larsen melody/instrumental which, as usual, as a haunting melody and chorus.

"Aztec Legend" Yet another Neil Larsen melody.

The music is great and this is a bargain of a CD.

      5 out of 5 stars Great 2 on 1.......2005-08-10

This one features both the Larsen/Feiten Band from 1980 and Full Moon with the duo from 1982. Plenty of great jazz rock with good songs and musicianship.
